Greetings, I tried flashing touchwiz and my phone went dead. It will not go into recovery mode but I do get to download mode. I downloaded the necessary files to flash with odin but I can't get the tar files. All files are zimage and most have the "vlc." logo next to them. Any ideas? thanks!
Pat
One. Can a dead thing do any thing?
If you can do download mode its not dead.
Two. Get the tar.md5 file aka stock from and flash using Odin. Try sammobile.com or better use checkfus downloader
Three after flash wipe to fix any issues.
And learn what wipe means, I don't want people after wipe getting angry hey I lost everything.
thanks for the reply! Yes I have the files....but it's showing up as "zimage" and "vlc." files. thanks again.!
zImage is JUST the kernel. You need to download the full firmware.
downloaded all files from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
including the kernel. Now when I try to add the tar. files....it's not showing on odin. anyone know why? and how I can fix that? thanks

See if you got drivers installed correctly.
You have to be in download mode to use Odin

Which file(s) did you download?
drivers reinstalled and phone only boots too download mode.
pat
Get into download mode
Put the file in pda
Flash.
The file should be tar.md5 and will be between 250 to 350 mb normally
I9100XXLPH.zip\I9100XXLPH
the recovery package and rom from the "guide" post.
Pat
k...it always stops at set-up connection.

Interesting... When flashing the ROM, do you have a .PIT file + ticked Re-partition in ODIN? If not, try that.
Here's the download for stock firmware, straight from SamFirmware (XXKI3, Open Europe, 2.3.5) : http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html

I have found a PIT file ~ u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit I don't know where it came from though? it exists in a folder on my desktop where Odin is placed. Do you think that will be safe?
I've never flashed with Re-partition ticked in odin. I've read that is dangerous. Is this defo safe to do?
Thanks

Yes, it is dangerous when you don't know what you're doing. Be VERY careful when around .PITs.
But I have soft bricked my GSII 3 times, and I have flashed KH3 recovery package thrice, WITH the .PIT. The .PIT is just to be as fresh and stock as possible.
Download the package I gave you. But also, what are you trying to flash?
Just to be safe, don't use the .PIT that you "found". The name's the same as in the pack I gave you, but better than than sorry

Anytime
Yes, it will include the .PIT, aswel as MODEM, CODE and CSC (which should be multi).
Also, just to make sure, uninstall KIES. It may interfere on the flashing process + it's useless

Yes Do you know where to place each one of them? Let's hope it doesn't end up hard bricked
But before you do ANYTHING, can you go into recovery mode (vol. up+home+power)? If so try to wipe user data and cache.
If that doesn't work, try to normally turn on, and if it bootloops, remove the battery.
PS : I am not liable to any damage that may occur Although I've tested myself and all went OK (With KH3, but it's mainly the same thing )
yeah i know where to put them. I can't enter recovery though. It just loops on boot screen. Will this be a problem if i can't wipe data?

I'm sorry to say this, but I think your GSII is hard bricked... Try to flash another 2 times, the same thing.
What it seems is that the NAND got corrupted somehow... And isn't letting ODIN flash properly...
Just tried another couple of times and still no good.

The last thing that comes to mind is... To flash a stock kernel (preferably KI3 Stock Kernel) from Intratech's thread. If successful, flash the the recovery package again. If unsuccessful, as a last resort, flash the old bootloader provided in his thread aswell (follow his instructions!), and if successful, flash the KI3 package I gave you again. That may screw up the GSII's mind and make it work
As it is unfortunately hard bricked, I'm giving out all options that come to my mind
De nada ! I wish you a joyful new year aswell
In a less confusing manner :
1. Flash KI3 Stock Kernel from Intratech'a thread.
2. Flash Recovery package
3. If recovery package is not flashed, re flash the stock kernel
4. Flash old bootloader provided in the same thread
5. If it boots, then yay. If not :
6. Re flash the recovery package.
With that "guide", I want to exploit the fact that you can root a kernel, so if you root a stock kernel, you get lucky...
Also, are you sure you put the stuff in the right place? .PIT -> PIT, Code -> PDA, Modem -> Phone, CSC -> CSC and ticked Re-partition, Auto Reset and F.Timer reset (irst 3)
Yep.. thats what i did.. Screen shot for you in case you can spot anything? Defo kies not running as you can see from the screen shot.
The phone still goes into download mode though?
Use a different USB port on your PC. Try to use one of the Ports on the rear of your case and not the ones on the front or top of the case.

