can you guys help me....
I have read some tips about creating ICS ftf on the net.
They recommend me to update the flashtool to the latest update.
alot of new features that i don't understand....
just want to ask about "disable final verification check" when creating ICS ftf file.
what is final verification check used for?
why do we must check "disable final verification check"?
when i want to flash ICS ftf file, do i must check "no final verification" too?
sorry for my dumb question.....just need to satisfy my couriusity....

Well to satisfy our curiosity we have to experiment ourselves you can try with "disable final verification check" unchecked To learn things we have to take risks
then...consider this solved

What happen then? :what:
XDA Premium sent this message from owner of Sk17i
what happens if I disable final verification?
i also wanted to knw abt this .. i guess when we flash our phone ticking No Final Verification , a option comes after the phone starts as to Power Off or use the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36543362#post36543362
This guy says that without the tick, errors will be checked during flashing
If i dont remember bad, this it's said to be required from ICS rom (though, i remember that one time i flashed without this disable final verification)
Hope it helps
IMO it allows You to flash .ftf bundles not for Your device - f.e LWW firmware / kernel into SK17i etc. It's helpful when You want to root ICS without unlocking bootloader (cause there's a method where U have to flash old ICS build kernel, and not all 2011 MDPI devices got it, so the only solution is to flash kernel from other device). If there wasn't that option FT would give an error before flashing

That's interesting. Do you happen to have any more info about rooting LWW without unlocking BL? A friend of mine has got LWW and he cannot unlock BL but he would like to root his phone. I've been looking for some techniques in the net but I haven't found anything interesting.
Sure, source was at the sony forum, but they have removed it, so there isn't original thread any more. But there is something like web archive, so take a look here: http://web.archive.org/web/20120901012046/http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0

Hi,
First of i want to say that i am not from Ray section, i own a Xperia S, but my sister has Xperia Ray, i upgraded her phone from GB. to ICS (4.1.B.0.587) but didn't know how to root it, after searching i found this on Arc section. i tried it and seems to work on Ray too. So here it goes. And i take no credit for this work, all credit goes to the makers.. And i don't know if this was posted here before but if so MODs. can delete it.
This tutorial is for 4.1.B.0.587 only!
1) flash this via flashtool : ST18i_4.1.A.0.562_kernel.ftf http://www.mediafire.com/?gbs29dw3tzx765k (thanks to zstoichev)
OBS : you might get errors after the reboot, don't worry, this is normal and step 3 will fix that.
2) Root your Ray with DooMLoRD's tool:
Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings. Before you open the .bat file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
3) Flash the 4.1.B.0.587 kernel via. flashtool

4) Your done..

Thank you. I assume, it's also ok if the Xperia Ray is on stock ICS 4.0.4_4.1.B.0.587 already before starting your guide?

yea, it is ok.
Can you please upload just striped-down verisions of both kernels 4.0.3 (562) & 4.0.4 (587) (only *.sin files packed in ftf file)? In this case there is no need to DL 200+MB files wor me (already on ICS 4.0.4_4.1.B.0.587) so I only need kernel files in ftf not the whole ROM).
Thank you!

Could not flash 587 kernel
Hi, I've run into a problem that's just been driving me crazy.
I've essentially been able to flash into build 562, and then run the root (which works), but when I try to flash to the 587 kernel, I keep checking my version and it always says 4.0.3 build 562 (paraphrasing here).
I've converted the 587 kernel.sin file into an ftf and ran it, but still it does not work.
Can I get some help please?
I'm probably newbing out on something, but everywhere I search people keep saying "flash to 587 kernel" but there was barely any information on what to do with the .sin files after I got them. I just want to confirm that I simply bundle them up using flashtool and flash that file right? but that doesnt work.
Phone is xperia ray st18a, bootloader is locked on Rogers.
Thanks for any help.
I also wanted to add, for flashing the kernel, i've tried using fastboot(adb) but could not select the kernel yet.
My attempts are flashing with a full 587 build but excluding everything but the kernel, and not wiping any data, I am still stuck at 562.

hi.... i hv rooted my device ..... running on ics... but there are no changes on my phone at all....the settings to control cpu is not availaible... help
hello everybody,
I have been trying since yesterday to downgrade my xperia ray in order to root it. I first used Flashtool on windows but couldn't succeed and thought it was a driver problem, so then I used it on Linux but still the problem remains. Each time it seems my phone is being flashed correctly but when I turn it On and look at the properties it is still the "build number" 4.1.B.0.587
Did anyone already had this isssue? I don't really know what to do I have been following the tuto correctly but I must be missing something. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Try this
When u downgrade to 562
Yes Its still 587
Just root it
And install cwm
U can check on setting is there any update
If yes so that your device has been downgrade
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0
Flash only the kernel. 562
Install cwm with xpart (market)

