Hi everyone!
First off i would like to say Hello and Thanks to everyone on XDA Developers. Over the past 12 months or so i have been doing massive amount of reading on the forums in regard to my GS2 and now my GS3.
I have got the I9300T Version of the S3. There are certain things about it i like over the S2 but am still a massive fan of the S2.
I initially Rooted my phone through Chainfires guide which was awesome, Then when i saw the Siyah Kernel last night i flashed that and started messing around with the CPU Frequency and voltages.
I am not new to Overclocking, i have been stressing computers for as long as i can remember but OC'ing a phone to a PC are 2 completely different animals.
I am currently using SetCPU and using the default Voltages pre-set in the phone i managed to roll a 6392 Benchmarking with Quadrant and 14248 on AnTuTu Benchmark. I am happy withe the performance but wouldnt mind dropping the voltages just a little, which brings me to my question. . .
I am using an App called StabilityTest which i am using to check my setup after each alteration, can someone please tell me how long i should let it run for before i stop it and can be satisfied with the stability?
Thanks in advance,
Din
No one has any idea?

10 to 15 mins would be ok. dunno whether the inbuilt stress app in set cpu stresses all the 4 cores. but 10 to 15 should be ok

Yeah, about 15 minutes should be a good amount. If you go a lower than normal maybe 20 minutes.
Wicked. Thanks very much!

What's your stable max speed?
Related
I have the 2.1 siyah kernel and i left it in perfomance govener for a few hours by mistake is it ok too run 1.6ghz for a few hours stright
Actually SGS2 is too fast already and i see no need for OC at all
Anyway, i don't really know about that kernel, but i believe that at 1,6GHz it increases voltage which isn't too good thing and might reduce processors life time.

Unless you make 100% usage at 1.6 ghz for some straight hours, its not going to harm you and your mobile except your battery life
Heat is a cpus worst enemy. Also keep the voltage in mind when ocing. Your phone will only be running at 1.6 under full load so a couple of hours of max activity will get the phone hot and with heat come instability.

I dont know if it was running %100 cpu but it was at 1600mhz the whole time right now everything is ok but it seems to get slightly warm quick and runs 31 celius battrey but that might just be normal

What's the most battery friendly kernel?
I'm using nymphetamine.. what about you?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
In order to determine this one must flash all kernels and test each of them with the same ROM for a minimum period of 24 hours and then when they have finished that post their results.
For the record im using Franco kernel.
No doubt. Insecure kernel

I'm using postinthewrongsection kernel.
It's the ****.
Smh...
Seriously, nobody can answer this question and yet it is still asked 20 times a week, best rom, best kernel, best modem, whatever.
It's completely subjective!!
What is good for you might be **** for someone else.
As jonny68 said already, try them out.

Tbh i would recommend any custom kernel that allows you to undervolt, i.e Siyah
i currently have my phone running 100mv below stock and my battery life is better than it was stock
Uv is useless in s3 seriouzly. How much can u save.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Well think about it, 4 cores consuming 1400 millivolts each.
Undervolt by 100 millivolts and you have saved the equivalent current of 400 millivolts (100 per core).
Thats close to a third of the total consumption of one stock core.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Undervolting is pointless unless you are planning on overclocking and want to reduce heat.
Battery savings from Undervolting are about 2-3%
This is insignificant and isn't worth the potential instabilities.
Plus it's not even a big consumer of power, The power the cpu uses is dwarfed by everything else in the phone.

The CPU is still the largest consumer of power unless you have extremely bright colours showing on the screen. Plus the phone can be undervolted very far below stock settings as it is, so savings should be more than what you quoted. For gaming I'd say my mali patch would bring quite some advantage in terms of power, since the CPU lock is gone and ASV scaling on the GPU can actually take place now, Netarchy already included that into Ninphetamin.

Somewhere on XDA I've been reading about some1 testing high (nearly max) voltages against as low as possible voltages (but if I remember correctly it has been a single core CPU). His result of this test was that even with such extreme voltage differences he was not able to save one percent of battery.
While I'm not too much into CPU voltages and undervolting I can't say anything about it for sure. But I'll be looking for that article...

