[Q] Can I flash a firm with different base band? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My base band version is I9300XXLE8. I bought the phone in Spain.
Can I flash firmwares of other countries or I must stick to this base band?
I would like to flash another ROM to remove all the bloatware from Samsung, but other ROM's are based, for example, on STOCK I9300XXALEF 4.0.4, or XXALED, which are not the same base band as mine.
Is it safe to flash this firmwares as long as they're built for the SGS3?
Sorry for this noobish question, I've searched the forums and I haven't found anything.
Thanks.

A good rule of thumb would be if its not been tested on your band then don't try it unless you don't mind testing it for the dev.

Having owned both S1, S2 and now S3 I would say you'd have no issues flashing any I9300 rom so long as you have an I9300.
I have an I9300T and can flash any I9300 firmware but need to flash a T modem (baseband) after that to get 3g reception.

That's just what I was going to post. If I take a nandroid backup before flashing and something goes wrong, I can always go back to the previous rom.
Thanks!

[Q] ICS on I9100 in the US

Hello everyone
I bought the SGS2 I9100 (international version) off contract. The phone originally came with baseband version I9100XXKF3 and the language set to "English - U.K.". I am currently using an old Cognition build with baseband I9100XXKH3.
My question is, which ICS ROM should I install on my phone? I'm referring to stock or CFRoot roms only, I just don't want to install the wrong baseband rom on my phone. Also, I am on AT&T in the US and need to make sure that my phone and data services work after flashing.
Thanks for any help!

If the baseband you have works save it and pop it in your ICS if the baseband in that is not up to scratch .
jje
What do you mean by that? If I flash an ics Rom, doesn't that set the baseband? I'm just trying to figure out which ics release I should use
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Basebands /modems are interchangeable for many locations .
Rom you are using now has a baseband if that works well note the version and you can flash one from the flashable modems thread if the ICS turns out to not have a suitable modem for your location .

Ok, so if I get a modem from there I can flash any of the ics builds? Do they differ only in their baseband/modem?

[Q] Newbie --India --Three Network mobile -- Basic Questions

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

Hi KJplasma &atifsh
Thank you for the details.
can i install the below listed indian stock firmware using odin
PDA :I9100XWKE8 CSC:I9100ODDKE2
or do i need to install the firmware from UK
PDA :I9100XXKF2 CSC:MULTIOXAKF2
do i need to change the csc if i install the UK version?
Thanks
forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.
ad dont forget to wipe using the dialpad code *2767*3855#. [will wipe all data stored]

My friend dont go for LPJ that is unofficial beta release,
go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.
thank You.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.
I flashed the modem of my region xxki4 which is 2.3.5 jpkj2 and had no issues of heat in ics.

[Q] S II i9100T

Hey, I have an i9100T and was wanting to know the difference between the i9100T and the i9100... Also whether or not I can flash CM9
Thanks
The difference between 9100 and 9100T is Not in the hardware but in the software. The T modem or Baseband as it's called is more tuned to the 850MHz band than others due to different SAR levels, so is very safe to flash CM9 as i've been doing it for months without any problem but make sure to use a T modem such as I9100TDOLP4.

Well.. I'm just going to flash a complete RC package from the Cyanogen website, I assume I'll need CWM for it too, I'm just curious seeing as this is a Telecom NZ i9100GT
So in this case why dont you flash CM9 Resurrection Edition with Odin from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419102 and that is gonna give access to CWM so you can flash RC package

French s3 to Aussie firmware?

Hi just got my first android and am straight off iphone. I bought an imported French S3 and would like to restore it to Australian Telstra (carrier) default.
I found this samsung-updates(.)com/device/?id=GT-I9300T but i don't know the authenticity of it or how on earth to restore it so PLEASE HELP. Also, once restored to aussie default i won't know the difference will I? I reallllly am lost with all this french crap
Cheers and sorry if i posted something already answered, last time on this site was with my old account and a htc polaris windows mobile 5
Also note that the image inside the zip is labelled I9300TDUALF2_I9300TTELALF2_I9300TDULF2_HOME.tar.md5 does that sound about right?
You cant flash i9300T firmware on the international i9300.
I have tried to flash the stock Telstra ROM and it will constantly FC with heaps of errors. Although you can flash the Telstra modem and CSC.
Your best bet is to flash the BLFB stock ROM for the very latest S3 ROM.
Another alternative is to flash the stock XSA ROM (which is unbranded for Australia) but it is NOT as up to date as BLFB

Don't know what FC means nor what the BLFB is but i flashed it to telstra and it worked. Had some french crap still on it but after restoring to factory default it now works 100%
FC means force close and BLFB is the latest UK firmware.
I tried to flash Telstra's ROM on my i9300 and it wouldnt boot correctly.
Weird that you have it working because everyone says its unflashable to a stock i9300.
Since you still have french language, im guessing you have not flashed the CSC file.

