Hi
Long time stalker, first time poster here
This is for my SE LW
I installed ICS and have my bootloader unlocked and superuser installed (root function). I have managed to uninstall some system softwares i.e. facebook etc..
Anyway, I was looking to create a backup and I can't seem to jump into CWM (recovery). I turned off the power and initially kept holding the vol down button then changed to tapping the volume down in a zealous manner but it's not working.
I keep getting sent to 'safe mode' ? What is this about?
Is there any other way I can boot into recovery mode? Also when i try and make a back up when my phone is awake, it just reboots and nothing happens
What am i doing wrong... ??
Jay
install this.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler use it and
restart and tap volume UP when booting.
Hi
I installed the addon. It said my phone is rooted. I tried tapping it at the start and then tried to the auto-Magic Nandriod (nandriod backup) but it doesn't work =(
I'm not sure what im doing wrong. In .62 GB version I was able to get into recovery mode easily but for some strange reason ICS isn't letting me...
is it says it is CWM recovery installed also? hm, maybe this app on market is for GB only, try changing the kernel that have root & cwm. try with this kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705255
Hi
Thanks, I flashed the kernal you told me to post and it worked = )
I wonder why the Kernal I tried didn't work? _ tried the Extended Stock Kernal that was posted by expeacer.
Ok, so I want to begin myself for bbooff ICE HYBROM V1 ROM....
so can i use the stock i flashed (the one you posted) with bbooff ICE HYBROM V1 ROM?

I wanted to change the kernel from my P500 to solve the lag problem and get better overall performance.
I rooted the phone using gingerbreak 1.20
after that i installed from the market Rom manager restarted the phone, and i backup the phone from there.
After that I got stuck with my kernel replacement and I gave up and I wanted to reset the phone to default state. I didn't do anything to my phone.
I unrooted the phone and did the factory data reset.
Now when I reboot the phone and press power+volume down+home I still get the Clockworkmod Recovery boot menu. In an untouched P500 what do you get when pressing that combination? Is there any way to make my phone 100% factory state ?
sorry for my bad english
u should even delete the recovery.....(TO get rid of it)
the recovery is on the sd card, right? i formated the sd card... so there is nothing related to rom manager...
u must try flashing the default rom from the devlopment forum.(KDZ Updater)
blah
if i wait for gingerbread update will the update solve this?
The Recovery is not on the sdcard.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197
and download the file "Original_Recovery_thunderg.zip" (or something to that effect) and flash it through cwm. This will restore the recovery as it was originally.
The zip is unsigned so you will have to toggle signature verification in cwm recovery.
@mihir he doen't want to get his recovery back(in other word he wants to remove it).
@soberspine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944881 check dis thread and install the original rom...
@devil the original recovery zip in the link will restore the condition of the recovery to factory condition, i.e remove it.
this android reminds me of installing windows 95
the new unpdate to gingerbread will come out next month, so the update to 2.3 will get rid of that boot menu and other things that where changed when I installed Rom manager? in other words will the phone go to factory state before rooting/unrooting and stuff.
Yeah most probably the recovery will be cleared if and when you update to gb. But if you want to clear it now use the zip, it works.
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
I don't think you'll be able to update to GB from a custom ROM or rooted phone. Even if the option comes up, it is recommended to go back to stock state (without recovery and root) or else it might cause problems.
i didn't installed any custom rom. the only thing I did was to root my phone using gingerbreak and then installed rom manager.
the only thing that changed to my phone is that now it has that boot menu clockworkmod.
now i unrooted my phone.
So it is not safe to make official update even if the only change is that i have on my phone clockworkmode?
Step by step picture guide to completely restore to open-box state using KDZ updater
did this for thousands of times and if you are doubted in any steps feel free to ask me
btw for your question, an un-touched optimus one pressing the recovery combination will result in
a stable image of an android jumped out of a white-rectangular box
a bar at the bottom loading
but that's it, nothing more no matter how long you wait
Also for your updating question:
LG WONT recognize your phone with their official updating tool only when you are ROOTED (so of course when you perform any other steps after rooting, it wont either... e.g. installing custom recovery, flash roms etc)
BUT if you go back to the original thing with KDZ, LG will update anything for you -tested by myself!
thank you for all the clarifications and the tutorial.
I will wait now for the new android 2.3 release and ill do the whole thing then.
It is possible after rooting and installing clockworkmod the phone to work slower?
It feels like the phone is responding slower or maybe is just me imagining things .
hehe. nothing like that.

