Hi all, just wondering if any of you have had any problems with the unread sms message count on the home screen.
When I get a msg, I get the unread msg count on both the home screen and apps screen. When I read the msg the unread msg count on the app screen disappears, but on the home screen the msg count remains.
I tried all sorts to resolve the problem, deleted the cache, resetting the phone, re-applying the stock le8 firmware.
I have finally narrowed it down to changing the font.
If I change the font from default to anything else, the problem occurs, even if you change it back and delete the cache, the only resolution I've found is to reset the phone and not change the font.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Rich
P.S. I can get rid of the unread msg count if I reboot the phone, but once I get another msg, I'm back to the same problem.

I read from a thread here that this could happen if you enable the force gpu in the developer option or you tried to force clear the memory

Maybe is firmware related.
What rom are you running now?
Maybe an update to latest LF5 or LF6 will solve your issue

same thing with missed calls. go to settings. then hit developer options, you should have the "Dont Keep Activities" unticked.

I have been having some odd issues with my sms. I originally used the stock sms application and swype beta 3.0. When I unlock the screen with the sms app open, the message options open up (like when you tap on a message) and i have to lock it, unlock it, and hit home instantly to get out. then it is frozen on the home screen for a few minutes. it sometimes freezes on the home screen on its own when I use the sms app also. I switched to using Go sms pro and it worked fine for a few days. Now the same error is occuring and the message options (that only should open with the stock sms) are randomly opening in go sms pro and the keyboard will start having random letters pressed without me touching the screen. any ideas for how to fix this?
Thank you for your help in advance

Delete Go SMS, power off your phone, power it on again then try to reinstall it. Worst case scenario you may have to format your phone back to stock. I've had issues like this in the past and following those steps would usually get me working before having to format back to stock.
Do you have too many text messages saved? Try deleting some.
I have a missed call on phone icon (number 1 over the icon) that don't want go away.
I have already deleted missed call registry, phone cache and reset touchwitz but problem is still present. I don't want to do an hard reset possibly. Any suggestion?
Thank you
same to me. i have the same issue. still unsolve. did you manage to get any solution?
I've has an issue with this I've for a missed call (today funny enough) and once for a message. Both times deleting the message/call and a reboot got rid if it.

Yeah I'd already tried that as well, and doing the same to the contacts process. I read somewhere this is only an issue in the f/w version so hopefully the update fixes it.
Miss call notification
I had same issue about call notification....on my S3
After looking at different forums the only option is FACTORY RESET....Unfortunately
I dont have any problem after that!!!!!!!
I have the, "red 1" on both the text and mail icon that won't go away.
I tried everything but nothing seems to work, please help

Try different launcher Nova or Apex...
I think I might have found it!!! I had the same issue that frustrated me, spent a LOT of time researching all the forums and didn't find the answer but used my own initiative and so far has worked for me..
I really hope this works for other's out there and if it is a fix that Samsung adopt it as a fix rather than telling people to factory reset their phone..
Go to Settings > Application Manager > All applications (on the top).
Locate the "BadgeProvider" app, once in there select "clear data"
If it works for you please post your reply.
Thanks yourown
Fixed it 4 me :good:
Worked for me to , big thx .
you also may need to unchek "do not keep activities" under settings------------developer options
Yes this is the solution. Clearing badgeprovider did the trick!

A factory reset is AFAIK the only thing that helps - or using an alternative Launcher like Nova or Apex.

Check if this works:
Open Messaging>Menu>Delete Threads>Select all and Delete.
This fixed the issue for a colleague's phone. Might be a message which is stuck and not showing up in Messaging.

if you mean to delete the icon of it and drag and drop it again from apps ,
well the ANSWER IS YES i did , and i wonder the icon itself in apps menu stuck with no. 1 too like the other one
I had this and tried everything to clear it but unfortunately the only thing that worked was factory reset. Even reinstalling a later firmware didnt clear it.
Your apps are all redownloaded after thels reset, but you will lose anything saved in Your folders on the phone memory.

I had the same issue when I installed the Handcent widget and kept the stock messaging app. Here's what worked for me:
1) Go to Settings > Developer Options, and check "Do not keep activities". I'm not sure what this actually does (or how it affects other apps) so I unchecked it after it took away the message notification.
2) After a little while, the problem reappeared, so I found a free app called "SMS Cleaner Free" in the Play Store. That seemed to solve my issue permanently, as it hasn't reappeared since.
I'm not sure if one or a combo of doing both helped, but try it out and let us know.

I have looked at all the other threads and they didn't help me, my problem is that the stock messaging app crashes every time i start it, meaning, i cant do anything with messages. It started today when last night it was working. Im running stock rom, kernel, everything is unchanged, unrooted and using Nova launcher. The only thing i did today was Install BBS and disabled some useless Samsung apps like Joyn and such, but nothing mayor.
i tried clearing the data and force closing it, restarting, taking battery out, when i place the widget for messaging the app itself crashes, the widget stays and i see my threads, but when i open them, it crashes again...so honestly, i have no idea whats going on.
Thank you!!
!!EDIT: The messaging app doesnt crash anymore (no idea why it stopped crashing) but! I cannot send messages, it tells me always "message failed" also with other apps like GoSMS and HandSent, I cannot send messages. I tried going to /system/app and trying to install again the stock apks, but nothing, It tells me that Application Installation failed Rooted my phone just now, and still doesnt help.

what version of android are you using ? if it is based on samsung 4.2.1 leaked rom, you need to wipe data from CWM to use messaging app :good:
What happens if you go to call logs and swipe from right to left to send a message and then press the back button (should take you to the messages window)?

Im running 4.1.2. Aparently the messaging app works again now, I installed GoSMS and made it default. then i went back to the messaging app and it opens, but if i send a message it says "message failed" i retry, and then it crashes. However, with GoSMS, i sent an SMS to myself, and it seems to work.
