My vibrant wont charge.. if i plug power it says charging but it actually drains battery.. not charging.. i even tried charging with computer and diffent charger but still not charging.. tried different battery.. but still not charging.. can anyone help me? thanks
I've had this problem too, where it says my phone is plugged in (the 2 icons popup in my notification bar), but it won't charge.
What worked for me was;
1. Unplug your phone.
2. Turn your phone off.
3. Take out your battery.
4. Plug your phone in (with the battery out)
5. Now put the battery in.
If all goes well, you'll see the little loading symbol after a few seconds, followed by the charging screen. You can then turn your phone on, and it should be charging!
Good luck.
rebooting is only a temp fix! i had this problem the rom u are running had a bad flash go back to stock with odin and reflash and it should be fixed! thats wht i did to fix it. BUT Make sure u got back to stock before u reflash
I restarted my phone and it worked fine.
Thanks for the advices but still it says charging but not actually charging. i went back to stock JFD and still battery is not charging is it a phone hardware problem?
edit : i even see a charging battery icon when phone is turned off but odd thing is first time it is loading then it reloads battery then the battery icon shows looks like its charging but i left it for few hours but its not charging..
did you wipe battery stats?
yes i did.. its just saying charging but not charging and drains battery..
You might have some debris or something in the usb/charging port on your phone. Even a piece of fuzz can cause misreadings. Try this:
-Take out your battery, and put it in the other room (other room is not necessary, but to illustrate my point, do not replace the battery until your sure its dry)
-Take an alchohol soaked pad, like for medical use, and use the corner of it to clean the usb/charging port on your phone. Be careful not to lose any of the pad inside that port. Also, dont use anything but alchohol to clean it. I remember one person a while ago who reported he cleaned his port with a qtip with most of the cotton stripped off and rubbing alchohol, just dont let any fuzz get loose if you go that route.
-When you are ABSOLUTELY SURE the alchohol has evaporated, replace your battery, and test.
Doing this is of course at your own risk, but it sounds to me like something got inside your port, and it needs a cleaning.
Best of luck.

If you have completely flashed to stock..... and your still having this problem.... you most likely have a hardware problem. I'm flash nuts and I've never encountered this
Br1ck'd is also probably correct..... this is not a software problem

I'm going to go out on a limb here but uh...... Hows your cord lookin' bro? Lol. on a serious note...... try a new cord and power block....... and wall outlet..... also I heard paying your electric bill works too. lol jk
its all good i have 2vibrants one for me one for my gf and its my gf's vibrant charger works fine for my vibrant but not for my gf's vibrant.. i even tried with my charger but still no luck.. searched on google and havnt found person with this kind of issue...
edit : its not charging again.. damn.....
Clean the port bro, I'm tryin to tell ya, it should work. I've seen it fix several that have been in a similar state. Maybe the battery contacts too just to cover all bases. The alchohol evaporates pretty quickly, it won't take too long, just be damn sure its dry before you put it all back together.

