Odd data behavior after downgrade/root. - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

After a few tries, I finally was able to downgrade my ICS Mini Pro to GB .58 root then to .62.
Things seem to be right, but a few odd things have happened.
1: Data connectivity seems to stop for no good reason. For example, I enabled GPS and data decided to stop working. Had to do a reset to get it back.
2: Lost data on my SD card unexpectedly, not sure when this happened, but it did.
Has anyone else experienced odd behavior after an install? Is there a way to determine the stability or state of a ROM install?
Mike

To perform tests about the functionality of software and hardaware features of your phone, you need to open up your dial pad, and dial:
*#*#7378423#*#*
This opens the service menu where you can perform certain tests.
About the problems you faced, I think you should perform a Factory Reset, to get things working perfectly as they should.
Thanks,
Rick
Hit Thanks if I helped in anyway

Thanks for your suggestion. One question, what happens if my phone is unlocked and I do a factory reset? Do I retain the unlock?

You can try and find out. .
There is no reason why your phone will become locked again. Since you say you downgraded you must have flashed a firmware which in all probability doesn't have the cdf number same as the one provided by your operator prior to unlock. So now your phone has the firmware of some other region. Now if you factory reset, you will find your phone in a factory state of the region whose firmware you flashed.
Thanks,
Rick

[RESOLVED, I HOPE] NO SIGNAL; Very desperate

UPDATE: So I just finished finals and drinking and have gotten around to my phone. I downloaded Galaxy S Unlock, but a beta version (it has a 'Signal Fix Problem' tab) that I was (and still am) and bit worried about. Well, my fears were quelled and I used it with an internet connection while on Bionix 1.3.1 and it didn't work on the initial reboot. Said the phone wasn't registering on the network. Didn't work on the second reboot. Didn't say anything, but data didn't work. I rebooted again and OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG it worked.
Glad to be back! Time for the latest CM7 nightly!

The quoted posts fully explain my issue.
UPDATE:

So I can confirm that the phone works for T-Mobile SIMs and gets 3g to boot. I relocked and unlocked my phone (both by manually changing the nv_data.bin and then with 'Galaxy_S Unlock'). Neither helped. In fact, Galaxy_S Unlock returned FFFFF as the SIM unlock code.
This leads me to believe that this is definitely not a hardware issue and definitely an issue with the EFS. I'm assuming that a proper EFS would not return a SIM unlock of 'FFFFF'.
If anyone has an intimate knowledge of our phones' EFS, please tell them that I need help in that regard. Or RIL, although I think RIL is in the EFS partition.
I'm on JFD via Odin and checked EFS Clear.

SUMMARY: I am currently bone-stock. JFD with root and nothing else. I usually get 3G (I live in the city) and excellent reception and speeds. Right now, I get good reception, but absolutely no data, nor can I call or text. It's stuck on GPRS and occasionally switches to EDGE for some reason, but it doesn't make a difference because I still can't call or text on either. IMEI shown in the settings matches that which is labeled behind the battery. My two fears are that the radio itself is somehow physically broken or that AT&T blocked my IMEI (tried other AT&T SIM cards and none of them would work). My SIM worked in other phones). Talked with an AT&T rep, he assured me that it is not AT&T's policy to ban IMEIs. Also, it may have to do with the EFS, but I'm not sure how to access it. Can't download ROM Manager right now because there's no WIFI around.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty desperate right now. I'm borrowing a dumbphone and it's absolute torture to text on a 10-key num pad.

MAJOR PROBLEM:
So right after I left such a sterling recommendation of this kernel last night, I started listening to some music, hit pause, left the ear buds plugged in, and went to sleep.
I awoke this morning to no missed calls, no texts, no emails. I was confused and looked at the signal meter and saw a small 'x' next to the bars. I installed the new CM7 (from scratch), and my signal problems persisted.
I just used Odin to get back to JK2 (Froyo) and still I have NO SIGNAL!!! I normally have full bars.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I don't know if everything I wrote is significant, but hopefully the extraneous details could help someone give better insight into this issue.

Definitely not the SIM card. It works in other phones. I just wiped everything on the phone using CWM and the problem still persists. My fear is that the radio may have been in full-use all night without my knowledge and burned itself out. Although I'm not even sure if that's possible.
Strangely, I received 1 text message not too long ago. Couldn't reply, however; and still can't make/receive phone calls or access the internet.
Anyone aware of a way to do a complete reset of my phone? I don't think CWM and Odin are doing the trick. It needs to be absolutely bone-stock.

