Potential contributor here. - HTC Amaze 4G

Hey everyone. I've been periodically following this forum since I made the "mistake" of purchasing the Amaze (I couldn't handle the display artifacts on the sgs2), and, at this point I'd like to offer any help that I can at making this phone a useful device.
I'm employed currently as a kernel/systems level engineer and could probably help those working with CM9/AOKP/etc. at understanding kernel related issues.
The catch is I don't really have the free-time/drive to dink around figure out how to pull together everything I need to build CM9. I've done a little meandering, and, from what I gather there's a large CM9 tree, some ruby proprietary blobs, and the kernel source as released by HTC for the GB kernel.
If a or multiple developers could simply spend a little time at writing a guide to compile CM9 I'd be more than glad to begin contributing in the free time I have.

Welcome, I'm sure the devs would be glad to work with you, after all kernel devs are in high demand around these parts and this community gladly accepts anyone that's willing to be a part of it.

Awesome to have you here Just the post made me happy!

Thanks for your offering!! Really, but there's always a catch!!

New Dev Team - RECRUITING NOW!!!

What's up fellow Evo 3Ders??
Let me first start off by introducing myself. I'm BThomas22x, and up until today, I Developed exclusively for the Samsung Epic 4G. This has obviously changed though, because today I got myself an Evo 3D, and will now be Developing for this device as well. If you guys need any credentials for anything I've done, feel free to go to the Epic 4G Dev section and just look me up. I've done numerous things for the community, such as: porting Ubuntu, Developing ROM's, Developing Kernels, and countless contributions to Mods and helping other Developers with their ROMs, and/or Kernels. I actually have a friend that came to the 3D as well, Sniperkill, if anyone is familiar with him, feel free to ask him as well. Now, onto the reason for this thread.
Since I will be developing for the 3D now as well, I'm going to need a team. I prefer to have people that actually have experience, however, experience is not necessary. To be completely honest, if you don't have any experience, I will personally work with you to start you out on themes or something simple. Also, as of right now, I do NOT have a team name. My team is Team Viper for the Epic, but seeing as how someone already has that team name for the 3D, I will have to think of something else. Once the team is created, we will, as a team, decide on a name, unless I think of something really cool before then lol . Anyways, If you are interested, you can reply to this thread, or you can shoot me a PM. Give me a little something you've done, or if you have no experience, let me know and we'll work on getting you started.
Thank you all, I appreciate the time you took to read this. Feel free to hit me up any time, even if you're not interested in joining, and you just have a question. I believe in having a strong community spirit, and maintaining a drama free forum. There were some issues in the Epic forums with people being demanding or just causing drama with the few Dev's there were, so hopefully this community is a bit more peaceful lol. The only rules that I have for the team are actually really simple. They're the same rules for the entire XDA site. If you use someone else's work, give them credit, as well as please be respectful of other Developers as well. This is a community, so let's work together and make one of the best phones on the market even better.
Thanks again guys,
BThomas22x
My knowledge of Android is nowhere near yours, and I have a lot to learn, but I wouldn't mind trying if you go easy on me

The force is strong within this one. Anyhow, my knowledge in regards to android development is poo, but I am thinking of self teaching myself.
Wouldnt mind helping out. I'm pretty good at theming, just learned how to make skins, and learning new things. Also know how to make splash screens.

I'm actually quite interested now. You seem like a great guy who's really willing to help out the less knowledgeable, I have a feeling this might be really cool to do
I am interested but my knowledge of android isn't that great however I am self taught computer builder/fixer and I have programed in Basic, C++, Perl and others probably not worth mentioning all self taught though (Right now my programing skill is weak as I haven't done any in 10+ years) but I am a super fast learner and would love a little guidance to give some back to this great forum.
I will happily join. I'm not much if a developer, but I want to learn more. I have designed websites and could learn rom theming, and with time can learn devoloping.
P.s. are u going to stick to snake names for the team name?
Sent from my 3devo...s-off was found lurking in the girls room, tricky?
I know very little and when I say very little I mean nothing lol. But I am willing to learn. If that counts. My profession is in It and system admin. Also I run a Pc repair business on the side. Self taught all the way. Only been dealing with android for a little over a year and a half. Started with my hero and now I'm on the 3d. If your team can use a guy Like me then I'm all in. I got time and dedication. Figure I can sleep when I die.
Locked & Loaded
I'll help, I guess. I know nothing fancy about developing, but I have made a theme and an app.
PM me If you want a noob with (possible) potential.
I dont know crap, but im bored with alot of time on my hands and would love to learn about cooking up Roms. Count me in.
I Haz 3D!
I've screwed around with kernels, ROMs, and such, but never actually built and flashed one. I'm still learning from resources on this site and elsewhere. I would love to help you out, and learn alot in the process. PM me if I could be of use. Or, [email protected]

I am extremely interested. While I don't have a lot of experience, I am teaching myself, with the help of a friend. I learn very fast. I am actually in college for Software Engineering. I would love to join your team.
Ps: Team Redline would be a pretty cool name. I was wanting to get my own team started and was going to use that.

