Hello,
I searched for these informations, but I could not really find the right answers. So anyways, I have an Xperia Neo V and I want to flash a Custom ROM.
Here are my Questions:
- Can I do a Nandroid Backup of my current Setup (Bootloader still locked) and flash it back after unlocking the Bootloader (if I am not satisfied with any Custom Rom)?
- Why can't my CWM mount (and thus not backup) /sdext?
- What is the right way to flash CM 7.2? I just found some old solution with replacing some files from the CM from the Neo here. Does this work for every FXP release?
- How stable is CM 7.2? Is it ready for everyday use?
Thank you very much. Answers are appreciated.

well u can try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542115 (jj's hybrid) with ur locked phone and if u dont like it just use seus
I am going to unlock my BL hence these questions.
Sent from my MT11i using XDA
1a) yes you can, but you need CWM(there is one for locked bl's) and of course root,
1b) if you unlock it officialy there is need to restore firmware(didn't try but people report that), if you unlock it unofficially(with s1tool) there is no need to restore anything,
2)ok now I see you already have CWM but still, sorry can't answer as I don't use sd-ext. What happens when you run full backup, and at the end of backup when it comes to backup-ing sd-ext?
3&4- sorry don't use it.

I get an error saying that /sdext cannot be mounted. Also I was wondering why CWM cannot format SD card. With my LG P500 CWM had this option, also mounting /sdext was no problem there.
Hotboot the alliance kernel that can back up sd-ext and format sd

Hey guys,I own optimus one and I m used to rooting and stuff but my brother owns xperia mini pro so I need to install cyanogenmod (9 or10) whichever is stable.I had gone through various guides and stickies yet I want to be dead sure that I don't mess up my brothers handset. Its kinda new coz bootloader needs to be unlocked and also kernel image needed to be flashed separately unlike in optimus one.
Now I want help of you guys in the following manner like:-
1. My brothers mini pro is on ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and the rooting tutorial provided here for the said firmware
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 is not clear to me coz it says that first I need to install some kernel [only mini mentioned here] then next I need to flash another kernel according to firmware. Can someone explain what is being done in this and why rooting is so complicated in this.
2. Certain ROM's say that you need to flash kernel first using flashtool
My query is that all ROM's that I flashed till now on optimus one included kernel and I only needed to flash ROM zip through cwm.. So do I need to flash kernel everytime I flash ROM!! and isn't there flashable zip for kernel too!!
3. FXP ROM's do not contain things like what's working and what's not, it only has issue tracker so it become difficult for new comer to know the bugs in ROM. Can anyone tell me the least bugs cm9 & cm10 ROM and what are the bugs present.
4. Lastly, should I proceed like this!!
i. Root device (though method isn't clear to me)
ii. unlock bootloader
iii. install cwm (I guess I can do this using flashtool)
iv. backup current ROM along with kernel (for future use,I know its optional)
v. flash kernel using flashtool
vi. flash ROM through cwm.
I m a quick learner and I just need some guidance on this new device (double checking coz its my bro's device) . Looking forward for support. Thanks

You needn't root first if you want to unlock bl, just unlock bl and flash a custom kernel (in most custom kernels cwm is included).
Backup your rom and install the rom...
hmmm....
1. Unlock Bootloader........
2. Flash Custom Kernel (all custom kernel is per-rooted and have CWM).......
3. Boot into CWM and Flash CM9 or CM10 (factory format/wipe dalvik/cache).....
4. Boot into Fastboot And Flash FXP kernel for CM9 or CM10.....
xperia phones aren't like sammy, lg or htc where recovery is a separate partition from kernel. in fact, by default xperia phones doesn't even have "stock recovery" like on other phone. by that we integrate cwm in kernel ramdisk.
and to answer the question:
1- flash custom kernel mean't for your phone only, never ever flash kernel intended for other phone. and its done via fastboot and should be flashed before flashing rom.
2- like i said u can't compare xperia phone with other phone like sammy etc, its different. kernel must be flash via fastboot.
3- for cm10, bugs that i notice is slow accelerator, but fixable with some text editing, and non working front camera for lww and minipro.
4- should be like this, according to order:
- unlock bootloader.
- flash kernel via fastboot.
- boot into cwm.
- backup rom if u want.
- wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. don't wipe system partition or u will get error when flashing rom later.
- flash rom, and gapps if its cm/aokp/pa rom.
- profit :good:
thank you guys.... this made me clear...
one last thing :- which kernel should I flash on stock 4.1.B.0.587 which is pre rooted and have cwm after unlocking bootloader.I mean the one compatible with above firmware and also do I need to do anything with baseband or will it be compatible. After this m ready to enter the custom xperia world
Remember to backup your stock rom before unlocking the bootloader as everything will be wiped clear.