You should have spent less time trying to downgrade and more time looking where to pst your question, there's a Q&A post which funnily enough is where questions go ... As for your problem, why are you trying to downgrade with the whole firmware? you only need to flash the .562 kernel in order to root it, takes like 30 seconds and you can flash the .587 kernel back again after you have rooted ... no need to re-flash the whole ftf file.

Thanks, the tuto i followed said that I should have seen the .562 written but here it says that it doesn't change. In any case I have been redoing the whole procedure and it's still not working..
@AllAboutTheCore when I say downgrade I intend flashing the kernel sorry.. I did it with flashtool using the .562 kernel then used the DoomLord toolkit to gain root access and then flashed again the .587 kernel as the previous tuto was saying. I don't have installed a superuser application and I have also downloaded an application from the market, Root Checker Basic, which tell me that I don't have root access. So I guess the procedure failed.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer to me, it seems the problem was from the toolkit I found on another tuto and it wasn't doing the work on my phone.
Is there a way to place this thread in the Q/A forum as suggested?

Strange, flashing the kernel, rooting and re-flashing the kernel works for me every single time
When i was rooted my ray
I am just flash 562 kernel
The phone serial its still 587
Rooting with doomlord tools
(usb debugging on)
The phone must reboot 3 times for rooting
After that check that there is apps called super su
After that go to market
Install xpart (open and instal cwm)
And then flash just ONLY the kernel of 587 not the entire rom

Welcome my friend...
When you flash the ftf file, in the Firmware Selection window (the one that you choose the ftf to flash) look at the lower-right part. You have to check the "No final verification" option.
You should be OK that way...

So I want to install a custom firmware, but this is my first phone with a locked bootloader so if you'd review what I've gathered about the subject and correct it, it would be grand (I've already flashed a different stock firmware and rooted it btw, but that as far as I've wanted to get until now).
I want to flash JB eXperience 2, and from what I can see this would be the steps:
Load up the rom in the SD storage.
Install a stock b 1.54 rom like this one with flashtool.
Root the rom using flashtool (I'm also unsure abuot this step, saw some weird stuff about rooting this version).
Install this particular CWM with the included bat (this is the bit that makes me a bit uneasy).
Load CWM and flash the custom firmware.
I'm asking because I've read stuff about replacing the B 1.54 kernel by the one on B 1.10 and stuff like that, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and also, the experience howto is made for unlocked phones so I'm a bit unsure and I'd really rather ask than have my phone bricked
thanks!
Do this
Flash B.54
Flash B.10 kernel
Root
Flash B.54 kernel
Install cwm
boot into cwm
flash the rom
reboot
thats it
simple

Hi,
I have tried the binary's method but it didn't work either. I've been looking all over the xperia u forum's but I didn't find a solution...
It appears a message saying:

win 8 should not be a problem if u have drivers installed. which version of flashtool u r using.
I'm using the last one: 0.9.10.1 64bits.
I think I have the drivers since when I connect the device, windows asks what do I want to dowith Xperia U. It also works with PCC. But when I used flashtool and I put the device in flash mode, when I connect, it appears a pop up saying windows doesn't recognize the device.
Is this normal?

The kernels where a bit of a pain in the ass to find by their own though.
hello guys
just a quick question
i have noticed that when you flash stock firmware via flashtool running in flash mode it gives you an option to flash kernel or not.
so that got me thinking
i know that with my bootloader unlock status as no i cant flash another kernel but what if we was to convert the file to a flashable .ftf file.
if this can be done i think that it would help out a lot of people and would also mean people with locked bootloaders can try jb or even kitkat roms, atm i want to overclock the cpu but cant on the stock kernel.
if anyone knows of any possible way of doing it please let me know
cheers
damian
All flashtool ftf files are signed by sony so if it is not signed by sony the device would abort the flash
Sent from my Xperia P using Tapatalk
As @AndroidNoob69 said. The files are signed by sony and passes a signature verification which cannot allow us to use custom ROMs as FTFs. This was possible in Xperia 2010 devices which didn't required the sign verification(or was easily bypassable) but this is not possible from Xperia 2011 series.
Cheers,
AJ
