I am using the stock Samsung keyboard that comes with the S3, and would like to use a language not included in the 37 languages under the 'input languages' menu/setting. Is there any way to install an additional language (Hebrew) to this keyboard without using a different one?
Thanks

My phone is still on preorder, so if you add install another keyboard, say swiftkey, can you use your preferred language, do the characters show properly?

Sort of a suggestion
I can't help you directly with Arabic or Farsi but i have enabled mine to handle Japanese, so it is possible to use other languages than Latin based alphabets.
My suggestion is that you go to Market and look for Arabic & Farsi soft keyboards. They will usually also come with support for the most popular Arabic/Farsi IME.
The other thing I suppose is that you want support for Right to Left text display? I am not sure if an Arabic IME will come with that support. For example, Japanese can also be written vertically with the columns going from right to left. I haven't found support for that in any of the IMEs. So it will be trial & error.
PS. IME = Input Managing Editor

thanks for answering ..
when i install the keyboards the words on messaging or the web browser in Persian language are shown with space between hem
any Idea
Have you checked in settings? It might have a setting for automatically using space to save time, especially if you mix it up with words in an alphabetic based language.

Ηello everyone, I hope this is the right section to post my question.
I have a Samsung GT-i5500 and have a strange problem. When writing sms, I cant change the text language. If I have selected english from the menu, I can't change to greek until I go to the settings again and change it to greek.
Is there a solution to change the language from the message application and not the settings panel?
Thank you very much.

Well, in this case I cannot be sure 'cause I used the stock rom only few days, but I take a look at the GT-I5500 user manual and it seems there's nothing you can do for this little but annoying problem, nor for Samsung keyboard nor for Swype, sorry..
Maybe you could look the Market for a keyboard app with such a feature, I think you could find it..
Or you could try Cyanogen..

I have czech language keyboard layout with 4 rows (1 row is with special characters instead of numbers) so will a bluetooth keyboard work according to chosen SW keyboard layout or is it already set as any bluetooth keyboard is?
Thanks
Answer:
so....have just bought usb host and wireless Logitech MK710 CZ (keyb.+mouse 3 years battery life) works perfect with czech special letters!
So it probably depends on the keyboard. So dont need to invest in a new keyboard
So Android has no competitors ....again
bump...im also interested in this
I have tried it with a USB keyboard but I guess it will be the same on the Bluetooth one. It depends what layout is selected on the Tab - if it is Czech then you will write with this layout. This however works only using Samsung's keyboard or Go Keyboard. When I have selected Swype - the typing is with US layout, no matter which layout was chosen.
Please, could you try Hackers keyboard and set czech language??
Thank you!

Doesn't work, sorry. The top row of the keyboard is typing numbers instead of accented characters.
So,
is there any way to type these characters? Perhaps changing smthin' in the system?
I'm afraid that a keyboard itself must be built for an appropriate language

No, this is software issue. Is there a Czech layout for Go Keyboard?
Unfortunately it doesn't have
So is it an android software issue or a keyboard software issue?
It is an issue with the layout, which is in the tablet. I would try searching for a keyboard for the tablet where you can make your layout - map keys to characters. This way you can customize your keyboard as you wish.

So it probably depends on the keyboard as it should be!
I bought the General Keys Bluetooth keyboard (http://www.amazon.de/GeneralKeys-Bluetooth-Mini-Tastatur-iPad-andere-Bluetooth-Geräte/dp/B004HKQ8V4) But it has only the english Layout on my HTC Flyer.
How can i change it?
Are you rooted? If so you might be able to edit "/system/usr/keychars/", other than that I'm not sure. If you install a different language for your keyboard does it switch the character set?

I am not rooted but i'm not afraid of doing if it will make the keyboard work But i have no idea how to change the "keychars" also if I'd be rooted, you might have to explain that to me
I already used the App External Keyboard (test version) but the only thing that happened was that now some keys (e.g. "s" or "w") start apps and i can't even write with the english layout anymore
MultiTap Wear Keyboard is a keyboard for Wear OS which supports traditional multi-tap writing and long-pressing.

I will be thrilled to hear your suggestions. Moreover, I can add new layouts to the app, as long as you can provide me with the details (characters Unicode, keys arrangement, etc).

Could you please develop a QWERTY keyboard as well. Please?
There are some good QWERTY keywords out there. What problem do you have with them?

Eh, not fully sure exactly what's needed... but will this help?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_(Unicode_block)
Maybe you want me to try to lay them in a similar style like you did? or it has some particular name so I'll search for it?

You can find an old phone with a physical keyboard, and send me some screenshots of its keyboard layout.

Can you type all the characters in the attached image here in the same order? It helps me to find the Unicodes easier.
Ok, I'll write each number with the letters on it:
2 - דהו
3 - אבג
4 - מםנן
5 - יכךל
6 - זחט
7 - רשת
8 - צץק
9 - סעפף

When I'm at a field that it is needed to type with a keyboard, I can use the Google keyboard, but when I switch to the multi tap keyboard, The multi tap keyboard does not open.
Hi, thank you for adding Hebrew.
But for me as well it's not opening now the keyboard unless I switch to the Google one
Sorry for that, please check the new version I just released.

There is been a change in the new API that broke a small part of the keyboard. I fixed it in the new version.
Well, I tested it now,
And it works mostly, I already forgot how actually T9 was fast, for a smartwatch it makes more sense than qwerty I think...
But there's 1 bug I guess, when something is typed already, the Globe icon supposed to turn into a delete icon and act like it, but what happens is that the delete works but it stays as a globe icon.
Another bug is (I think it happens now on English as well) the button to switch to numbers/symbols, it works but the actual view stays on the letters.
And on Hebrew, there are no big or small letters, so the button where it supposed to switch it, acts as inputting of something that I'm not sure what it is lol.
Another feature request (maybe it's not possible) add a microphone button for speach to text for the current language (I'm still hoping to be able to dictate on Hebrew to the watch)
But overall, it works great!! I can't even tell you how happy I am for this! thank you!!!
