You can refer to this just instead of the given firmware link you have to download a firmware of your country..

Hm. First of all, booting simply means restarting your phone. Reduction of RAM is normal when you update to ICS 4.0 as more memory is required for the system functions which you are not allowed to access.
You can overclock your processor if speed is what you are looking for (but this would require rooting and stuff)
Or if you are adamant on switching back to an older version (which will give you more ram) you can switch back to Gingerbread 2.3.6 which is the version that was in use before ICS 4.0.
Google for Gingerbread 2.3.6 for your phone, or you can check out this link if you like.
Simple process really. The site will ask you to download a file which will contain the gingerbread .tar extension file and odin. Odin is a software through which you can install firmware updates.
So first completely turn off your phone (wait for the vibrate at the end as a confirmation that its completely off)
Next boot your phone into Download Mode. (Press Volume down + the home button/center buttom + power button and hold all 3 for 3 seconds)
Once you are in download mode, open up odin on your computer and connect your phone to you computer via the USB cable. A box on the middle left of odin should turn yellow (if not, the drivers for your mobile are not properly installed on your computer)
Next, click on the PDA button and search for the .tar extension file you downloaded and select it.
Then just hit start.
P.S - Dont tick or untick any boxes in Odin. Leave the default ticked boxes as they are and just hit start.
Once its done, congratulations, your back to 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

Hi everyone,
I made this thread because I wanted to make a guide of my own to update your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. I'm with Virgin Mobile, so I can confirm this work fine. You wont lose any of yours data, apps.
I experienced a better battery lifetime, better signal reception, gps, etc.
I put together many different guide to make things easier for new users.
All guides here are from XDA developers. I don't take any credits for them.
First you need Samsung Kies if you don't already have it. This is only to get the driver for your phone. Plug in your phone with usb cable and wait for the peripheral to get recognize.
After this close Kies and kill any process named Kies in your task manager.
download here
http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
or french version
http://www.samsung.com/fr/kies/
Take your phone; hit parameter, applications, developement and check usb debog and fictitious position ( sorry my phone is in french not sure how its called in english, just check both option). You have to uncheck them if you want to transfer files on your phone like you do normally.
Now you need :
Get Odin v1.85 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/1RTGSE061G

This package has: PDA: XWKK5| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2

The stock kernels are to be used to restore the kernel version after rooting and are not needed for updating the firmware.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.
Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from the second or third posts and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
Should look like this screenshot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended
You will lose root so just re-root with the guide below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions - ODIN (long)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
Yellow Triangle Removal
Just flash the original kernel I linked.
Tutorial can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1193091
Alternatively you can use a Jig as it also resets the custom Rom counter
Tips
Download Titanim Backup from the market once your phone is rooted. It backup everything and put back all yours apps, icones the way they were.
Get Juice defender and autokiller memory for you battery. It really work well. There's a cool feature where you can downclock your cpu at idle if its rooted.
You can get the original firmware from here (2.3.3)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
If you need to put back your phone the way it was when you bought from the store.
Thats's all enjoy GingerBread 2.3.6.
Feel free to post if there's any mistake or something missing.
How come you chose XWKK5? Would I be ok to use the XWLA4 firmware from Germany?
samsung galaxy s2 ICS upgrade
Hi
I am new to this game so bear with me. Originally I rooted my phone using odin and put on a rom called lite'ning v6.1 and it is using version gingerbread 2.3.4.
Now that ICS is out, I wish to upgrade to it.
Do I need to do things in this order:
1. remove the rom
2. unroot the phone
3. upgrade to ICS
4. reroot the phone with the old rom or maybe a new one.
tried with odin and it wouldn't work then read your article about kernels and the version i need, ie virgin australia has been removed from the link you put up.
please repost it or let me know where i can get it for free
thanks
damon
does the rom support for my GT-i9100 in malaysia?

sammobile.com, find a stock firmware, either GB or ICS, put in PDA section of Odin, flash.
Chris.
Most importantly, one for your PARTICULAR model of phone. Check on the label under your battery to be sure.

