[Q] CM9 or MIUI 4? - Motorola Droid X2

when CM9 and MIUI v4 both become more stable. Witch one would you go for? I'm thinking CM9 but MIUI v4 looks promising...

I've always had a thing for MIUI. Just loved the overall snappiness of it on the Droid X compared to CM. I'd recommend MIUI, although really it's personal preference and what you want.

Had both on my old phone, cm9.

Given the choice between *official* releases of each (which we will never have) I'd go with MIUI. CM9 is bare bones and rapid-fire quick, whereas MIUI is a bit more feature rich.
Given the Alphas we currently have, well, I run Eclipse because both Alphas, while kickass, are just too early in development to drive daily (given my absolute necessity for stability due to work).

Cm9. I used to love miui a lot but when I really got down to the brass tacks of it, the only reason why I stayed on it was theme'ing. Cm just did more for me and my phone.
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2

well, I just test drove cm9 a little bit. It is much slower and laggy compare to CM7, I don't think miui will be any better considering it has even more features.
If they can fix the wifi connection issue on CM7, I will stay on it for good. interesting enough though, it seems wifi on cm9 is much more stable, so I may eventually have to move to cm9 once they get the camera working

I had just switched over to MIUI on my DX before it died and have ebeen eagerly awaiting a fully functional release since getting my DX2! Can't wait to give it a whirl!

[Q] Honycomb or CM7 or Something Else

I have been using the XDA forums for a while with my Motorola Atrix and now I have a Nook Color to play with.. I am trying to decide what I want to run on it and would like to get people's opinion on what they like the best.
Right now I have CM7 running on it and like it.. I get freeze ups from time to time but generally I am enjoying it.
I am interested in giving Honycomb a try but I hear that it has a lot of compatibility issues with different apps and am wondering if it is worth my time to give it a try.
What do you all think? Which do you prefer? Is there something other than these two options to try?
Give MIUI a shot; it's Android with an iOS coat of paint.
Honeycomb probably won't be worth it until after ICS due to the fact that google hasn;t released the source code for HC.Once we get some proper ports of Honeycomb out, i think Honeycomb would be the best.
CM7 is the best period. MIUI is just themed outdated CM version.

Cm7 gets my vote too, been very stable and turns your nook into an even more useful little device. Very neat
+1 for CM7. I was getting random problems running from an a-data card (Sandisk is usually recommended). I installed to emmc a while ago and haven't looked back -- it's been just about perfect. I had tried one of the earlier preview versions of HC a while back and it was not fun - very laggy and lots of compatibility problems. I'm sure it's better now but with CM7 there's little reason to switch.

I guess MIUI would seem a little garish compared to the stark, utilitarian dressing of stock Android.