Hello i have recently installed ClockWorkRecovery and Rooted my phone. I followed this tutioral HERE Which seems to had have worked fine. I Checked that i had SuperUser and that it was working fine, which it was.
I then downloaded a Custom ROM, Automblast ROM (HERE)
I followed the steps provided
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Download the firmware from the link given below.
Put it to the root of your sdcard.
Reboot to CWM Recovery.
Select Wipe data/Factory reset.(optional)
Select Wipe Cache.
Select Install zip from sd card.
Choose the ROM zip file.
After the installation completes choose reboot.
Upon reboot my phone displayed the GT-S7500 spalsh screen, then it loaded my VirginMobile splash screen with the noise, and then started again.
Ever since this i have not been able to get the phone to boot.
I tried to use my backup i had made in step 1, but it keeps saying MD5 Sum invaild
I can still access download mode, and i can still acccess Recovery mode.
Odin3 still picks up the phone in Recovery mode, but when ever i try to apply the orginal Stock rom (From SamMobile) in Odin3 it seems to get stuck

Questions like this should be in the Q&A section!
But since you are new, I will answer this anyway...
Your phone is still usable, but it is the custom ROM that made it unable to boot...have you done a factory reset? If not, please do that and reflash the ROM via CWM recovery...by the way, firmwares from sammobile.com is only flashable via ODIN...if ODIN is still stuck, reset your computer...

When stock rom has flashed by odin each write is verified and if any error is found will be logged in odin textarea.
So, probably problem is not emmc.
The common cause to boot loop is data partition has been corrupted.
To solve is necessary format data partition.
To boot direct in recovery mode, use the combination volume_up+home+power.
Use recovery menu to issue the factory reset.

flash via odin
I've tried same as davidmartins but all failed w/ the same Odin log.
Initial rom on my S3 was I9300XXLEF (Hong Kong) and I flashed Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 Stock Firmware Collection I9300XXEMA2 after that it didn’t re-boot because of wrong ROM, if I try to get into recovery it shows the “Firmware upgrade encountered issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again” screen.
I tried also to re-flash the Stock FW but failed too.
Any further advise to bring my S III back to life would be highly appreciated.
Cheers.....LinChina

Does anyone have an idea what i should be doing?
Will I have to send it for repair?/
I bought this phone online. I do not know the history of it. When I got it, the phone was hanging/booting up to MetroPCs logo. I tried flashing it but it seems that I messed up more, even flashing the phone with the original firmware. I also tried flashing the 4 firmware files through ODIN. After many attempts, ODIN was asking for the PIT file. I downloaded the PIT (http://chomikuj.pl/zabrzesklep/*e2*...GH-T399/T399_garda.pit,4041671026.zip(archive)) and flashed it through ODIN along with the factory firmware but it did not work. Then I thought that the downloaded PIT file could have been corrupted. So I extract the PIT file from a second working SGH-T399 phone (https://techbeasts.com/2015/04/07/how-to-extract-pit-file-from-samsung-devices/). I extracted the PIT file and tried flashing the damaged T399N but ODIN gets stuck on the "Get PIT for mapping.." message:

Anybody?
This phone is completely bricked. It only allows me to enter to download mode.
I would like to fix the phone. I already have the PIT file but for some reason is not working. The phone is not entering to the recovery mode. Please help!
The phone is unsupported by Kies and Smart Switch.

Hello there. Here it is:

Hey Guys, I have not solved my issue yet. Help anybody?
Do you have the Tmo or Metro version? The first firmware you were trying is Metro and 2nd is Tmo. Edit: Sorry, just saw the CSC which mentioned Tmo but the other stuff references Metro.
You can also just try to Odin a custom recovery (recommend TWRP) then install a custom rom and see if that gets you booting at least.

Hello there and thank you for replying! I have the SGH-T399N MetroPCS version. I tried installing anything but phone always says "No Pit". Again, I also tried the PIT file. I go the PIT out of a working SGH-T399N.
Most Samsungs don't need a separate pit file to fix softbricks. Not sure why the first file you mentioned didn't work. I'd try the custom recovery and rom method I mentioned and see what happens from there.

The phone does not enter in recovery mode. Also, I tried installing a custom recovery but Odin always says "No Pit file" even though I set the PIT file on Odin separate. "NO Pit File" all the time in any Odin flash
Weird. I've only worked on one of those quite a while ago and never experienced this so hard to say what's going on. Which version of Odin are you running and are you using it in Admin mode? I think trying to use the pit might have made matters worse...

I have tried Odin versions: 1.85, 3.07, 3.09, 10.7, and 11.1. When you say "Admin Mode", do you mean Administrator privileges in Odin?

Yea. What version of Windows are you using?
I am using Windows 8.1. I also tried flashing the phone on another computer with Windows 8.1 and I get the same error.
Try this one: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347823379
It's the update that came out after the one you are trying. Make sure repartition is UNchecked.
