I have a very light on resources build that you can get 3 to 4 days on light to moderate use with a gingerbread base. I am asking how i take my files and make them into a build. I have ubuntu root and a razr but i am terrible at code. I would like to give back to the forums and i am not claiming to be a dev or an official but I have my phone at decent settings and want to share. I will credit the devs as well. when i get down to almost fully discharging the phone, i will report battery stats. I can not wait for ICS.

well define "light to moderate use" for you, because I can hit 5-7 days with light use, which still has about 3 hours screen on time, on my Maxx.

Well i got my phone idle to be at the top with 31 percent but Android OS is up there underneath it. Battery life was terrible at first but as i modified things it got better. How did you get Android OS that low of usage? I was hoping for a day without dying and now i got 3 to 4 depending on use.
I have turned pretty much everything off. I have the suspend bug. 50 to 100 text messages, constantly checking the time. I installed cpu spy and if i dont touch my phone it deep sleeps to like 90% of the time. Nothing has really changed until i disabled mobile data and set to cdma only then the battery got noticeably better. When i start using it then it decides to drain more. Are you complete stock or rooted slightly modified stock? Thanks and my name is daniel as well.

OK, my settings are CDMA only (because we have no 4G in my area), and using smart actions "battery extender" set with triggers of "Screen off" and "charging" (charging so data will be on when phone is plugged to charger) and the Actions are "Disable background sync" and "Disable cellular data". Basically if my screen is off then my 3G/4G radios are off, what you lose with these settings is "push notifications", and the 3G can sometimes take up to a minute to reconnect. I am rooted but only done that about 3 weeks ago so I could use the screenshot apps and adfree, I have not frozen or removed ANY bloat. The other thing I do is every other time I charge it (so about every 2 weeks) I reboot the phone, you know just power it off all the way and back on, takes a few minutes but it seams to help, when I first got my phone I was getting about 3 days then after a month of continuous use the phone got slow and glitchy so I rebooted it and the next charge made it 4 days, so I made it a regular thing, I guess like with windows XP rebooting clears some files or something, the smart action settings above then took me from 4 days to 5+ days.
On the default "battery extender" triggers there is one for "motion" you need to remove that one.

will jd ultimate significantly improve my battery life,i'm a moderate user on a rooted razr
I used it for a while, and didn't find any significant modifications.
I did notice a significant difference when using JD Ultimate. However I had to stop using it because it interfered with my apps that sync in the background (Dropsync, etc).

What i did was I just went to stock.
I go back and forth. But I rooted and then
Bloat freeze and system app remover that could
help alot.
yeah it does work, helps to achieve the 12 hour battery life. read my thread on how to achieve it using juicedefender, just check threads started by me
It works well and I recommend it to everyone EXCEPT for whatsapp "whores" who needs a working connection every second.
What is does is simple. Basically, It turns off 3G connection, and turn it on every 15 mins. If you have an ongoing connection, like if you're downloading a file, it will not turn off its 3G connection until the download is over.
This will not affect phone calls and SMS.
For Ultimate, you can customise it turn 3G on more frequently during peak hours like checking every 5 min during 9 to 5 (working hrs), and set it to less frequently during sleep time.
I dont recommend jd ultimate, on rooted stock if your in an area with 4g lte and want to use it, it seems that it caused some strange issues booting down and up the radio, I used it on my og Droid with cm7 and it worked like a dream, so I'd guess it'd work better on an asop built ROM

Yeah, this ^
It DOES significantly improve battery life, but when you go to use something like a browser, there's a delay while the wifi or 3G/4G radio "wakes up". No free lunch.
Keep your GPS off when not in use, keep screen brightness at a reasonable level, use wifi over 3G/4G when possible, you'll improve battery life without the downsides.
I use it, better than smart actions for me, nicest thing it learns, and you can change it to your needs. Sometimes you do have to wait for radio's to reconnect, but it's seconds, and you can make it fit your needs, and it does save battery life, just depends how much you want it to control.

