Can this be done using the STOCK gallery?
Sorry, please ignore.
I've tried using an app called Nomedia, then clearing Gallery cache and rebooting the phone, but that hasn't worked.
There's (PC) apps that embed the album artwork into the .mp3 (look for ID3 editors), that way you can delete the .jpeg from the folder, that should solve the problem.
Not sure if this will work for .ogg/.flac/.etc
Is there no elegant way to do this? Not being able to exclude folders from the gallery seems like a missing feature.
Another example of why I prefer quickpic to the stock gallery either in the s3 or in any phone I've yet owned

Just change the name of the album art pic to AlbumArt.jpg and gallery will ignore it. Plenty of play store apps are available to automate the process.

Wouldn't this prevent the media player from scanning the folder for songs though?

Is there a way to hide or not show each and every image file on my phone in the gallery app. Gallery app shows not only pictures taken with my camera and albums but also images from all my apps installed. Thanks
Put a .nomedia file in folders you don't want shown. If you're unsure what that means, search for .nomedia.
I suggest that you look for an app called quickpic on the market to replace the stock gallery. Once you start using it you won't ever go back to stock. It has the functions which you need.
Thank you guys, I'll try both.

Been using Quickpic now for a long time and it's the best there is.
I'm surprised Google didn't buy this app and add their own tweaks to it as the stock gallery app isn't up to much at all.
Start any folder name with a full stop and it won't be shown in gallery even if file explorer is set to show hidden files

Has anybody gotten the stock Google Gallery App to work? Or have a better alternative?

In my opinion, QuickPic is the best gallery app and it's free in the market.
Google's Gallery 3D works. The stock Moto gallery isn't actually bad if you use ADW or Launcher Pro to create a shortcut directly to the camera roll instead of that terrible landing page that shows when you open it normally.

Yes, I agree with skycamefalling - QuickPic is definitely the best gallery app and I've tried a lot of them.
I couldn't get the Google Gallery to install. Where did you pull the apk from?
I like QuickPic too but it doesn't pull in my Picasa galleries, and that's where all my pics end up.

I wish QuickPic supported accessing my MotoCast files. Til it does that I'm stuck using two applications.

Here's a Gallery 3D .apk that worked for me. Forget where I got it from, probably just searched for it once I realised the stock gallery was nearly unusable.
thanks! Worked great.

Does anyone have a hacked camera apk that allows you to link directly to gallery 3D instead?
Right now, if you try to take a photo with the camera and click on the picture, it says media gallery isn't installed. This is because i froze the moto gallery. I want to try and link the camera to use the gallery 3D for this instead.
Quickpic is my favorite gallery app.
I agree Quickpic is the best!
I prefer gallery 3d

I have another question which i find is not answered or I have overread: In the Folder "All Pictures" can I hide the pictures that I don't want to see? I have some apps and stuff on SD and all those pics are showing in this folder (and these are lots..). And is it possible to add a folder for the cam pics (so the cam pics are actually added when taken instead of going to the "All pictures" folder?
You can add a separate folder inside your picture folder (give it a name like "Private") with Astro (or some other file program) Inside that folder add another empty folder and name it .nomedia
Add the pictures that you don't want to display to the "Private" folder that contains the empty .nomedia folder.
Your gallery app will scan the folder, and any folder that contains a file with the .nomedia tag will be skipped.
The only downside is that to view anything in that folder will require you to either delete the .nomedia file, or you'll have to manually view the files in Astro or some other file explorer.

Hey People,
I have put a few albums on my phone, but when I go into the music player and select albums, its showing the albums twice.
Eg, Dr Dre Album, this option has a few songs, and the 2nd option of Dr Dre shows the rest of the songs.
I'm not good at explaining, please see the thumbnail below.....
I know that the files have the same respective album name.....
Does anybody know how to sort this?
Sorry for confusing you guys, and thanks in advance for your replies
I get the same but only on the stock Samsung music player, only a couple are as you mentioned but in my case the first track is listed as album then right underneath it is same album with rest of the tracks.
Poweramp doesn't do that, I thought it might have been a ID3 tag issue.
Can't see your screenshot, but have you checked that the 'Album Artist' fields are the same for each song?
For example, you may have the Dr Dre but one of your songs might have the 'Artist' as Dr Dre ft Eminem - you would need the 'Album Artist' to say Dr Dre for them all to show as the same album.

I get this on the stock player and also on "musixmatch"
The weird thing is, all the albums are showing properly on my Defy
The best way to fix it is delete the album from your device, open the folder on your computer, select all songs, right click on them, select properties and make sure everything is the same. Happend to me a few times when album artist was different for a couple of songs
Have checked all the tags (use mediamonkey on PC) & the tags are ok, only shows doubles in stock player, other music players display the albums correctly.
Did notice it appeared right after the first firmware upgrade if that any use.

When I transfer the albums to my Motorola Defy, it is showing the albums as they should

IMO PlayerPro is just as good, you just need to download the DSP Pack and then enable it in the app's settings...

I have sent an e-mail to Samsung, let's see what they say
I read a lot of manga and in any other gallery app I can't see the downloaded chapters but in the album app I can it's like the app ignores the .nomedia file? Any way to fix this issue

rename the file(s) and remove .nomedia at the end of the extension, like photo.jpg.nomedia > photo.jpg
Or if theres an empty file with the extension .nomedia along with other files in the same direction, this file tells the indexing to hide this directory from the gallery. Remove this file then or rename it and remove the .nomedia
You can do this with any filemanager.
I use ES File Explorer and Root Explorer for example. If the files still not showing up, try do a media scan with Media Scanner in many cases this does the trick.
No its not an extension it's just a separate .nomedia file but with a 3rd party galary app it's hidden how it's supposed to be >.....<

From what I can find, this is a bug.. It's not related to this phone, It's Android in general
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24162
A workaround would be to rename the folder containing the .noname file and the other files. Then renaming it back to what the folders name was before. It's confirmed to work for allot of people.
Thanks found a temp fix " the problem seems to be the MediaScanner, which does not start to re-index media. If you clear data via App info for Media Storage (Settings -> Apps -> All -> Media Storage), .nomedia finally has an effect. (All credit for this workaround goes to aelfwyne from http://code.google.com/p/ankidroid/issues/detail?id=910)."

This worked for me. Thanks.
absolutely love the album app from Sony except one thing, it ignores the hell out of .nomedia
it'd be awesome if a developer can mod it to respect .nomedia files or exclude/hide folders like Quickpic does.
the pinch in/out to view photos in Sony Albums feature is too tough to pass up.
I'm sure many users will thank you!

.nomedia works fine for me. Not sure if it's because it's on the external sd.

I also installed Quickpic and used the "hide" function. As long as it is on internal sd it is working well

heard about it ignoring again after a new picture is added so I shall keep track. so far a fresh picture taken doesn't affect it.

Don't need root for .nomedia just create the file. Might have to trigger the mediascanner again to get it to work.
Not sure what you mean about the ringtones. Do you have another folder on the external card with ringtones in it?

I mean Walkmann see the sounds of the App Fotmob and i can't hide this sounds/alarms, i cannot find this sounds with no root right?
Not sure about that one, never used the app. If you add a .nomedia to the folder though, the app might no find it too.
