Franco's Kernel for S4 Processor? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seen and am glad that Franco's Kernel seems to be available. But I can't seem to find if it will be compatible with the LTE Galaxy Nexus (AT&T). Being that it has the S4 processor. Hopefully if it is not then Franco will develop for that version too (once its released).
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He will only develop his kernel for the S4 if he receives one of the US LTE models. Unfortunately that takes money. Donating to him could help fund this.

Makes perfect sense. I may have to write him. See if I make a decent size donation if he would be willing to do so. He could be too busy to even want to offer support for it. I will say, I think the S4 GS3 will sell millions though.

[Q] are some of the devs going to the note?

i was wondering if some of the devs for this phone if they were going to the note?
I don't know, I'm not a dev, but I doubt it. Seems like more of a niche phone to me, and it has the damn Snapdragon. I hope that the next-gen Exynos's have LTE support- I noticed that even the Tegra 3 is being replaced for the LTE versions of HTC's phones for the Snapdragon S4... yikes.
Is the note carrying Exynos? If not, doubtful.

No, which is why very few developers are likely to touch it. (I assume the OP means the AT&T Note, not the original. The original periodically tempts me, but I've already bought one device off-contract this year.)

No clue - nothing on the market now. However, unless AT&T shapes up and stops mangling their devices, it's almost guaranteed I'll buy the whatever is the latest iPhone with my contract subsidy and immediately eBay it - only because the iSheep love to overpay on eBay. My next device is almost guaranteed to be an international device or the next Nexus.
It's too soon to tell, I think my next upgrade is early 2013.
I'm waiting for windows phone 8, if it fixes the problems I have with it...
HTC One X looks really good... even the AT&T version (with the S4 Krait processor).
Im waiting for the GSIII of course. Samsung and HTC are the only companies that are worthy of my money, but perhaps something awesome will turn up at MWC and make me think twice on that.
Like the LG Vu? Now that is a fine looking.... I cant do it.
On the other hand I also thought the One X looked pretty nice too, looks like they tamed down sense in sense 4. Huawei and ZTE showed some cool phones. And Asus showed the padphone again. If it ever ships that could be cool.
But like entropy, I don't qualify until 2013, so I'm not looking too hard at any of these phones. If something really entices me I might give the 3 warranty replacements in 90 days trick a go.

If they keep up their habit of supporting developers, I will strongly consider Sony despite my typical hatred of the company in general.
They truly went above and beyond in terms of supporting CyanogenMod on the Xperia line.

I just bought the International Galaxy note (coming from the AT&T SGSII obviously) and I love it. I prefered the Exynos processor and the hardware button over the AT&T version. I can't see a quad core in a phone really blowing me out of the water as much as the dual core did. Dual core made everything in Android run very well (especially the Exynos, thank you Samsung) so it works great for me. Not to mention all tablet apps run on the Note with ICS (ex: Photoshop!). Don't think I'll be going down in size, or buying another AT&T version, anytime soon.

Same, but I might go for the international one unless we have hellraiser.
Which depends on the kernel devs.

I said the same thing for supercurio, existz, and hardcore. Every kernel dev that doesn't give up on its followers will always be a great dev.
Laziness is a powerful thing - sometimes you'll see a good dev go to a device with good development, and be happy with what's there or just popping out patches.
If I had an I9100, I'd probably have just popped patches over to Ninpo until he stopped development.

Who's switching to gs3 ?

I for one am going to make the switch..
ALOT of people currently own a gs2 so I'm curious as to how many are also making the switch.
Don't post here if its just to criticize the gs3 or the people who are switching... this thread is just for those making the switch.

Unless the exynos proc will now do all 3g/4g I'm not. I want a phone I can use internationally on 3g and on TMO on 3g/4g.
Other than that the feature set is not anything to go OMG I'M SWAPIN. Biggest deal is the possibility of better battery life with that generation. My area has mediocre cell (on signal (on ATT and TMO) so batteries don't last as long as they should even on edge.
I am going to be making the switch
Its its not quad core but also only 4.8 inches sorry too small for me I'll see what the note 2 has to offer.