Sorry for posting here but this is where I was instructed to post. So I just dl ics v8 last night, which is AWESOME by the way!! Thx for all the hard workers that put this rom together. Im coming from bionix by the way and dont know too much about ICS. So I odined a custom gb bl as instructed and that went fine, I got the pass. I then flashed v8 and let it sit over night and so far so good. I do have a few questions/concerns though for anyone who can help.
1. I did have to mute/unmute during a ph call so it didnt sound like I was in a can...
2. Which root apps can I use with this rom...? ie setcpu, rom manager...? I tried creating a recovery with rom manager and I got a message that "theres no official clockworkmod recovery yet and have I installed a clockworkmod based recovery yet...?" Is this supposed to happen..?? Basically just wondering if I did something wrong along the way...
I think thats it so far, otherwise havent tried gps yet so Im crossing my fingers. Thx again.

All root apps work. The rom/kernel already has recovery, no need for Rom Manager. You can get to it via the power menu, or the finger boot by now pressing VOL DOWN+POWER. Also VOL UP+POWER will boot in download mode.

ok ROM Manager has Never had Official support for the Samsung Vibrant. If you install Rom Manager the only thing you should be doing with it is "fixing Permissions" other then that you should be rebooting into the preinstalled recovery by pressing and holding power button ---> Reboot ---> Recovery
again do not do ANYTHING other then fix permissions within Rom Manager.
all ICS/Samsung Vibrant Compatible applications are working with this rom. all root functions are working. and OC/UV utilities should work.
Thx peeps for the info. Just waiting for bug fixes. Otherwise great from!
Hey guys,
I've seen some people asking for numbered battery mods for stock or StreakDroid4 2.5.0 ROMs so I put together a simple theme (thanks to UOT Kitchen) and wanted to share it with anyone who is interested.
The theme simply changes the look of status bar and the icons, battery, system menus, adds new Roboto font ( from ICS), ICS window animations and Blue Android boot animation. Also, due to Raven 2 kindly allowing us use some files from his theme, you will now get ICS-like Phone, Contacts, Gallery and Calendar apk. I'm attaching some screenshots so you can get a visual idea.
I'm running on StreakDroid4 2.5.0 but it may also work on the deodexed or stock 408 ROM.
As usual, I do not take any responsibility for any issues that the process may cause - proceed with caution
To install:
1.Download the zip file below
2. Flash via CWM
Big thanks to TheManii for his ROM and Raven 2 for letting us use his files in this theme.
Just in case you were wondering, the screen lock on the first image is Widgetlocker which isn't free, but you can download MagicLocker or MiLocker that have similar look for free. The launchers I used in the shots (just to show different looks) are Go Launcher EX (with ICS theme) and Espier Launcher both are free too. Also shown and used is another free app - Widgetsoid.

Thanks!

Your language is fine, no worries. Thanks for letting us use your files. I'm going to update the OP and attach the new theme file.
I'll try it out on my deoxed 408 and see how it goes. I just put TeamDRH ICS on my Viewsonic GTab (no thanks to Viewsonic - you suck) and would like a consistent interface across devices
Cool, let me know how it works/looks. It isn't the actual ICS UI but the color scheme and other mods at least remind you of one
It works great! I flashed with CWM, cleared cache & delvik, and fixed permissions for good measure. I especially like the battery icon. Now to find a way to port ICS over to this and we will be set. Maybe our new Korean friends are working on that?

Nice, glad to hear that. Yes, I agree about ICS port or a new ROM from our Korean friends would be great. I think one of their main contributors Kukjin11 is going to upload his ROM in a couple of days, so we will see from there

hey guys iam having the 408 olleh gb running on my phone with ravens theam on top of it..
can i upgrade it to ics them here.. if yes do i have to rename the file that has been given here....
if possible can some one please write the steps since iam very new to this stuff...
thanks alot guys..
hey crainz,
Do you have CWM installed? Are you on deodexed stock 408 ROM created by TheManii? The theme was based on deodexed ROM files from StreakDroid4 2.5.0 (which I use) and I believe it works on the deodexed 408 stock - both of which put together by TheManii. I don't know for sure if it works with a normal odexed ROM - so let's hear from TheManii or anyone else who can verify.
If you have CWM installed, you can easily flash files, like the StreakDroid4 2.5.0 which is basically stock with tweaks and debranded (so no Olleh stuff) and then flash my theme. I recommend you install Titanium backup and back up your apps and data so when you install a new ROM you can restore (or import) you saved data like passwords, shortcuts, game levels, and so on.
Edit: Here's the XDA Wiki page that TheManii created which has the links to SD4 2.5.0 and CWM Recovery downloads:

build number 20707
i have installed the rom from this link that was given to me by RAVEN

If you have CWM installed then you can go ahead and install StreakDroid4 2.5.0. However, you would need to do a factory reset first so back your data up using Titanium Backup (this is a free version) and then you can restore all your apps and data once you flashed SD4. After that just flash ICStock theme and you're good to go.
Thank a lot for the information streak4m3
Just 2 more question before i start the process of upgrade.
1. when i installed the CWM using this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423002
Ans started the phone i was able to get the CWM to work. But once i shut down the phone again and try
You switch mute to OFF hold both volume buttons down and power on. You will see a menu with 3 options, choose the one to upgrage SW package and choose with the camera button.
iam getting the Blue colour screen. iam not getting the CWM options.
Is this how it is suppose to work or am i doing something wrong.
2.Once i have flashed StreakDroid4 2.5.0 after renaming the file to upgrade.pkg.how do i flash the ICS theam?? IF you could kindly give me the steps that would be great..