This is an accurate assessment of jd. I have ultimate and find that it does extent my battery life by several hours but you will notice a bit of lag with your data connection and inconsistency for apps with background sync. I turn it off when I know I'll be around a plug if needed.
19 hours yesterday!
i got 19 hours still had 30%battery life, normal activaties for me include fb,words with friends, speedtest, texting, even talked on phone for 20 minutes,jd ultimate really does work, you just have to play with it to get it right and remember not much will ever help if your screen is on a long time
I have been having battery issues for about 3 weeks now. Plus the phone is nowhere near as fast as it was. As you can see, I'm not getting what I should from the MAXX battery. I'm on the .75 leak and have been for 2 months. How do I figure out what is killing my phone?

I'm pretty sure that's just from the unrefined nature of the .75 leak. Have you considered updating to the .79 leak? It remains fastbootable while patching a lot of bugs and I would guess increase performance.
I don't think so. I've had ICS for 2 months now and the problem is only recent. I don't know if it is an app I downloaded or what. The problem is that I don't know how to find out what it is. Between Amazon free apps and other programs, I don't know how to diagnose what is killing my battery and slowing my phone down. I am sure there is a way to figure it out, I just don't know how other than deleting an app a day and watching performance. I imagine there must be an easier way.

Do you always use 4G? It has higher power consumption.
Do you have any under clock settings for screen off that you just set, the lower frequency could be keeping it out of deep sleep.
And to see what apps are using up your battery, download Watchdog Task Manager Lite, it informs you of tasks, apps or processes that are using up a lot of cpu, memory and keeping your phone awake while in deep sleep.

I stopped using WiFi 2 days after getting the phone because 4G is honestly faster and I still have unlimited data. I have never used any set-cpu settings because I never felt I had to with this phone like I did on my DInc2. The issue I have is it was working great one day, and suddenly the performance changed without anything I can think of other than keeping skype on. I just flashed back to .181 with the expected ICS OTA. Totally screwed up. Didn't nandroid, didn't TB, just did it on a whim. Now I have encountered a whole new set of issues. It's gonna be a long night. Once I get all this fixed, I will try the app you suggested so thanks. Sigh.
"The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." And now I can't do crap with it other than reboot. Man, I should have just left well enough alone. Dammit.
What Leak you got installed? If it's the 75 or 79 you can flash back to 181 I guess.

Yeah.. just flashed back to .181. Voodoo rootkeeper didn't work. I got root back through the razr utility. TB wouldn't work but then I rebooted and it worked although I got the error message I mentioned above. Did a factory reset. Kept root but now my backup directory in TB is not available. Tried rebooting and it still won't work. At this point, all I care about is that my alarm works and I can go to bed and work on it again tomorrow. BTW.. after having ICS for the last few months, I forgot how much Gingerbread sucks just on a user friendly level. Took me a Google search to remember how to turn on USB debugging.
Nevermind. You can't restore from TB while still plugged and in debugging mode because the system can't access the SD card. D'oh!
Note to all users. Always back your s**t up before you mess with your phone. I hadn't TB'd in a week and lost all my notes from this week. Thankfully the phone is working back to normal on 2.3, but I lost some numbers I needed to call because I forgot to backup.
Good news: I can focus on my original problem and find out what is killing the battery.
Bad news: I didn't TB and don't know where my dentist appt is tomorrow, lost the numbers to 2 new clients and 1 new booty call.
Extra bad news: She was really hot too. :crying:

Keeping Skype on, especially when not connected to WIFI was most likely your problem, look at how low your cell standby was in that screenshot, that's indicative of something constantly using the cell radios and clearly it wasn't your voice calls, so skype maintaining a constant data connection plus it preventing the phone from going to deep sleep is almost certainly the source of that problem.

The problem now is that when I root through Matt's utility and then restore with TiBu, it creates all sorts of issues with my phone like my home screen reloading, the calendar being unable to load, the home button not working, etc. The phone is fine now, but I want it back to all the settings I had. Could it be because I backed up while on ICS and now am trying to restore on GB?
Any suggestions here?