Depending on the final specs and if there are any hardware changes on the device.......I could see myself making the switch on certain circumstances but right now I'm just waiting to see what the final hardware specs are before I make the decision to put up my phone on Craigslist for max dollar. I shouldn't have to pay too much of a difference for the GS3.
I'm keeping the gs2 till gs4 comes out....I bought me an Asus Tf300 instead

I bet dual core s4 snap
I'll be buying the international GS3. I'm tired of the lag I get on the T989 :\
I don't care that it will only work on EDGE; I'll switch providers if I have to. But I'm on wifi 99% of the time so I should be okay.
Yup.
If they release one in black and the battery life is better than the T989, I'd consider making the switch.
If the price is right, then I'm in.
I'm just going to wait for the sgs4 to come out. The sgs3 doesn't really have any great improvements that's worth spending a bunch of money

According to this article, the TMobile version, the SGH-T999, will more than likely come with the Snapdragon S4 krait chip. It is dual core, however, it outperforms all other processors, including the new quad core exynos. I will definitely be picking up the next galaxy, considering our phone is still selling on Ebay for ~$350.
Edit: source= http://www.anandtech.com/show/5559/...mance-preview-msm8960-adreno-225-benchmarks/2
Scroll down to see bench marks.
The S4 has equivalent structure to that of a Cortex A15. It is really the best chip out right now. I believe the One S uses it but I could be wrong.

This is what i am always wonder, how in the heck are you guys able to switch phone so fast? i will love to, but i just got into the contract no more than 7 months ago, so i have a lot to go, before i can do an upgrade.
I'll be upgrading based solely on the increased resolution. My biggest complaint about my S2 is that it has a low res. My s2 is plenty fast, and the S3 will be faster.
As to the comment of how we can switch, I use my phone more than any other device I own. Spending $1000 a year on new phones is something I deem as a priority. Besides, my family is dependent on my castoffs for their own upgrades.

[Q] snapdragon s4 V.S Exynos 4212

i'm thinking of getting the Galaxy s3 but i'm having a bit of trouble deciding which one. before i continue i would like to sate a couple factor :
I have att, 3gb of data
I live in New York so i have LTE coverage everywhere
i barely use data for anything other than downloading an app, browsing the web, or watching something on youtube
i'm a major gamer so thats were getting the international one with its Exynos chip v.s the us one with snapdragon s4
So a couple of questions i wanted to ask you guys was:
Does 1gb vs 2gb of ram really make a difference and improve speed, i don't multitask a lot just like 2 or 3 apps
how good is the snapdragons 4 actually?( Give your opinion, and if you ever had lag when you used it)
How good is the snapdragon s4 for gaming, ex. GTA3, Max Payne, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, N.O.V.A 3, and if the games ever felt laggy or a little glitchy?
Also they are more developers for the international version
thanks in advance
If you are not worried too much about the LTE speeds than your best bet is i9300. Exynos 4 Quad is definitely better for gaming ... I have the AT&T variant just because I wanted to have unlimited 4G plan (grandfathered unlimited 3G upgraded to unlimited 4G now).
Also, if u have ORD then i9300 is the best choice hands down. I can speak from my own experience when I chose to get i9100 over local US variants. The amount of developer support for the international models is mind boggling. You don't get that much support (as quickly) for the US variants.
So better gaming, better developer support. I would say go for i9300 ... Hope this helps.

What's soooooooooooooooo good about the international one that makes it worth the $600. Is the difference in speed and performance really better on the international one?

I have the US version and I game quite a bit. I frequently play Max Payne, Shadow gun, Dead trigger and GTA3. I don't experience any lag what so ever. I couldn't make this thing lag if I wanted to. The 2Gs of RAM makes a world of difference IMO.

