ICS for the thunderbolt - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an exact release date or is it just in July or august

Nope. Can't wait till S3... Be done with this phone lol. Only thing we know is july/august maybe but knowing HTC... Next year sometime. lol

I think HTC has abandoned us

As much as I would love to see it, it doesn't make sense. The phone is too old from a marketing standpoint. The company is invested in trying to take the android title back from sammy. To that end, it's all about the One series.
Working ICS into the TB is a step backwards (I mean, what would they do with the capacitive buttons that got replaced by softkeys?). HTC wont care about ways to make your Magic viable again with the latest software. So too it is with the TB.
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt

HTC will release it they said July Aug. However then VZW needs 6 weeks to test. If something wrong then another 6 weeks. So the soonest would be sept to October. After VZW testing assuming nothing is wrong with it. If VZW gets it in July then sept release...

They supposedly started a soak test around the time we got the last ota. If that's true we may have ics around july or august.

I'm waiting on a leak soon

Droid Bionic got 2 ICS leaks today...still nothing for the 'bolt. Glad I switched a while back.

Can they just leak it so the developers can do their thing? Really tired of this waiting and uncertaincy. Damn HTC.

this will be my last HTC device. I regret getting this phone. Its great hardware wise but the software is terrible and dont get me started on htc sense. I currently run AOSP. Why does HTC find it necissary to bloat the **** out of all their phones with all the additional software. It takes a great piece of hardware and turns it into a turd. and on the note of ICS. Jellybean will be out before ICS hits the Bolt. Im so ready for the Galaxy Note 2. Im done with HTC and Verizon stupid share plan. ****itall.

Do you think Verizon will get the Note 2?

Update for tmo pushed to June. Thoughts?

So I just saw this:
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/04/t-mo...-ice-cream-sandwich-upcoming-device-launches/
Looks like it will be pushed back till june.
That makes no sense since this seems to be works so well.
I wonder if HTC leaked that purposely to test people or if it will change again.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks again to the leaker at tmo.
Thank you for choosing to force integrity down the throat of the sleazbags in the marketing department...
Thank you for pulling out the rug from under the self aggrandising pompus fool executives who think that they can twist the arm of their elite level customers..
To the the executives that may be reading this.. Above is the list of people to fire.. Unceremoniously and with a grand parade, wander them around the office as an example of douchebags using and idea older than moses and calling it innovative.. Rather than the insult to customers it truly is

It does not, the ics available for the t989 is from a leak from the skyrocket. Due to that there was issues with rotation which were fixed but there is still missing features like wifi calling, and a kernel to develop cm9 etc from that.

We are working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules for our smartphones and will have more to share very soon. For all of our latest ICS news stay tuned to our blog: http://bit.ly/yTJiXX
Not date yet. We'll let you know if we learn more.
I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. I have a feeling T-Mobile is holding off on the update so the One S can have the spotlight for another month. They probably figured that people would buy it since Ice Cream Sandwich is a big selling point.

These two tie in together. HTC wants to nail down an update schedule that the One S will have ICS for a while, gathering in sales, while the other phones will have to wait. Also, T-Mobile stores list our phone as 1.5 ghz dual-core, they don't really specify that it's produced by Snapdragon or that it is an S3. Clearly, it would look bad that the One S and the Amaze have the same specs in a simpler manner, without going into specifics.
Some of you folks act like your phone is broke or completely ancient because it isn't rocking the current OS.
There is a leak for ICS, so what is the problem? If you want it so bad, download it and be on your merrily happy way. If not, go spend monies you probably don't have on a device that runs on it. Complaining over and over on something you can't control is beyond rhetorical.
Not like T-Mobile has ever been fast with the updates. This is nothing new......be glad if it comes out in June.

Also to note, you people actually think majority of users pay attention to specs that much? Again I say, we are such a small % over the grand scheme of things. People that are due for contracts will get whatever the new hotness is. Period

My Amaze (bought in December) has multiple issues that have not been resolved on three separate handsets, and half a dozen factory resets. I'm not "whining" about not getting ICS sooner, I'm whining about not getting FIXES after way too long a wait.
The last word I've heard was, "we're working on a fix," "HTC is aware of the problem," while I continue to wait, and wait, and wait. Like the poor refugees in CASABLANCA
I'm willing to wait longer for solid fixes, and (crosses fingers) a replacement of Sense 3.0 with the much-improved 4.0. Frankly, I've gotten tired of factory resets and handset replacements that flush my progress and scores from games that I've paid for. It's not a requirement that my games are intact on a phone, but jeez, it got old after 12 weeks of ownership of this top-tier phone to be told, "don't install any apps, just use the phone as shipped."
I just feel that I've been made to wait through serial postponements while HTC and T-Mobile trumpet a newer, slightly better line of phones. Clearly, people who've already bought an HTC don't get as much respect or thought than the new customers out there. S'okay, if the ICS update arrives and doesn't fix the problems, I'll know what to do. Root, flash, or flip and get another brand. T'is a pity that modern manufacturers would rather disappoint their established customers while trying to attract new customers. It's a model that has destroyed many companies in the past.

