[Q] O.K just screwd up my IMEI /EFS erased - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi Guys
trying to unlock my galaxy s3 ,my EFS folder was erased ,
I didn't made any backup of any kind, actually i trusted my friend to do the unlock,
and that's what happens...
is there ant way of restoring the EFS folder ?

afaik if you didn't make a back up, you're screwed. but I did hear something about going on google play and obtain your imei from there...the rest idk

do you have any other software installed on the phone already ?

I had the same problem. Did not back anything up. And mine was rooted. I just flashed the stock Indian rom and went to the Samsung service centre. They did not check the binary counter. And replaced my motherboard for free ie under warranty. I stay in Navi Mumbai. Hope this helps you.

I would say reflashing the stock rom...that solved it for me on the s1 in the past.

I did the same flashing a dodgy ROM on my Nexus S along with around another 100 or so people. Unfortunately the Devs were unable to fix it. Reverted back to stock locked the bootloader and sent it back to Samsung.
Got it back about 10 days later repaired and with the bootloader unlocked. I'm sure they knew I'd messed with it and that's why they sent it back with bootloader unlocked.
If you do have to send it back let us know how you get on. It would be interesting to see if Samsung will refuse warranty or not.
Hopefully you won't have to go down that path but I wouldnt hold your breath.

Depending on how he tried to unlock it, he had to transfer the file to the computer.
Are you sure the original nv_data.bin is not still stored _somewhere_?

Wiered efs corruption.

Ok sk last night I went to best and forgot to plug my phone in. In the morning I pluged the phone in and turned it up.
Once booted up I wasn't able to connect to a cellular tower. I looked and baseband said unknown, I than checked the imei which was also unknown.
At this point I knew my efs folder was corrupt. No problem I had it backed up, so I restored it. After a reboot everything worked.
But if I do a reboot after that I once again get the efs corruption.
Any help would be great.

Flashing custom ROM kills EFS

I have problem with flashing, bought sgs2 today, wanted to make flash custom rom, phone is rooted with Doomlord exploit and there is cf root kernel flashed for cwm access (flashed via odin mobile), no simlock
When I flash any custom rom, phone apk keeps crashing, there is no cellular network and no IMEI in About the Phone section. I have tried restoring IMEI with EFS pro but after reboot its the same problem. I have EFS backup and nandroid backup.
What is wrong, I have two other phones, sgs2 and note, I didn't have those problems before, what is wrong this time? Any help will be great for me, I would appreciate ideas.
Is your phone plugged in to the wall charger or a USB port.
I used a custom ROM that would not allow me to reboot plugged in. Same problems as you.
When I reboot unplugged, service returns.

I'm aware of this problem, happend to me before, but unplugging doesn't help in that case. When I delete nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 it helps instantly but returns after reboot.
I have nv_data.bak in this folder and its some old file, like 2010 old, should I deleted it or something?
solved with wipe, which gave me random IMEI then restored right one with EFS Pro (thanks a lot for Dev Team of that app)
I keep reading about people loosing their ime after a flash but never bothered to remember if the flash was via CWM or Odin.
This might already have been investigated and I've missed it but it would be nice to know if anyone has lost their ime using Odin or if it's only through CWM.
This looks like it's happening more and more so it would be good to find out the cause.

This happened me yesterday, glad you managed to fix it, I didn't have a backup but thankfully there is a market app called GSII-repair and it can restore imei without a backup, hope this helps someone

S3 Sim Card Issue

Hello,
Just recently attempted to restore to a stock rom using the following download - I9300BVALF4_I9300TMUALF2_I9300BVLF2_HOME.tar
How ever on restoring it when my phone was booted up it seems now it's asking me for a SIM Unlock code, where as before my phone was fully unlocked. My phone is rooted and also the IMEI number is fully correct. attempted to clear EFS folder and still no luck.
Does anyone have any kind of idea. I'm kind of worried that I have screwed my S3 up.
Sorry if this is the wrong section.
I doubt this is a permanent problem, you may want to try to use Odin to go back to stock and start over.

Bricked SGS2 out of the blue! Please help, This phone is my daily driver!!!

Hey guys,
My Galaxy SII has just randomly cracked it. I was using it and it rebooted and when it did I could use it for the first 2 secconds then it went black and said "TWLauncher stopped working"... I knew it was bad but I thought that it was just the launcher playing up. Turns out it was the whole phone. every app I open instantly force quits... I cannot reflash because I cannot lose what is on there (Plus I cant get whats on there off because I cannot connect usb). I need a fix pleeease XDA, I love you guys and I know you can do it
Model: SGS2 I9100T Unlocked
ROM: Untouched, non rooted and yeah. It is running on ICS (Samsungs one)
thanks a bunch in advanced, let me know if you need more info
Same thing happens with me just some hours ago.... What I did to make it working...
Factory reset
After that it is working fine also you try flashing a rom via odin none wipe...