HEY BT!!! It's awesume to see you developing over here for the E3D!!
Let me tell you guys this, BThomass22x is a VERY talented developer! If any of you know, he was the chief developer for viperROM for the Epic 4g. His Roms were FAST, stable, and very well themed! A VERY talented developer!
It's good to hear from you again BT!!

I am very intresting and would love to join! I dont have much knowledge but I am a quick learner
If you still need help, I'm down. I started on the OG EVO and built my own roms and themed them too, as well as compiled my own AOSP rom for it. I don't have much knowledge with Sense 3.0 yet but got a base rom last night to start ripping up and customizing. Also, I'm ridiculously keen on Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, so I could help with making sigs for the team or making cool wallpapers for the ROM.
It would take me a while to catch on to customizing ROMs for Sense 3.0 simply because I'm used to the OG EVO but would be happy to help.

not trying to be funny but I had to buy mine flat out if we get Scott one then we need to get MMuzzy one then Mike18xx then Fitsnugly then Romannbb then Peter Alfonzo then the Cyanogenmod team and whoever else develops ...... I seriously don't have any ill will toward Scott but a lot of the later developers spend some real time dealing with the asop source building it up just to be as good as stock and with more features that they have wrote from scratch that others kang into their ROMs but to take and decompile a nexus ROM with a kitchen add some things or "tweak" it just doesn't add up to the amount of mental labor that goes into what you would get from AKOP CyanogenMOD BuglessBeast JellyBro or MMuzzy's ROMs that are built from pure need to be compiled code I'm sorry if I'm coming off kinda hating tip but rebuilding from a factory rom most of the hard part is already done so if he can point out what makes his development different than what mine could be using the same source and tools I will gladly make a $50.00 donation toward his cause
You'd have to ask him that question, as I'm not at all versed in the language of Rom building and the inner differences one to another. What I do know is that he's done great work for the GS3 and I'm willing to support him for the Nexus 10. His roms aren't some half assed thrown together crap either. It's pure speed and stability.
From what I understand he also does work on the Nexus 7.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Don't get me wrong I know he puts a lot of effort into what he does and I'm not knocking him but when its all said and done with we all do this for fun as an expensive hobby, the only person who I heard got hired from all of this or their reputation is Steve Kondik (sorry if I spelled that wrong) and I still have yet to see him ask for a device but hey .... anyway I hope the best

[Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original HOX?

[Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original HOX?
Was just wondering if there's anything we can do to get some more dev's over to our HOX+ forum? Not that I don't appreciate the work that's already being done by current dev's.
i agree...especially to get some new roms our for AT&T models as well. im willing to help the devs in any way possible if itll get some fresh content out
This depends on what you are looking for and the devs ability to get a phone. The big AT&T issues is the TEGRA processor in the + versus the qualcom in the original.
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
a dev won't build a Rom for a device they don't have in most case's bud
Theres not many x+ owners in general so a small dev community is expected

Well that sucks since we paid a lot of money for a very high end phone and the phone only came out in europe in november so technically its still a VERY NEW phone yet it seems like the development community is for such a new and high end phone REALLY small... I expected a large dev community for such a high end expensive phone ... what a disappointed... especially when it comes to looking at the ORIGINAL development thread that's suppose to have aosp based roms and yet all i see is multiple roms being discontinued e.g. aokp 4.1 and miui rom... if things carry on the way there are and we keep loosing more devs than we receive the development community for this device will be virtually non existant ...
we need to do something about it... get some more devs from the Original One X thread over to the one x+ maybe chip in all together to get a popular well recognised dev over at our thread the way people did it for the viper x rom developers.... what you guys think?
AOKP 4.1 and CM10 got discontinued because of work being continued on CM10.1 and AOKP 4.2! we HAVE LIVES too, the amount of PM's i have gotten this week just because i went on a 4-5day holiday was horrendous! Either step up to the mark, help the dev's, or shut up!
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Also I just re-read what you said, seems you under value myself and max who have done a TON of work for this device!! You are just ungrateful! Quality over quantity every time
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Just to echo what Lloir said, if you think things could be done a certain way or at a faster pace........you could always roll up your sleeves and build it yourself!
Being on a number of devices and around this kind of thing for a while, I can tell you that if you keep on pushing and pissing off people like Lloir....you won't have him for too long!
It ain't nothing for someone like him to put his device on swappa or something and go develop for a device where the users are not as ungrateful as they seem to be here.

