Now I know this is largely an opinion based question but figured I'd get some good feedback. I am a former incredible owner and with the incredible I had MANY choices of ROMs that were all fast, great battery improvements and completely stable. I was a huge fan of CM7 on the incredible. I finally just rooted my Thunderbolt and am looking for the same. I just want a ROM that is stable, decent speed and with better battery life. So far I flashed a sense 3.5 ROM (InfectedROM) and it is has many bugs, little bit better battery and actually feels slower than stock. CM7 says it is still in beta so I have been reluctant to try it. Does anybody have any advice on the most solid ROM out there for the Thunderbolt? Thank you

Any BAMF ROM. They are almost completely bug free, smooth, and offer better battery life over stock. CM7, even though it's not officially supported yet, doesn't have too many bugs. The battery life, in my opinion, just doesn't match up to Sense ROMs.
One piece of advice I'll give you for better battery life. Don't overclock. It just isn't necessary. The phone is fast enough at 1GHz, and you won't see too much of a change overclocking, just worse battery life. (Benchmark scores are meaningless. They do not reflect every day performance)
What kind of mAh drain do you experience on bamf roms? I stay between 15-25 on CM7 with the screen off and peak between 150-350 with screen on. BT is always on, as well as GPS. (Never use wifi, so can't speak on that) Oh, and I just Juice defender, before JD I would average 35-40. Sync mail with imap every 15 and exchange on push. Underclocked with screen off to 360 and run 1024 with screen on. I don't OC unless I'm plugged in. Then its only 1209.
I'll also cast a vot for Team BAMF. I am on BAMF forever 1.10 and I flashed the devs beta 3++ kernel build after because I saw a bit of lag with the stock kernel. You absolutely need to remember to wipe before flashing the rom, though. I neglected to and the lockscreen didn't even work.

I never dropped below 30% battery using bamf in months, I'm a huge fan. It took a lot for me to drain it down low.

I vote BAMF SoaB. But I'm biased.

Never had any problems with CM7 via protekk's builds. Run fast and smooth, and get great battery life. Plus it's clean so I don't have to worry about washing my hands after using it
Skyraider 1.3. Gives the best balance of htc sense functionality, battery life, customizations, and speed. I would stay away from sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. They initially seem smooth; however in everyday use they will lag on you. The phone is just not designed for 3.0/3.5 sense. The 2.1/3.0 hybrid roms work well which is what the skyraider 1.3 rom is. If you don't like sense, then run CM 7.1.1 or Liquid Smooth 3.2. The non-sense roms will be a little faster, but I like the widgets that come with sense.
Update: Forgot MIUI rom. Very nice if you like the apple-esk look and feel. Very smooth.
BAMF forever 1.1
How do i find the BAMF forever 1.1 rom. When I use ROM mamanger I only see 1.0.5
Another vote for SkyRaider Zeus 1.3.
Near perfect for me.
Miui tons of customization very good batt life and very smooth
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA App
BAMF roms are probably the most stable roms and I tried most of them already I even bricked my phone a couple of times trying all the roms and so far I'm sticking with this ROM called thunder stick 3d
I've tried Bamf Forever, SkyRaider, SoaB, MIUI and Gingeritis 3D.
My vote out of all 3 is Gingeritis! Battery life has been a ton better than the Bamf roms and MIUI I only liked on my Droid X. Wasn't a fan on my T'Bolt.
Liquid Gingerbread 3.2
Liquid's AOSP 3.2 is by far the best rom I've used, it's based on CM7, which is technically still a beta, but I think that's just because the official support on the CM website is slated for CM9, I have no issues with Liquid 3.2 and I tend to be picky about dealing with bugs, and battery life is good the way it comes, better than Sense based roms, and you can configure the kernel for batterysaver which makes it even better.
[ROM-STOCK-605.9] iKReaM.What.Thee.ROM.605.9-R3Ds this rom is legit but if someone could tell me what that clock is and how get it i would greatly appreciate it
I used CM7.1 most of the time but switch to a BAMF Sense 3.0 ROM on Thursday nights (and sometimes Sunday and Monday night) to watch NFL Mobile. They are both nice, but Sense 3.0 has some stupid issues, like lack of landscape mode, lower volume by default, dodgy Bluetooth support, etc, it's enough to make you want to get rid of it.
I have th3oryrom - ics
I vote for th3ory, i like that it is non htc sense. And this one is a ics look/feel rom. This is a link to dhacker29's rom (http://th3oryrom.com/ROMS/SHIFTAO5P_IC3.2.1.zip );and although it is 2.3.7 android it still seems like you're using ics. the only bug i have found is flash keeps crapping out. there's a thread i found (non t-bolt related) that i found where going to adjust (remove all) permissions fixes this but which folder i do not remember.
You won't get many votes for this b/c the developer isn't going to update it (at least i don't think) b/c they have moved on to another phone.
EDIT: i did a search for you if you're inclined to dnld this rom. in the Q&A bolt forum there is one i located that path on your phone you may need to find using root explorer to run flash. "/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data" after this path go to permissions on this file and deselect all check marks.
Google Music
it is an awesome rom but since CLEAN flashing this rom, ive had issues streaming my music from google, it sucks, i read other people having this problem as well so i tried the various fixes i found and to no avail, its a deal breaker for me cuz i wanna listen to the music i paid for. im gonna try SHIFT AO5P n see if it produces some positive results, if not, im going back to INFECTEDROM. I WANT MY GOOGLE MUSICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!