The backing up on ICS and restoring to GB would only mess up if you're restoring apps and data because ICS app data isn't compatible with GB.

That is exactly what I was doing. What option would I want to choose when I restore?
Just throwing this out there, I have played around with a few of the ICS roms, using safestrap installs, to retain the back to GB option. I have found that I get about 50% less battery life on the ICS roms. On an average day I use my phone moderately, past two day, back on GB, at around this time of day I am at about 60% battery. While on ICS leaks, I was at about 30% with similar use throughout the day. Anyone else have such a stark difference with ICS?

I have stayed on the Roms for several days(a week on first round of trying them out) and still much worse battery life. You are on the GSM Razr? I am on CDMA, you know of any difference with radios that would cause the difference? Generally have LTE off both GB and ICS.

I was a bit hesitant to agree about there being a battery issue, until i was satisfied that id had enough time with the ROM.
But the truth is in the pudding so to say... I am able to make it through the day but i am getting at best 2/3 the amount i was on gingerbread.
9.5 hours of battery, 80% of which was taken up by screen time of 4hrs.
Yesterday i was convinced battery was fine, today i know there's something's amiss

I have found the exact opposite. My office gets horrible cell reception and my phone was constantly trying to connect on gingerbread. It would always show the kernel as using the majority of the battery. Since ICS my phone rarely drops connection and my kernel now barely consumes any battery. I'm making it until five everyday with 50% battery left while with gingerbread my phone was always dead by five.

I was in the soak test, 1st I got the standard email getting everyone's opinions of the soak. Then yesterday I got a 2nd email from the MFN for a 2nd survey. This 2nd survey was all about the battery life. So, yeah, Moto knows that there are some issues with decreased battery life. I've noticed a decrease in battery life. Even so, I'm still happy with ICS. Most of the issues I've noticed have more to do with apps than ICS itself. Some apps, when I want to go back a screen, it instead takes me all the way out. Even the XDA app does this. Anyone else notice this issue?
I'm not 100% sure what the cause of the battery issue is.
In my case, on GB I would could typically go from about 6AM to 4PM before I would need to charge it again on a normal Droid RAZR. On ICS, at first I could only go for only about 2-3 hours before experiencing a 50% drop in power - meaning only about 5 hours before needing to hit the charger. For this reason, and other issues, I opted to perform a Factory Reset. It solved the problems I experienced, including my battery issue. On ICS, I can now go from 6AM to 6PM with a battery meter reading of 50%. Translation - for the first time with this phone and normal use (for me) I can go all day without having to worry about a charger. So, this is a huge improvement. But it did require a Factory Reset for me to get this level of performance.
I would like to be able to say the same but.... I did a factory reset before and after loading ics.

Just curious, when you installed, how did you go about installing/reinstalling your apps? When I did the reset, I just let Google Play do it automagically for me. It got me about 90% there. There were a few things I needed to add and configure. Also, I stopped using another launcher and just went with ICS. I don't know if those are differences that might make a different or not.
I actually did not let google restore anything. I wanted a fresh base to work off of. Installed from market one at a time.

Actually the first china leak (120) gave my battery a lot more usage time, significantly.
But when i switched to MIUI rom my battery life significantly dropped down, every minute of usage=1% of battery .
Try to use the stock rom for a couple of days,at least the stock leaked china rom has very good battery life for GSM devices .
I've had ICS for a week now. At first my battery didn't lady add long. But after a few days and a FDR it its lasting longer than it did on gb.