For ME the development alone is the biggest reason why i went for the international, we have so many recognized devs working on so many ROM's and its nice to get the first updates as soon as they come. The quad core is a bonus, as i have never seen a hint of lag or stutter on this thing. The 2gb of ram vs 1gb of ram isnt really that big of a deal to me, phones run perfectly fine on 1gb but 2gb is awesome too. This is why i chose the I9300, its different for everybody but i love this beast.
I come to these forums a lot to see what the US version has cooking and so far it looks like things are getting ready to pick up! Task and Ktoonz (sp?) are awesome devs.
If the $600 is out of your budget, then the convo is done. I mean what else do you need people to say?
Please don't take me being blunt, for rudeness.

No problem. Trust me, your going to love it. You probably won't even want to sell it for the international version. The US version handles everything just fine. In fact, tests have shown where the S4 processor actually performed faster in some situations. Most phones can't even utilize 4 threads yet. Put simply, you get all the performance of the quad-core (and then some), plus amazing battery life. We've seen video proof of the performance. With the S4 Qualcomm has introduced a new architecture, and it's cutting edge. It's based on the same instruction set as the new ARM A15 processors, which gives it a significant advantage over it's competitors. It will do tasks faster, and more efficiently than the rest of the current generation hardware. So performance is just as good overall and battery life should be better.

Don't believe everything you hear the s4 chip is a beast. Not as good as the sammy quad but i say better than tegra. Either way a duel core phone going toe to toe with either of theses processors speak for itself. It's a notice different from last generation duel core. It handles games without a hitch battery life omg all day long . This phone isn't perfect but it's Pretty darn close. I own the evo 4g lte with the s4 chip and it runs sense4 like butter no lag get the phone enjoy it. Development isn't where the international version is because the rest of the world78% to be exact got the same phone and little usa has to have there altered to work with lte. Plus they got theres before us. The u.s galaxy s3 development will pick up fast the delays and Verizon just getting it a few days plays a roll to.

So other than the fact the galaxy s3 has 2gb of ram, what's the difference?

Not to be rude but you need to research the specs yourself, someone could say one has magic faeries inside for all you know.
The One X has a super lcd2 IPS display, while the GS3 has a samoled hd+ screen.
The One X has no removable storage or battery, while the GS3 has both.
The One X has 1gb of RAM, while the GS3 (USA) has 2gb.
The One X has Sense, we have TouchWiz

Which S III to get

Hello XDA
I'm a noob.
I had a blaze but threw it over my neighbors house into a busy street. In hindsight I should have just given it to a dev, but it was tainted with my ex's stench and it just felt damn good to chunk it.
Anyway, I had so much fun with different roms and tinkering with the device that Im officially addicted to yalls world. I'd love to get my hands on an sIII and was wondering which one to get. I want to use a prepaid plan so i'm not sure what direction to go as far as purchasing one.
Tmobile, att, verizon, or some other option I'm ignorant about.
It will be a while until im able to get the phone for financial reasons but would like to get started learning dev strategy etc. I have a laptop and internet though, so any help and direction there would be greatly appreciated. Linux talk etc.
Thank You

Not sure I agree with that. If you don't need LTE then it may be extra cost / different spec for no point. 2Gb would be nice but you can always wait for an increased spec .... but then you will never buy as something better is always just around the corner.
Of course, if a 2Gb one is released, the 1Gb one will be cheaper second hand.....!
PS excellent story re the flying phone!
Inernational White VErsion! GT-I9300. Like what the others said. Slap a 64gb Sandisk in it and you're done! :highfive:

Did you compare it to G3 and see if it's that much better than we we currently have? Slightly faster quad-core and slightly quicker GPU is about it. Everything else is about the same. IMO it's not worth the cost for the pinch of upgrades.

Well the 16mp camera is a good upgrade, so is the dual 5mp front cameras, military grade drop rating, dual display...It's worth it.
