ICS Messaging App and Music App - Xperia Arc Themes and Apps

the stock messaging app does not show pictures of contacts with notifications...i tried the AOSP messaging app, it showed pictures but thats slower compared to the stock, so i want to know if theres a way to get pictures with SMS notifications using the stock app.
Also, the music player in ICS shows really bad quality album art, unlike GB which showed it in very good quality, again, is there any way to get good quality art with the stock player?
Im talking about all stock stuff, 431 firmware.

htc music app

since moving to 2.1, i've found that all the rom's i've tried have huge lag scrolling through the albums compared to 1.5, is there any way of fixing this??
No lag scrolling through the albums here. I am using VR12 with kernel from here @ 691/160.
Which ROM are you using?
Have 8GB of music on my Hero. I have no lag at all on the HTC Music player.
I'm using ChocolateEclair 1.1r2 at the moment, but i have never seen this problem in any 2.1 ROM's I've tested.
How much music do you currently have on your phone? and what ROM do you use?
i'm currently using Kimera 2.1, overclocked to 710 also using the non-bsf kernal, all i get is scrolling lag through out my album. In 1.5 to get minimal lag when scroll through each one so the album art renders and once all is done scroll up or down was pretty speedy, but in 2.1 it looks like its renders photo's but when scrolling it just lags like hell. I have a good 6 gb of music on a class 4 kingston card
Alright, currently on my phone i do only have Rips of CD's that i have bought.
However, i tested a folder i had with only singles.
When i got over 20-30 albums, the music player started to lag. Seemed like it was loading songs..
Maybe the HTC Music Player can't handle so many album arts / different albums and all that?
You should try some different Music apps on the marked, and see if the same problem is also there.
its only a tiny problem but its annoying, I would love to move to mizing or something else but the lack of it working the htc lockscreen is a pain
Agree.
Maybe someone could create a Music Player that "steals" HTC's Lockscreen controls someday?
Would be awesome.
yeah it would be pretty sick! lol

Low Battery warnings/Restrictions on Camera/Samsung Music Player

Anyone know how to bypass this low battery restriction that stops you from taking pictures or using the samsung music player?
For now I can't do anything about the camera, but I use the CM6 music player if I'm below 15% battery.
I believe the latest update eliminates the camera problem, but I am not certain about the music player.
It does not remove either camera or music player restrictions on bionix fusion 1.0. I believe these may have to do with the apk coding.

The OTA, official JI6 update removes the restrictions.

Hm, they're still present in the bionix 1.9 rom. That sucks.

how to disable the Blur music app, only use Google

I cannot stand the Blur music app, mainly because you can't browse an artists songs by artist, only by their album (ie if I have an artist with 5 songs from 4 albums, I cannot listen to them in a row without going back and changing album, take up battery life). I downloaded the new Google one, like it, tho I don't care for the cloud part, but when I run it, after I've ended the Blur music app in task manager, it comes back on when I run the Google one.
If I freeze the Blur one via Titanium Backup, will I run into problems?
Also, anyone know if Blur is gonna update that? I do love their internet radio feature, I don't even use pandora. I like a lot on the GB Blur, just not the music app.

I have completely uninstalled it with Titanium Backup and has been using Music Playerpro since.
Absolutely no problems a week since removing it.
go into menu>settings>applications>manage applications>All>Music (the motorola one) and select clear defaults. next time you load a music file it will ask you to select your media player and you can pick Google Music and set as default.

Google Music Widget, sucks.

The title says it all, google has truly missed the ball on this one. Now I have looked with zero luck. So im guessing the answer is no, but is there some sort of alternative music widget that will work with Google Music? Googles is way to boring. (Come to think of it every single google widget is boring and plain) I understand there are alternative app, but I used the cloud thing.
Welp thanks in advance for any suggestions!

+1 the music widget does suck
i wish there was a full screen widget available.
But the 4x2 widget in CM7 suffices.
That's one of the main reasons that's holding me back from using the new google music.
Is there any way to change it, or let the big G know?
Not too happy with any of the music apps I've tried. Using DoubleTwist at the moment. Google Music didn't impress me too much not to mention it would take forever to upload my collection. Eyeballing Spotify but not sure I want to drop $120 a year on that service.
You have a screenshot of the CM7 widget? Just got my Captivate phone 2 weeks ago. Just rooted to get rid of AT&T bloatware and looking for an updated ROM from the stock FROYO.UCKB2 (2.2)
Seeing as other music apps were mentioned, a few examples are here: Android Media Players
is it not possible to get the widget from honeycomb? It's beautiful and it makes no sense to not have it in ICS
I agree, the single music widget provided with the Google Music app is terrible! And it's been that way foooorever.
I keep searching the Android Market every so often to see if any other 3rd party widgets have become available that will work with Google Music, but so far there's nothing I've found that has 100% compatibility.
The one I've ended up using is from the app called "iSyncr". I had actually purchased that app quite a while ago to sync my iTunes-based music on my Mac to my Android phone, and it turns out that the widgets that come with the app also happen to work relatively well with Google Music on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. The only glitch that occurs sometimes is that the widget can't show album art for some of my MP3s.
The iSyncr app comes with just 3 widget sizes: 1x4 and 2x4 and 4x4, and you can find them in the Widgets section of Android listed as "Music Ratings", after you've installed the app.
This is a link to the web site for iSyncr and it shows a pic of the 4x4 widget:

My preferred music widget of the past was "Pure Music" and it was awesome!! Unfortunately, the dev for it says that he can't make it compatible with Google Music as Google has not released the appropriate APIs for him to do so. Really, really sucks because the Pure Music widget is really customizable and has a lot of nice options to alter how it looks.
Finally, I happened to have a brief chat via Google Plus with someone that works on the Google Music dev team and he said that one of the larget requests they get is to update the widget for the app and to offer more widget sizes for it. He said it's on their schedule of "things to do" during the first quarter of 2012, so here's hoping they actually do update it!!! <crosses fingers>
FYI: Pure Music Widget has now been updated so that it's compatible with ICS/Google Music app.

This is what I'd been using as my music widget on my many different Android-based phones over the years but I had to stop using it when I got my Galaxy Nexus and found that it wasn't compatible.
Really happy the widget has been updated and I can go back to using it!
for some reason Pure Music Widget isn't showing the Album art from google music for me. I can see the title and song name but no album art. song plays smoothly.
any idea whats wrong?

I've noticed the same thing with some of my mp3 files & pure music widget. Looks like it has something to do with either the type of picture file used for the album art or how the picture file is embedded into the mp3.
Most of my mp3s display the album art just fine but all of the ones I bought from 7Digital don't.

How do I configure Pure music widget to play Google music?
Any news on google updating their own widget by the way?
as far as I know, NO WIDGET can pull album art covers from the Google Cloud...
which sucks, because the widget ACTUALLY WORKS even though the music player sucks, but I like my cloud storage just to free up room on the phone
Try Cube player its pretty cool but album does get mixed up when flashing different Roms.

[Q] Your opinion of the stock music player?

Was just wondering what you all thought of the stock music player, and why so many of you hate it?
I personally love it, it's very simple and easy to use. The sound quality is great.
I've tried powerAMP,etc. But I always come back to the stock music player.
I prefer the stock over PlayerPro, which I bough for my Motorola Atrix. It just feels more "intergrated" and functional. Love the status bar controll

I personally prefer the stock player, for the same reasons mentioned above. The specific things that I like:
- Notification controls
- Stock lock screen controls
The only dislike:
- No widget
I'm currently using Music Timer Widget which works really nicely with the stock music player. I have also tried the controls provided via Widgetsoid2.x and although they do work, the view isn't always updated correctly.
The stock player was unusable for me for two reasons:
1. No widget. There are a couple of widgets on the market that claim to work with it, but the only one that worked for me only worked sometimes, and was slow to respond and update.
2. It forgets the last playing position. This happened to me a lot, and turned out to be a deal breaker for me.
I switched to winamp and have been relatively happy with it (gapless playback and jumping to current artist or album would be nice, but I can live without them).
Dont dislike the stock music player, but for some reason it i didnt feel "at home" with it.
I dont like the look of PowerAmp but its my preferred choice (love how it downloads album art for me)
For me, the biggest problem was the lack of support for M3U playlists; all my other devices support them, so I had a number already made when I got the SGS2.
Playerpro + dsp 10 bands equalizer
You also have several widgets, lock screen replacement, shake control, hands free controls, skins and more.
For those using A2DP, the stock player is the only one that transmits song/artist data to devices capable of receiving it. It also supports shuffle and repeat that a lot of other players don't.
I usually listen to podcasts that lasts 30+ minutes or so.
The stock player doesn't remember the position if you exit.
It's fine if you're listening to a 2 minute song, but with a 30+ mins podcasts, it is more likely you won't listen to it in one sitting, but would come back to it several times a day or a week.
I personally use Ice Cream Sandwich - Google Music 4.0 ..
it has a nice user interface yo !
im using Poweramp - mainly cause i bought it for my Xperia Arc to playback .flac files.. and i like the App.. so figured might as well keep using it on the s2
i'm a stock music fan too, tried several but always come back to it,plain simple and good quality
The only thing I don't like about the stock player is that it forgets what I was playing if I exit it. Other than that it's really good. Samsung should do something about that.

Stock player is alright. But PowerAMP was worth just every single buck!
Functionality wise stock player is ok.
But when it comes to equalizer, I settled with PowerAMP.
Like PowerAMP for the following reasons.
1. 32Hz equalizer
2. Bass knob in addition to equazlier
3. Lock screen
4. Widget