I'm curious if anyone that has moved from an Evo 4G to an Evo 3D has a used, rooted Evo 4G that gets good battery life that they might want to sell at a ressonable price.
My wife and I both got early, pre-ordered Evo's from one of the lots that just gets crappy battery life no matter what. April's not that far away, but at the right price I'd replace my wife's now. She has an extended battery (3500 mAh) and gets less than many of our friends do with the stock battery, and the stock battery is far worse.
Thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Thank you for your time.
I just got a used Evo 4G off ebay for $110 shipped. Rooting it is a piece of cake even on gingerbread now.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
If you get a evo throw CM 7 on it or whatever the latest CM is nowadays. Best battery life I have ever seen.

Whats the best sense based Rom for battery life?
Any ROM can achieve amazing battery life, just make sure you have setCPU and under clock the CPU. I get 5 days on minimal use on my 3D.

I would love to challenge this. I'm not calling BS because well, I don't know you and I just don't really do that but I DO want to know what type of usage you are doing. In my experience I can get a few days if I just pop on to text and check emails but not with anything past medium to heavy usage.
As for the 4G, YMMV so just read up on it. I agree CM plus custom kernel I probably got the best battery I have ever gotten on a phone period but everything past build 150 that started to decline. Sense based Roms I would suggest anything in the 2.1/3.0 hybrid family plus chop suey kernel. The 3.0 and 3.5 just never really ran right for an extended period for me and the battery was really quirky. Also, most of the 3.0 to 3.5 features were not really available in full form so it was kind of pointless.
I migrated at the beginning of the ICS releases so I would also check into those. I sometimes float back and they are FAR more advanced than we are right now.
i have a valid question for you guys. every ice cream rom ive tried has given me significant lag/choppiness and heats up my rezound. now today i played with both a gnexus at verizon and a htc one x at at&t and it was smooth as butter. is our issues because of no ota or kernel source? just curious as to what you guys think?
thanks!

Both I would take a very educated guess in saying. no OTA means it is a work in progress and no kernel source means that the kernels aren't really tweaked out for the ROMs they are running....
my guess is sense bogs us down a good bit. also ics is coded for the gnex.
Without kernel source, we're stuck with what the leak has. From what I've read, that is not good.