No, i just meant that backup up your contacts, messages, apps (can be done through astro file manager) etc, before unlocking your bootloader because unlocking will wipe your data.

Hi!
I'm new here and I have a question.
I have a Live With Walkman, locked bootloader, ICS .587 and rooted. I installed CWM for ICS through X-parts and made a backup.
Here my question. If I format system and then restore the backup, will I restore CWM too or have to install it again?
Thanks for answers and for all that I got here for my phone and for defy too.
Excuse me, my english is bad
AW: [Q] LWW BL format /system and CWM?
CWM should be there after the restore

if you try any ics based rom, then yes. In 2011 xperias you can restore the kernel, thats why you can't restore ics backup when you are on gb rom/kernel and vice versa.
btw: if you try some ics based roms for locked bl, then (i think all of them) is pre-rooted, but you must install cwm again. (As i was on locked bl and i tried jj's hybrid rom, then i must install cwm again)
Hey guys, I'm sorry if I made a mistake making this topic here. In case I didn't, help me please.

This should be in the Q&A section, and what is really good really depends on what you want from your phone. Not sure if you couldn't find anything, or didn't like what you did find...
Well, as I said, I want the best one, faster, less bugs, etc... As there is GingerDx v31 for x8, it's pretty good

No he doesn't, not for just a custom ROM anyway, and he already said he can't unlock his bootloader.
Start with this one, it's the last MiniCM7 by nAa which ran on stock kernel, based on Gingerbread 2.3.5.

Get this (ClockWorkMod) and put it on your sd-card
Put the ROM on your sd-card too
Get flashtool (It's in the first post in the x10mini dev section)
Install it
If you do NOT have Sony Update Service or PC Companion then:
Install flashtool-drivers from the drivers subfolder and choose E10i Xperia X10Mini
Press the Padlock button in flashtool, this will root your phone
Press the Swiss flag (Plus) button in flashtool, this will install xRecovery
Choose Tools - Reboot - Recovery - Reboot default recovery
On your phone: Choose 'Install zip from sd-card' - Choose custom zip
Select CWM-recovery-3.2.0.0-r3-x10mini-Amend.zip
Select yes
Reboot your phone and press the back-button repeatedly just before and when the sony ericsson logo appears.
Choose backup and restore - backup (This will back up your current system and data so you can get it back later should you want to)
Choose Install zip from sd-card - Choose custom zip
Select MiniCM7-2.0.7.zip
Select yes
Do: Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
In the advanced submenu: Wipe Dalvik-cache
Reboot the phone and enjoy your new ROM
(You will have lost all your user-data so maybe it's a good idea to back up at least your contact-list to sd-card, which can be done when you enter the contacts app and press the menu-button, it will create a file on your sd-card that you can import again later.)

Oh.. and I think you need to find Google Apps for Gingerbread too if you want the play-store, flash them the way you flash the ROM,
Okay, I'll do it tomorrow. Thank you a lot for your help.

There is actually a custom ROM that does not require a unlocked bootloader, it runs with stock kernel. It is called MiniCM7Pro by BPaul. Google it.

