Insufficient storage space after setting install location - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have set the install location of my phone to external. Even though I am installing apps to ad directly, I can't install apps higher than the internal free space left.

Have you rooted the phone and installed something like Link2SD or JaggyROM and linked all apps to SD (different to moving apps to SD in settings the normal way)? If not, I strongly advise you do. I have the same phone and could only install about half a dozen apps at a time until I rooted and got Link2SD and now I have about 75 apps installed. I still can't install any app over about 35MB in size (that's how much free space I typically have in my internal storage), but that is fine for me. If you install JaggyROM, you can get about 148MB free, so can install apps up to 148MB in size.

Link 2sd can't make the mount scripts correctly, it pauses with an error. I need to try jaggyrom.:beer:

Can´t recovery the used space even after uninstalling the app´s, help needed?

Hi,
I have a ZTE Blade with CM 7.1 (don´t kow if it happens on another devices / roms) and i´m having a serious problem.
Internal storage memory is getting low at a very fast rate.
The problem is, when i install an app, it decrease the internal storage memory, ok everything normal.. but when i move it to the SD card or even when i uninstalled it, i can´t recovery the free space it had before..
For example, i installed an app of 30mb (automatically on the SD Card), and it occupied the 30mb on the internal storage memory too.. Worse, i uninstalled the app, and the 30mb are still used on internal storage memory. I´ve tried to clear the market cache without any success.. I suspect it has the apk install file somewere on the internal storage memory, but where?
Knowing that your phone is CM7, it is rooted, right?
Try using Root Explorer (or any explorer with root rights) and go to /data/app. Check if the app is still there, delete it if yes.
Go to /data/data and check for a folder with the app name, delete it.
Warn: Do that if you unnistalled the app.

[Q] Is there a way to increase system storage on Viewpad 7?

Hello!
I've just rooted Viewpad 7 and installed EUViewpad7 v1.7b firmware.
In Quick System Info app it says I have only 4 kb free "system storage" left.
I'd like to try to increase internal storage size, perhaps at expense of some internal storage or somesuch (since apps run from SD thanks to apps2sd)
And yes, the ROM already has apps2sd, so I don't think I can move any more stuff to SD without breaking everything...
Is increasing "system storage" possible ?
1. Link2sd way
- Rooted
- Partition EXT3 or 4 in your micro-sd, size whatever u want (1024 mb recommend).
- Open Link2sd's app select ext3 or 4.
- Reboot
2. a2sd way
- Rooted
- Install CMW.
- Partition EXT3 or 4 in your micro-sd, size whatever u want (1024 mb recommend).
- Install a2sd from recovery mode.
- Install a2sd gui from Google play.
- move data from app or in terminal [type su>enter>type a2sd datasd>enter>auto reboot]
3. Google move to sd-card, apps2sd or app way
- Install app that the name say move to sd or something.
- Not help.
And like other developer alway said, Do it with your own risk.
Sorry for my weak english.
I think a2sd is already installed and all the apps that can be moved to SD are on SD already (a2sd comes with EUViewpad7 v1.7b by default, and I did create all the partitions and stuff on SD. Also, terminal emulator -> a2sd check says that I have apps and dalvik cache running from SD)
So. moving apps 2 sd is unlikely to yield much relief since they all are already there
Any other ideas on getting more "system storage" ?
If your a2sd run perfect, your rom space will not decreate even if u install a lot of app.

Yeah.
Though I would still rather have it larger, you know, just in case (also curious about it on general principle of finding out new stuff)

