Pure mac rooting?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Ok. Will there ever be a way to root the AT&T Note via Mac? Keep in mind, I am refering to pure OSX, not running Windows underneath. If not what are the obstacles? Anyone willing to join me in donating to this cause?

Just download Odin on a friends PC and root
shouldnt take no more than 10 mins
then im prety sure you can just DL roms on your mac and transfer them and
flash away

I finally gave up waiting for a OSX rooting process. Finally just went the bootcamp route.

I haven't tried this but would "DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit" work on the Note.

Rooting Tbolt - Win XP, Win7 or Ubuntu 11.10?

So I just picked up a new Tbolt, sealed in the box. Has not been activated yet.
I am going to root it and have rooted many Dinc, Evos etc with Unrevoked, but I have never been able to obtain root on windows and always have used Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)
Should I stick with Ubuntu (now on 11.10 but can revert as its a spare computer) or is it better to use the current revolutionary with Windows?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

I am definitely using Revolutionary, but they offer it for Windows and Linux, that what I am up in the air about... which did you use? and what version of Windows or Linux did you use?
Also, I see you are running Infected... looks pretty sick and has good feedback...is that the first ROM you would suggest flashing?
Thanks
Worked fine on windows 7 64-bit for me.

Cool. I will give it s try on my win 7 laptop then....
Thanks for feedback

Worked on both win 7 64bit and Vista 64bit.

Ok, I will give Win 7 64 bit a try.
One more question:
Does it matter if I root before I activate the phone?
I have rooted in past before activation, but this is my first 4g LTE phone, so not sure with the SIM card and all that.
Thanks
Revolutionary works fine on Vista as well

I've used Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 and revolutionary worked well on both. I would activate the phone before you root. No real reason, its just my opinion.
Damn... I was gonna root before but I will wait. It's a Christmas present to myself so I was planning in opening up a rooted phone...but I guess ill have have all Xmas day to do that after the kids pass out from excitement
Hehe
Thanks for advice...very much appreciated

Just got the bolt from best buy mobile. I traded my Dinc2 for this. I only paid $2 for it with trade in. They updated the phone to android 2.3.4 , can I still root it with revo tool even though it has been updated.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Yes... On of the mods on the irc revolutionary Chanel verified that for me today. He said it will work on any Android version, but hboot needs to be 1.04 or 1.05

I rooted my wife's phone via Revolutionary on Gentoo (~amd64) a couple weeks ago. She was already at the latest OTA release. For the most part it worked fine. I did have to manually download and install ClockworkMod (somethng was hardcoded that broke on Gentoo). Overall it was a painless process.

Any update for how to root on Mac?

Same as topic. Haven't heard about any updates from Heimdall, are there any other solutions for rooting at this point?
Bump

i would love to know this too. spent two hrs on my moms pos 10 " gateway laptop to get nowhere. thought i was about to get root finally but apparently the odin program was too large for my screen and there was no way to scroll down to select the start option. im just so frustrated.
Pricy....but works.

Parallels works but its kinda risky
If the strain of Odin in win7 on a Mac causes the comp to lag you could get screwed

Bootcamp it :good: gogogo, thats what i did, the only reason i have a windows install wasting my space on my mac for this kind of odin stuff.

Me too. I had a hard time making VMware keep a stable connection to the phone, driver install fail. Bootcamp was much easier.
gotta wait for an update from heimdall unless you run bootcamp. I need to get a copy of windows..........lol

Need help unlocking my bootloader

Hey guys. I posted in the Jailbreak thread but didn't get any response. I need help unlocking my bootloader. Here is where I'm at:
My Windows Vista PC sees my phone and Android ADB. The Galaxy Note Toolkit sees my phone. Casual does not. It just sits at "disconnected" and won't let me do anything.
I have disabled every pierce of AV and MSE. I tried every USB port. I have rebooted both phone and PC in varying combinations.
I am a n00b to the GN2 but I'm quite experienced in modding. I am just having problems getting Casual to work.
Please help?
Did you try with another cable?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Try unplugging all your USB devices and using a different cable. When using casual I had to uninstall the Sammy mobile device drivers for it to work.