Sorry, i worded that poorly. The french language was off, everything was except some french radio stations on the home screen. After a factory restore it all went back to how a telstra S3 would be out of the box. Strangely i do things that i shouldn't be able to like register the phone with samsung AU :S I did have an issue though, i had to corrupt the firmware the first time then re-install the stock telstra before it finished the install (initally froze so i corrupted it)

I need help with 2 Australian Galaxy S3

Hi. I have 2 australian galaxy s3. First one is on 4.1.2 TDUELL2 and the second one is on 4.0.4 TDUBLH1. I want to root both of them. The first one after getting updated to 4.1.2 wifi stopped working but i found a fix installing the wifi folder from 4.1.1 version. To that I need root though. So any help on how am I gonna root them both? Cause I couldn't sort it out my self.

What model number are the phones I9300 / I9305?
they are i9300t
I managed to root both of them. I know have a major problem. 1 of them had a problem with wifi. It couldnt connect. I read about a solution by copying the wifi folder from version 4.1.1. Tried that. It worked for once but after reboot it stopped. And now I can't even turn on the wifi. It gets stuck on Turning on... Do i have to reflash the rom again and if so how will i do that? It was stock rom on stock kernel. Only rooted. gt i9300t moder and build DUELL2.
Also can i flash a rom with different build over that? For example XXEMC2 that i have on my Greek galaxy s3?
I9300T rooting is the same as I9300 rooting, follow the guides of CF-Root 6.4 or CF-Autoroot. (I got a T model myself)
You can flash any I9300 rom also on the T model, therefore root is not 100% necessary. Full wipes are recommended for flashing different versions though.

For wifi, try a stock ROM (flash it new incl. wipes etc.), or try a different kernel, whereas the stock kernel should always work.

you can find (unrooted) stock roms for instance on sammobile.com or (rooted) stock roms here on XDA in the General section.
Easiest way to flash them is via Mobile Odin (gives you the option to keep root) or Odin (you will loose root but you can flash CF afterwards manually).
And yes you can flash any build that is made for the I9300/I9300T.
The only difference between both models is the frequency of the baseband (the T model is more optimized for 850mhz) whereas you even can use modems of the I9300 on the I9300T.

There is a difference between the ROM's firmware (basically your OS, e.g. XXEMC2) and the modem (basically the part which gives you the connection to the next mobile tower and is managing the frequencies, e.g. DUELL2).
It does not matter that much what ROM firmware you use as they are nearly identical in each country (here and there dif. apps due to providers) but more that you use a modem that delivers in the country you are in. Hence, I would first try the modems of your region (you can find a list of all modems in the General section's modem collection).
Regarding the risk of bricking: there is always a risk, no one can guarantee you anything , whereas if you follow the guides you should be fine.

Ok. So the CSC numbers that are different on lets say the DUELL2 and the XXEMC2 are not something to bother me right? I just download the XXEMC2 rom and flash it on the DUELL2 S3 and then I just will root it. right? Will the phone become i9300 after that procedure? or stay i9300t? So I know which file i should use to root it.
Soz for too many questions but the phone is not mine and I need to be sure for the procedure.

The firmware code (XXEMC2) should not be of concern.
The modem code (DUELL2) should be of concern IF you experience bad performance in the region you are. If so, flash a different modem and try it.
The phone will be an I9300T whereas in the menus it might tell you I9300, anyway there is no difference in the files to use.
For rooting, follow the guide, you can use CF-Root 6.4 (if you want a custom recovery) or CF-Autoroot (if you want to use stock recovery).

Ok i downloaded the rom from sammobile and the file name is this I9300TDUDLK1_I9300ZZZLK1_VAU.zip but i get an error message that says cannot open. file unknown or damaged :/ Why is that? Is this file meant to be named as md5?

To flash a rom via odin you need the md5 file, correct. Hence unzip or if you cannot maybe the download is corrupt?

Yes, definitely backup your efs! Search for it and you will find tons of guides.