Here are my thoughts:
I think we have two of the *best* android developers in the XDA community (Lloir and Maxwen) developing for our device. The AT&T Hox+ has a not so friendly Tegra processor when it comes to development. Not sure if you have flashed the CM 10.1 ROM that Lloir and Maxwen have produced but it is rock solid for a "WIP" ROM. Something you very seldom see for a first release. Personally I am extremely thankful for the efforts these 2 guys give towards our device. Thanks Lloir! and thanks Maxwen for your kernel work.

Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Oh my God, all i was trying to say was that it would be nice to have a bit more variety in our Dev community, this thread i created because i wanted to find out if there was anything we the community could do to increase our Dev community e.g. Get the community all donate so more devs could buy a one x+ etc... And in the first post i did actually wrote that i am grateful to current devs... Lloir you have seriously mis understood my comment! Words can not express how grateful i am to you doing so much work for our device and not just you but all the devs... As for the statement of roms being discontinued, i didn't know the reason and I'm sorry ... I really am. Please don't think that I'm an unapreciative person because that couldn't be further from the truth

at first i must say i really believe he didn't want to seem ungrateful just like many other, but i think this is a problem, that is to be observed in many subforums of xda.
i guess this is mostly an iussue of missunderstanding what this forum really is.
in first place this is not somewhere to find lots of roms and tweaks for your exact device.
it's a place for development and sharing of it's results and we as users should do our best to contribute to the community as much as we can.
be it testing and giving feedback or for everyone who really is interested in extending the amount of choices: learn to get it done by yourself.
start with small steps like first java programms, simple apps for your device, theming and porting simple mods.
try to compile some kernels from git and maybe port an aosp based rom to this device.
learn how everything works, create by yourself, port, etc and share it.
and if you really don't know how to be helpful in any other way... just hit the thanks button and donate a little bit for something the devs have worked in their spare time.

ICS kernel port Question.

This might not be the right place for this, but is anybody working on porting an ICS kernel to the photon? I do not know enough programming to work on a port, but I am looking forward to something happening. The guys over at the Atrix forum are working on a kernel and are getting pretty far quickly. I do know that the Atrix shares some hardware with our Photons, like the GPU, which I have read is one of the biggest drivers that we need to have a proper working ICS or JB port for our phones. Well hopefully this will point some kernel devs to a forum that could have great benefits to the advancement of our phones. Thanks to any devs that may already or decide to work on this kernel.
Edit: Here is a link to their GitHub: https://github.com/CyanogenMod-Atrix/android_kernel_motorola_olympus/
Did everybody abandon us?

Kernel Devs Wanted
I don't think we've been abandoned. I saw that Th3Bill was on Moto's sourceforge trying to get the sources we need, a rep at Moto is trying to help us but they do not have a time frame yet. I also think that once the Atrix kernel is closer to being finished more devs will jump onboard to get the kernel going for our phones. Really I made this thread to get some devs attentions that may have not known about the Atrix development going on. Until then I am trying to learn some C coding and trying to make heads and tails of how the Atrix guys got to where they are. I've only coded in Javascript and for only about 2 years now, so it's kinda slow going, but We Still Have Hope! Also if I can come across a cheap Photon that I can dev on it may help out a bit, I can't really dev on my only phone.
Maybe some useful info.
A PM I got from lehjr over at the Atrix ICS port thread :
"Porting the kernel as it is right now isn't advisable because you may not know if issues are a problem with the hardware being setup slightly differently, or a problem with the kernel itself. We are currently only in a very early alpha stage.
Porting the kernel once it is stable should be much easier, but keep in mind that you will likely have to refer to device-specific references in the GB source to make the required changes, since technical documentation for the Photon and Electrify seems to be very scarce to non-existent, whereas we at least have documented teardowns and a nearly complete schematic for the Atrix as well as a serial out port from the JTAG port. "
I know that this is not new info, but for the programmers that do not know where to start I think this is a step forward in the right direction.
We're getting close. Well the Atrix is getting close.
I keep following the thread over on the Atrix Forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016837 and it looks like their project has come together. They have marked almost every aspect of their kernel as Completed. If we still have any developers that know how to modify a kernel to port from the Atrix to our Photons it looks like the time is almost here. The one thing they have marked as "work in progress" is the fingerprint reader which we do not need. Well thought I would share the good news with you guys. A fully working ICS would be nice. Cheers!

Call To Arms ATT Users

Right guys, this thread is FOR DEVELOPMENT only, and not asking for ROM "help"
This is for me and other people who are able to use GIT to assist with getting this damned device rolling, more people, the better. WE WILL get this done.
what the plan is.
WE NEED to use the proper audio drivers, not the one's the enrc2b\endevarou use. (Inter x+ and inter hox)
there has been "some" progress here, but i'm going to need you guys help.
Make pull requests for changes.

ANYONE adding me and asking for tech support will be given alot of abuse