Did that. I tried 2 different Samsung data cables, still nothing. Even did a factory reset since my PC once had an error that my Android ID was missing and I can't check for software updates, thought maybe something went weird with the phone setup. Still nothing.
So I know the drivers are there, I know the data cables are good and I know the ports are working. All AV is shut down. Where is the roadblock here?
On a related note: When I tried to use the connection help on Kies, Kies told me my device wasn't supported. Could that be a part of what I'm running into?
Since VZW has to have their hands in every aspect of things they locked the use of kies. I haven't found a way to get it to work yet. Don't remember if kies air works but that wouldn't help the issue.
This is confusing, the next thing I would try is flashing stock with the .pit file and trying again. Or it could be a java issue since the CASUAL exploit is written in java, that seems more likely to me. In Adam Outlers thread for CASUAL he linked a java checker. Try that and make sure your good with java

good call.
sounds like a java issue as previously mentioned.
Same thing.
Java is latest version. My phone shows up just fine for windows.
Is there an Odin option? I'm very familiar and comfortable with Odin

What about this:
When I connect my phone to the PC, it initially shows up as an installer. I then have to go in to change it to a MTP device.
Could that be causing this somehow?
It could be. Make it a media device and retry everything. If that doesn't work then find the bay where pirates hangout and get win7 on your computer and retry it. I've only ever rooted on win 7 and win 8

make sure any anti virus or anti malware program is disabled(microsoft security essentials/windows defender)

I had this problem too. I had to unlock the hidden menu and set the phone as MTP + ADB to get CASUAL to properly recognize it.
Have you ever disabled your Internet connection and click "do it". See if it does anything.
Mine had the same issue as you.

[Q] dont want to brick my wifes phone please give me some advice

OK hears the short of it my wife has a vzw note 2 and wants it rooted....and bn the tech geek of the house hold I said challenge accepted...now that is what it has turned into a challenge... I have a gs3 and i rooted it and romed it with relative ease but I am being tested by her device.....I have tried casual and no matter how hard I try I can't make casual see her note and so looked for a alternative and found a cf auto root file....but I know there is a bootloader so I am warry for just going flash happy with that...so I need advice cuz I can't get Adam o or chainfire threads to give me any constructive help. Does anyone have all the cf auto root files and or a good way for me to get my computer to make her note 2 to recognize casual ty for helping this ol'noob out
Firestorm. Make sure you have the right usb drivers for the note 2. The rooting thread in this area is very distinct on this.

Yeah I tried Hers mine and a spare still nothing
Nightlies
I was having a problem with the Casual program working too, but now that I got some sleep and looked again; I see that my AV had one of the files in quarantine. I could not get it to let go either, so I had to turn AV off and redownload casual. Works fine now! Also, not sure what phone you said again, but there are nightlies of casual where you might try other versions of it. The link is in one of these threads where you found casual initially.

ok ill got a crappy acer I will try to see if it has enough power to try something like this
but can u elaborate what pda net is
is there a way to downgrade into vs 4.1.1 so I can do the root 66 method cuz that seems a little easier I didn't see where anyone has addressed the possibility of that
Im not that knowledgeable on the downgrade but pda net is a app that uses your phone data to give you internet on your computer the main reason is that it installs the drivers on your computer with out searching or worrying that is a bad file

OK I finally did it ty all for your help...can down to 5 trys and completely removing my av but it finally went thru and I was able to Rom it as well again ty for all your help
I thought it was probably AV blocking the files needed......lol

You can't. You could use bootcamp and do it, but since you need ODIN (and it only works on windows), your best option is to just use a windows pc.
And yeah, there are programs like heimdall for mac, but I've tried it and it fails when it tries to get the PIT file (partition map).
Ahh man this sucks
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
I have used heimdall before and it is such a pain. If you have access to a windows pc you will be better off and much easier interface, in my opinion.