A simpler way is to:
1) odin to JFD with Repartition and efs clear checked and auto reboot UNCHECKED
2) unplug and replug usb then load ''Eugenes Froyo'' in PDA
3) Load same 512 file you used for JFD
4) Uncheck...auto reboot, repartition, and EFS clear
5) Hit start
6) when complete unplug the usb and plug it back in
7) load JFD and 512 pit into ODIN
8) Check repartition, efs clear and auto reboot
9) Hit start

Ok, you got me there. It doesn't do anything. Auto reboot has to be checked. Otherwise it just hangs at SetupConnection...

Have you tried to flash another modem? or a factory reset? Have you toggled airplane mode and data connection? I had a very similar problem not too long ago. I flashed 4 or 5 roms and they all had the same problem. Flashed a few modems and nothing. Then I flashed one of Eugene's roms and it wiped my phone and it seemed to work after that. It could have been a coincidence, I'm not sure. I spent a whole day working on and it seemed to fix itself when it wanted to. Just keep flashing roms and tinkering and see what happens.

Thanks for the directions, but it didn't help
I've flashed many different modems. Tried KA7 and stock for 2.3; JK2 for 2.2; and JI5 for 2.1. Nothing helps. Does anyone know how I would go about checking my EFS partition if I had a root explorer? How would I know that it was normal? What symptoms would suggest a problem? I wouldn't be able to browse it right now, but I may be able to tomorrow.
@deadpass
Could you try a tad harder to recall which of Eugene's ROMs you used? I tried his JK2 base to no avail. Do you know if his 'Froyo that doesn't brick' is any different?

It was Eugene's 2.2.1 rom, GCR3.
Bumping. I hope everyone understands. Going from Android to a dumbphone (DURING FINALS, TOO) is terribly inconvenient and disheartening.
Looks like I'm giving up. I'm really busy with Finals and don't have time to learn everything required to figure out how to fix my phone. No one is informed enough about EFS or RIL to point me in the right direction. I've really enjoyed having this phone since August, and I'm definitely going to miss the ROMs and enthusiastic community. Not sure what to do now. I planned on keeping the Vibrant and selling whatever I upgrade to in August. Still going to have to sell, but I don't get to keep the Vibrant
Good luck with your Vibrants!
Before you give up, do you mind trying my Back to stock guide verbatim... it's in my signature. Would like some feedback. It certainly would not hurt. No reason I can see why we can't fix your phone.
Shoot, send it to me and I'll send it back if you can't find time.
Wait, so this will get you to stock JFD on the Vibrant... but you said you are on AT&T... are you unlocking it again after you go back to stock?
I do not do this, but first google result:

Hey! Kind of in awe to see you in my thread! Followed your guide ~10-15 time I had to flash. I've actually flashed via Odin probably 25-30 times since Saturday. Played with ALL the settings and your guide is good. No room for improvement!
Anyway, I've been using essentially the same procedure. Used Repartition and EFS clear on a few runs, but nothing different that I didn't intend to have a purpose. I used the files posted here; the MD5 sums check out.
People have been telling me it's a hardware problem (i.e. my modem is dead). While fully possible, I find it unlikely since I haven't seen a single dead modem post in any part of the Q&A, nor have I heard any suspicions of possibly failing modems. I could just be the lucky one, but again, that sounds unlikely.
Took my phone apart just to make sure all the connections are solid. SIM card board is securely connected to the antennae. Need to get an ammeter to ensure an electrical connection, though.

Thanks for replying. That's actually the thread I followed in order to pull the nv_data.bin and use Galaxy_S Unlock. But like I was saying, it's as though the EFS is not working properly. I pulled the nv_data.bin and it looked like the phone was already unlocked (I'm assuming it is, because it never asked me for the SIM unlock code). I changed the nv_data.bin to locked (by changing the hex value at 181469 from '00' to '01', after which it did begin asking for the SIM unlock code), then used Galaxy_S Unlock to unlock. I also tried to retrieve the unlock code using Galaxy_S Unlock and all I got were a bunch of F's, not what I was expecting.

Yeah, I did unlock it again but there's still an issue with AT&T SIMs. T-Mobile works fine, but AT&T SIMs don't work and it doesn't ask for an unlock code.