It really will be determined by what you plan to use on your phone? Any of the roms can give great or terrible battery life. I build the MIUI for the mighty little Photon. I love it, and the battery life is good enough for my liking overall (avg around 10 hours on an Anker 1600mAh battery). If you want better battery life, use the following:
1) Keep screen timeout down to under 30 seconds. Havina this screen on fora minute is just dumb...LOL
2) Set your e-mail accounts up to poll every 15 or 30 minutes. Having them on PUSH will require them to run in the background all day, and will reduce your battery life...especially if it's an Exchange one.
3) Turn off GPS when not in use. This is a KILLER on ANY ICS rom. It'll suck your battery dead faster than any other thing on your phone
4) Turn off wifi if you're somewhere you won't be using it. Having it constantly searching for open access points will kill your battery
5) Use a darker theme
My best advice...try all of the roms....since a flash takes literally 2 minutes, you can try them all. Flash it, run it for a day, see if you like it, then if you don't go on to the next one

Isn't miui a white theme? Making for less battery life? I usually don't use wifi and leave gps on for work other than that my screen is set to 30 and 30 second timeout... I just need to know, I guess, which rom is the lightest?

Awesome! I guess I'll just have to see which has the least apps installed as a base... Any idea on which one has the least amount of apps starting out? I know CM9 is pretty lite
The reason I'm asking all this is because my only source of downloading is my phone so I'm limited as I'm no longer in a 4g area. Thanks for all the help in advance!

I saw my best battery life in AOKPCB, but I couldn't keep away MIUI.
So far cm9 is pretty bad... Tried miui but the apps are kinda hard to get used too, I heard aokpcb is pink? What about aokp?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App
AOKPCB is not pink at all. It's mostly ics blue. AOKP is similar to cm9.

I get pretty good battery life on cm9 with powersave/deadline, profiles, slight undervolting and slight underclocking.10 hour of pretty moderate to heavy use and im at 55%.

No disrespect intended, sir, but I hate this idea. One of the first thing I do is crank my screen timeout up as high as it will go (10 minutes, I think). Nothing worse than your screen dimming when you're trying to do something. If I'm using it, the dimmer can back the frak up. When I'm done, I'll hit the power button and let it go to sleep.
That said, if I'm in low light, I turn the brightness down as far as it will go. Makes it easier to read. My CM7 notification toggle for brightness has two settings: Dim and 100%. I use both regularly depending on where I am.
Also, I find that battery use fluctuates a lot. I've gotten 20 hours on my stock battery -- that was in CM9 or Paranoid Android, one of the two (the latter is CM9 based, but the CM9 and Paranoid Android bases are outdated). I've also gotten as little as 6. I've never heard of a universal benchmark to measure battery life definitively. It's gonna differ every day because your usage changes every day. It's gonna differ from person to person because your location in relation to cell towers is different from mine. At home, my phone works its ass off to stay connected. At work, not so much. My 20 hour run was at work.
None of the ROMs have patently abysmal battery life. One thing that will definitely help is the lack of background processes, so any de-Blur'd ROM (including all ICS ROMs) would have a leg up over stock for that reason alone. Blur has so much crap running in the background, it's disgusting.
Oh, and Amazon Appstore and its notification spam. I bet that sucks up a bit of battery. "Hey hey look at me, you have X updates" *open Appstore* "No apps to update, trollface.jpg". Seriously, the Update tab should display a trollface when there's nothing to update, because you probably went there because of that stupid notification. Maybe use Titanium to freeze Appstore if apps you got through it don't require it to verify your purchase, and follow the free app of the day via Twitter via SMS or something.

Generally speaking, if you're in the middle of something, you really don't need the screen on any longer that 30-60 seconds.

Hey, good question about which ICS Rom having the best battery life. I would definitely have to go with CM9 by Jokersax. The battery life may be bad for a few days, but according to the replies and posts on his website. Battery life will be more exceptional after 3 days of usage. I like my CM9 Rom and it has better battery life everyday. But it is all based on personal preference.
I'm using CM9 7.0.0
Just got it last night and personally the battery life kinda sucks. But I just set up my profiles and whatnot. I also notice the battery life getting better.
Then again it could completely be my fault for always using my phone.

