[Q] can T959V useT959 modems?

my phone's data is so weak indoor, so i want to install a different modem. I noticed that t959v and t959 cannot share the same rom, so i'm wondering if it's ok to install a t959 modem to my t959v, KB5, for instance...
p.s. English is not my first language, so it's a little difficult for me to find the answer among huge namber of posts, pls help me on this
I doubt it.
anybody knows?
Well I remember a thread in the Development section not too long ago about a guy who used Gt- I9000 modems since he lived in Europe. My say in this? I say why not? You can always use Odin to save yourself
You won't be able to use the modem. The t959V uses different hardware radios for gps, signal, and wifi

[Q] Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) 911 and Fixes/Roms

My girlfriend recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V). I enjoy all the features I get from rooting, etc on my G2. I saw the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile and have installed it for her. I wanted her to be able to have root, remove bloatware and have the lagfix (voodoo, assuming it is still needed) working. As I was getting ready to find her a good ROM this CM 911 dustup happened. It's ok if she keeps the Samsung ROM, my question is where is this 911 "feature" stored? In other words, what can be done to her phone without destroying emergancy calling? I am pretty sure just rooting it is fine. Removing bloatware after rooting should be good also. I believe the lagfix replaces the kernel. If the kernel gets replaced will that break 911 calls? Is anyone working on a stock GB ROM (as officially released Nov 15) that would have root, removed bloat, and anything else safe that keeps 911 working? I would be glad to wipe the phone, root, remove bloat, (lagfix?) myself and post. I just do not know what is safe to play with. Is this just a radio issue, library issue or kernel issue? Any information would be appriciated. I would like to make her android experiance a good one that still allows her to call 911. I have searched the forums and the web but can't seem to nail down a good answer of what can be changed and what must be left alone to allow 911 to work.
911 operators are drunks anyways... here's some proof, provided from a random Google search.
This is the vibrant forum,sgh-t959 not t959v... very different..
From my understanding, cm7 is the only one with the 911 problem (and any rom coming from cm7)
. Stick to samsung roms and your good. Also the 911 thing isnt the end of the world.. you call them, they cant hear you.. hang up and theyll call you back

Ah, since the download for the updater said "Vibrant" (offical from Samsung) and the model number is so close I assumed they were mostly the same. I see now there is a S 4G forum. Sorry for the mix up. I would assume this phone could have the same issues if CM was ported. Currently it is listed as not supported. I'll move to the right forum and dig some more. Sorry for the waste of space. If anyone knows if these are affected by the 911 issue feel free to chime in. Or if a moderator wants to move this to the othe forum feel free.
Thanks
Lol the waste of space is no big deal and your right, id forgotten that they call yours the vibrant 4g. But still the two phones are very different hardwarewise, idk why.

Nope.
If you could, there won't be a need to differentiate between 3g n wifi version rom, wouldn't they?
i don't know. I thought, the only difference is 3G modul and SIM tray. I really don't need it, so there won't be a problem for me if 3G wouldn't work.
I thought for sure you could use most of the custom ROMs here. IDK for certain though. I do think you will lose 3G.
I'd wait for some more replies or ask in a ROM thread to get a quick answer. make sure to read the op before asking so nobody gets upset if it already is stated. Some days we tend to be more rude with answers that have been posted before and get asked again. and it's a Monday here.
If you can read this it was sent using my GT-P7510.
Yes. Actually I hace a ICS Rom of my GT-P7500 that detect 3G. I tried a Wifi Rom that I think is the GT-P7500 model and worked for me. This didn't detect my 3G network.

Yes you can, but you will lose your 3G connection. I've had wi-fi only ROMs on my 7500 before and they worked just fine.
ok, thank you for good news. At least i'm not afraid to flash different ROMs
You can flash ICS if you like, 3G was taken down on it for some fixes but I don't see the real big deal with 3G and Wifi models. Would be advisable to take a nandroid backup, just incase you get too excited
I'll give it a try for sure, but i'm tab owner for about week so first i want to live for a while with stock ROM so i can compare it then with ICS.

