Are any of you using this app successfully? I'm thinking this awesome app may be what's causing my phone to lock up and randomly reboot.
I've been using it for a couple months but I'm no power user of the app. I get maybe 1 e-mail a day that I either move to a folder or delete.
edit: I'm using Jokers rev 2/test3 rom
I use the app and so does my wife. We are for sure power users averaging 75-200 emails a day across 2-4 accounts. I couldn't handle how the built in app didn't visually differentiate visually what account each email is from (for us it makes a huge difference).
That said my phone does reboot more often than I like. I don't have lockups but I did have instances where I couldn't type or make calls without a reboot, but my wife never has this. I tracked it down to SwiftKey X Keyboard. I have since moved to another keyboard (Flex T9, and ICS Keyboard) and I have eliminated the typing issues.

It's not the app, once again...you have a broken photon lol =/. Good news is, you arent missing much with enhanced email, gmail app gets emails 5-10 minutes faster than enhanced email. I've tried it on two phones, and a tab, all same results. It's a nice idea to have all accounts merged, but with this app, that's all it is, an idea.

I don't think all three replacement phones are broken with the same exact issues. My phone has now been running for four days w/ no issues (the longest yet) after doing a factory reset and installing no apps. This leads me to believe my problems are software related. Now, I'm trying to smoke out the problematic app(s).
Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing, as my Enhanced E-Mail seems to be quite laggy sometimes, and it's almost always the first thing to show the annoying keyboard lock-up, no-dialing issue. However, I use it ALL the time so that may just be an obvious consequence ... at any rate, I'd hate to take it off the phone unless we knew for sure!

I want to agree with you but I've never had a random restart or lockup or any type of lag.
Yes I do and yes my phone reboots randomly as well as my keyboard becoming non responsive.
I've removed it as of yesterday.

I'm glad I am not the only one who gets the keyboard lock-up, no-dialing, random reboot issue. Since I stopped using EE, I have not experienced any of these issues in over a week. In a few more days, I am going to reinstall it to see if the problems return. If they do, then EE is officially the problem in my book! The app is so awesome that I hope it is a different app causing the problems. For me, the other problem app could have been Smart Keyboard Pro. I've since switched to the A.I.Type keyboard which I like better. If no problems return after I reinstall EE then the problems would have been caused by Smart Keyboard Pro on my phone.
A new version of EE (v.1.31.2) was released today! I am going to try it and see if the random reboots return. Since uninstalling EE a few weeks ago, my phone has been running FLAWLESSLY with no reboots! Let's hope that continues after installation. (crossing fingers)
Anyone currently using EE successfully with zero random reboots?
I've been using Kaiten mail for a week, it's perfect in my eyes. Give it a try.

Unfortunately K-9 Mail has weak support for exchange, I connect to two different servers (or it did a few years ago, it still has only WebDAV support) and neither worked with K-9.
On a different note, do you have any reboots with Kaiten?

I used to use Kaiten and K-9. Here are the *main* problems I had with them:
Can't change font color
Can't change font type
Let's say I have 100 emails in my inbox, I scroll down to see email #59, I switch to different app for something, when I return to K-9/Kaiten, the app reloads all of my emails; thus LOSING MY PLACE in the message list. Completely unacceptable!!!
Have these issues been addressed in the latest versions?
I've been interested in using a 3rd party email app (EE, kaiten, k9, maildroid, etc) for multiple Gmail accounts. My only question is if the 3rd party app gets push email just like the stock Gmail app.
honestly, im happy with stock e-mail as I don't type full page novels, but honestly, I have hears nothing but negative on EE!

Great! Please let us know if your phone starts experiencing random reboots after installing EE if you don't already experience them.
I haven't had any random reboots but my first gripe about EE is no threaded emails. Am I not seeing a setting in EE for threaded emails?
What other 3rd party email apps have you guys used that have threaded emails?
Hi,
Please tell me how to get rid of the god-awful slow texting app that comes with this phone, and replace it with the stock android texting app.
Thanks!
Are you referring to the AT&T messages app? 'Cause the SMS app that comes stock works fine for me :/
Stock messages app works fine for me. If you have root you may be able to find differnt message apps, but my first suggestion is to give handcent a try as it is my go to sms app for when I'm having issues with cusom ROMs being buggy with mms. Its got a threaded look to it, much like iphone.

I far prefer GO SMS Pro, love the interface and features, but with all the third-party SMS apps I have an issue of double and triple texts being sent to people. I agree the Samsung SMS app is painfully slow. I hate using it, but it's my only choice because it doesn't send out duplicate texts. :/

Thats very odd, I've never got complaint of this. Have you googled the issue to see if there is a known solution or work around? As common as these apps are you can't possibly be the only one misfortunate enough to experience this. I have had issues in the past getting numerous notifications despite turning native notifications off for SMS, but thats an entirely different issue.
How do i replace the Samsung message app with the vanilla android one? The Samsung one is slow and is a failed attempt at copying iphone. The keyboard even blocks the send button!