Suggest a Rom for my Gtab

So I took the plunge and bought my self a Gtab, not too keen on blowing ridiculous amounts of money on tech, so for the specs and price tag the Gtab seemed to be the best bet.
Now I am fairly comfortable flashing Roms, I just would like some input from the community.
So whats the most functional and stable rom available currently?
CM7 has always been my go to first base rom for pretty much any phone I have flashed, but I dont quite like it on my Nook Color, its fairly buggy, but I blame the nook not CM7
but Hardware Acceleration sounds nice, and I know that none of the Comb roms have it, but neither do the GB Roms either right?
Looks like Clemsyns V8 is probably the best 2.2 rom out, but how is it in terms of functionality and compatibility with newer 3d games and other applications?
any other input would be greatly appreciated, I just figured I ask before I go on a flash spree, because it usually takes me a couple weeks of flashing this and flashing that before I settle on a rom and I didnt really want to drag this out that long. I just wanna flash, and use until ICS Stable Rom is released.
FrankenTab and Beastly ROMs are FroYo based and should have hardware acceleration, camera and video support. Plus, they are actively being updated. They aren't Honeycomb, and I still prefer VeganTAB 7.1 (even without hardware acceleration), but the FroYo ROMs will pretty much have everything working until a stable ICS version hits.
Sent from my gTablet using Tapatalk.
I've tried most of them at some point I guess it matters what you are willing to sacrifice. I love the look and feel of Flashback but no hardware acceleration, no camera, more ram used by the system ... (all Honeycomb roms are like that).
CM7 works great and I keep one gtab on it. MX Player has Tegra 2 software acceleration for video and most games and apps work. Has been very stable for 4 months, not buggy at all and looks great.
My other gtablet has landed on Beasty-Clemsyn. It is a Froyo rom, very stable and very fast with full hardware acceleration. I ended up here because everything just works like it is supposed to. Installed the new market, flashplayer, new version of VTL launcher and I really like it. It will hold me over till an ICS rom comes out.
FrankenTab and Beastly
I've been switching between FrankenTab and Beastly myself.
I think FrankenTab looks nicer overall but I've run across less issues with the Beastly rom and so I've settled with that until ICS is released for our G Tab.
Let us know which roms you try and your experience with them.
I am pleased that my FrankenTAB ROM has found its way over to XDA.
I would love to hear any issues users are having since we are actively developing this ROM (currently working on v1.0.2), but I cant help over here yet with an official support thread. If anyone needs help, you can PM me here, or google FrankenTAB and look for the original and most active thread for it on the site that starts with an "S".
Franken Tab is a great rom, I also went through allot of flashing trying different roms, soon the ICS ROM will be around and I am using the pre-alpha so what ever you decide set up for 1.2Bl and the latest CWM touch version. its coming n its cool.
Yup FrankenTab is the first rom I have flashed on this thing, and I am liking it so far.
-great wifi integrity
-fast as hell
-and the included VTL launcher is nice too.
plus having the ability speak with the Dev directly about suggestions and bugs is very nice as well.
If you want Flash to work well are you limited to 2.2 ROMs?

Flash works fine in 2.2 and 2.3 based ROMs. I have it working just fine in VeganTab GE 7.1.
From what I understand, it works (with caveats and quirks) in Honeycomb, and only with certain versions of Flash.
Sadly after messing with Franken and Beastly, I found my self at CM7s door.
Franken had me really really excited at first, it was fast, it was responsive, I only had it set at 1.33ghz, but there were a few issues with both that I found a bit to unstable for my taste.
Will see how CM7 holds me over.
I love 1.09 frankentab. It performs better then anything I have tried but is way behind brilliant corners in bench mark tests. I can't figure that out because it's seems 5 times faster in real life.

Hello,
I have had my Gtablet for about a year, and I have tried many roms.
FY,GB,HC,ICS,etc. Various incarnations. (Well, only 1 ICS)
From my understanding, Viewsonic, like many companies,
uses various suppliers for components, so the individual results with roms will vary.
And the physical build may vary. eg/ Volume (+) is actually (-)
(this is a reported build difference that my tablet has)
I seem to come back to Froyo roms for many reasons. Base platform OS.
Hardware acceleration. Stability. Etc.
Personally, I haven't found a newer gen rom that works as well as Froyo.
As stated on this and other sites, Be sure you follow the recomended
procedures for pre and post install. usually posted in the OP.
Really get to know and understand NVflash.
I always come back to the C+C rom final version. Beasty, although nice,
wouldn't do what C+C does for me.
I use my tablet as much, if not more than I use my PC, and I can run Splashtop
to access my pc, which is cool.
I do find certain games or apps that wont work, but, I am patient.
No problems with google apps.
It really comes down to researching, and testing, and finding out
the best rom for you and your tablet.
After all, this support, is almost free. Kudos to the devs.
J.
sorry. this is on another post. hope that is ok.
I've been on FrankenTAB 1.0.9 for two weeks or so and so far one of the best Froyo ROM's I've tried. I flashed quite a few ROM's for the 1.2BL but this one seems to work the best for me at the moment.
I just put the ICS rom on my gtab, and it looks great. Installing it wasn't that hard, I did have to switch bootloaders to 1.2. The only issue is I can't get my external SD card to work. I love using chrome.
In ICS, the external sd card is not named the way it is in other ICS distributions...look for /microsd folder instead of /emmc or /sdcard/external_sd like you may be used to.
If anyone is already on BL 1.2, ICS is definitely worth installing. The only two things that I've found that do not work are the camera and microphone but for me both are non-issues.
Hello ive been using my gtab with tnt rom and it runs really good

SE ICS: A Bad Deal?