Yeah, Sense 3.5/.6 are steaming piles of laggy crap, but 4.0 seems really nice.
I have official ics on my unrooted galaxy tab 2. It has the touchwiz overlay but is still superfast. I was worried too that ICS was slow until I got this. I think the omap processor is a better performer on average than a qualcomm too, but not by much.
If you are running the gb kernel and firmware it is hit or miss with ics roms for the rezound. GB will always be faster if running gb firmware and kernel. I hope that the ics kernel is fixed when we get the official ics update and that sense doesnt bog things down. We really need htc to release kernel source and firmware in order to have a solid base for ics roms imo. I love Rez Rom Sense 3.6 ICS though, runs pretty good even on old firmware.

Actually for me all of the sense 4.0 ports were super laggy. I can say gb seems more fluid but the battery life still stinks on my rezound. That one x is really a nice device but im thinking this may be my last htc. I havent had good luck with the brand.
Thanks for the responses guys.
ICS doesn't lag for me ever, but I dig the Senseless roms for the looks, and indeed, Sense 4.0 isn't optimized for us yet.

Agreed, if there were such a range in hardware that some overheated while others were great, I'd expect that HTC's quality control was so bad that half the units that were produced wouldn't even power up. Always get a kick out reading about someone who has warrantied a couple of phones then in the next breath says "I'm running "xyz" kernel and OC'd...
Anyway, would you mind sharing your setup Gray? It might help others to know what a working ICS setup is. What Kernel, Radios and other specifics are you running.
What I find is interesting is that with my first rezound I had a horrible experience when I flashed the ICS leak. Extreme overheating, even worse battery life, but it was nothing that I could have done. It was the radios on some hardware that cause this issue. I sent it back, got another, and reran the leak. Haven't looked back since. It's also worth noting that I have a way better experience with ICS then I did with GB. GB scrolling was always choppy and just overall sluggish. ICS fixed all that along with giving me a battery life ranging from 11-17 hours depending on usage.

I also have a better user experience, as in runs faster, smoother, and less lag along with better battery life on ice cream sandwich than I did on gingerbread. I think a lot of it has to do with how it's set up and configured. And I understand that some people have genuine hardware problems but it seems that it's causing a lot of people to quickly attribute their issues to hardware and not spend the time to chase down the problem and solve it. Regardless another leaked kernel or an official OTA base will definitely be welcomed and help this beast run even better.

I don't get any "lag" persay with any Rom I've used. What drives me a little nuts is the stuttery and choppy scrolling in a LOT of apps I use daily. The text and the pictures chop, even though the scrolling motion is smooth. Facebook, zynga apps, internet (if its more than text) messaging app, contacts, reddit news... There are some that don't stutter though. Twicca, tapatalk, menu scrolling, root explorer...

That annoyed me about GB (stock and CleanROM 1.7.5). Even on ICS, Facebook scrolling is choppy, unless you enable Force GPU rendering. Running ICS with Force GPU rendering is an incredibly smooth experience, and I haven't run into any bugs. I'm surprised it's not enabled by default in all ROMs.
I think that people having a better experience on a hacked(nicely mind you), sense 4.0 rom must have set up Gingerbread wrong. See how easy it is to make a statement like that. I have experienced both ics, and gb, and have always had a smoother experience on gb. I hated how ics scrolling in the browser, xda app, tapatalk, and others was jittery at best. I love some of the elements of ics, but the trade off was too much for me. My phone ran about 11 degrees different between ics, and gb. Also, if you go back to around Christmas, overheating was an issue then. On stock. So apparently, this phone can have heat issues. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone, and I appreciate all the work that goes into making roms. I have been following these developers for quite a while. They are all really good. We are blessed to have them.

So it is the GPU that's the problem as I thought.... But thankfully it isnt because its not good enough. Lol. It's just because its more limited c
So it's been roughly a week since the ICS leak hit. What are your impressions?
I didn't think a tweaked GB 2.3.4 rom was too bad, at least not to the point where I constantly pined over ICS. GB was satisfactory to say the least.
ICS has been pretty impressive imo. Battery life has definitely improved and things feel a bit more peppier. Then again it could all be placebo effect. I mainly preferred a sense base rom for the camera and I'm pretty happy i can have the best of both worlds.
Overall if my level of satisfaction with the 2.3.4 roms was a 7/10 i would rate my satisfaction a 9/10 with ICS.
What do you guys think so far?
So far so good, i would rate it 9.5/10.
I am personally much happier with ICS then GB. I like the look and feel I just wish i had the same service (coverage) as GB. I now get HORRIBLE reception. Hopefully there will be an update for my completely stock Amaze.
Very stable here.