Mostly I see people on ICS complaining about this issue, but there are several people on GB complaining about it as well, for both GO SMS and Handcent and a few others on Google Play.
I had the duplicate notification issue with Handcent - even though I had disabled notifications for the stock app AND frozen it. Didn't have that problem with GO SMS. Had an odd problem when I tried Chomp SMS, where all incoming messages were anonymous and upon trying to view them, the message couldn't be found. That even happened in the stock app, so long as I had Chomp installed. Uninstalling fixed that issue immediately.
But so far as I can tell, some people just have the problem, and most don't. I have yet to see a reply from any of the devs about the issue. I've tried completely resetting the phone to factory spec but I still got the duplicate message issue.
I really, REALLY want to use GO SMS. Although something else I noticed is that some people's messages were being sent to the wrong contacts... Perhaps I'll try the vanilla Android apk...
How do you try the vanilla android apk?

Thanks but I don't really want a third party version with ads. I don't get it...isn't there a plain messaging app that comes with android (like what was on the nexus one), or is it proprietary to every device? It seems like this shouldn't be such a difficult thing to install instead of the crappy samsung one. Am I missing something?
i'm surprised. the sms app is not bad i'm the note. I've seen worse. (though i am using the rogers version)
I'm coming from a rooted Inspire 4G (cyanogen) and I've noticed that the texting on the Samsung Messaging app is a bit sluggish. And some keys don't respond to my fast fingers.. Yet the app itself runs very fast (ie open app, open threads, go back, etc).
One thing I did was uninstall Swype through Titanium and I think I've noticed a difference in the keyboard speed. It may just be my imagination though

Other than the ones you've mentioned, Chomp is decent. It's not the prettiest, but it's pretty quick and functional.

Better handling of large message counts, pop-up reply/compose windows, more customization features, etc. The pop-up windows are the biggest things for me...you can send, receive, and reply to messages without leaving the app you're in.

Oh, I like that... which one do you use?
I use gosms. I absolutely love it. It's way better than handcent. It has everything handcent does (emoji, pop ups, customization) and more like:
A very clean ui
Option for different running modes(i use lite mode. It has no addons and runs fast)
Emoji. I can't stress it enough. It has better encoding. On handcent my iphone friends had problems viewing it but on gosms it works great.
Private box. A locked in box where you can receive messages without people seeing them. I have all the conversations I have with girls in there.
Group chat. No need to download 15 addons or pay like handcent. All you have to do is go to send settings and turn on "mms group chat". Works flawlessly.
All around gosms is so much better. Don't bother with handcent or chomp.
Used to use Handcent then switched to GoSMS. Been using GoSMS for quite a while now.
seems like i might be sticking with GO. I don't dis-like it, but it seems even the "lite" mode is becoming bloated. I like the stock htc app except when downloading group messages or attachments it takes forever, unlike GO which would show up immediately.
Be weary of GO products. I noticed a while ago (when I stopped using them) that they seem to use a lot of data ... I wonder what they could be doing... And what data they gather... Anyway just sayin
I stick with stock aosp on cm9. I'm normally a go sms fan for all it's features but I hate how it's always running while aosp isn't. I personally think go devs implemented unnecessary services into it.

Yea, I just use the stock messaging app. I also use SMS Popup to get the popup window with the quick reply, delete, etc. And if you really want emoji there are ways to get emoji in android with special font files. I dont care about them so its no big deal.
I'd rather have an SMS app that's not running nonstop since SMS apps with emojis have excessive services and such running. waste of battery when you aren't using it. even if go SMS is configured to not run persistently there's still unwanted crap running

Well you obvious don't know what your talking about because the reason why mine runs nonstop is to receive messages. If you uninstall stock message(which btw runs all the time ) you need to make sure gosms is the one receiving messages. Google Voice is an amazing service. I had the GNex on Verizon, and switched to T-Mo with the Nexus 4. When switching, I ported my number to Google Voice, since I loved all the functionality of the service. What I didn't factor in was how atrocious the Google Voice app for Android is. It's super slow, freezes commonly, and ugly. It's hardly usable for sending and receiving SMS messages, and I text a lot, so that's important. I tried the GV Integration app (seen here), and it is nothing but buggy, making my phone unstable and not displaying notifications.
Does anybody have functional alternatives to the Google Voice app? Remember, Google Voice has my phone number now, and I do have to use the service.
Can't believe you find voice that buggy. I use it almost exclusively for any text I ever send. Have no problem with lag at all unless I am on a less than consistent network. Runs smooth for me every time I ever open it. Can't ever recall a crash. It isn't the prettiest interface granted, but for functionality I don't know of any better. I know all the isheep I know use that whats app. I believe you can get that on our platform. Then you will be just like all the other iclones.