That too!
this is en example that help u flash with odin. (Proceed at your own risk)
Step by Step Instructions:
Download the Android Firmware
Extract the downloaded file ‘I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1.rar’ to get these 3 files:
CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5
Download Odin software
Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN+Home+Power.
this is required to install the XXKG1 using Odin PC Software.
Open Odin (from step 3) — Odin3 v1.85.exe.
Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !”
under the Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message,
than probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve drivers installed.
Important! On Odin, Do NOT tick the ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox, but keep the ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F.
Reset Time’ checkboxes ticked. Do not touch any other checkbox or tab or anything, except as required in step 9 below.
Select these files in Odin at respective tabs (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):
Click the PDA Tab, and select CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5 (from step 2.1)
Click the Phone Tab, and select MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5 (from step 2.3)
Click the CSC Tab, and select GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5 (from step 2.2)
Now, hit the START button to let the process begin.
When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot —
and you can unplug the cable then.
Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
If it’s red and with FAIL written over it, the process flashing process wasn’t successful.
Using XDA Premium over Resurrection Remix ICS, the Best Rom ever made
I am rooted galaxy S2. I have received an alert from ATT saying ICS is available to download. I am not able to connect using Kies. I have tried the following with no luck after reading tons of posts here:
i) checked/unchecked to USB debugging mode.
ii)dialed *#7284#...checked/unchecked usb mode there too, no luck.
iii) updated kies drivers ,still same issue.
ONLY option left is to factory reset my phone. IDK if i am facing this issue because i have rooted phone or something else. If anyone had SUCCESSFULLY upgraded to ICS on there rooted phone, please let me know...
if you are rooted and you have clockworkmod recovery, and you want the stock feel ICS, flash the ROM that I have linked in my signature. Its look is pretty much stock ICS but it is a HELL of a lot more smooth and has features that the stock does not have.
to answer your question, yes, at one point I did update using KIES from a rooted phone. After you have tried to connect, run the connection wizard from the KIES main window after you disconnect the phone.
are you rooted on stock GB 2.3.4, 2.3.6 or rooted and on a custom ROM?
Thanks for prompt response. Sorry for my limited knowledge, i dont know what does Stock and ROM means. I dont remember how i rooted my phone. I just want to get the latest official ICS update.
if you want the latest ics using kies turn phone off, pull battery, you'll need your s/n #and model, then put battery back in, open kies, go to tools, go down to firmware upgrade and initialization, it'll then ask for your s/n and model name, must match,, click ok, before continuing, hold, both volume buttons and plug into computer, it'll then go to download mode, to enter download mode, push volume up button once, you'll then be at the downloading screen, then follow on screen prompts, make sure you have a stable internet connection for your computer

doesn't using that method wipe all user data tied to the system? internal sd data remains but you lose all your setups.
Guess I don't understand. If you are rooted use the app in play store to keep root and use mobile Odin to flash the update. Then you can retain root on a terrible ics

this worked. thanks
I've read just about every thread on here with people having issues updating and nothing has worked for me. I can't seem to get kies to connect to my phone to use the emergency tool (tied just about every method here). I'm thinking it maybe best to try my hand again at reverting back to gb and see if kies will connect. I'm not sure what tools I need to go back to gb, rom, modem etc, and which order to flash them at. I've downloaded to my pc the big rar file located in the dev sticky section for unbricking but when I place the file into odin and run it, it fails...what do I do?

There is an issue with Kies updating if the modem file does not match what its looking for. If you have changed in ROM/rooted, etc there is a chance you have installed a version of the modem it deems unfit...and refused to update.
Follow these instructions to update your Note to the official ICS unrooted AT&T release;

Here is the simple way to do it and you can do it through Kies no matter what Firmware you are on.
1: Take battery out and write down the serial number exactly how it is written.
2: Put battery back in and cover back on.
3: Restart phone.
4: Place phone in Download Mode by holdin volume down and power buttons at the same time then when you get to the menu screen it will tell you to press volume up to continue, do that.
5: Run Kies, connect your device and inside Kies click on tools, in the dropdown menu click on Firmware Upgrade And Initialization.
6: In the popup screen type your serial number exactly how it it written under the battery and then type SGHI717 with all caps for the model name.
7: You will get a popup about downloading the firmware upgrade press ok.
8: Another popup will ask you if you agree, check the box about how you read and agree and click start upgrade.
Now Kies will download the firmware upgrade and your device will be upgraded to ICS.
FYI...Need to enter the dash in the model name = SGH-I717

use the following link mate for flashing the kernel i suggested
http://www.google.co.in/url?q=http:...iA4ZzA&usg=AFQjCNEyxoN6ZrQnShBzL3rSb4aKGkJGyw
And then this to flash a rom of your choice
Get into CWM
Power off the phone.
Hold down the Volume Up button at the same time as your hold the power button and home button until the phone vibrates once. As soon as the phone vibrates once release the power button while continuing to hold Volume Down
Step 1: Understanding CWM, usage.
Before doing anything, navigate to "Backup and Restore" and select backup and confirm. This is known as a nandroid backup. If you ever are caught in a bind you will navigate here and select Restore instead of Backup in this menu.
Now is play time without many worries. Restart back into the normal Android system and gain access to your internal SD card via USB on your computer. Copy your ROM to "the root" of your SD card.
Restart back into CWM.
You're ready to flash, but right before flashing any ROM perform the following steps:
Select wipe data/factory reset and confirm
Select wipe cache partition and confirm
Select advanced - wipe dalvik cache and confirm
Select install zip from SD card
Select from internal SD card or wherever you placed it.
Select the ROM file and confirm.
Once the bottom line says complete you'll have access to the menu to select Go Back and then Reboot system now.
All done!
Gud luck mate
Read well before you start