Hey all,
After being fine for almost 12 months, my phone has suddenly developed a bug. Nothing has changed over the last 24hrs, so I am not sure where it has come from.
It started with a notification saying 'activating USB will turn bluetooth off. Continue?'
There was nothing plugged in to the USB at the time, so I'm not sure why it came up.
I clicked 'NO' but it kept happening constantly until I reset the phone. Then when I turned the phone back on, the battery overheat sign came up. It clearly wasn't running hot, but it only went away after I removed the battery.
Then this morning after I unplugged my phone from the charger it said it was still on charge and the 'battery full' notification wouldn't go away. So I reset my phone, and again the overheat sign comes on. Take battery out.....etc.
Now it is telling me that it is on charge (it isn't) and that USB device notification.
Phone is running 2.3.6. Any ideas?
Possible USB port malfunction. Maybe try cleaning it.
Sent from my GT-I9100T
Second that.Clean the port with a cotton bud and cleaning alcohol.
Is Metho ok to use?
I might look up how to take the phone apart and give the insides a proper clean, rather than just poking around the port.
I'll await an answer about the metho before I give it a crack.
Thanks for the replies.
You dont have to take the phone apart
Quite a few people have had problems with dirt in the USB port its caused problems similar to and exactly like yours. All they have done is gone to the chemist,or pharmasy or however its spelt and for a few bucks you can buy cleaning alcohol. It must be this kind because of its high alcohol level it drys quickly and doesnt leave moisture inside when done.A few gentle wipes and thats all it needs.Dont take the phone apart cos the port is closed and it will be of no use.Meth is heavy and will leave alot behind drowning the port again.
I know more than a little about Android. I've been hacking and Romming since back in 2007. Last Friday my 3D started rebooting randomly. I tried everything I know. Reflashed different ROMs, same thing. Reflashed the aio 2.17 update. Same thing. reflashed recovery(twrp), same thing. Got 4ext and flashed that, same thing. I didn't know what else to do. Copied all the card to PC, reformatted and copied back, same thing. I had some clues, the GB ROM i was running (CleanROM Reborn) would sometimes report 0% battery. It also would almost never reboot on the charger,
I installed a fresh ROM (MeanROM ICS) and all seemed fine till it randomly factory reset while I was at a gig Sat night!! A week or so ago I was in Austin and left it charging in the car and went swimming. When I got back the battery was reporting overheat. I cooled it off with the AC vent and all seemed well. A few days later, I had a bootloop, thought it was the kernel and did a battery pull. Somehow I must have gotten something on the contacts or didn't seat the battery. I pulled the phone out of my otterbox today and cleaned the contacts and put it back in. powered it up, haven't had a problem since (knock on wood) I'm planning now to get a replacement battery in case I fried mine but only time will tell. I hope this info will help someone at least try the simple stuff first without all the headaches I've had the past 4 days.
This issue happened to my evo 3D : it turned off without reasons.
Sometimes, the battery icon became grey so impossible to see the battery level and few minutes after, it turned off.
One day, it turned off and impossible to power up. I sent it to the repair center and the issue came from battery and other components (contacts with the battery). After other comments on the internet, I'm not the one to met this problem so if it can help you I think that some evo 3d have this issue natively.
PS : sorry for the possible mistake in this message, my english is so bad
to fix random reboots, power off your phone to clear the cache, remove the battery for 30 seconds, place it back in, and power it up. Once it boots up completely, reboot your phone (don't shut down just restart). You should be good. This clears up the bad cache that causes rebooting.

Good post. Yes, I can see this happening for sure. My battery seems a little loose but I have not had this problem. If it turns out I ever do, then this would be my first guess.
I once had an Acura Legend that for no reason would just stall on the road and die. It was very irritating. One time had to have it towed. I had it in two different garages and neither one of them could fix it and told me there was no problem. But sure enough it happened again. The problem was intermittent.
I had it towed again home to my driveway. I'm sittin in it and thinking. For some reason I started jiggling the keys in the ignition and it would start and stall just by doing that. It was a bad ignition switch. I had never had one go bad before. I replaced it myself and all was well.
I went back to one the garages I took it to and told them I found the problem and what it was. The guy said yeah I knew that was the problem and said he told me so. I could have strangled the guy. Never happened that he told me that. They had even charged me $75.00 for fixing nothing. I never went back to that garage. The other garage I didn't bother telling.
Anyway, your battery problem reminded me of all that. Something I'd rather forget about. Thanks.

Yes that would be q normal fix. I tried clearing cache and dalvik AND flashed ROMs and the problem persisted. So far, it's stayed solved. I settled in MeanROM ICS, which I highly recommend btw and have had no reboots that I didn't initiate. I just thought it wierd that a hardware issue would manifest itself that way.
Freeza's All-in-one firmware update helped me as well:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21374142#post21374142
The OP has described my experience to a T. In fact I tried all of those things in that exact order.
I have always suspected the battery but I have tried moving it around in the compartment with the phone on and can't force a reboot. Plus, when mine reboots, the screen freezes for a few seconds, which tells me it hasn't lost power and is most likely a corruption or fault of some kind.
Since upgrading the Kernel I have had less reboots, but it sill randomly happens once a week.
This has been true for 4 different ROMs now.
I have other thoughts that this is either an app crashing the kernel or my cpu can't tolerate even default speeds. None of which I have tested yet.
So friggin annoying!