I think I know what thread you are talking about and I completely disagree with those findings, at least on the S2 I did proper measurements myself with -100mV on various frequencies and the power advantage was almost equal to the CMOS power formula f*V² on full load applications. I advise people to stop comparing such articles from different architectures as the Snapdragons or the OMAPs as they have different types of power saving states which influence the measurements greatly. The Exynos is relatively "stupid" in terms of lower power states and relies heavily on DVFS scaling so voltage brings a greater effect on the dissipation.

If you're so concerned with volts per core. Buy the North American version and run it on 2g lol

Probably you're right, as I said... can't argue with any of it and hopefully no1 takes my dangerous semi-knowledge as reference.

This is the same study I saw while I was using nexus s.
Tbh I completely ignored the fact that it was single core and different architecture when applying that info here. Oops.

So I got my s3 running stable at 1.7 I have noticed the temp went into the 80c range few times but I'm guessing a phone of this tech has built in throttling safe guards?
So is it safe to leave it like this for the rest of its life now. Anyone else keep their phone overclocked for day to day usage?

thermal safeguards in place from what I've read.
the life of your device might be shortened but hey should last 2 years at least .
me personally 1.2ghz I like having a battery last for ages.

I bought the game. Btw
When I play the game, my device heats up and just wondering if there is a app for showing the CPU temp. And what is the safe zone for the CPU? But I really need that app its not only mc4 but that my main question. I played for 2 hours straight, ended up with 12% battery and the phone felt very hot.
EDIT: for anyone wishing to find out their CPU temp, buy SET CPU and place the widget on your homescreen.

These games are really GPU intensive so my bet is you slow down your gaming. I mean take breaks from time to time. App, I don't know any but you may find it and it may need root. Plus do you have a case on? If yes then it is one of the reasons why your phone is heating up so much. Can you also specify the position where the Phone feels the hottest.
Hit Thanks if I helped you.

my phone heats up in the bottom right. I don't use a case, i am fully rooted and have a custom rom. i don't have any way to read what temperature my phone is heating up to but at a guess, i would say around 50 C or something i don't know My old s1 actually plays the game smoother than my s3!!!! i think the heat is throttling it. i haven't overclocked my phone.
The processor is at the bottom so it will definitely heat up there.
The best thing you can do is to take a break when playing for a long time. Don't charge when playing, turn power saving off when playing (works for me).

Knowing gameloft, the game is probably not optimized.

I'm having no trouble playing MC4 for many hours.. Charging just makes a little warmer than it normally would be. Something happened one time when it went really hot, but cooling it down and reboot, and nothing happened ever since. I'm pretty sure there's a monitoring widget app on play store, but there's a menu in SetCPU that shows current battery level and temperature.
Omega v34 with Siyah 1.8 kernel. CPU OC 1.6GHz and UV around 100~150mv for each frequency. GPU OC to 600MHz no UV.

No sh!t, gayloft basically hate android Nova 3 has better graphics then mc4 and that runs buttery smooth and doesn't make me heat up. Gayloft are simply apple fanboys. Even though android has more downloads a hour for mc4

yep will do, just a few last things, i modified the UV a bit. My phone started to crash alot so i changed them a bit. for 3 hours of gaming my CPU went up to 50C still kinda warm but hey, it quadcore. to keep it at 30C or 24C idle you would need a water cooler. LOL
Ah yeah. My settings are a bit low.. Stable enough but hey every device is different. Rarely felt my battery warm to the extent I go oh it's hot. Good luck with mc4.

Is it possible that force gpu rendering,in developers settings, may heat up a device faster while playing, rather than keeping it disabled?
Okay so I was wondering I have a galaxy s2 and right now it's rooted and running CyanogenMod. I'm also overclocking and it's been rooted for about a week now. What is the average battery life for the galaxy s2 because I feel like my battery is going too fast. If I play games in the car for 20 minutes 10 to 15 percent is already gone. Sometimes if I search the web for for 3 minutes I would lose the percent of battery.

Yes thats an overclocking disadvantage. Turn it back to default i.e 1200 Mhz and try using Sleepy or ondemand governor combined with noop or SIO as i/o scheduler. And find out the background apps like facebook which drain your battery. You'll find much difference. Hope this helps you.

I would suggest getting better battery stats app to get a better handle over ur battery consumption, i use this app currently and although i have not fully understood what the color coded lines mean fully, it has helped me figure out which app(s) consume a lot of battery power

yes .. thats well known when the phone is overclocked .. normally (default CPU settings) running custom CM or AOKP you should get around 2 hours of screen on time.