Well I've tested cm 9 for almost 3 days and battery life only lasted for 10 hours on moderate use. I then chose to go with miui for 2 days battery life again was a little bit better only getting 12 hours with moderate use. Then I went to the aokp port bill released and so far I've gotten 16 hours with moderate to heavy use my battery is only at 20 percent and the rom is amazing! Thanks th3bill

I switched to aokpcb and its working nice. Although I'm still ALWAYS on my phone. It lasts about 8 hours.
My usage is. Text/YouTube/mine craft all day :3

Just an update: I've been running aokp for 2 weeks and got 20 hours average but have decided to switch to paranoid and so far have pretty much the same battery life and it just keeps getting better thanks for everything you all have done so far you have truly made this one of the best phones on the market

please mates i need your help I am a noob.
first let me start from telling you guys the history of me and my phone.
I got my phone with a stock ice cream sandwich. using the phone i noticed that the battery doesn't last long. the battery drains so fast the i need to charge a minimum of two times daily for the phone to stay on. later i did an OTA update to jellybean 4.1.2. no significant improve in battery lifespan. battery can drain up in less 4-6 hrs of listening to music using normal earphone. i tried switching off 3G, reducing screen brightness to 30%. removing live wallpapers and battery never exceeds 5-6hrs. 3G browsing kills my battery within 3hrs, 2hrs + most times. All these after fully charged. When the battery is 100% charged and unplugged used for 5mins i can see it drop to 80% right in front of my eyes. it tries to seat at 80% for a little longer like 20mins or more of usage. then 60% or so. One day i tried to install chainfire3D i got my phone bricked, never knew it wasn't supported by jellybean so i flashed it with a stock jellybean rom 98.72.16.XT912.verizon.en.us spyder or so with wsdlite flashing program. my phone is working now. but the battery is still the same. i've tried to get information on how to go back to ics but i read that it is not possible but can result to bricking my device. Please brothers can anyone suggest to me what to do so i can enjoy a little battery life like others. I'm on Jelly bean please i need a stable rom that can keep my battery longer . can someone suggest the best jellybean rom for my device. i will appreciate it so much. i have no option than to seek your opinion mates. I need the best rom possible. give me suggestions and i can compare by my self. focus: battery life, smoothness, less bugs, good camera, and you know better.
Deep Sleep Battery Saver is a great app from market. i use to use it and set to aggressive. Battery life sucks indeed on smart phones. Might want to see if a more powerful/better battery is an option and if not keep digging.. search all forums multiple times for battery saving tips!

There are a lot of things that battery life depends on. It depends on how you use it. Heavy usage like 3G browsing, video streaming ,long time nav etc do eat up your battery.
If you are a heavy user, it still lasts for 10-12 hrs.

you might wanna think about installing safrstrap 3.11(if you have not already) and try a cm based rom.. cm 10.1.0 RC5, PAC-man, carbon, then use dtrail1's custom KERNEL, you can overvlock/underclock as well as set your voltages which is the main reason for his KERNEL, battery life...
Have a look at this. Its quite detailed.

NO way! my phone can last up to 12hrs even at very low usage 3G/off, GSM only. i was disappointed when i my battery died when i was watching the movie After Earth 360p Resolution from my sd card. the film was almost getting to the end. my battery was at 50% when i pressed play button. Nothing much running on my phone. i uninstalled Gmail. switched off facebook and other social network apps. just watching After Earth by Wills Smith and Son
please mates i am running 98.72.16.XT912.verizon.en.us spyder on my phone which i flashed through RSD Lite using the xml file. What will happen if i flash VRZ_XT912_6.7.2-180_DHD-16_M4-31_1FF.xml using the same method. OR Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip to my phone. Mine is VERIZON but i'm using it on a GSM network in Africa (MTN). I just removed the Verizon Sim card and put GSM (MTN) simcard. And the phone is running, making calls etc just like any other gsm phone. the only error i get is " SIMCARD FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE" when i boot phone. I press ok and it disappears, Wooolaah! i'm and everything works. i realy need ICS back. I regret Jellybean. please what will happen if i flash those files.

You cannot go back to ICS. If you flash any ICS ROM, your phone simply won't boot. So downgrade is not an option.
Did you read the links from above posts.?

Yes. You have to flash JB ROM.