I wish I could understand what you were saying, but I truly can't. I don't have any crashing, just lagginess using the official Google Voice app, compared to the normal messaging app. Your last two sentences though...I'm lost.
I agree, Theowb4. I wish there were a good way to integrate GV with the native JB messaging app or that GV would polish their app a little more. It's alright (and not having used it a lot, I haven't really noticed it being too laggy), but I think the JB app is more functional and better looking.

Agreed. It works better and looks nicer. It comes with a popup reply box and fixes one of my biggest problems with Google Voice by combining all the threads, so you have one thread for each contact. It also grabs all text history, which many apps can't seem to do (read somewhere that it's because Voice doesn't have an API).

I solely use Google Voice and have done so for 3 years now. I have issues with it daily freezing hanging up crashing. I have used it on every phone I've had on 3 different carriers and consistently have the same issue with the app. My number is a Google voice number and I'd really hate to lose that. I've been fed up with the app for at least a year. However, I love the concept and don't really want to change my number.
Another thing I do not understand is why there is Google Voice and Hangouts. Why two separate apps for basically the same service? Even more strange to me is how come there is no GV/Hangouts integration? My phone has an actual number tied to it from Verizon and that number and the default messaging app DOES integrate with Hangouts, but not Google's own SMS/Voice app?
I am a number 1 Google fanboy, they have really, completely dropped the ball with Google Voice.

Weird. I've never had any issues with Google Voice freezing or not working right on any of my phones (I go through a lot) on any update or rom (I am a serial flasher - typically 2-5 roms per week - or when I switched carriers. *shrug* Just one of those things I guess. I don't understand it honestly. In 4 years I've had the Evo 4g, S3, S4, Note 3 and between those phones I've had Sprint, US Cellular and Verizon. The common problem is with the Google Voice app. Whether trying to open the app or go back to the main "text" screen from an opened message or when trying to open a message the app will freeze and most times the screen goes black for up to 2 minutes before it finally craps out and asked me to "Send an error report or close" the app. I could use it for 2, 3, 4 days etc...without problem then for no reason when I do any of those things I have the problem...to this day!

I find the stock messaging app to be abysmal to say the least. Ridiculously corny background wall papers, an input box that unnecessarily consumes a large majority of the screen, and a change in orientation defaults you back to the beginning of your thread.
Is there anything else available? I dabbled with GoSMS temporarily, but uninstalled it when I started noticing odd behavior to accompany large amounts of spam. I also tried the 4.4 Hangouts and enabled the SMS functionality. Loved it, but experienced issues receiving messages (both SMS and Hangouts) and was constantly clearing cache to resolve. Perhaps installing the stock JB messenger? But in doing so I would like to disable to stock messenger since with GoSMS I would receive double notifications from MMS.
Thoughts?
Textra us the best.
I hate the stock message too, very cartoony. But I've still kept it as default because of the non blocking popup which comes in top corner. All other apps which have the popup features, makes them come on the screen and you can continue till you interact with them.

8sms from the Play Store is a direct port of the CM10 messaging software. Free too.

I hate the stock message too, very cartoony. But I've still kept it as default because of the non blocking popup which comes in top corner. All other apps which have the popup features, makes them come on the screen and you can continue till you interact with them.

There are things I really don't like about the look of the stock messaging app, but I really love the unobtrusive popup in the corner when you receive a message. If I were just able to customize it more, it would be a total winner. I would prefer a black theme and the ability to totally change the bubble settings rather than choose from 5 presets that all look terrible.
Not to give big red too much credit, but they make a pretty decent messenger app...

Very clean and very customizable, though it lags a bit here and there on my DNA. Probably better on the G2, but still my favorite!
You do realize today you can change the background to any picture including a different one for each contact. You can also change the text bubbles.

Yes. Of course, but also, the text bubbles are very limited on the D800. Not sure if the Verizon one has more customization, but the AT&T one has maybe 8 presets. Of course you can change the background on each one, but it still doesn't solve the popup being white and the bubbles being very limited in customization.
When you look at your people in the stock messaging app you can't change that to dark which is my only issue with it for the most part. I just wish all apps had a inverted option. Better on your eyes and battery life.

I agree but cannot move on due to the quick reply functionality.

You may want to try the 4.4 apk of hangouts. That is the new messaging app for Aosp. It seems to work well and you do not need to be rooted.
