Will there be a root method once the Maxx receives the ICS OTA update? Or will they make the bootloader unlockable like they did with the last Droid X update?

sincerely, I don't think we will know until the official gets released. But to be on the safe side, just protect root using vodoo..

yes root is posted in this link
This method is fully tested on my razr and success rooted

There's a less complicated root method that they're holding until the OTA is released, so yes, it will be rootable

I recently bought the Razr Maxx for my dad, (who had been on the Droid X) and I ran a Titanium Backup on all his data, and I want to be able to restore the information, but i still want him to be able to get OTA updates, whenever they come. Is there any way that I can still restore everything, while keeping his OS stock?

Why do you need temporary root? As long as you don't flash a new rom you will still get OTA updates.
I have been waiting for jellybean for the original RAZR. I am rooted and I have data limit and no wifi. I would download the cyanogen 10 for my RAZR but like I said, data limit of only 4 gb. Any updates you can give me on the JB update for my phone? Currently on ICS 4.0.4

This update work on GSM RAZR XT910 with ICS 4.0.4. It's the sames step describes on the website:
1) **Make sure you are on ICS 4.0.4 AND ROOTED**
2) Plug in your Razr to your PC and move the "Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file to your SD card.
3) Download OTA RootKeeper app from the Play Store. (or using option 3 in RazrUtility)
4) Open OTA RootKeeper and select "Restore Root". Then select "Temp. un-root". Then, once again, select "Restore Root", then select Temp Unroot.
5) Power into Recovery mode. Once you see the android with the red triangle, hold vol. up and vol. down buttons.
6) Select "apply update from SD Card">"Choose .zip from SD card"
7) Select the "Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file and wait for it to finish. (This will take about 15 min).
8) Power on your Razr and open the OTA RootKeeper app.
9) Click "Restore Root"
10) Enjoy JB with root access
??????
Didn't update. It aborted itself because of an error.

You have either bootstrap or safestrap installed you cannot update.

In this thread "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064074" you will find what you need. Matt's droid razr utility and root fixer. Your gonna need to reflash back to stock. Reroot. Backup root. Install jb. Restore root with fixer. Im sorry im not gonna sniff through the whole thread for the links of the programs. But they are in there

Well searching and following instructions go a long way. There are multiple threads with instructions on how to update. I know because I wrote one. First step is to fastboot back to stock 211 (assuming you're on 211 now.) That will get rid of safestrap.

Why not just flash the JB Kernel and an JB Custom Rom. In that case you can roll back to tge ICS Kernel and don't get in any kind of trouble with Root.

Well my main question that I meant to ask (which I guess I did t make it clear) was, does anybody have and news on jb for the DROID RAZR without flashing anything? Just a legit rom that I guess Motorola makes.

Oh you mean an actual OTA Update? After the accidental OTA, Moto supposedly said that it would be a few weeks before they push an ACTUAL release via OTA. So, with that said, according to Moto we should get an OTA before January is over with.
Thank you! I couldn't remember the letters ota for nothing! That's what I was really asking. Thank you for the information.

Hey everyone. So I have installed the OTA Jelly Bean update (4.1.2) on my XT912 and I want to go to ICS so I can have root and maybe try OTA RootKeeper. I know it "can't be possible" to downgrade, but there's one idea I have. In ICS, **I created an "update.zip" file. This was basically a backup of all my things... Can I use "update.zip" to downgrade my phone from Jelly Bean to ICS?** Thanks.

Anyone?? I don't need a real answer. At least a prediction.
My prediction is that it won't work due to the locked bootloader hence the kernel will stay jellybean kernel

Yeah that sounds correct. I just need to wait for a root method I guess... thanks. Hurry up with that root method, ppl!

You can keep waiting. Ill see the s4 and s5 before i see an unlocked bootloader for the razr. By which ppl with razrs will move on to another phone

Yes, there's a thread for it somewhere around here, personally I would either try the dual boot option, or wait for the official ota, judging by the accidental leak I would assume they are working hard to push the official soon.

I can confirm this works with the OFFICIAL 4.1.2 release (not the December 24th one). Also, I didn't do a FDR. I DID enable the stock apps I disabled though. Also, when you unzip the root exploit zip file, do not rename the folder it creates. I kept running into an issue of it not working, until i just unzipped and ran the .bat file. It worked smooth after that. I was running .211 when I installed the OTA final update today, to clarify.

How do I know this version gives the right to an root?,
XT910 EMEA 4.1.2 Root ?
Getting ready to do my very first root on my Razr Maxx XT912.
Currently running 4.0.4
Should I OTA to JB then root, or root from ICS or does it really matter?
Any benefits or downsides to either?
Thanks,
Jeff

You might get more support on XDA if you stay on ICS, esp if the jb OTA just came online. I personally don't think there's all that much benefit, you can always do your prl, profile, update, once you root anyway. But if you want to flash a custom jb ROM, all the ones I've flashed require you to flash a stock one first. Then if that's the case, then yeah, def ota to jb so you have it already when you flag a custom jb.good luck. Read read read before you root!

Well went to JB before root. Then found out they did away with speed dial. I loved speed dial! Anyway everything works out great. Thanks those that replied.
