Hey,
I know this might be a nooby question but my moboot screen won't change when I flash a custom splash screen to it. When I do it in either ROM manager or clockwork recovery it gives me an error message saying that the file can't be unzipped. I can post the error message if need be.

Please post more details and try re downloading the zip or another theme. Then reply what happens.

I was having a similar problem. I just had to find an alternate mooboot.background.zip.
Then, when you put in your custom 1024x768 tga file, you most overwrite the one within the zip, but you have to make sure to select 'STORE' instead of compress.
This is my current boot folder, I see the custom moboot files in it but still nothing is happening
Sent from the one touchpad to rule them all
Well not sure this will help on cwm or not, but my image file is saved as a TGA file. It should look something like: moboot.background.tga but I use twrp with goo-manager. Tc

I've deleted all the custom files and reflashed them, they saved as tga files but still no custom moboot screen

what do you mean?
What kind of .zip?
is it flashable?
If not, extract it on PC or androidzip on phone, and use the wallpapers?
im not sure what kind of .zip your talking about.
The honeycomb wallpapers were in the forums about a week ago. I have the file on my phone but I don't know how to install. I tried doing it from recovery but it gets stuck on the installation screen.,

Don't do that. Just open the zip on your computer and see if you can pull the images out.

What he said^^^ I just make a folder on my internal sd called backgrounds and put my wallpapers in them.. I think if you long press on a zip file on your sd it will also extract it to a folder called extracted on your phone.
Just unzip and set the image as wallpaper.

I don't recall any threads on this, but the kernels like overstock and tigers blood do... Perhaps pm them?
THERE is a way.
You can change it to whatever picture you want.
Its a bit advanced but theres a program for it.
I'll give when I get back from school.
Getting late
Thanks can't wait to try

There are 2 splash images. One hard coded into the kernel (only changeable through kernel source then recompiling the kernel) and the splash image located in the param.lfs partition.
So changing the param.lfs splash image won't get rid of the kernel splash image.

Change it to what? Do you want to make your own splash screen or just use one from another ROM that you liked?
If its using one from another ROM...its easy....
Download RootExplorer.
Open it and go to the "system" folder. then look for the "/media" file (/system/media) then look for the file called "bootanimation.zip"
That is the boot splash screen file.
If you want one from another ROM.
USE YOUR COMPUTER and open the ROM.zip file you want (bionix1.3.1.zip or sweethoney25.zip) could be any ROM.
Now navigate to the same folder "system\media" and copy the "bootanimation.zip" to you desktop.
Now plug your phone to your computer and copy the bootanimation.zip to your phone....anywhere is good just remember where you put it.
Now unplug your phone and open RootExplorer. Find the "bootanimation.zip" you just copied to your phone and long press it.
Choose the "move" option.
Now go to the "system\media" folder....long press the bootanimation.zip in that folder and choose "delete"...now paste the other bootanimation.zip into this folder.
Reboot!
Viola...you have your bootanimation.
If you want the stock Galaxy bootanimation...just use Rootexplorer and delete the file "bootanimation.zip" from the "system\media" folder and reboot! (this option only works if you see two different files in the folder named samsungboot.qmg and samsungbootloop.qmg...as those are the files for stock bootanimation)
::if this helps feel free to thank me""
Not the bootanimation the splash image at the begining I know how to change bootanimations. The image before the bootanimation. On htc phones you can change that along with the boot

Sorry guys, I know how to fix it, and change it to any image wanted...
I saw a video on it and tried on my phone and worked while on 2.2
The video is on mobile tech videos or something, but you need to go to their website for software and everything.
I haven't been to a computer in 4 days ,its broken, so I'll try to post link when I can.
Great Info Thank You
Here is a youtube link. The video states only for i9000, but the website has files for the t959 (vibrant) and the process is the same. I have successfully used this method. On my vibrant. Also attached is the image I flashed if you want it.

