Question about memoryusage in S3. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have a question about memory usage in S3. When I download music in Spotify the internal memory is used instead of the memorycard. When I take photos the memorycard is used, but not when shooting films. Anyone has some advice to give, so I can start using the memorycard instead of running out of internal memory? Please!

Hi. You have to set in camera settings for the phone to store filmed video on external sd card.

camcorder file size or time limit

I am trying to replace my flip with my photon, but I am running into an issue where the stock camcorder stops recording at 23:07 with a file size of 1.89 GB (2,040,108,503 bytes). This is annoying when I am trying to record 45 min lectures.
I do not have encryption turned on and have my 32GB sdcard formatted to fat32. If I use lgcamera from the market I do not run into this issue, but I prefer the stock camcorder UI.
If someone has a free 23:08 min/sec and 1.9GB can you record some 720p and let me know if this is expected behavior or if I need to tweak some setting somewhere
thanks.
make sjre your camera is set to use the external sd card

Its set to the external sdcard, but the behaviour is the same regardless of if I set it for internal or external storage.

Record two different clips or shorter lectures lol
I read somewhere awhile ago, don't have the source anymore. The article basically said the issue is with the sd-card. If I remembered correctly, just reformat the card in your phone, something was off if you did it on computer.

[Q] Any way to increase video record time limit?

I've noticed that video stops record around 15 minutes into a record on 1080p and 30 mins in on 720p. Seems there is around a 2 gig file size limit. Is there any way to shoot until memory card is full and/or save to micro SD card? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running aokp build 38.
There is no such thing. I was recording 1080p video for 1 hour straight without problems.

What file system did you use to format your sd card? Try using NTFS and see if the larger file size makes a difference.

There doesn't seem to be an option to save video to SD Card, it is formatted in NTFS
Isn't there some issue in certain countries that if it can record video for a more than some legislated time, then it's a video camera subject to special import taxes? Just remembering something I read.
Bye.
I can save file to internal SD that are larger that 2gb, so the memory isn't the issue. I found an app that save to MicroSD and still stops at 2gb. I may go back to stock then if I can't find a work around.
I've tried multiple roms , even stock from androwook, but the issue won't go away. Kind of out of ideas....

Can you confirm that the video file size you recorded was over 2gb? That seems to be my limitation and a android limitation in general, according to what I've searched on the web.
any new ??? i want to know if there is any way to recorder more than 60 minutes....
2 gb limitation screams of fat 32 file system or compliance.
Are you able to copy a file larger than 2 gb over to the same folder from your computer with the USB cord?
I recorder if minimun quality, the file size is about 400mb and its only recorded 60 minutes.....
Anyone solved the issue? I have the same problem. I tried to record a looong video. It stopped at 35:40 and the file size was 1,99 GB, so I think I have the 2 GB limit. I've got Galaxy Nexus with stock 4.2.2 yakju. It's a version without removable sd card.
Help?

Transferring .mkv files to SD card causes crash

Has anyone been able to transfer large .mkv movies over to the Galaxy S3 external (or internal) memory using Windows? Every time I try to copy a video over it crashes my windows explorer.
Anyone had the same problem/found a solution?
Thanks
The max file size for FAT32 partitions is 4.0Gb - 1 byte. Anything above that may cause crashes and/or curruption.
If the file you`re trying to copy exceeds that limit, either use exFAT on your external SD card or split the file.

Forgot to mention. My memory card is already formatted as exFAT.

Try using other computer. Maybe the bug is in your current computer.

Re name your mkv file extension to avi and then it should work

I am running a 4.7ghz pc with 8 gb ram and when I copy files from my phone to computer, two things happen:
1)It is dog @ss slow, takes like 3 hours (my Evo took like 10 minutes)
2)It freezes up the computer constantly (unusable), and then when it is
finished copying, the computer remains out of memory or 98% used of 8 GB!
So there definately is a bug in the Galaxy SIII copying from Windows 7.
I know they made a retarded move to not let you mount it like a USB drive,
so it takes FOREVER, and transfering files as if they were media or camera is
just so slow and stupid. I hope they come out with a fix for this, I know there
is an app from you guys in beta Easy UMS, but I have beta 2, installed busybox, etc., and my computer still can't see the drive with UMS mode.
About playing the video, I would say that the stock video player doesn't play it, but if u use qqplayer u will be able to play it.
Can u check the transfer of the same filer in another pc and report back?

The problem it's not the size of the video(i tried to move a mkv of 2gb).I'm also affected from this problem and the only way i found is to use a card reader.

This is happening to me too, whatever size the mkv file is. What i do is, rename the mkv extension to mo or any ma, then copy paste to sd card, rename it in root explorer back to mkv. Works for me
Well,i'll do it the next time thx far the tip:thumbup:

I think the issue is that you are using MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) to transfer data from pc to GS3 which is the default way in Android 4.0.
Use 'SGS3 EASY UMS' app to mount your SD card as USB mass storage.
This will resolve the problem.

just take the .mkv file extension of the movie, tanner it over, use es file explorer to add the extension back back on.

Uninstall DIVX if you have it or turn off thumbnails in windows. Yes MTP sucks.

What was google thinking putting all Google Music and Google Movies/TV in Internal

In internal storage??
Or did I miss something very obvious?
I have Google Music download songs for offline usage. And Downloaded a couple of TV/Movies. BANG! my internal storage got eaten up almost 5 GB immediately.
And I am looking at 200 MB free space remaining in Phone and 30GB free in my external SDCard but have NO WAY to move the music and movies to the external card...
So the only work around without rooting or much hacking is ... to delete Google Play Music data completely. and Download my songs using desktop manager and copy music from computer to external card...
Still , this is stupid and the apps are official Google apps. Now I can't dare to buy a movie and save it in phone to watch on a flight.
Any smart solutions without rooting , please help!
I don't Know what your options are as far as fixing this without root, but you can trick your phone Into using your external sd by Creating Junctions/smlinks using rootexplorer.

[Q] Music problem...

Hi... not sure if this is an adriod, galaxy or sd card problem so please bear with me...
i have the S2 and all ok... does all it should but in the past week i have noticed that if i put music on it to the internal sd card all is ok. if i transfer the music to the ext sd card suddenly it says it cant play that type of file... finds them ok but cant play them. if i transfer them off the sd card and back onto the internal, either using cable and pc or just android file manager, then they play fine again.
the sd card is formatted and not a fake... all other things work on it like photos, apps etc... just mp3 files by the looks of things...
anyone any suggestions please...???
Hi,
which music player do you use? For example, in PowerAMP there is an option to rescan the library, maybe that can help you?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk 2
hi... use winamp and also the generic music player both show the titles but wont play the music when on the sd card... but both will play it when in the internal memory...
thanks