+++1 on that, many others have successfully used A2SD on the EU v1.7b ITE ROM like myself, it's been documented in extensive details in the custom Rom's thread, please re-read and follow the steps outlined, and, backup anything & everything important on the mSD card first.
I'm guessing that the mSD card wasn't fully reformatted and setup properly.
Quick key steps: make sure you do a full dalvik, cache & system wipe first (after backing up via CWM 2.x - recommended verison over 4.x or newer 5.x) and format ext3/4 with 1MB space, move/copy ZIP file back to ROM and select it to flash/install, continue with full setup, power down & restart.
You will need to re-install Titanium Backup & A2SDGUI from Market (it's now Google Play, once your account is setup/restored) and check your memory/storage with A2SDGUI, it should show plenty of available/free space for internal, system/rom and SD/ext card usage.
If not, re-check your steps and repeat it for proper installation. If it's working, A2SD will dynamically move & free up plenty of space for Apps, I have over 50 (market) apps of them in addition to the default/custom Rom's Apps, and 2 verisons (soon to be 3) of Angry Birds running on it.
A 8GB mSD is the minimum that I would use, a 16GB mSD is better with all the CWM files that you will store on it, plus MP3 and videos, etc.
FYI - mine device's readings are:
Internal memory free (total) 93MB (171MB)
SD-Ext free (total) 555MB (914MB)
/cache/free (total) 86MB (88MB)
Ram free (total) 226MB (415MB)
A corrupt installation will not display all of the above. I have yet to come across after trying other App2SD apps out in the "Market" that work and can free up so much "extra" for the Vpad7 ... YMMV
Good luck & if you are not sure, please post your results/space as shown under A2SD as written by DT.
Link of my space and u will see how much free of my viewpad7. And the most important is no app on m-sd. It's all in ext3.

[Q] Where are apps from the market downloaded to?

Hi everyone
I was wondering what is happening with apps when you are installing them from the market. where they are downloaded to. is it some kind of temporary folder or what?
I have a Coby 7022(root) and when i try to download bigger app then 30mb, I get a error. the android is downloading ( you can see the progress) it but after a while it it says not enough memory to download.
Thank you
It would seem that you may need to free up some space on your memory card, you can free alot up by clearing your browser history and cache.
there was a market bug that when you tryed to download a app around that size it would give you that error message it happened to me even though i had over 3GB free internal storage but when the market updated that was fixed for me

Download 'market fix' from Google play and run it (it needs root access though).

[Q] ROM running out of space

Hi I have 500Mb ROM which is down to between 40-80Mb free. Its not rooted. 400Mb used seems to be excessive as apart from Jelly Bean theres only 15 apps on ROM, using about 30Mb with the rest on external SD.
As far as I know, there is no method to find whats hogging the space on ROM without rooting the phone, or is there?
Any ideas what I can do to fix it up please.
Thanks very much.
Alistair.

Try ES explorer on root explorer form market, they should let you see what's taking space, but if you want to delete some stuff from rom you will have to root it

Those both require ROOT
I complained to dev for camscanner that their app was hogging phone memory and they have since enabled it to be moved to External SD which has saved about 30Mb. Also I was using Firefox which is internal ROM and since sorting those 2 out now have around 100Mb free.
Had to root a phone recently to fix its IMEI and was surprised at how easy it was. Am thinking about rooting mine, but at the moment its going really well without.
Chinese G9300/MTK6577 non-rooted Android 4.1
Back again with ROM now down to around 40Mb.
The phone has 1Gb RAM and 500Mb ROM, it also has internal SD 2Gb shows as /storage/sdcard1 and this memory is not available on Non-root for apps. EG its only being used for backup ringtones and sounds.
Phone also has 16Gb external microSD as /storage/sdcard0 which is available for external SD app move non-root.
I would like to be able to be able to move some of the apps from internal ROM to /storage/sdcard1 (sometimes called ext-memory). Reason being internal storage is more stable than external SD. I'd prefer to have most apps on that internal ROM currently unavailable as non-root, and use MicroSD external 16Gb for music/photos/movies etc.
If I root the phone and use something like Link2SD will it give me the option to move to internal/ sdcard1, or is it only possible to use sdcard1 if I physically remove sdcard0/MicroSD?
Thanks kindly.

[Q] Insufficient App Storage w/ 950mb Internal Space Free???

I know there have been tons of posts about "insufficient storage", but I havent seen one that says what's really going on if I have 950 mb out of 1.5 gigs internal space free and am still getting this message regardless of whether I am trying to install apps from the Play store or from downloaded APKs. I've cleared the cache of all my apps. I do not have any duplicate app-lib files. I am running rooted stock version of Android, not a rom. When I first started getting insufficient storage warning I went in and cleared out an additional 700mb by linking apps to SD through the Link2SD app if that helps. Nothing is wrong with my phone. Everything including all my existing apps work fine. I just cant install any new ones despite having so much free space. Any suggestions? Thank you!
I'm not too familiar with link2sd but in many cases if you change the default storage location rathar than use default it can cause such an error. Also, tho less frequent s if you change tue SD readahead value to other than default (default =124k)
