just a quick question
i have noticed that when you flash stock firmware via flashtool running in flash mode it gives you an option to flash kernel or not.
so that got me thinking
i know that with my bootloader unlock status as no i cant flash another kernel but what if we was to convert the file to a flashable .ftf file.
if this can be done i think that it would help out a lot of people and would also mean people with locked bootloaders can try jb or even kitkat roms, atm i want to overclock the cpu but cant on the stock kernel.
if anyone knows of any possible way of doing it please let me know

All flashtool ftf files are signed by sony so if it is not signed by sony the device would abort the flash

As @AndroidNoob69 said. The files are signed by sony and passes a signature verification which cannot allow us to use custom ROMs as FTFs. This was possible in Xperia 2010 devices which didn't required the sign verification(or was easily bypassable) but this is not possible from Xperia 2011 series.

1. Can i downgrade to GB without unlocking bootloader? (with flash tool for example)
2. Can i flash custom ROM on my sola wihtout unlocking bootloader? (with some software)
And if so can someone guide me to how can i do it, thread may be?

1. Yes u can, with GB ftf file.
2. If u think on ROMs like CyanogenMod ROM answer is no, u must first unlock ur BL.
1. Of course u can, just download the file and flash it with flashtool
2. Some custom rom need unlock bootloaders to be installed, but another rom no need that.
I think if u want to install more custom rom, mod, root and etc, unlock bl is the best way

Guys, thank you very much. I succesfully downgraded to GB official stock ROM.
Now my last but very important question is - i dont like GB and i still dont like ICS (i downgraded only because of better battery life in GB), but i want to test some custom ROM (like AOKP rom posted in Sola section).
As much as i red i can not flash this ROM without unlocking the bootloader and installing CWM on my phone, is that right?
Actually the question i wanted to ask was - if i unlock bootloader can i flash custom rom with Flash Tool or i can flash only with CWM (which i dont know but i dont want to use)?

U can flash custom ROMs ftf files via Flashtool, for zip files u will need CWM.

I'm having troubles to root my Sony Xperia U ST25a.
I just unlocked the Bootloader *yay! finaly* as I read that it is needed to root using this video: /watch?v=x65ua5x4sMc
But when the Root part comes I'm afraid to use that files because my Phone Software Version is: 6.1.1.B.1.54 and I didn't found any kernel.elf files for this version.
Can someone help me with it not using ST25i way, or a problematic way (yes, I'm noob on it) to root my phone?
I really need to use LEDs-U-CTRL

Use flashtool to flash a stock ICS Firmware.
Root your phone:
1.Method Search rootable stock ICS firmware and kernel. Flash the fw, root the phone with Many Android by Bin4ry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31545627
Than flash the kernel.

As in the title.... I'm newbie with Sony development... My friend has SE Xperia mini PRO as a secondary device
He wants to update it to ICS..... I checked the OTA updates and unfortunately it says "you have the latest version"... Is the GB the latest really???? Surely no
So I tried to search the XDA and found the Middle East update with flashtool
I'm afraid about the bootloader issue..... Do I have to unlock it when I use flashtool??
I read everywhere that I must unlock it if I want to flash custom ROMs and kernels..... But this ROM is stock ICS with a TFT file "flashtool flashable"

Nope no need to unlock bootloader to use flashtool.
Just connect it in flashmode (turn off, vol down + connect) and choose flashmode in flashtool

You only need to unlock your bootloader if you're gonna install a custom kernel. So, no need to do so. You can flash it to ICS via Flashtool with an FTF file.

First of all to install custom kernel You need to unlock bootloader. Not every phone can be unlocked, cause it depends if Your phone's bootloader unlock status is yes or no. You can check this in service menu (in dialer tap *#*#7378423#*#* [ *#*#SERVICE#*#* ] ) and go to Service Info and Configuration. There should be rooting status.
It's also good to make .FTF files from Your ROM to use them in flashtool BEFORE any modifications. Just in case http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075736

my bootloader says yes. now i thought the whole thing witht the bootloader was for rooting. like i mentioned before i am rooted. i have already made a backup of my stock rom if thats what you mean by making my own .ftf file. dude where is the thank you button?
Nope, rooting Your device will give You access to system partition, but it doesn't allow to change kernels.
Backup in .zip is fine, but I suggest to make a .ftf. It will help You to "unbrick" Your phone if something bad happen (cause if it's problem with ROM U have to flash any working ROM anyway, but if U unlock Your bootloader SUS and PC Companion won't work, so the only solution is to flash it using flashtool). Also .ftf will allow You to revert software to stock one, with branding, customization etc. (if U would like to use warranty for any purpose stock ROM and branding are necessary).

i found that thread last night thats why i posted this question.
my boot loader says yes. i also flashed cwm using recoverx.
just to be sure. with my phone software the i mentioned above ^^. using lets say flashtool i can flash any kernal rom combination even if it .587, or for lets say or the wt19i?