I'm having the same experience.
the only thing i really dislike about ics is the lack of apps optimized for ics (no fault of ics of course)
my reception doesn't feel changed at all.
I guess its because where i am its either 1. very strong or 2. weak to the point where there is no signal.
I am using NRG ICS, but I was on stock for a day. I really like it, and the battery is twice as good.
My favorite feature is that one can combine icons on the desktop to create "folders" with multiple programs. I keep all my browsers in the space needed by only one icon. Very cool.
I like ARHD. I'm getting fast data speeds and good reception. The battery life isn't all that great. I already reconditioned it 3 times, and did a battery stats wipe. Unplugged it at 12 am, and checked it at 6am. It was already at 86 percent. If it was my glacier, it would be at 95 or more. I also used better battery stats app, and disabled any rouge apps. Juice defender running disabling all data, and system tuner sets the governor to powersave while the screen is off.
For some reason, I can't get the radio settings to stick. It always goes back to gsm whenever I tried to set it to gsm/wcdma prl or anything else.

Yeah, I just stumbled on them in GB as well. I think it's a sense feature rather than a GB feature. I think I remember watching a video showing folders on whatever version of IOS first had them and thought that'd be cool, and one day saw I could do it on my phone. My reception has gotten slightly better, stock ICS with Apex launcher is much smoother than any GB ROM I've tried, and even though I'm not a fan of HTC Sense's overhead, I'm still pretty happy with it
I like the leak. I've been running stock rooted and debloated with apex launcher and its WAY better than 3.0. Especially with Apex.
ICS is MUCH snappier (no placebo). It has everything I liked from 3.5 with improvements in performance.

1. MUCH improved battery life.
2. Snappier response.
3. 150MB less memory usage on average. I've changed nothing about my usage habits. This probably contributes quite a bit to the snappier performance.
I'm not sure if reception is better, haven't really been paying attention. Overall I'm impressed. I like the return to the icon bar instead of that stupid giant PHONE button with two other useless things on it. I am noticing a little bit of stutter on cpu intensive apps; wonder if that's just tweaking/optimization that will be taken care of in the release.
I think my phone reception is a little bit better with the new radio, but my wifi reception has gone crazy with the new radio. Sometimes I'll have full bars sitting in one spot, and 0 wifi bars a minute later in the same spot. I do like ICS a lot more than GB though.
Perhaps those are some of the issues the T-Mobile team wants HTC to fix before the actual release.
Truly is ICS better than Gingerbread in real life [on the EVO 3D]? I find myself flashing multiple ICS roms hoping to gain the smoothness of GB but I just can't find it.
I know the features ICS brings are great:
- Chrome support
- Better sleep management
- Better system/data management (cant confirm this)
- 32 bit color by default (cant confirm this)
But one thing GB has that ICS doesn't is complete capability with our phones. We were able to make GB fly and I feel since Sprint is dragging their feet to release the update, we will have some time before ICS flies like GB. By then Jelly Bean will be running. It's a vicious cycle.
I am all for trying out new software, I love being on the bleeding edge of technology. However, for example, when playing Max Payne on ICS, the joystick would stop responding or the framerate will drop dramatically. That never happened on GB.
So my question is, whats your reason for running ICS on your EVO 3D? It is because its the latest and greatest or is there a certain feature I am missing? Because I am starting not to see a benefit.
**Disclamer: I read a couple of threads related to this but this subject was never expanded on. Mods feel free to close if you think this is redundant.**
I run it because I'm yet to have 1 problem that's not a known ics general issue.
Sent from my Evo 3D on Sprint's blazing fast 3G network with 4G coverage everywhere
For cdma phones yes, the 2.17 base was an excelent base for GB roms. Us poor GSM users had a crap base which when even overclocked was probably still slower than the current ICS.. for example low 2000 quadrants and 24fps nenamark
I just wish there was a way to use the 2.17 base roms on GSM, I would certainly use it. :good:
ICS runs fine on my phone. And I'm easily getting at least 24 hours per battery, as opposed to 12 hours with GB.
ICS definitely has better battery management. However, for me personally, I don't mind having less battery with more performance since I have multiple batteries I can just swap out. A perfect balance is what I look to achieve. ICS beats GB in terms of battery life but I have to give the best performance title to GB.