Flashed Liquid Smooth now SIM wont unlock

I flashed the liquid smooth ics rom and it wants me to unlock my sim. I know the code is the default. It wont work. I tried locking it to have to enter the puk code which i also have and no matter how many times i enter a sim it will not ask for the puk. I'm at a loss as to what happened never heard of this before...

Ok I did the factory RUU and tried flashing the MR2V7 liquid rom for ics and im still having the same problem of not being able to unlock my sim. I still have S-Off and wiped everything, i cleaned out the phone in every way possible besides wiping my SD card. The only possible thing I can think of at this point is that I am in Japan and I only use my phone for an alarm clock / portable internet in wifi spots. I am on deployment. So I can't get service with verizon here.
If that's the case I might be screwed lol I have ran into many problems rooting phones over the years but I have never had a problem with a SIM card before... this is stumping me.

Safe way to RUU and re root?

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a safe way to RUU and re root my phone. I messed with some settings in the *#*#4636#*#* menu (the bands setting) and I was told the only way to make the settings not lock me to the bands I check would be to RUU or factory reset.
My goal is to be rooted at the end of the day!
Any help is much appreciated
I may be wrong, but I think if you reflash a rom those settings will be reset. I don't think you need to run the ruu.
Hmmm, I'll do some poking around after work this evening and share what I read on the forums. I think these settings are stored on a part of the device that doesn't get wiped when flashing to a new ROM. Much like (if not exactly the same) as where the PRL and Profile information is stored.
You should be able to reset that setting by doing a wipe from the ##786# menu, assuming you're on a sense rom. (Ran into the exact some problem myself)
Just type that code into your dialer, hit the Menu? button at the top right, tap reset and enter your MSL and you're good to go. The phone will reset itself and reactivate with Sprint.

What exactly does this code do? Will this factory reset my phone? I don't want to do that because it might make me lose root, right?
If you're running a rooted ROM, it shouldn't make you lose root. I ran it many times on the Stock w/Goodies ROM with no ill effects. It reboots and runs a script that erases data/cache (basically a factory reset) as well as resetting all the Sprint stuffs, including that band thing you were talking about.
It doesn't touch system, so the rom itself and root aren't affected.

[Q] [HELP]Urgent Network problems!

Hey there!
Before anyone asks, I have done the following.
Searched on google/XDA for solutions
Flashed different ROM's
Changed Kernels
Wiped all cache
Did factory Reset
I am currently having bad network problems with my phone.
I am running JellyBam 6.7.0 with default kernel.
Baseband: XXLQ6
Problem
I constently get No Service or "Emergency Calls only" in areas that I've never had emergency calls in. I am not aware of my old modem or RIL, and so am completely lost of what to go from here as I haven't found posts that could help my issue.
When I reboot my phone, turn airplane mode on, or just randomly it will go into the stage above, to where it will stay without signal for 10 minutes up to days (I've had it go for 2 days with no signal). When I try to search for networks (In places where there is 100% a network) it will say "error searching for network".
I have no idea what to do, and am rather scared. There have been 2 emergency situations to where I needed a phone, and yet mine had no signal.
My second question, is if I manage to get it back to stock ICS (4.0.4) and do all the updates through KIES, will I get the original modem + RIL back as well as the ROM? Or will I still need to flash that myself.
TLDR: If I reset it back completely to stock ICS, will everything that I have done (root, flash modems, flash kernels etc...) be erased.
Thanks so much for reading, I've got so much stress rigt now.
Are you getting no service all the time or only intermittently ? Also, check your IMEI in settings/about phone to see if it's the generic one (0049.....), whatever you do tho don't post your actual IMEI here. Just a yes/know answer to the 'is it the generic one' question will do.
If it's a constant thing, call your carrier to check if it's been IMEI blocked. If it's intermittent, flash a stock ICS rom as you'd suggested. You'll end up with whatever modem/baseband is attached to the rom you flash, and yes, you'll lose root & the kernel you're currently running will be replaced by the stock kernel in the rom you flash.