Yeah, the kernel has something to do with the random reboots too. I had it with some of the dodava kernels. It would happen after unplugging from the charger. I did notice that right before, there would be touchscreen issues. Lag mostly in sipping between homescreen panels or opening apps.

I cleaned the battery contacts. A Q-tip and alcohol to remove any crud. Let it dry, and put the battery back in making sure not to touch the contacts.

Yeah, I'm running proper firmware for my ROM. That was one of the things I tried when I was figuring out wth was happening. My biggest clue was radical difference in battery level on reboots and the system ui battery reporting crashing. I knew then it wasn't the firmware.
Hello everyone,
My sgh i777 (running one of the UCLE5 semi v# ROMS, can't remember which one xD, on siyah v3.4.3) is having a strange problem. What happened was, I put my phone on the charger on my desk, and my sister had a friend over and were messing around. Well I found my phone later in the day on the floor, and it seemed like it was more scratched then. It was still plugged into the charger at the time so I tried to turn it on. However, when I turn it on, the grey battery screen with the loading circle shows up for less than a second, and the screen turns off. Then it will do that again, flashing this screen until I unplug it from the charger. Not matter what I do, it will not get past this screen, and actually, after the screen flashes a bunch of times, you wil stop seeing the battery screen but merely a flash of light on the touchkeys and maybe the screen. I am pretty sure it is not a problem with the charger itself, and I think it may be a problem with the battery. However, my friend had an issue with his Droid (first one) where the charging port on the phone was broken and he had to use an external battery charger to charge the battery, and then it would work fine. To me, the port seems like it is not damaged, and since when I found my phone on the floor it was really hot, I really think the battery just died. I am also fairly certain that this problem is not a software issue, considering I have not tweaked anything on my phone for a few days now, and since it was working just fine before I found it on the floor. I would appreciate any feedback that you guys can give me because, like everyone else, this phone is my baby
Thanks!

Try pulling battery for a few. put it back in. try to get into CWM and wipe cache and dalvik.
Who knows how that happened. But if you have CWM or D/L mode, your fine.
I had this exact same problem on my phone (minus ending up on the floor part). I think it is from the battery overheating. Pull the battery and let it sit for a few. I had to let mine sit out for almost 4 hours before it turned back on. It may not take that long but i would leave it out for at least an hour or 2.
Thanks for your feedback! Yeah I left the battery out of the phone overnight and when I woke up I tried it again and it still did the same thing :/
I want to get an extended battery anyway (I think I'm going to order the qcell one) and if that fixes the problem that'd be great, but if it isn't a battery problem and it could be fixed now I would love to hear how so I am not out a phone until the new battery arrives ;D
Will your phone turn on when not plugged in?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
No it won't even show the battery screen when it isn't plugged in. It only does that with the charger. Also it won't even have the flicker of the touchkeys, just nothing haha.
Try to get another fully charged battery from a friend and see if phone will turn on, or if you have an external charger, charge up a battery and see if it turns on
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Ok I will try that as soon as possible
I tried a different battery from a different phone (although it was still a samsung phone and the battery fit right and everything) and the same thing happened >,< nothing would happen unplugged, but as soon as I put it on the charger, the touchkeys would flash, and the screen would flicker at certain intervals. Unfortunately I think this is a more serious problem :/