No, not every combination will work And flashtool is used to repair phone, not to flash custom ROMs. There are some ROMs working on stock kernel (which U have now) - mainly based on stock .431 or .587 software. U can flash them using recovery (which U have now). To be honest I don't know what are the differences between wt19i and wt19a. But as a experiment (lol) I flashed baseband from SK17a into my SK17i and everything was ok. That's why I told U to create a ftf package, which will allow U to flash stock ROM if something went wrong.
So, for now:
If U would like install any ICS ROM (based on original Sony .431 or .587 compilation - You can try it right away.

im sorry i asked so much. as your aware im a noob. till now i only rooted/flashed a galaxy 5 (not s5). it was so easy.
i assume im going to use cwm to flash the kernel, am i wrong?
if not a tutorial link will be fine and ive got all the points. and this is one hard phone to customize. but i wanted the 1.ghz processor.

CWM is used to backup Your ROM and install custom ROMs. To flash kernel U will have to use fastboot mode, and it has nothing in common with CWM. Check this thread, 2nd post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874

hi again. sorry last question. i installed flashtool. when innstalling the flashtool driver i cant find LWW in the list.
what did this noob do wrong??? lol
If U'r trying to install one of d latest FT just install fastboot and flash drivers (2 last options as far as I remeber) and that's it.
Hi everyone, i just want to know if there are a software to convert img kernels to ftf kernels or if ftf kernels for Xperia mini pro exist, this question is because if so then we could flash any rom regardless bootloader status on our device and everyone with locked bootloader would enjoy benefits of O.C and Cool Custom ROMS just like xperia play does with its ftf kernels.

You got it all wrong. The only way to Flash a Custom Kernel is to Unlock your Bootloader first. The reason I converted .img files into .ftf files is so that people that unlocked their Bootloader via the Test Point Method and had "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" would be able to flash Custom Kernels, because in this scenario they would not get access to Fast boot Mode but will be able to flash Unofficial Firmware via FlashTool.
I do not have the Xperia Mini Pro, so if anyone wants to test a FTF kernel for it here it is:

did you convert it or did you find it somewhere, if you convert it would you tell me how you did it?, and thank you for your work converting img to ftf for xperia because thanks to you i'm using Xperia Play Z by Mark, i tried to convert his kernel but it does not work to me (it gave me bootloop) but with his kernel converted by you i finally did it.

I Converted it. I used the same method that's for the Xperia Play. That is why i want some one to test if it works.

I tried it today and it does not work, :crying: for one moment i thought it will flash but no, i was excited with the idea to have custom kernel in locked BL sk17.

I don't think you understand the purpose of Kernels converted to FTF files. First of all Unlocking the Bootloader on any phone isn't exactlly the ability to use Fast Boot Mode but the ability to flash Unofficial Kernels(Custom Kernels),independently of being it done either with Fast Boot Mode or Flash Mode. So by Unlocking the Bootloader of a Xperia Play(Using the Test Point Method) with "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" you get the ability to Flash Unofficial Kernels(Custom Kernel) but not the ability to use Fast Boot Mode, and so the need of Flashing a Custom Kernel via another method arises and that's where Converting Kernels into FTF files and Flashing them via Flash Mode comes into place.
Now, I am not a Developer nor an Expert in hardware, but in theory this method should at list work on all 2011 Xperia Phones. If you would be willing to try this on your Xperia Mini Pro and it ended up working. This could help a lot of people(with "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No") not only the Xperia Mini Pro but all the 2011 Xperia Phones.
So if you want to help, try Unlocking your Bootloader using the Test Point Method. I also want to say that this could be risky since it only has been tested on the Xperia Play.

I tried it doing test point before flash it in flashmode with flashtool, you know, first test point->patch semcboot->flash ftf with flashtool in flashmode. I saw in a post a method to "be able to use" fastboot on sk17, since is my mother in law's phone this method is not suitable, so i'll try with your ftf but not in near future, maybe when i get one sk17 just for me. Talvez en las chacharas.