I've just been re-reading the official Sony comparison of their Gingerbread and ICS offering. This time I've had the chance to read more properly all the things they said. For the first time I actually have sympathy for Sony. The manufacturers bring out phones (e.g. SE) with the Xperias 2011 all running Gingerbread from the very start, then the next Google upgrade wipes out the phones. I owned the 2010 X10 Mini and our phone got wiped out the same way. It seems to me that we consumers do not benefit. Anyone who comes to this forum is already a bit of tech. nut, we are a very small population of the whole market, of course we want to try what's new and hot. But in this blog, Sony is explicitly saying that ICS is much, much more demanding on system resources and that we will definitely see a fall in performance, they clearly reference longer boot up time, apps force closing and stalling as well as poor video performance for different reasons that they explain in the blog.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/...nical-differences-between-gingerbread-and-ics
Now I want to wait before I upgrade and check out the news. A few new icons and wallpapers is NOT good enough reason for me to upgrade. Better battery is a good reason to wait, which in that blog, Sony says you will get with Gingerbread over ICS. Do we really benefit here? Do we have to buy a new phone every year now, because Google is bumping up the demands of Android, like Microsoft did with Windows Vista? Windows 7 has less requirements than Vista, only slightly, and 8 has the same requirements as 7 so at least we could use the same laptop/pc for a few years. With Google, the way they are doing this is screwing us over I think.
For you, stay with Gingerbread, move to ICS, not sure or want to wait?
Ray users say they havent experienced any major bugs... Battery is definitely poor for now.....
Sent from my WT19i using XDA
I think on the minis and active devices we have the advance of having a smaller resolution area while having almost the same hardware as the other xperia 2011
Sent from my SK17i using XDA
They are really both very good points: we can look to the current Sony beta roms for more clues and it is true, our smaller screen being powered by the same CPU is an advantage. Perhaps we Mini users will have the least trouble amongst the 2011 Xperias?
Gingerbread would still be the most dominant OS, due to its stability on most phones,
having a new OS or phone is not always the best option.
I really thank the devs here in XDA, they are keeping old phones alive,
giving us a chance to have a taste of the new flavor and further improving stock OS on current phones.
I just recently read about the Xperia S Rom ported to Xperia X10 here, how cool is that...?
I'll choose the custom ICS rom.. sony and other manufacturer has done nothing but giving us all those bloatware while calling it "feature" rather than craps. + I see upgrade as change in UI, but sony's ICS UI has not change much compared to GB
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using xda premium
you can always remove the bloatwares , though of course with custom roms we can do a lot of things which are still restricted even with a rooted stock rom

If you want a different UI, just use a different home.apk? Just saying...
But yea i'm with the OP on these thoughts, have had the same thoughts for quite some time now. The thing is, we can make ICS faster on our devices just as we did with GB, but... How stable will the non-stock ICS roms be? Honestly I would rather see MIUI roms derived from GB as a base than ICS. A lot more stable with less bugs. Even the MIUI roms aren't AOSP based (as are official MIUI releases), they are FXP based roms. So, all in all we are between Stock and FXP releases.
I am not bashing on people working on developing MIUI and various ICS based roms, but like the OP, i'd rather have stability over "new features", such as full HW acceleration, which can be triggered using a variable in GB too (mind you that uses more juice).
I am going to seriously think about moving Spartan Rom from stock GB rom as a source, to stock ICS as a source.
Even if the battery consumption, which in my list of priorities for a fully functional rom is the highest in the list, is sub-par, I wont be switching over to ICS personally.
@drumraden if you see about other devices there are lots of stable roms are available (mostly aosp based, even I am using a stable custom rom for my Xoom)
We just need to give time to the devs to come up with stable ice roms.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA
You don't get my point.
The only reason to build an MIUI from ICS sources, is for the **** of saying its ICS therefore updated.
Yeah as for battery drain, I'm afraid Sony says on that site above that battery will be less durable with official ICS. What a shame. The discussion here though is really making me thing about all of this.
Yeah I am seriously thinking of going back to gb as soon as there is a good miui rom I am right now on ics because there is only one really stable miui release for the lww and it is ics but i really prefer better battery life.
On the other hand I prefer ics over hb a thousand times on my tab but it has like 7 times the battery of my phone so I have no issue with that.
I'll prefer ICS when main apps start to requires ICS.
While the requirements surround the GB I'll stick with it.
But it's nice to know that if it occurs my phone will be ready.
That's why I bought my mini-pro.
Personally, I will first give it a try. Then we will see, if it deserves to stay on my LWW or not...
yup ... sure will giv official a try ... but the best rom on gb wud be miui .... is that project still going on or has been dumped ?
i think lasan is still currently working on the GB MIUI port...

