[Q] Kies not connecting to SGSIII - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got an issue with Kies here. I connect my phone and open Kies, but it shows 'Connecting...' and doesn't progress. I've tried opening Kies in administrator mode etc, to no avail. I'm using the stock ROM with CWM recovery + root.
I can access the internal storage fine, and Odin obviously worked since I was able to flash the phone with CWM. For this reason I believe the drivers are functional.
The Kies troubleshoot button opens a dialog asking me to unplug the device and hit 'start', but pressing start does absolutely nothing (unless you leave the cable connected, which causes it to complain).
Anyone got any advice?
Edit: Now after a long wait, it tells me that my device is unsupported by Kies 2.0. I downloaded it off the SGSIII support page...

No one has any advice?

Same here! I get "device is unsupported by Kies 2.0" =/

I have this issue and it is to do with the mtp driver failing to install I think. Looking on the internet it only seems to be a problem for people with windows 64 bit operating systems. I have a couple of ideas on how to get it to work if i get it to work I will let you all know. Can i just confirm that both of you are running 64 bit windows 7?

Try installing the drivers via the Toolkit found in the Dev section. That worked for me.

Well I have fixed it but don't know if this well work for you. Basically when I flashed my firmware through Odin I forgot to flash the kernel as well. So check you have the right kernel for the firmware you have flashed. Hope this helps you

Have you got the right kernel flashed or try re-flashing the correct kernel? fixed it for me!

I'm using a stock device. Only thing I've flashed is CF Root, which uses the stock kernel.

might be stupid but try a new cable never know i know with omega 4.2 kies is not supported which i am on but if your still on stock and tried re-installing the drivers as mentioned above buy a new usb cable worth a try for as not expensive

[Q] Why are my flashes with RSD Lite failing?

I have been having data & app issues with my Photon for the last couple of days. And wanted to flash to have a clean slate. When I try to flash any sbf I get the screen below. Pulling the battery and rebooting gets me back into the ROM, but looks like it didn't flash. I have tried different sbf, data cables, versions of RSD Lite. I am stumped, and hope the pic may shed some light on the issue.

Never seen that before, are you putting phone in rsd mode and is rsd coming back with an error aside from the norm?

Yep, I put the phone in RSD mode.

I might try to reinstall the latest drivers/motohelper plug in the phone, see if the drivers install on the phone, and then reboot the phone, and then try RSD again...i had some driver issues the other day, so check it out.

Good thinking, but still not flashing.
looks like it is getting stuck on the BP, it flashes the AP then the device reboots and flashed the BP. Try a stock rom

Honestly not too sure what to tell you, sure someone will pop in and help out. I personally couldn't for the life of me get the drivers to install correctly on my main desktop to get RSDLite to work right, but I tried it on an old desktop laying around and boom first shot it worked great, if you have easy access to a second comp I would give that a shot because it seems like your missing a driver set somewhere. Have you flashed anything through RSDlite before with this computer onto your Photon or is this your first attempt?

This is the first time flashing with this Photon. It's a referb I received a few weeks ago. My original Photon flashed fine.
No spare PC or laptop around to try. Could installing XP solve the issue, or win7 32 bit? My PC is running win7 64 bit.
Try 198_7. I had the same issues with 198_6 I believe. Switching to a different sbf fixed my issues. I also had better results on a windows XP box. In pure windows and not a virtual machine.

I did it/do everything with 32bit Win7, but don't want to tell you to go through the hassle of installing an entire OS considering it is just a shot in the dark as to whether it will fix it or not. Only other thing i would think to try would be putting the phone into RSD mode and plugging it into computer and see if Windows installs any drivers that way BEFORE trying to open up and flash through RSDlite.

Well flashing with 198_7 worked! But isn't that a leaked ROM? And where is the best place to download 198_6? Just never had luck with customs, stock + root works for me.

[Q] No OS, Computer won't recognize tablet. HELP!

