You can't. You could use bootcamp and do it, but since you need ODIN (and it only works on windows), your best option is to just use a windows pc.
And yeah, there are programs like heimdall for mac, but I've tried it and it fails when it tries to get the PIT file (partition map).
Ahh man this sucks

I have used heimdall before and it is such a pain. If you have access to a windows pc you will be better off and much easier interface, in my opinion.

I have spent the past hour or so attempting to unsuccessfully install the Samsung drivers (can't use ODIN without them). I am running Windows 7 in Virtual box on a Mac and cannot for the life of me get it to even install the drivers correctly.
I am able to detect the USB without any issues and I have attempted to install using Kies and the driver only and every time I get the driver did not install properly error.
Has anyone had any luck with this setup? Thanks in advance.

I use VMWare Fusion. No problems here.

Yeah, same here.
Well no luck with Virtual box. I just used a Windows machine at work without any issues.

Is there a way to do either of those without having a windows computer? I have a macbook and wish to experience all that my new note has to offer.
I am versed well enough in fastboot for my osx terminal, thanks to the Dell Streak I broke yesterday. Now I'd like to do fancy things with my new note (thanks Best Buy!)
Please tell me I don't have to grovel and borrow a laptop from a family member after being a mac proponent for years.
you could use bootcamp or parallels
I use boot camp and Windows 7 on my MBP for rooting and flashing.
Check out brimful, it's just like Odin except since it's open source it can be configured to work on Mac. I've also seen the mobile version of Odin. But I'm not sure to what extent you could flash, meaning you may not be able to flash anything. The mobile Odin had some constrictions

I give you - Heimdall - the open source version of Odin that works on Mac, Linux, and Windows. I feel your pain as I am a full time Linux user. This application has been my godsend.

Yo, that's legit. What do you use with it? I tried downloading the CWM files and throwing them in, but it kicks it back at me like I'm simple.

You've been using Heimdall on the i717 AT&T Note? Really? Last I heard it does not work on Snapdragon based devices, such as Skyrocket, AT&T Note, etc.

I've never heard that before. RootzWiki has heimdall files available for the skyrocket for their ICS leak.
DO NOT FLASH. FOR SKYROCKET ONLY! http://rootzwiki.com/news/_/article...or-skyrocket-leaks-weve-got-the-link-att-r579

Interesting, I'm 99% sure I read that Heimdall only works on Exynos, so Skyrocket, ATT Note, Captivate Glide, etc, are out. Interesting. Maybe they updated it in the last 6 weeks? I'll have to dig more.
I wonder why there is a separate Heimdall version of that Skyrocket ROM?
Full time linux or mac users must not be gamers. Thats why I'll never drop windows. And heimdall works for the galaxy S series too.

Where there are plenty of reasons not to drop windows, gaming on Linux or OSX is very doable. In our household we use all of them.
What restrictions does Mobile Odin have?
Yeah, I don't really play games too often. Sorry.
I found out how to do it. Step one: Borrow a windows 7 laptop. Step two: Follow the instructions for windows.
But at least now I get to bask in the ICS glory.
Ok. Will there ever be a way to root the AT&T Note via Mac? Keep in mind, I am refering to pure OSX, not running Windows underneath. If not what are the obstacles? Anyone willing to join me in donating to this cause?

Just download Odin on a friends PC and root
shouldnt take no more than 10 mins
then im prety sure you can just DL roms on your mac and transfer them and
flash away
I finally gave up waiting for a OSX rooting process. Finally just went the bootcamp route.

I haven't tried this but would "DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit" work on the Note.
Same as topic. Haven't heard about any updates from Heimdall, are there any other solutions for rooting at this point?
Bump

i would love to know this too. spent two hrs on my moms pos 10 " gateway laptop to get nowhere. thought i was about to get root finally but apparently the odin program was too large for my screen and there was no way to scroll down to select the start option. im just so frustrated.
Pricy....but works.

Parallels works but its kinda risky
If the strain of Odin in win7 on a Mac causes the comp to lag you could get screwed

Bootcamp it :good: gogogo, thats what i did, the only reason i have a windows install wasting my space on my mac for this kind of odin stuff.

Me too. I had a hard time making VMware keep a stable connection to the phone, driver install fail. Bootcamp was much easier.
gotta wait for an update from heimdall unless you run bootcamp. I need to get a copy of windows..........lol

Windows 8 preview is free. Maybe try that?
Hi I'm new to Android. I just recently AOL'ed a VZW plan. It has unlimited data, switched from AT&T.
I was given a TB by my brother, got a sim and it's now activated.
I want to be able to tether and downloaded foxfi and PDA net and they both don't support HTC devices. I want to be able to tether on our iPads when we travel.
I see that with foxfi and PDA net you can tether via Bluetooth. I'm not sure what or how this would work if we are out and about.
Is there a way to get my TB the ability to wifi tether?
I'm pretty sure sharing your androids internet with an apple device is a sin. Repent now!

You need to root the phone so that you can use wireless tether from the market. It's easier to setup than pdanet and works a lot better.

What's the easiest way to root? I'm not familiar with the process.

Not a Mac user, but here are two good starting points:
How to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220484
Easiest way to root, using trter10's one-click rooting tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703455
Once rooted you will open the phone to all sorts of performance and customization opportunities including free wifi tethering. Depending on the custom ROM you choose to go with, wifi tethering may come included in the ROM (eg. it does in Thundershed). If not, there are a few good ones in the Play Store, eg Wifi Tether, Barnacle, and Open Garden. All will work, and all are free. I had most success and best performance with Wifi Tether, but YMMV as every device seems to work a little differently.
Good luck!

Well you could always dual boot Linux and use it to run the tool.

Having a mac and rooting the Thunderbolt is a pain in the ass. I did it the hard way and that was to either have bootcamp installed with a windows partition. Or run Parrallel's virtual machine with a windows partition and run the all-in-one-tool. Running the All in one tool is the easiest way to root your phone setting up your system to run the tool is the pain in the ass part.
***Yeah, I basically effed up my comment... so its gone!***

I was given this TB. I just re booted it and this is what I have on the screen...
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
Is this device rooted?
It's asking me for options?
Not sure what's going on here. Maybe was given a rooted TB?

If it has CWM then chances are it either was, or still is rooted. Can you reboot into the OS on the phone, or can you only get to CWM? If you can get into the OS normally, check to see if Superuser is installed.