You're comparing the average iPhone users to the most informed Android users. The average Android user has never even heard of Ice Cream Sandwich.
I do think it is ridiculous that the RAZR was advertised as "ICS upgradeable," and six months later there is still no official date set for release. I don't understand how Motorola even got away with advertising the phone that way. They should have said "Gingerbread, with the possibility that before your contract is up in two years there may be an update to ICS."
I've got ICS. It's amazing.

And to all who are claiming they'll sell their phones, I'll give the same response I did over in the Acer Iconia A500 section... WHY would you buy a phone you were unhappy with? Did you really buy it to just sit there in agony until ICS was released? Suffer horribly under Gingerbread until the promise of a new OS became reality? Really?
Same offer- I'll give you $50 for your oh-so-hated Gingerbread Razr. $55 if it's a Maxx.

HTC confirms the update "5 Sense" for its older models

Sense 5 will be available on older models. HTC has confirmed the information via his Facebook page. For the moment no "roadmap" official has been issued, only a small non-exhaustive list is available.
"HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the coming months, including variants of HTC One X One X +, One S & HTC Butterfly. However, note that certain features of the new HTC One will not be available in software updates for hardware compatibility reasons ".
The Droid DNA isn't on this list of 4 smartphones, but if the Butterfly will get the update, so it wouldn't be for technical reasons if the Droid DNA wouldn't get it...Normally it will also...

This is the reason I left HTC to begin with... The promising of updates that never happen... Verizon shares some of the blame for the delays, but ultimately it's up to HTC to deliver quality builds to the carriers.. While on the Incredible 2 and waiting for ICS, HTC delivered a build to Verizon that was so buggy that even Verizon said "no".... But now I'm back and hope this doesn't happen again..

Precisely why I look at the possible dev community rather than what I think the carrier will offer down the road when I purchase a phone. I bought the DNA in full confidence that there would be many great devs supporting it, and I was right. Really enjoying my phone so far.
As for my friend, he bought an LG Spectrum even though he knew I was pretty knowledgeable and could have given him better suggestions. Now he's begging me to root it for him... but for what, there's no development for it at all lol.
I personally bought the DNA over butterfly because of the bigger dev community. Ill never understand why be at xda and wait on carriers.

you might want to go check over on android forums. There is plenty of development. In fact, AOKP and CM 10.1 both are nearing official support thanks to the devs over there. The Spec was a great phone while I had it.

I looked quite a few times and even by the time I bought my DNA, they still didn't have anything concrete. Just took a look too and this all looks like recent dev for it. Agreed though, the specs did look good, but LG messed it up pretty bad.
Either way, good to see that it's finally getting some attention and I can offer him some relief when we see each other in a few months - hopefully they have a stable CM10.1 by then

I looked quite a few times and even by the time I bought my DNA, they still didn't have anything concrete. Just took a look too and this all looks like recent dev for it. Agreed though, the specs did look good, but LG messed it up pretty bad.

LG devices are notorious for their poor development. They're usually budget phones (with the Optimus line being an obvious exception).
HTC confirmed via their Facebook page to my question about ICS on the Thunderbolt that it was "coming soon" back in June of 2012. When did it arrive? December? Better late than never I suppose but I wouldn't hold your breath...

Sense 5 4.2.2

Saw this online and wondered if there are possibilities for the evo to port this. Anyway love all the hard work devs

You never know with them. Think of the Thunderbolt and how long it took for HTC and Verizon to put out the ICS update for it. smdh
If Sense 5 with 4.1.2 was ported to our phones, I'd imagine that it wouldn't require much more (which I know it was A LOT) work than this port, as at least with portions of the UI, are very similar.
True its crazy how sick our devs are it really helps out our phone life
Lol updated op with link of Rom I saw

Dev community is definitely a big factor when considering a phone, at least for those that like to mod their phones

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If & when we get an official release of Sense 5, I expect there will be more development. Until then..........

HOX and HOX+ just started roll-out of Sense 5 4.2.2
I bet you after Evita, we would get our update. Which is in 2 weeks.

The most development will always go to the Samsung Galaxies. Some other phones like the One might pop up once in a while, bit Samsung Galaxies are sure fire the phones with most development. My brother has the Epic 4g as a backup phone, and the thing STILL gets ROM updates!

80% of galaxy sales are hipsters and women.
Check out the sprint s3 section.
They have less to choose from than we do.
Nexus devices have the most development.

HTC One X now receiving Sense 5 and Android 4.2.2 in Europe, shouldn't be long for the EVO - unless Sprint decides to screw us.

Old news.
Once Evita gets it, then we see us. Sprint won't screw us unlike Verizon, cause Sprint actually lets people do **** to their phones.
Its getting closer...