OK, first of all you're not supposed to rename SD4 2.5.0 to update.pkg
Let's make sure I understand you correctly. You're saying that you have (or had) CWM installed and you verified that it works (worked), right? That means that you can (could) get to CWM recovery and see all the options, like: reboot system, install zip, wipe cache partition, advanced and so on, correct?
Are you now saying you can't get to CWM recovery? That it somehow goes to Dell stock recovery option which is blue (I think)? CWM mode has blue color text too so that's why it is a little bit confusing.
If you somehow lost CWM recovery just install it again and then simply flash SD4 2.5.0
i have seen the option that come with CWM reboot system, install zip, wipe cache partition, advanced and so on...
This comes once i have installed it using the instruction listed in the post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1423002
i even was able to create a back up the rom on my system using CWM.. which got listed in the sdcard as well.
but once i shutdown the phone and start it again i dont get that CWM again it comes up with the blue dell flash tool.(which is in blue colour again) just like CWM
Just wanted to know if this is the same that happens in you case as well or are you able to get CWM evertime.
(if i install it again Iam able to get it to work once and them again back to the dell flash screen)
Just wanted to know if there is a way by which we can get it permenantly to work without having to flast it again and again..

CWM should be there every time - it's a permanent thing. You can install it again and flash SD4 2.5.0 during that one time that you can get into CWM recovery.
hey
Here is what i did. I flashed SD4 2.5.0 on my phone using CWM.. all went well
Then i flashed your ICS theme.. and restarted the phone.. that went well as well.
But what i did after that was i reset the phone to default using the option in settings.
The phone just stoped working completly.
It got stuck at the Blue Andriod startup... I tryed to do the process all over again...
No luck.... I think i have messed up my phone completly.
But before i started doing all this what i did was i took a back up of my phone using CMW..
So when restored the system back all came back using CWM the phone was back and working again...
What did i do wrong..... and is there any better way of doing this???

Not really sure what exactly may have happened in your situation. So are you up and running again? And why did you want to do a factory reset after flashing SD4 2.5.0?
If you're phone is not up and runing right now then you need to get to CWM if you can and just reflash SD4 and the theme. If you can't get to CWM, then you need to restore your phone using TheManii's steps in his thread for unbricking your phone (basically you would need to flash via fastboot options).
I've looked and not found an identical problem.
I've an x10 mini pro (U20i) which workls fine with the SE firmware, but as soon as I install a new kernel (tried the gingerbread and ICS nAa) I get the system freezing after the kernel boot logo.
I can get into recovery if I hit the back key during startup, but other than that all I can do is remove the battery.
I've tried booting with just the new kernel and with new kernel +minicm7
Ive been using the flashtool (tried on both ubuntu and windows xp) and that shows that the bootloader is unlocked OK, and will allow me to go install the new firmware.
Even though the phone freezes, I can still get in with flashtool to upgrade the kernel again - but that doesnt help.
I'm using PC companion to take the phone back to build 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware 2.1-update1 with baseband ending 4015 after my attempts fail.
I've tried now with and without a sim (phone is sim locked o2 uk) with 16gb sd and 2gb sd but I'm getting the same result every time.
I must be doing something stupid, but I can't see what. I've exactly followed instructions here and elsewhere to no avail.
So suggestions?
Is there any way that I can monitor what is going on through the boot process?
Is there another kernel that I should try?
I'm going to grab my wifes X8 and try that tomorrow, but for now I'm off to bed.
thanks in advance for any help.
I'm kind of thinking you're trying to use the kernels with the stock rom, and that will never work.
You say you tried the new kernel with minicm7, but which kernel did you flash when you tried that? and did you wipe the data/factory reset, the cache and dalvik-cache after you installed the rom?
All these things can have an impact on what you're trying to achieve
If you use the nAa ICS Kernel, you need the MiniCM9 ROM.
If you use the MiniCM7 ROM, you need the nAa-Gingerbread kernel.
Hope i've helped, and if the answer isn't here, you may need to be a bit more specific in what combinations you've tried and maybe where you got the kernels and roms from.
Sleep well
Hi,
Maybe thats it? I updated the kernel to gingerbread first then used the built in boot manager toinstall miniCM7 from the sd card.
Kernels taken from here, downloaded several times - in case of corruption.
Should I have installed CM7 first? I assumed the kernel needed updating before installing the updated interface.
So I'll need to install CWM onto stock first, then use that to install CM7 then once happy that that is OK upgrade the kernel?
I'll try it that way this evening.
No, installing the kernel and then installing minicm7 is ok, no need to do that the other way around
But did you make sure you got both from them both from the proper forum?
GB kernel from Here
MiniCM7 from Here
Strange by me it also freeze as i flash the kernel first. I install always with CMW on stock kernel and flash the nAa kernel than.
Interestingly:
requirements for that kernel are : miniCM7
requirements for CM7: latest kernel
However - redownloaded from those link and it worked.
Which is good, but also bad because I didn;t do anything differently to get it to work.
Since I did download a couple of times before, all I can think of is that I've inadvertently downloaded from elsewhere.
Hmmm
maybe is the bad memory management but when it happend to me i hard rebooted the phone then pressed the back button to go to recovery and before kernel boots to recovery i realesed it.If this problem keep existing then flash kernel, when it sows the logo pull out the battery quickly and then boot again
Greetings Folks!!!
I m a noob at rooted androids, so please forgive my idiocy.
I hv recently rooted my Neo V (stock firmware 4.0.4 - 587) and am hoping to install some custom ROM. I read that I need CWM in place first. So installed X-Parts, installed the CWM by pvyParts, and rebooted my phone. While reboot, I saw the blue led glow on Sony logo, and tried hitting home key, but the phone never went in recovery mode. I tried multiple reboots with different hardware keys, but no good. Tried reinstalling X-Parts, stilll nogo. Although, I can go into recovery mode via X-Parts tools menu just fine. Only the recovery mode wont start by hitting hardware keys. Any idea?
PS:- I hv installed Rom Mgr as well, but not sure if I need it to work with X-Parts.
Keep tappin the screen when you see the sony logo and blue led..or u could just keep wipin the screen at that point