And by the way, you can have ICS and 3G too, just flash the 7500 ICS kang here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461240.
I'm using it and it works really well for me.
Is it really smooth? No lags? What about freezing? Is it faster than 3.1?

In my experience it's much smoother (especially noticeable if you use a live wallpaper and some widgets). Haven't got a freeze yet, everything worked just fine.
Only noticed a few problems:
Camera not working (I don't really use the tab to take pictures, but it's nice to have it for chatting)
When you click on the "recent apps" button, the screen flickers sometimes
Games don't run as good as they did on The Overcome Experience v2.2.0 - stuff like Angry Birds etc. works no problems, but I did notice more stuttering in Asphalt 6
I think that's everything that didn't work for me, otherwise it's been really nice . Other users might report some other problems though. Best bet - take a nandroid backup to make sure you don't break something, then flash it and see how it goes .
ok thanx for sharing xp. First i'll try Overcome and then ICS
One more thing: Do you have any xp with adaptors like Samsung port -> USB port or Samsung port -> SD card reader?

HTC One Cross Compatible stuff

Hi guys,
so what i've been noticing is there is alot of stuff in the HTC One international version section and i've heard and seen people running different stuff from there.
i think it might be a good idea to start a thread or something that can link to those specific threads about kernel's or roms that work on our phone. I've already loaded up a battery % mod from there that works with our phone. that might get the ball rolling.
from what i heard all the roms are cross compatible since pretty much no one adds firmware into their roms just the OS software and thats it. *correct me if i'm wrong*
though the one thing to be weary about is since the tmobile wifi calling is built into our stock rom if you want to keep it you'd have to mod the current rom file we're using. if you use the international roms it will not have wifi calling since their roms stock dont come with it.
Just a thought to get the ball rolling on roms. I'm one to not really care about wifi calling since i mean most of us are on the new tmobile non contract unlimited lines anyways so theres no need to worry about going over minutes. you'd be only worried about it if your out of the country or in a place that has really bad signal and want to use wifi to make a call.

[Q] Can I change modem im my AT&T Note?

HI everyone... I have a question:
I have an at&t sgh i717 with a virgin sim (Im outside of the us), and I need to choose a new modem (I think) because currently I have this t989 uvle1 for tmobile that I had to use to unlock my phone. I'm getting three bars in the signal so my question is or are: do I really need to change the modem? Does the signal have to show more bars so that one can be sure that the modem fits the phone? And, a modem has to be chosen depending on your phone and on your location (since I'm in southamerica)? does having a 2.6.3 kernel affect any of this, should I upgrade it?
I hope I'm not asking too much, sorry,
thanks
Wrong forum, belongs here. I've asked mods to move your post, sit tight.
Edit - You mean i777, right ? (I717 is the AT&T Note).

Since you have an i717, normally you would probably want to flash back to an AT&T based modem. However, since you're probably not on AT&T's network, your best bet is to try several modems and see which one works best with the provider in your area. My recommendation is to at least base your tests on signal strength and speed tests.

OK, I'm going to try several because just yesterday I found out that my gps didn't work and I think that's related to not having a suitable modem.
Additionally, I performed a speed test and whereas I get 12 mbps for download in my laptop I got 10 mbps in my phone, not much of a deal though.
Regarding signal, I get from three to four bars which isn't that bad and I've made a couple of calls and everything seems to be fine.
Since the gps thing is a real setback I'll flash another modem but I'm also thinking on upgrading to ics because right know I'm on gingerbread 2.3.6 with 2.6.3 kernel so I wanted to know if It's better to flash the modem before or after upgrading.
Thank you for your answers
You will probably have better luck if you upgrade to an ICS or jelly bean based rom.

The gps not working isn't always antenna issues. You can try to update the gps data file. Go to the market and get a gps fix app. You're looking for an app that will replace your gps configuration file with an updated file.

Thanks, good to know that.. it's just that when I received the phone it was working and based on that and some comments on internet I attributed this error to the switch in modem/baseband/radio...
Anyways, I'm installing a rooted ics rom and I'll come back to comment, hopefully positive things
