S3 Sim Card Issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Just recently attempted to restore to a stock rom using the following download - I9300BVALF4_I9300TMUALF2_I9300BVLF2_HOME.tar
How ever on restoring it when my phone was booted up it seems now it's asking me for a SIM Unlock code, where as before my phone was fully unlocked. My phone is rooted and also the IMEI number is fully correct. attempted to clear EFS folder and still no luck.
Does anyone have any kind of idea. I'm kind of worried that I have screwed my S3 up.
Sorry if this is the wrong section.

I doubt this is a permanent problem, you may want to try to use Odin to go back to stock and start over.

[Q] PIN on by default when i install Gingerbread

So I installed Cyanogenmod 9 but now ive decided to go back to gingerbread. The only problem is whenever you i do that, everything flashes perfectly but when the ROM boots up, therrs always a PIN (screen lock)!!! i have noooo idea what this pin is.
I call myself and then press home after hanging up which means im actually in the phone. BUT i cant remove the pin still!!!!!
Ive tried plain flashing, clearing memory/cache etc, doing it through ODIN but they all result in the same thing!
can anyone provide any suggestions? thanks.
So is phone or sim locked with pin?

Have you tried entering any random numbers?

That is because the pin info is stored in the efs partition which is untouched during flashes and ignored by AOSP roms like CyanogenMod which use a different pin storage method.
So that is why it came back after you went back to stock. It will be the same pin you set it as last time you were stock.
I've tried all my old pins none of them work. Is there any way to reset this completely?

You could try figuring out what files on the efs have to be deleted and delete them.
MAKE A EFS BACKUP FIRST if you are going to try that though so you can always restore it if you lose your IMEI
I am not sure what files you would have to get rid of but with a good backup you should be safe to play around.

[Q] O.K just screwd up my IMEI /EFS erased

hi Guys

I didn't made any backup of any kind, actually i trusted my friend to do the unlock,
and that's what happens...
is there ant way of restoring the EFS folder ?
afaik if you didn't make a back up, you're screwed. but I did hear something about going on google play and obtain your imei from there...the rest idk

do you have any other software installed on the phone already ?
I had the same problem. Did not back anything up. And mine was rooted. I just flashed the stock Indian rom and went to the Samsung service centre. They did not check the binary counter. And replaced my motherboard for free ie under warranty. I stay in Navi Mumbai. Hope this helps you.

I would say reflashing the stock rom...that solved it for me on the s1 in the past.
I did the same flashing a dodgy ROM on my Nexus S along with around another 100 or so people. Unfortunately the Devs were unable to fix it. Reverted back to stock locked the bootloader and sent it back to Samsung.
Got it back about 10 days later repaired and with the bootloader unlocked. I'm sure they knew I'd messed with it and that's why they sent it back with bootloader unlocked.
If you do have to send it back let us know how you get on. It would be interesting to see if Samsung will refuse warranty or not.
Hopefully you won't have to go down that path but I wouldnt hold your breath.

Depending on how he tried to unlock it, he had to transfer the file to the computer.
Are you sure the original nv_data.bin is not still stored _somewhere_?

No 4G data connection

Hi. I just Odin'ed back to stock firmware after experiencing no 4G data, only Edge, after flashing the Tmobile recovery through Rom Manager while on CM9 nightly #2. I had wiped and reflashed CM9, with no luck. I thought Odin'ing would fix the problem but it did not. I also tried removing the SIM card for a couple of minutes. Anyone have any suggestions what i could try? Thanks
Update: So far flashing CWM recovery using Rom Manager has set the IMEI to 0, on mine and MacTheRipperr's phone.
Anyone else with similar issues after flashing recovery through Rom Mananger?

Are you sure it wasn't a Tmobile problem? Maybe you should try other kernels and/or roms... I'm using AOKP on my Galaxy S since february and on my Galaxy SIII since June 19th, I haven't experienced any problems with mobile data, the link is below.
I hope it works.

Check your imei under the phone status. Do you have a 0? If so the same thing happened to me.
Do you have a back up of your /efs from the root?

Thank you for your response. I'm 99% sure it's not a Tmobile problem. I didn't have any issues with mobile data at all. This happend soon after i rebooted after flashing the tmobile Rom Manager custom recovery. First thing it did was give no signal connection at all. Then i reflashed the CM9 rom, which then was only able to get Edge network. Even after Odin'ing do i still only get Edge. I haven't tried a custom kernel yet. With certain devices, I've known of issues with modem's are sometimes fixed by flashing a standalone modem rather than going through the whole Odin process. But that isn't an option that is available for the T999 varient.

Yes it reads 0 and no i do not have an /efs backup. The root process I used was the Sprint root zip file flashing CWM and root using Odin. I wasn't aware of a backup that was made. After Odin'ing back to stock, i did the same root method and have flashed Redrum Lean Stock Mod which im currently on. Where would i find the /efs if this method did make a backup of it?
Question for curiosity s sake did you flask the cwm touch recovery
You should backup your EFS folder before flashing any rom, if you'd lost your IMEI you will have problems with mobile data and/or phone service.
I've found two topics about it here, the first one has a link to recover Tmobile and the second is more general. I hope it works!

You guys are freaking me out about losing IMEI. Thankfully mine is fine after rooted and flashing several ROMs.
How do I backup my EFS folder?
/sigh re-read all the imei threads, there's like 10 of them. Backing up the efs folder will not help you at all. The nv data.bin file is not there anymore and nobody has found it yet. Your only option is odin back to stock, take your phone back to where you bought it, and say this POS broke and i can't get lte even though i paid for it. If you're still under warranty hopefully they will replace it.

flashed new rom has signal but won't connect, asks for SIM network unlock PIN[SOLVED]

Hi
My SGS3 was originally on T mobile but then unlocked by the person who I bought the phone from months ago, but I accidentally wiped the whole thing including backups, so I had to use odin to flash a stock rom
I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
I then rooted my SGS3 successfully using the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit
then I flashed the Android Revolution HD 11.0.0 rom
but now although my phone has signal, it asks for a SIM network unlock PIN after boot. I can dismiss this and carry on using the phone but it won't connect to my network (which is three)
I have the Voodoo Galaxy SIII sim unlock app but that says READ ERROR when detecting the lock
also, I can't even make emergency calls because it says 'out of service area'
can I flash a kernel or something like that?
I apologise for my ignorance, I haven't done anything like this for a while....
I'd appreciate any advice
Zain
Voodoo SIM unlock doesn't work on newer firmware. Flash back to an older firmware and you can unlock it again.

Did you go from 4.1.2 to 4.3 then try to go back to 4.1.2? If so you need to look for the thread that shows you how to recover your efs partition. Efs went to a new version at 4.3 so no going back without a backup!.