So,
i just rooted my phone a day ago and installed clockwork mod too...
i am a total newbie and don't know anything about this.... So i went searching for some custom mods for my sk17i or Xperia mini pro...
And i found one on this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102979
So then i installed it from the instructions given on most of the websites... i had a kernel of 4.1.b.0.587 on the phone and i don't even know much about flashtool...
Now the rom is installed or whatever it is but the UI has completely changed and it's not like the pics on the site... It's just completely black... And the worse part is that i can't even access my settings menu on the phone... So now i am blocked from doing anything... i cant even start usb debugging and take off the root....
please tell me some roms for the phone or any other way this can be undone...
Oh and btw i also tried installing some roms from http://get.cm/?device=mango because i thought cyanogen is pretty famous...
But none of them gets installed... and i even tried placing them as updates but no luck :crying::crying:

Hmmm...if i understand your problem correctly, you ROOT and install CWM on you Mango, then you flash custom mods...problem appears after flashing custom mods right????
Hmmm....okey, for you info, those custom mods are for CM10 Roms ONLY and i believe you haven't flash CM10 Roms FIRST before you flash those mods...you can't use those mods on STOCK ROM (GB and ICS)...its designed for JB rom only....No wonder your phone got black screen...you trying to flash some mods that isn't COMPATIBLE with your roms...you need to flash STOCK Roms back if you want to fixed your problem...
for you second question...did your phone BOOTLOADER is Unlock??? if is not then sorry you can't CM Roms without unlocking the Bootloader first....CM Roms mush use CUSTOM KERNEL not STOCK KERNEL and after Unlocking you Bootloader then you can flash CUSTOM KERNEL and CM Roms...

As far as I know, the kernel should be in the rom.zip (it's the boot.img). Extract it and flash it using flashtool or the fastboot tools
Otherwise search for a kernel for android 4.2.2 in Dev section and flash that one. Should work too
Sent from my Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2
One thing to remember is, before flashing a custom ROM or MOD, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP.
To be on the safer side, backup every week or so and keep the last two or three backups.

Your phone got almost bricked,No it didnt, First thing before installing a custom ROM clear your system, data, cache partition..did you do that?
ok so you have CWM installed..follow this exactly
Start CWM by pressing vol down when your phone starts up,Select Mount USB Storage under mounts and storage, connect phone to pc,transfer ROM zip file to sdcard then
format /system ,/data,/cache ,now select install zip from sdcard and select your ROM zip file from sdcard
Reboot System..
You should be clear now..
Hope i helped..
Regards..
PS :Certain CM ROMS can be highly unstable so i recommend checking out the bugs and everything before you flash a CM rom..otherwise ICS is always smooth and stable..and have got a lot a lot of mdpi roms on xda..thanks to devs..
EDIT: if u r on a stock kernel, then unlock your bootloader by following steps at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com then flash a custom kernel that supports JB..look over at the index thread created by predator at the dev section..
then follow my steps above..
DO NOT FLASH CUSTOM JB ROM ON STOCK ICS KERNEL.IT WONT WORK.

Hey,
i have a Sony Xperia Sola with the Firmware .10 and i wanted to know if there is any way to flash directly from this firmware to a custom rom, and is it possible to backup my things such as SMS history to get this right over in the new ROM?
Thx for all your answers.

You can backup all your data using Backup&Restore app.
To flash a custom rom you need root access and cwm (Make sure you follow the instructions carefully. Also, don't use cwm from another device except sola; Some root methods are universal but you have to take a look if they support sola and ics too)
Once you root your device, you can install cwm.
Once you installed cwm, you download the rom you want to flash (always be sure that's is for sola and not for other devices) and you flash it via cwm (to enter in cwm, press the volume down button once you see during the boot the Sony Logo; You have to press continuously the volume down button for 4-6 times.)
Before flashing the rom, in cwm, you have from the cwm menu, to wipe cache, dalvik cache(advanced menu) and personal data.
Notice also that if your bootloader is locked, you can only flash roms based on ics and gb, not those based on jb. (unlocking the bootloader, you will make you loose your warranty).
For any further help let me know.

Lots of backup apps on Google Play also if it's not a stock based ROM you are going to flash.

Depends bro. On my old Xperia U i remember that i had to flash the latest version of the official fw (because of some modem's drivers update) before flashing the latest FXP release.
Take a look at it
Thats why I wrote read the op, everything is there.