There hasn't been an official ICS release? (For CDMA at least). Generally its been a 90 day or so time frame for source release. We should see GSM source in the next couple of months. While HTC isn't the fastest at releasing they haven't ever failed to release source that I'm aware of.

Disagree with this post 100%.
Even though im running a GSM version, i can tell you right now that the phone is 100% different then the GB version. Its faster, smoother, and runs far more efficient. (ive only got 200 mb used of ram, when my GB version was running around 400-450, and i still have to remove junk from my ICS version once i root it.)

Again this is for the GSM version, it may not be true for CDMA phones as i doubt you have one to compare...
I myself believe the fact that their phones run worse on ICS then ours because the same thing was happening to us on GB...
I think for me gb gave me problems with youtube....always skipping in the middle. But going to ics has fixed that. Everything is smoother. Battery life to me isn't much of a problem since I have about two extra batteries.

ICS runs way better than GB did. side by side comparisons of Eternity 1.4.2 vs inbREDed 5.2 verify that for me in an instant.
apps load faster, menus react quicker, etc. I'll never go back to GB and can't wait for an Anthrax kernel for this.
I do wish that the Sense 4 ROM's had 3D and 4G though, because those things run really, really nice.. *sigh*
Interesting feedback, thank you everyone. This is definitely "food for thought".
Whats your feedback on game performance? I usually find myself playing one of the Rockstar or Gameloft games I have purchased and I feel ICS framerates drops much more than GBs.
I feel that since GB's kernel source has been released, devs were able to tweak it for maximum performance under heavy load vs a stock kernel which would be somewhat conservative on performance.
And yes I do have a CDMA version but input from GSM users are welcomed.
Hate to be the one to say it but the second our devices are graced with JB performance and battery life will not just reach the best balance yet, but take both to new levels.
Were in developmental limbo right now, and shortly enough new JB roms will start pumping out, keeping users happy for quite a while

Not everyone will jump on JB. I know I won't. I have good 4G coverage and want to keep that, especially since my speeds have been going up. and I want to keep 3D. So if those aren't present I'm staying on ICS
I really wish we had a stable build of CM7 for CDMA to play with, htc holding the source on ICS kernels has made the ICS dev basically come to a crawl and it saddens me lol... My old Evo4G had a new ROM out everyday it seemed and IMO CM9 was more stable there than on the 3D. Nothing against the wonderful devs here as it's not their fault htc is being stingy with source.

Do not compair roms just on benchmarks... ICS is waaaayy better than gb even without overclocking. Solo many more features in ICS made it impossible for me to go back to GB

I don't actually have an evo, but I've been using an HTC hd2 for a long time, until yesterday.
I was running the latest ics version mostly just to be on the bleeding edge of technology. Their were a few things I really liked more and reasons I wanted to run it because of, but mostly i wanted ics because it was new.
We also had gingerbread roms that were blazing fast and worked almost perfectly. In all honesty they were amazing.
Then ics came along. Many of the drivers were not there for our device and the devs start working like crazy to fix them or write them, just whatever needed to be done.
However even to this day ics does not run as well as gb did. It is very stable, not a lot of fc's but it still has some. In reality its just not yet the same quality gb was.
I think that until HTC releases the kernal source like for the evo and other phones that ics will not run as good as gb. In no way is this in offense to the devs. I just know that its hard to match a companies time and man power when your doing something for free.
In short, unless their is a lot of official support I do not think ics runs as well as gb either.
