[Q] Microsoft Exchange support for Pattern Locking - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

god, i dont think ICS supports it like it was for ginger bread. Exchange security norms permitting only PIN or passcode lock. its a pain in the ass. in iPhone u have to do is enter 4 digit pin and it accepts. in android its 4 digit pin plus the "ok" button. i know there are thrid party apps like touchdown which can help us configure exchange accounts without device lock. i prefer stock email client.
any workaround/fix for this issue.

anyone?

Exchange can be configured to not require a PIN as well as several other things.
Go to the ActiveSync Policy settings in the Client Access settings in the Exchange Organization. Select the Policy that is being applied to your device and change it there.
This all pre-supposes that you have Organizational Admin rights to your Exchange environment, of course.

[Q] Exchange Security Policy updated... not propogated

Hi All,
So I added my Exchange account provided by 1&1 to my phone, of course it enforced the security policies on the phone as expected.
I called my provider and asked them to de-activate the pin-code requirement for my user, which they did. However the update did not automaticly propogate to my device, its still forcing a pin code.
If I remove Exchange Security Policies from the Device Administrators, how do I get it back or is the only way to remove the entire account and re-add from scratch?
(I'm worried about loosing data)
If this really is the only option, what does it do with linked contacts from FB, Google and Skype? Please tell me it won't remove all those contacts too?
Does anyone have another option for updating exchange security options without removing anything?
(PS did confirm that the provider updated the setting correctly using my old HD2 test phone running Android 2.3 - that phone isn't forced to use pin code any more.)
Thanks for assistance!

Deleting and registering exchange will not delete any other contacts, and it will automatically relink all the contacts after you set up your exchange account. Why do you worry about losing exchange data? They will all be resynced.
Also, if that doesn't work, search for "exchange" in the app forum. There is a patched apk that will bypass the forced security regardless of the admin permission.

[Q] exchange problem

i have a problem connecting my tab to the company server, i can't use the e-mail through the exchange, i put the same parameters like my HTC mobile but nothing work, it always said the server need to change my security setting and nothing happened after that.... any help
as an exchange admin, i know there could be a ton to this. they could limit it to client certs, could be limits on your number of devices activated,or just wrong settings or ssl certs. its a loaded question unfortunately.
it was from the application equipped with the tab
the problem solved by installing the Touchdown HD for Tab... it is working fine now and I can get my mails, contacts and calender... It is so obvious, the problem coming from the exchange application coming with the Tab and i hope Samsung can come over this problem soon...
Free app on amazon appstore today is an email client (enhanced email) that allows exchange... just a few hours left, though...

Android Phone safety against theft/snatch/loss

Hello,
I am sure there are numerous applications for GPS tracking and remote controlling/wiping all the data and settings pattern/numeric access codes for your mobiles.
Problem is that executing these safety measures are somehow dependent on certain other factors and can have successful or unsuccessful consequences.
I am thinking of anything more basic and hassle free way of ensuring that even in worst condition I can have certain peace of mind that my critical gmail account data would not be accessed for unauthorized use. For example when it was unlocked for use and meanwhile it was lost or snatched how can I be sure that my google account information specifically gmail/maps are safe. I know I can change the password by reaching to a nearby PC, but that is not always a possibility.
I have got my Samsung Galaxy S2 for more than a month and just figuring out a safe way before putting it in active use.
An idea which I am thinking of is to have another Gmail account specifically for use with Android Phone, and import/export the actual "Contacts" only to this new email account. Since contacts are the most frequently used item, they would be in sync with the new email account, any delta changes would have to be replicated to your original gmail account as well.
I dont use Picasa, so it is of no importance to me to sync the pictures with picasa account.
For access to my actual gmail and other emails (like work email) I can use an add on email android applications like K9-Mail to configure the gmail as IMAP. To get access to this email program I can install any application which can password protect the access to applications and can reactivate the password after any time of inactivity. I dont know whether in such case would I get popup in the notification bar for new emails or not.
The only two most used applications now left are
- Maps and Latitude
- Google Plus
Now both of them need to be used with my actual gmail account, since all contacts and connection are related to my actual identity on google.
So i need to know that is it possible to use one gmail (fake/secondary) account on android phone just for syncing contacts and use another actual (primary/original) account for logging in the official google maps and google plus applications. I know even in this case the password needs to be changed in case of a mishap, however I can be a bit satisfied that all critical data in the email storage is safe.
I just need your opinions and suggestion on the mentioned procedure, or is there any other good and recommended practice for getting multiple accounts configured on Android Phone and selectively use the google accounts for different applications.
Thanks for your inputs.
Hmm...seems like everyone is so sure of the safety of their handset, no one even gives a s*** to think about the worst-case scenario of losing a device.
Cheers...hope everyone retains the droid for life..

Office365 Email Account

Have any Office365 users successfully added their email account to the phone? I am able to add the account but it continually prompts me to update the security settings. It does this even after activating email as a device administrator. When I click the okay button in the security popup message nothing happens and the message reappears within seconds.
I have no problems adding non-Office365 ActiveSync accounts and I also have no issues adding my Office365 account to any of my other android devices. It appears that something between Samsung's email client and Office365 don't mesh. I've followed this guide to no avail. I've also deleted and recreated the default ActiveSync Device Policy on my O365 account with no luck.
This sucks because my job requires me to sync multiple email accounts, most hosted on O365. This rules out using Touchdown (which works fine with O365). Ugh! Hate to have to return this phone because of this.
FWIW, there is also a post over at O365 forums on the topic:

Yes.
I use enhanced email and have it configured just fine.
Give it your credentials for autosync. It will likely fail. Once it does, edit username to \[email protected]
You may have to change the servers as well. I have to use m.outlook.com rather than that of my company's. Works like a charm.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Enhanced Email's interface. I prefer the native one. But thanks for the suggestion.
I do have it currently working with no issue for the last few hours. You can read the O365 thread for what was done. No idea why it worked but it did for me.

[Q] Google Apps Device Policy?

Hi everyone,
I'm curious if anyone here has had any success or issues with the Google Apps Device Policy app. Has anyone had trouble with getting the Device Policy activated (for a protected corporate Google Account, for instance) on any custom ROMs? If so, which?
I flashed Th3Bill's CM10 the other day, and we had hiccups trying to get Device Policy to approve my work's Google Account. I wasn't sure if the trouble was on our IT department's side, and our IT department isn't the most user-friendly with trial and error to see if the issue was on the ROM's side or on theirs...
Not sure if this helps but I had no issues getting two university Google accounts to sync.
I had to set up a seperate password for one place. They use a single signon method where the university is the middleman and there was no direct way to use your single signon password for just the Google account. Just added a seperate password for just the Google portion and all is well.

Yeah, this is a different configuration - in essence, my IT department requires the ability to remote wipe that specific Google account from all of its devices, so it uses this app as a way of gaining permissions to that account. In essence, I can add the Google account to my phone, but no data will load (it will read "sync error") until the Device Policy App is approved.
Ahh ok. Like a goodlink account. Didn't know Google supported such a thing.