Yes it's only intermittent, so not a problem with the IMEI.
So if I find, and download stock ICS to bring it to factory it should be fine? If I were to, let's say, flash the ICS onto the phone, is there any way to keep the RIL+ Baseband and flash back JB? Or when flashing JB, will it replace whatever RIL+Baseband is attached with the ROM.
Also, thanks for the quick reply. I was expecting days for a response.
Forget about JB/custom roms/anything else until or unless you get your phone working normally again. Flash an ICS stock rom for your region.
And forget about the current RIL/baseband. It sounds like it may well be the cause of the problems you're having; quite possible if you've been mucking around with different RIL's in particular. Pretty sure I said in my PP that you'll end up with whatever baseband is lumped in with the stock rom you flash.
Actually, you might want to stick with a stock rom specific to your carrier if there is one, at least that way you know the modem/baseband will more than likely have been tested by your carrier & is likely to work well with it unless there are other issues (carrier side connectivity issues or other problems with your phone).
As to whether doing this will fix your issues, no idea. At the moment, and in the absence of any clue as to what's causing your issues, it's the best option you've got. If it doesn't fix the problems, then it's probably a carrier-side issue (possible given it only happens at certain times/in certain locations) or a physical problem with the phone (less likely).

Yep. Flash the Optus rom given you're effectively using their network & see what happens.

Worked fine after a factory reset. However, Kies won't update my phone.
Network seems to running smooth, so we'll see how it goes. The more things I do, I guess the more things I can rule out.
EDIT:

That didn't work.
Anyhow, I managed to track down a 4.0.4 variant of the ROM I was using, and made sure the CSC, PDA and Baseband all matched up with what Kies wanted, and flashed it. I think the error occured I was trying to update a ROM with the wrong CSC and Baseband to one with the correct ones and Kies didn't like that.

[Q] Updated my ZTE Supreme and now the phone won't work?

So yesterday my phone popped up with an update. I installed it not thinking anything of it. Well now my ZTE Supreme won't work. It turns on but it will not connect to the Virgin Mobile Service and I cannot get the camera to work and it runs slow and when I go to click on an app the phone basically freezes. What are my options?

Was your phone rooted and / or modified before the update? Is it an official Virgin phone or flashed from another service? Please share the build version of the software update. But basically your 3 options are to factory reset, reload original system (after reset), or installing a custom recovery and custom rom.

I hadn't done any rooting to the device. Also I did a reset like 5 times already. Didn't help. (By that I mean I went into the setting and hit the reset button and it wiped everything.) That didn't work at all. Also this is an official ZTE Supreme I bought from their website about 6 months ago.
Where do I go to get the build version? I see baseband version which is N9810B01. Is that what you wanted?
I am getting really pissed thinking that my phone might be ****ed because of an update :/
Just thought of a possible issue with the data... See if you can update the profile and prl in the Settings. Most likely will be near the bottom above About Devices, or in About Devices. If that doesn't work, dialing this: ##rtn# is supposed to wipe user data and activation data so upon reboot should attempt to reconnect to Virgin services. As far as the camera, well, try clearing the caches of the camera and gallery in the Settings / Application Manager / All. As far as the slowness, I can't think of anything besides reloading the OS or a custom one. If the issue is in the /system then factory data resets don't touch that part.

When I tried to update PRL I got erorr 25606. Tried dialing that thing you suggested but I can't get the phone to come up. Just keeps freezing and then something pops up saying launch failed or something like that. Also, how do I reload OS or a custom? Sorry I can be a bit of a newb to this kinda stuff. I don't normally do anything to my phone other then the basics.
Oh I just got the phone to come up and I put in what you said and it says 'please input MSL... what is that?

You can try this app to get your MSL (also referred to as SPC depending on the situation) http://www.4shared.com/android/M8qqY_ge/MEID_Converter_052.html
But I provided links to both, the files you need, and the guide for how to install them. Did you not even bother to click on them?

I did click on them. But like I said I am a big newbie with this stuff. I have never dealt with any of this stuff before. Do I wanna download the system, boot, or recovery? (from the link you provided...) Also, I entered my phone into FTM mode but now what? I'm really sorry, maybe I'm just stupid.

It'd be best if you read through the thread and then asked questions afterwards if there is something that isn't spelled out somewhere throughout the thread. They aren't THAT long and you could learn a lot. This stuff is not rocket science, but it does need patience and reading comprehension. The threads there are populated by n00bs and advanced users as well, so there's a good chance someone has had the same questions as you do. The people on those threads will also probably be more likely to help as it's not a very popular phone and not much support for. xda doesn't even have a specific forum for it. But, as you start, you'll need a working Windows (XP/Vista/7/8/8.1) computer or Linux, if you're more comfortable with that for some reason. A good data sync cord. The correct drivers. You probably only need the system.img, but won't hurt to do the others to get a complete full restore.