So, first off, I went to flash the new CM 10. 1 nightly, but in order to do so, I had to wipe dalvik and cache (as you all know). However, somehow the wipe also wiped out my internal storage, and made it impossible to flash the new rom. It also wiped my old rom, so now I'm left with just the recovery (i'm using TWRP v2.2.0) and no OS. I've tried plugging it into my computer and moving the rom back onto the root folder so I can flash it again, but the computer (win 7) won't recognize it as a device. It's just in the "unspecified" section titled GT-P7510. I've tried mounting through TWRP and everything, to know avail. Help! How can I move a rom back onto the root folder to save myself, when the computer won't even recognize it as an actual drive?! AH!
Installed proper drivers of tab.
It will Connect properly.
Then you move any ROM to root amd install via recovery.

If nothing woks, I would think flashing via Odin is the last resort.
Btw I had problem with installing the right drivers before. Instead of trying to look for the specific drivers I have simple installed Kies which ensures the drivers are installed.

I've been working at this problem for 6 hours about now...Everytime I plug in the device to put the ViperDNA rom onto it, it keeps coming up with with an MTP, or MTP USB Device driver error failed...I cannot figure out how to fix it...any suggestions?

What about using "AirDroid" from the market and copy the ROM over WiFi ?

I can't even boot the phone...I can only get into recovery and fastboot. and those dont even connect right.
Well since your getting a SoD... you most likely have to reflash your rom. If you don't have it on your phone you will have to to a sideload install. I've never played with sideload but I am sure others will be able to help you.
Do you have the android sdk installed? Sounds like you don't have the right drivers installed. Get the sdk, open the sdk manager, update the usb driver, reboot the pc. You should be able to push the rom to the phone with Adb.
You need to be bootloader unlocked and have a recovery installed like twrp or cwm as well.

did you update cwm I have heard others not being able to find it once they did. Also did you get that SoD from updating to a new rom? if so it is most likely corrupt or the install didn't complete.

[Q] Superuser Access Lost !!! & Device not getting recognized on Laptop !!!

Requesting you to help me as i had flashed SuperluminalDad Rom 2 days back on my friend's Micromax A116 HD.
Everything was working fine gained superuser access after updating binary and also was able to run root applications, just 2 days later i tried to connect my device to my laptop running Windows 8.1, it shows:
"The last USB device you connected malfunctioned and windows cannot recognize it", so i restarted the phone but superuser access was lost as SU binary couldnt be installed.
Troubleshooting Already Done:
1- Restarted phone and Laptop
2- Re-installed drivers on laptop still couldn't recognize and also tried re-installing SU bin and superuser from CWM after disabling the superuser apk on-board.
3- Flashed the complete Rom once again from CWM but still laptop couldn't recognize neither root access gained.

Reverting to CRK1

I need some help getting back to CRK1. I updated to DRL7 using the Update.zip method, and now when i try to odin the crk1 files back it just fails after it says "Setup Connection".
I don't get an error Flash
I've wiped both in the phone and in recovery
I've tried downloading the CRK1 files from two different sources
Ive tried an "official" odin and a "modded Odin"
I've tried USB 2.0 port and USB 3.0 port
I've used CSC Home and NON Home
I don't know what the hell is blocking me, or if I'm doing it wrong. Am i just doomed to stay on this dead end beta forever? Biometrics stop working in the background and i have to restart my phone to get in to it without using my damn passwords (Apps too) and my banking app just doesn't work on it in General after the update. I even wiped it and reinstalled and I need my bank app.

Try flashing the new version of firmware that's been released instead of 5CRK1 try this one.

Also when it says setting up connection leave it alone it'll eventually go.. If it says fail then you know it failed otherwise let it sit there for awhile if needed.

The newer Odins did take 3-5 minutes to process and then failed when writing it. I tried CSC and Home CSC files and nothing has worked. I don't want to reformat again unless I know it'll work. People have suggested trying Windows 7 instead of 10 and running a vbox didn't work either. So, I'm not sure what to do if a Windows 7 PC at work will do anything differently but I have to try.

Try a different USB port and even a different wire if possible and yes I told others that, that's what I had to do I had to get windows 7 running in order to get back.. Also try using the patched version of odin and try the older odin's and new ones just keep trying different ones.. Another thing to try is to delete the .md5 from the end of every file so it just says .tar instead of .tar.md5 get rid of the .md5 part..