This is the one I'm talking about!!
I know this is probably not the right place to post this, but I am trying to figure out how to install a boot animation on my vibrant. I have cm7 installed and found a forum that helped but all I get is a black screen or the plain android logo. I used super manager and moved the zip file to /system/media. And set the permissions to what it told me to. When I reboot nothing. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I have become quite savvy with my phone. Thanks.

You didn't exactly say this but, is the file named simply bootanimation.zip? Not talking down but trying to help. Other than that seems good.
The original file was named bootanimation.zip and I found a transformers one that I wanted and it was named bootanimation_transformers.zip. I tried leaving the file name, got the android logo. Renamed it and got a black screen.

search the Vibrant forum on custom boot animations... download a flashable zip boot animation file from one of the great devs on here then swap your images in place of theirs, re-zip it and flash it with CWM... worked for me like a charm!
One question, how do I replace images? Super manager won't let me unzip files. Do I need to use the PC for that or is there a simpler way?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
My vote goes to PC
I used PC for everything as well...
Unzipped and re-zipped with 7zip and modded images with Gimp...
Thanks, I will give that a try when I get home and let you if it worked. Just to maybe clarify. Would I have to unzip both the original file and the new file and replace the new files with the original file and rezip and put back? Cause that is what I am going to try.

I have Cherrykang installed and so far I am pleased with the performance. But I really like the boot screen animation.
I realize though that with the changes that are most likely coming with Touchpad Android development and me being a flahoholic, I won't be on Cherrykang for too long.
How can I keep the boot animation no matter what rom I flash. In root explorer how can I find it and use it for other roms?
Thanks
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The boot animation will be under /system/media as a zip file.
Sent from my GT-I5700 using Tapatalk
Found it! OK now if.....when I flash another rom I'll copy and paste this one.
OK so I can't figure out how to add the boot animation and get it to work. I'm putting the unzipped sanim. Zip into the system/media folder with rim toolbox but the boot room won't run.
Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. I don't see that file in the media folder to begin with. I didn't think you had to unzip it though.

Maybe that's my problem. I'll try it without unzipping it.
Edit: nope that wasn't it

If that does the trick, let me know. I just don't know what file that would be replacing since I don't see sanim.zip to begin with.

Just an fyi, custom boot animations are not possible if ur running ICS due to no source for the kernel.. If ur on GB, try searching the play store there are quite a few apps that will do all the work for you with a kernel that supports custom boot animations. hope this helps.

ok so i still am not able to get the cm9 boot animation to work. anyone have any ideas I've already tried just renaming the file and placing it into /system/media but I get nothing. I don't know what else to try.
I'm at a loss. Did a search in ES file explorer and came up with nothing. Isn't that file supposed to already exist, and you're replacing it? In my wife's phone I see it under system/media as bootanimation.zip. Can't find that either.
Edit:she does not have a Note.

Usually the boot animation is located in system/media and named samsungbootanimation.qmg by default.
Now that file is in there, along with what looks like a bootloop file(bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg) So are we naming the new file the same and adding a bak to the original for safe keeping?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I never really tried, but if I had to go play around with it, that'd be my way of doing it. Just make sure you aren't renaming a .zip file to qmg. That will mess things up severely.
Anyone have any luck with this? Was gonna use rom toolbox. Anyone have success with that?

Just rename the zip to bootanimation.zip and place it in media folder....thats what works for me
Also delete the samsung.qmg files

I had to move the zip file into the media folder, but other than that it worked. The only issue I'm having is the animation doesn't take up the whole screen.

as far as I know... the file name is supposed to be "sanim.zip" and located in "system/media" folder
working custom boot animation on "the unofficial v1.1A2" here
here's more proof of what I'd indicated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623200
and here's are some already made for our note using the compatible kernel

You're absolutely right. You don't have to rename or remove any existing files in the folder. Just place the zip in the media folder and rename sanim.zip. Good to go. Thanks for the info!