Hey,
Thanks for the sugestion but I cannot lose ANYTHING on the phone Is there any way to do it without losing data?
...
I can't
And I cant factory reset because I cant get into settings
First of all don't call the phone bricked. Because it is nowhere near bricked. If every app force closes on you then the only option would be start again..Your choice of course.
With regards,
Beston94
Will it void warranty?
Lol, Sorry for the bad choice of wording. I am in need of getting this fixed and just threw words at the page. I know what bricked is, (That's how I lost some of my past phones)... I despratly need this phone for tomorrow that is why I am in a rush
If you havent messed with your phone, then your could send it to warranty repair. Of course there is always chance you might lose your data so this could be considered only as the last resort...

Just go into recovery and do a factory reset... Or flash a non wipe rom... There are no other option and why you asking for warranty if you wish to visit service centre... They will do the same that we all ready told you... And you will lose all your data...
So now stop questions and just go and do it... There are no other option
Edit:- and next time always take a backup of all your data just in case you need... Like today

This is good advice if he really does want to brick his phone. You're suggesting he install something for an Epic 4g Touch to an i9100T.
Are you using siyah kernel? I remember that it happened to me once I had to update the kernel + restore data partition from a older nandroid backup...
By the way guys, I have no experience using Odin. I come from a background of Nexus' and other Non-Samsung devices
Maybe this method will work...You won't lose anything. You must be rooted!
Just ask somebody to make you a flashable launcher trough recovery like launcherpro. And maybe it will work
This will void your warranty!
Good luck pro

Factory reset from recovery is the easiest way at this point and will probably work since something in your Android framework has likely just gone awry. What kind of data are you afraid of losing? If it's media (such as you're pictures/videos etc.) then it's safe. Hopefully you're storing your contacts in your Google account or SIM card. If that's the case, you'll really only lose settings, apps (and their corresponding non-backed up data) and text messages. If you haven't rooted your phone or done anything to void your warranty, you could take it to a repair center but there's not much point since it's most likely not a hardware error and they'll just factory reset your phone and you'll lose all your data anyway.
The data is calender info, b'days and such... Oh, and they aren't backed up to Google... The contacts are on the sim

Hi mate,
Sorry to hear about your phone.
I had a soft bricked S2 yesterday (bootloops) and I also didnt want to lose any data so I just flashed my stock ROM using Odin without wiping anything and it worked fine NOTHING was lost!
Just google or search on here for your stock official firmware and flash through Odin.
It really is very very simple, even for someone who's never done it before. Just follow instructions EXACTLY and you'll be fine.
There's lots of info on here about using Odin to flash firmware.
A few handy tips for you......
*Make sure latest drivers are installed (download latest Kies and update all drivers) then reboot computer so Kies isn't running in the background as it can mess up the flashing process
*Make sure you are using a good trusted USB port and cable (you don't want to lose connection half way through flashing) If you do it is normally a simple case of flashing again
*Make sure battery is above 80%
*Double check the firmware is right for your phone.
I'm happy to help you out if you get stuck just PM me
Good luck

CAN a Rom Change The **IMEI** number

I am on CM10.1
and i have noticed today that my imei no is different at back of device and when i press *#06#
IMEI ON BOX AND BACK OF DEVICE IS SAME
BUT

Its possible if your efs folder gets damaged .
It happens from time to time when people flash, I would restore my backup if the efs folder.

I believe he has a valid imei but it does not match that on the box or back..this is the first time I have seen this case..
1. Some one opened the box and replaced the original phone..
2. Refurbished phone in a different box..
3. Somehow the phone got mixed up in packaging..
Any of the above scenarios may be the reason..

ya now when I think of it none of them are possible..well it might have happened when Samsung was flashing the phone for the first time and there was a mixup....i don't think restoring the backup will solve it as the backup will have the same IMEI...flashing the rom never changes the EFS to something valid..

From what I've seen on previous posts if imei is zeroes like "0000000000" it means an efs issue, if completely different that really doesn't sound right at all.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Does it start 0049......?
Wrong IMEI is usually one of two IMEI codes . 0000 and something like 0046 .
Reads as a corrupt EFS folder to me as presumption is that it was the correct IMEI before you started flashing roms .
jje
on box and back of battery it starts with 353719**********
and at mobile it starts with same 353719********** that stars are changed
just now i flashed the samsung official indian rom and the IMEI no is still different
s guess its samsung mistake
possible reason is u got repaired galaxy s3. i mean Samsung service center guys changed motherboard and they forget that now imei number also changed.