Thanks a lot LoneWanderer!!! Worked like a charm!!! And here I was, tapping all possible hardware buttons on my Neo V, because that's what all the sites asked me to do. Thanks again mate!!! :good: Already hit the "Thanks" button for you
Now, moving on to the second part of my query. I have installed ROM Manager as well (I will admit that I am not sure if X-Parts & ROM Manager work independent of each other). I booted into recovery mode successfully now, and went through the "Backup" option in "Backup & Restore" menu, and it backed up all my system & data files (went on for like 7 - 8 mins). I am not sure if this is the same as taking a backup of you ROM (which can be used to restore your phone to a previous state i.e. as it was before you installed a custom ROM on it). Some help would be nice.Thanks.
yea..i found that as i was wipin the screen when rebootin lol
the backup in recovery will backup everythin..the entire rom..apps..data..everythin and yes it can be used to restore to previous state(ie restore to the point where u took the backup).. and always make a backup before tryin a new mod/theme.. :good:

the backup in recovery will backup everythin..the entire rom..apps..data..everythin and yes it can be used to restore to previous state(ie restore to the point where u took the backup).. and always make a backup before tryin a new mod/theme.. :good:

Does that mean this CWM (5.5.0.4, I believe) installed thru X-Parts can be used without having any need of ROM Manager (at least for backing up & restoring ROMs, and installing custom ROMs)?
Also, how'z that "Jelly Sandwich 7.4" ROM working out for your Neo V? Is it stable & fast? Any Pros & Cons you noticed? If it's good, I would like to give it a go. However, most of the procedures I noticed in the install instructions in the threads for these custom ROMs are very short (precise for a knowledgeable guy, but not very elaborate for a noob ). I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction to get some detailed step-by-step instructions to install a custom ROM on my Neo V. Thanks again mate!!!
yup CWM does all that..backup..restore and flashin custom roms..
JS7.4 is nice..fast and smooth..best part, free ram after boot is 200+ and sways between 180-160mb..after some usage..its a stock based one..so evrythin works fine..has stock icons..themes...no force closes..or crashes..the latest JS is 8.5 though(but with custom icons which werent to my liking )
well different roms have slightly different instructions..which are mentioned in their resp threads...just follow them precisely..and install thru CWM..and yes they are short..but there isnt anythin more to them..
And if ur bootloader is locked..and ur plannin to install JS..then dont follow the instructions given by the Dev..search for the ones given by Pandemic in the thread... :good:

Thanks for the tip mate!!! I m still goin thru the learning phase about rooting, flashing etc. but loving it so far. Due to my lack of knowledge on the matter and the risk involved (of bricking my phone), I think its best to clarify everything first, before doing anything stupid
Keeping my fingers crossed :fingers-crossed: and hoping for the best :good:
