Hi,
I was wondering what Internet & Antivirus people were using on thier smartphones..
I know theres quite a few options, such as AVG, Norton, etc..
But what do people recommend and why?
Thank you in advance for any replies..
You can get the full version of Norton as a trial for 90 days from the Samsung app store. Then switch to avg from playstore

Thank you, but what i'm asking is if there are any alternatives that people recommend/prefer??
I don't and have never used an anti-virus... It's really unnecessary.
Use Avast Mobile Security from the Play Store

+1 for DroidWall. It has the added benefit of blocking ads in a particular app if you decide to not allow it access to the network.
However, I should say that it doesn't EXACTLY do what you are asking. It allows you control as to what apps may or may not access the network, either via 3g, WiFi, or both. As far as I know, it doesn't tell you when one of the apps you allow access to the network actually does.
If you want something that asks you to allow/deny, try this
ps this was the 3rd result for android firewall, the first 2 being droid wall, just saying everything is out there google and you shall find.
Edit: well it seems twitter brought the company behind whispermonitor and thus all the downloads have disappeared, I will try to find an apk.
Edit2: it seems that whispermonitor only worked on the nexus S and one other phone, shame it looked promising.
Your best bet is droid wall, there is also Pdroid but it needs a rom patch.
Thank you
Will try your recommend solution

Well i did some more reading about it, and its more of a whole rom/rom mod than an apk file and it was only compatible with the nexus S and Desire I think.
Droidwall is your best bet.
Avast firewall do better than droidwall, it really alert you if any apps trying to make an connection on yhe the background, but avast is big app that come with antivirus protection which seems to be useless for android os so far.
Rom : samsung stock firmware

I'll add AppTrafficFree https://market.android.com/details?id=net.ir.apptrafficfree
is the best to see which apps or games are wasting your data.
Dylan
That app is great.
Thank you

This app is great but it would be nice if you can reset the counter so that we know what data we have used in a month or week.
THank You

Droidwall doesn't work on Samsung Galaxy S2. I use ICS v4.0.3 and it is rooted!
I try for example to block all app on 3G then played Angry birds and the adds are still there..I think this app waste my time!!
Hello Everyone,
I'm a new user of android OS and GS3 and I don't know much about its apps
I wanna know if there is any application like "Find my Iphone" for the GS3.
And if you know more programs I can use with my phone to protect it from theft or to track it or something like that I'll be grateful
Thanks in advance :good:
Search for Cerberus in the Play Store

Even the pre installed Samsung dive software is quite useful, but I normally install Cerberus as an additional measure. I am a rooted user so this app is quite useful to me

Thanks very much guys for the help
Do you have any advice about anti-virus programs ?
Do you mean anti-virus?
Avast and Dr.Web (beta) are both free and with excellent recognition capabilities.
If you're rooted and want that extra layer, you can also use avast's firewall or Droidwall to prevent apps from connecting to the internet.
Avast additionally brings a lost-/stolen-phone tracker with good capabilities.

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry I was in hurry and forgot to write "virus" word
Thanks mate for the advice
Actually my phone still in stock condition. I didn't root or customize any thing till now. I'm still reading about the flashing, modding and backup processes and I'm worry of losing the warranty too.
Any way thanks a lot
If so, which one??
Avast anti-virus is good and its also free!

As i see, the highest rated are:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antivirus&feature=search_result
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout&feature=search_result
You don't need an antivirus... Just don't download all kind of crap.
Never once used an anti-virus on my linux pc or my android phone, never needed to - just don't go downloading random crap apps that have no reputable reviews or seem suspect (e.g. you think its a paid app and its suddenly available free)
Dont use Anti virus as far easier to reinstall lol
either avast or norton (from samsung apps)

Both of them are good ones, but the second one will charge u money for some features. But as the others said, dont download useless apps and u wont have a problem!

I prefer and use Lookout for it's malware scanning features, but equally for the find/alarm/lock/wipe features. Mistakes happen.
Hi,
I detach an app from the market using Titanium backup pro, but after a few hours, Google play still attaches it.
Is it possible to rename the app or maybe a string somewhere such that it will still launch but Google play won't recognise it?
Thanks.

Why would you want that ?
Is this to avoid licence verification checks? If so I don't think you will get much help here.

What is the app i can check in google play settings for you .
jje
The upgrade to the app is a downgrade to me.that's why.
I already know how to avoid license verification checks, but I prefer to buy my apps and support the developer. I'm a successful business man and know the importance of having your products paid for, and not going for free.

Play store remove auto updates .
jje
Its an annoying problem this. Titanium can break market links but they always re-appear. Its annoying because the spp always appears in the "update all" list so you either have to update all then quickly cancel for the one app, or don't use update all.
Its an annoying oversight from Google. I've been hoping they address this properly for years.

I need help with droidsheep. Every time I download it and open it, it opens and the superuser prompt comes, but after that it just goes to a black screen and it stays like that. I have tried to download it from different web sites too, but the same thing happens. I am rooted on a verizon galaxy s4 on vruame7. Please help.

You mean droidsheep guard? Droidsheep itself is illegal and illegal stuff can't be discussed in xda
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Theres a 14 page thread about it already on xda so it must be ok to discuss. Its been there for over a year. Probably be better off posting there. Easy to find if you google it.

I did search on Google, but all of the ones that showed were on how to fix it if the app open, but for me droidsheep doesn't even open

Same issue
hey man im having the same problems as you are :/
Its really frustrating because i cant seem to find any more information on it. Have you had any luck?
I just installed Droidsheep guard on both my phones as I stay in hotels a lot and use open WiFi networks. It will automatically activate and protect your phone from malicious attacks when you connect to an open network, or any WiFi network for that matter. Its a small file that works in the background.

Yes!! I found you how to make it work!!! Just install busy box from the play store and install the latest version. Then download droidsheep again and try it. It works!