Same happen with my friend I9100. Power Controller gone. Only service center will help.
Seems like your USB ports are bridged. I had this exact problem. If you're under Samsung's warranty, send it to them and they'll replace it. If not, MobileTechVideos could fix it for you.... Though if you're on a custom ROM then I assume you must put it to stock before sending it out to Samsung...
I got it to work haha. Go figure the one thing I did not try fixed it. -___- I was reading through some other threads and found a guy with a similar problem and he said that he left the battery IN the phone but left it UNPLUGGED. Well I did this overnight and sure enough this morning it worked xD
Reading is wonderful!
Glad you got the problem resolved.

mine was unused for a few weeks too. I thinking its just the battery might actually go to a battery store in my city to get a new one.
Verizon
Haven't taken an update since the last kitkat one.
(No root)
Had been running crappy for about 2 months.....last thing I installed was Viber. I un installed it weeks ago.
No change though.
I've also experienced the thing smoking through battery.
Bought 2 batteries with an external charger. Think it was mostly the original battery was bad....
Still....Isn't/wasn't charging over night with the stock charger/mini usb...have been rotating the 2 batteries I bought, charged externally. But they don't last a whole day.
I'm 50 years old. I don't game or watch videos all day. Just text phone and some surfing/Facebook occasionally listen to music/I heart radio.
So, I've been putting off the inevitable hard reset, by running it in safe mode for the last few weeks.
Slightly better battery life, but, pretty useless in that mode.
Also, the wifi and blue tooth turn off on their own. Never leaving the house/range.
It wouldn't turn back on.
I don't have any of that stuff set up, to ever shut it off.
The only thing that fixes it is the 3 or 4 hits on my knee. I found that here somewhere. Honest. It worked. (Why would something that's Solid State respond to being struck?)
Up to this point the phone was never dropped on anything harder than carpet a couple times, wearing a protective case
.
So, I was going to download helium to back it up........so I rebooted it. To get it out of safe mode, for the trip to the play store.
It WAS working. ...had just used the phone. Was on wifi, reading about helium.
That was it......She's dead Jim.......
It has never made so much as a red light for the charger being plugged in. Nothing.
I didn't download anything. Haven't messed with trying to get the lollipop OS...
So........
Removed battery, sd card, sim card., charger port clean as a whistle, used with w/out different chargers, (the one from my samsung tab 10) held power 30 seconds, let off for 2, push again. (Some secret trick I found reading? ).... , held every button for minutes with battery out. ?..
Battery tested with multimeter. It's charged. Both of them are. Have tried both.
Not so much as a blink/flash/vibrate. ..
So from my extensive reading here, it might be my charging board? Something about a cap being bad?
Plugged into the computer I don't get anything. No charge, no acknowledgement it's plugged in by the computer (Win7, , get the sound and an installing driver/what do you want to do Window. Nothing).
I've got Kies installed. Been a long time since I used it though. But again, the computer doesn't recognize it's plugged in.
I only posted my experience because I have not found any others with ALL of these symptoms.
Sorry if anyone thinks it's a repeat.
I've been on here reading for 2 days now.
Pulling my hair out. Would like to salvage this thing. Don't want to get stuck in another contract.
So, , obviously,I'd like to get it running so I can at least back it up, and do a reset. And hopefully get it back to normal.
Also, is there a fix for this wifi/bluetooth thing, or am I going to go around pounding it on my knee every day? Pretty annoying.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. (Sources for parts)

my note 2 did the same yesterday.i was outside talking to my daughter, put the phone on the wooden porch rail.call came in,answered, put phone back.i am very careful with my phone.did not bang or drop itit was cold outside..i bring it upstairs and go return the call, and the phone is black.totally dead.i tried everything.changing the battery with one i know was charged, did all the button combinations, etc.most threads and videos, and i went through many, have fixes for phones that at least have an led light.this one is dead as is nothing alive at all.i tried to hook it to the laptop but its so dead, its not recognized.i am besides myself.its out of warranty and i am flat broke.if anyone has figured out a fix, please email me [email protected]
p.s-i warmed it up on the heater and now i am going to wrap it in foil because i dont know what else to do.this phone is my business and i am done without it.if i could at least save photos and contacts, call logs.this really sucks
