Hi all, this is my first time here in SG Note forum and I have some question about the root and how to do it.
Q1/ There are 2 methods to root the phone, Da_G and mashi! in this thread and I think this post also for Da_G. Which one should I do?!
Q2/ Can I remove the root and install the original room again after I did the root?! (to not lose the warranty)
These are my question and I hope I can get help from you guys

Root question
I used the root method 4. b. from the second link in Q1. That one will not raise your flash counter, if you are concerned with possible warranty issues. After that you can flash CWM then what ever rom you want to flash.
I am waiting for Odin mobile to be compatible with the sgh-i717 Note before flashing a rom because it doesn't raise your flash counter either. Until then I'm satisfied with just root so I can rid my Note of bloatwear.
We have a flash counter reset now that braway set up for us. With this you don't have to worry about tripping the flash counter because it will put it back to zero.

i recently rooted, flashed an insecure kernal and installed Litening rom.. since then ive had issues with my handset and it is to be sent back to repair, so i need to unroot.
i tried running S2 Root v1.1 and hitting the "Unroot" function, however it just hangs on "Remounting /system to read only". i even had it run overnight 7+ hours with no success.
i need to send my phone back within the next 2 days and really need it back to factory standards before i do so, any help please?
You need a jig and flash a stock rom with odin.

Hi,
Does GT-P7500 have a flash counter?
If it does, is there a way to reset it?
I really would like to root my tab
Yes it does, but mine is still 0 and i'm rooted. It seems it counts only if you install unofficial rom with odin.
What would be best way to do it, that the counter stays zero?

I updated to KI1 using Odin and then applied the root.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089) using recovery menu.
Sorry for the noob question, but what is the flash counter for?

It counts how many times you have flashed unofficial software on your device. If the count is higher then 0 then Samsung will probably refuse to repair it under warranty.
Rooted
I needed to run the odin at administrator rights...
Now need to learn how to install custom roms
Thx

Just make sure you don't flash custom roms with odin.

You can Install custom ROMs using CWM. I don't know how to reset the counter.

How to find that counter?
*uses necromancer skill to revive dead thread*
hey guys,
since i was disappointed twice by the asus transformer prime, i'm thinking about getting a galaxy tab.
i really wanna use custom roms and kernels.. so, can someone please clarify the following things:
1. is there any way to reset the custom counter like you can on the sgs2?
2. do CWM flashes affect the custom counter or not?
thanks in advance!
is there really no one out there with an answer?
It has a counter. But you'll be good if you restrict to cwm.

Does flashing a custom recovery make the counter counts

How is reset counter?
counter ?? hmmm
a good piece of info....need it badly how to find the counter
On my GT-P7510 there is a counter that can be seen in the text in downloading mode. Flashing CWM and installing ROMs through CWM does not seem to affect it, mine is still at 0.
Ok, if I flash cwm the counter will stay zero...If I however flash back to stock recovery then what? I have read that the counter only increases if a custom kernel, not rom, is flashed. So does flashing stock rom (including STOCK kernel), from samfirmware.com affect the counter? Hope someone with more knowledge than me sees this. Thanks!

i just searched for reseting counter, too.
But its right, it seems not to count. I had installed various Custom Roms via Odin and the Counter still says Original Samsung and also is still zero.
you can find the counter when entering Downloading mode (Power+VolumeDown and than choose Download)
(P-7500)
I bought a samsung galaxy s2 today and rooted it with "odin" and "s2 root".
I installed the insecure.tar rooted it and installed original.tar
Then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4 and Rom Manager from the marketplace, I rebooted into recovery mode and tried out clockworkmod and it worked fine but whenever I reboot my sgs2 it shows me this yellow triangle again.
Did I do something wrong? Is my phone "bricked"?
Your phone is not bricked. It is not bricked if you can boot into download, it certainly isn't bricked if it boots normally. I like to be more helpful with noobs, and would normally explain the triangle, but I'm in a bad mood, so search yourself.

the yellow triangle just warns you that your ROM is not from sammy.
Just means that you aren't running an official kernel/rom. Nothing to worry about. To get rid of it either flash back to an official rom and kernel using Odin or use a USB jig and an old bootloader.
If you have no jig use cf's method: install the correct cf kernel, then flash the original kernel back, then extract the zImage from your cf kernel put it on your sd card, go into cwm manager and flash the extracted cf zImage as a kernel and your triangle will be gone. There are more detailed instructions on his thread.

Not the best 1st post
Welcome.
It's alway good to search before asking questions. The sgs2 has been discussed on xda for a fair while now so I reckon just about anything you would want to know will already be posted somewhere.
Don't know if you have already found chainfires cfroot thread it's the easiest way to root your phone and all the info you need is in the 1st few posts.

Hi, its incredible how helpful some people are...
Anyways, if your planning on having a custom rom on the GS2 learn to love that yellow triangle. Sadly thats the way samsung devices are design to annoy users of custom roms.

If you are one ICS, ChainFire made an app to remove the triangle and reset the flash counter.

Dont think anyone is trying to be unhelpful. People understand more when they have answered the same question many times or had to read it over and over again.
OP appears to be intelligent, rooted and flashed cm, all without asking so I'm guessing they were just having a moment.
BTW reading what has been written about that new triangle removing app before using it is vital unless you're happy to brick your device if you get it wrong or Samsung change something.
Anyway happy flashing.

New to XDA. Just wondered if.. like the s2 I can root my s3 without pc...
I think I done it by installing a new recovery, and flashing CWM, Busybox etc
With no yellow triangle. Is this method possible on the s3? Or is it possible atall?
Many thanks

Afaik not possible yet, just flash a CF-Root kernel you need with Odin (SU, busybox and CWM), download Triangle Away 1.51 and reset the binary flash counter. This is the easiest way.
How did you root s2 without a pc?
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
I think this is a great rooting method since it doesn't involve flash kernels making it a very safe method and you don't have to worry about Triangle Away etc
I did try doing exactly the same as this on my S3 but using the s3 version of CWM http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.4-i9300.zip but it fails to load the zip with a signature verification error which is a shame.
Does anyone know why this works on the s2 but not the s3. The s2 doesn't seem to have an issue with signature verification.
Probably because Samsung read through this site too... Can't make it too easy now, can they....
By the way, S3 doesn't have a yellow triangle anymore.
Just the binary counter is increated but it can easily be reset with TriangleAway.
Any clever person been working on this or know of a way?

I brought this subject up a while back when first came from Note and S2, we just need someone to leak a signed CWM like we got for other phones then we're good.
Hasn't happened yet though so who knows if it ever will.

It is a good method. Rooted stock is what I wanted anyway..

Any change on this? My computer is kaput and I want to root
hey guys i want to reflash a stock rom on my galaxy s3 because i have been encountering flickering/hiccups while locking and unlocking as i have posted this question before somebody told me to relash a stock rom and i have been following flashguide which i downloaded from sammobile my question is reflashing will void my warranty? and from where i can get the PDA,PHONE,CSC? or do i even need them?
If you read all the ops instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Letter by letter you will not go wrong
U need triangle away to reset flash counter, but you can search for that mate. I just Google search - triangle away xda. Adding xda to the end of a search will redirect you to the appropriate xda thread
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Officially flashing via odin voids warranty.
But flashing stock-fw doesn't increase the custom binary counter.
So this will have no effect...
This is exactly what I experienced with my S2.