I'm running Kamarush's ICS version for sk17i: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434001
and that works like a charm. all features that I need on a daily basis, it's really stable, and it's super fast, so if SE say it's more demanding, than that's just not true. All the roms here are so much faster than stock, because here people care about the roms. it feels like the big companies just put something together but never care to optimize it. android's biggest advantage is the custom stuff.
I do feel sorry for anybody running stock software though

Photons ROMS pros and cons

Wow, so much JB out there, I got to update what I've tried....
1st up...
Paranoid JB
A very smooth rom with wonderful display options
The display settings is as robust as any out now.You could spend hours switching from phone displays. The desktop like display is something thay you could get used to.
The jellybean picture and youtube flickable widgets are my favorites.
the signal and data worked fine for me
The native gallery was choppy in scrolling, but camera front/back was functional.
I used video illusions for rec/play
sms fine- mms receive suspect
I think the apn settings were fixed in the 1.9.5 build.
CM10
Joker just keeps pumping. them out.
Him and Bill just ROCK!
Any way as they say ..
"pure cyanogenMod goodness"
CM 10 just makes you feel like your uptodate with the latest software.
We read about all the new devices shipping with ics/jb. and we say...
Oh I got that on MyMoPho! lol
You go to about phone and show your geek friends whar your running Android4.1
Its a wonderful thing.
Anyway, to me it seems more stable than jokers ics.
CyanogenMods interface is just one that I have come to love, since my OG Evo days.
The cm9 themes worked for me on jb (I'm a epic blues fan")
The flaws need not be said concerning camcorder (same work arounds apply)
XenonHD
You know I tried this rom out and was wonderfully surprised.
The rom control setting was different but nice.
The cpu and voltage setting made it no need for set cpu.
I think it has a varity of elements ported from other roms baked in.
Its nice to have variety in this rom flashing world were in.lol

Did not know camcorder didn't work. Wow. Just tried it. My camcorder was drunk! Kinda lagged in the preview, then it crashed. Good thing I don't use that to start with. (And I hear a third-party app solves it... or was that just for Camera? The stock camera puts a blue tint on it, like the Underworld movies, but I use Camera Zoom FX and that's fine.)

agreed, did all that and That is the awesomeness of miui.,especially the text notifications and call blacklist built in .
However, I refuse to loose my Camcorder.
video illusions is not up to par.
and video play back is choppy.
And remember Quadrant scores can be improved by tweaks.
just saying...

lol well even using antutu cpu and rom toolbox to go from 128 to 4096 your not going to get 4000+ quadrant scores!! mayby all of that AND JOKERS 1.3 kernel...but th3bills ports are silky smooth and the paid video allusion (small price cuz motorola wont release camara libs)app works on my MoPho awesome! Its all preferance and i prefer no blur

[Q] Any idea then a stable version of CM10.1 will come

Any idea then a stable version of CM10.1 will come out? I'm really wanting to have that stock android experience but i want it to be stable and can be used as an everyday driver
The only issue I had with it is otg doesn't work.

I think we'll see the Google Edition of the HTC One by mid-July, and the ROM could leak before it's even released which should serve as a catalyst in getting AOSP & AOKP ROM's running at full steam.
If I had to guess you'll see full featured AOSP builds by the end of July, probably not Cyanogenmod, but AOSP none the less.
Fingers crossed HTC releases some device-specific code that optimizes the camera quality and if we're REALLY lucky, some kind of in-home audio driver solution that closely mimics Beats.

I personally think the current nightly is good enough to be stable.
It will come out in due time, but don't expect it by the end of the week, or even month. The current version is reasonably stable, but expect battery life to take a hit should you use it.
It will come with this http://m.cnet.com/news/htc-one-google-edition-its-real-and-coming-in-summer/57586184
