[Q] Wifi Error after leedroid - HTC EVO 3D

Hi, I'm having some problems with my Evo 3D GSM (Mexican, telcel, actual name here is EVO Inspire 3d for some reason, HBOOT: 1.49.0016, unlocked by htcdev method, S-ON) Initially I was trying to downgrade the HBOOT to achieve S-Off, however it seems that is impossible due to my CID: bstar301.
My problem is, after installing Leedroid, I cant get wifi to work, I searched and found many with similar issues, however when I try replacing the wifi module, or installing it through recovery it doesn't fix anything, at this point I would rather fash back to my shipped rom, but I just cant seem to find it.
I admit I still am a total noob, but I do want to learn, I'm not looking for a straigthforward method to fix this, I just have some questions:
1.- Since my device is S-ON, when I flashed leedroid it didn't touch the radio nor the kernel right?
2.- Then, the problem with wifi is in the rom itself, not on the radio nor kernel?
3.- If so, can flashing a different custom rom fix it?
Thanks!

Hey,
Dont worry I can guide you through this.
The problem is not with the ROM, nor the Kernal,
As you are on S-ON the ROM cannot access the internal utilities of the phone. Just think, that the ROM cannot touch your wi-fi parts, bla bla.
So what you have to do is, install the kernal using ADB commands, which will forcefully write it to the phone memory. OK
First download this kernal :
LeeDrOiD Shooter - GSM Kernel V5.4 Final GB - 2.6.35.14(FTP), Extract the content in to a easy location. (See there is a file called boot.img inside)
Download android tools and put it in to C:/Android. Boot your phone in to bootloader menu (i.e Vol Down + Power), Connect your phone (Youll see its connected via USB on bootloader menu)
Now go to command prompt and type below codes.
C:\Android>fastboot devices ---> Shows weather the device is connected correctly
If its ok, Now go to this step.
Prompt:/>fastboot flash boot C:/<the ROm unzipped location>/boot.img
When its done. Type below
Prompt:/>fastboot reboot
Now you have flashed the kernal :d check wifi ,, it should work now.
Otherwise let me know
say thanks cheers mate

thank you so much, that did it, I have wifi again!

Glad to hear that it helped you mate
Enjoy!!

Synergy 476 and above all kill my wireless.

If I reflash back to 475, my wireless works fine. I reported it as an issue, but they said it isn't one and it is working for everyone else. I'm trying to find out why it won't work on my Evo3d, but it works on everyone elses.
I have reflashed all of the latest nightlies and even tried to do 482 about 5 times today. I used the superwipe tools, with and without ext tweaks, repartitions, reformats, wipes and everything I could try and still no luck.
It flashes fine, but wireless and 4g do not turn on. So, I just gave up and now I'm back at 475. It seems as though the kernel change makes it so that I can't use wireless. Is there a kernel separate from the build that I could try reflashing, or is it just built into the build and there isn't anything I can do?
I'm just getting into rom flashing and whatnot and could use some help. Thanks.
Are you rooted with HTC's unlock method? If so, like me, there is a workaround that allows you to flash a kernel other than the stock one (Starting on Synergy 476, it will have ziggy kernel). The HTC method doesn't let you flash a different kernel than stock. Even though it looks like it succeeded.
In this thread, you can follow the directions on how to flash TWRP recovery (post #1) and how to flash a rom with custom kernel (Post #2)
I did use the HTC unlocker on hboot 1.50. Then I used the fastboot usb method to gain perma root. I didn't have any issues until ziggys kernel was apparently put back in. I will look into following those instructions you linked.
Thanks man, much appreciated.
Thanks for trying. However, I followed that guide to the letter and wireless still does not work on Build 483. When I try and turn it on it just says, "Error." Also says, "Unable to start 4g."
When at the HBOOT screen at the top it says:
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.5.0.0000
eMMC-boot
Aug 7 2011, 10:21:40
When I boot into Recovery I am now using twrp but using superwipe, dataext4 optimized, and then flash 483 everything works like it should... I just don't have any overclocking ability, wireless and 4g both don't work.
There are posts all over this forum saying that even though it says S-ON that I should still be able to flash any rom or Kernel. I am beginning to think that is not the case.
S-ON = not fully unlocked
You'll need to flash the kernel through fastboot mode.
I got it working! Finally flashed 483 and have wireless support. I was able to do this by using this information from JTNiggle and your suggestion to flash from fastboot:
So to do this for yourself, first, download your rom of choice.
Then use 7zip or another utility to open the archive and copy out the boot.img, put that boot.img on the root of your sdcard before you flash ur rom.
Boot into recovery and wipe as necessary, then flash ur rom. When finished, while still in recovery, go back to main menu and pick advanced menu, then reboot menu, then pick bootloader.
Once it boots to fastboot usb, you can do this from a command prompt from ur sdk tools folder,
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
it will give you an output sbout being okay, and once finished, you can do,
Code:
fastboot reboot
And ur good to go, you should boot into your rom just as you would expect, happy as a clam. Hopefully this is something that will be able to be fixed along the way so that you don't have to do these steps. Heck, there may be an easier way now, but I'm no dev, so I'll leave it to someone who is.

Anyway, I appreciate the help from you two.

WiFi broken, no methods working.

i have hboot 1.49.1107 and i seem to be the only person on here with that version.
my WiFi won't work on any rom, even a rogers rom. this is extremely irritating because when i sync with google it tries to sync all of my apps on 3g. this happened once and used 160mb of my data.
i tried re-packing roms with the wifi module, bla bla bla i've tried it all.
i was on a rom before that had wifi working, then i tried to upgrade to a new rom, no wifi, unfortunately no backup because i've never had such a problem. every other rom wifi is broken.
can someone please help me? i just haven't sync'd with google at all now, because it will just rape my data.

i've tried flashing roms but not just the kernel. does that usually work? i'll try it now.
nope, didn't work.
i'm trying to flash an older recovery and then flashing a rom, maybe it's the recovery i have no idea at this point.
does this have to do with my Hboot version? i've never heard anyone talk about this version before. does anybody have the wifi module file from a stock rogers rom with 1.49.1107 hboot?

I have the same hboot with rogers. I don't think its anything weird. It happens after using revolutionary. I'm not sure what your issue is but I've flashed radios and kernels through cwm and didn't have problems.
Also this is dev forum not q&a

Did you capture a nandroid backup before flashing a custom ROM? If so, you can always get the kernel (boot.img) from the backup folder. This can be flashed using "fastboot" while your phone is in bootloader but not until you restore your custom ROM (flashing a ROM updates your kernel so you need to flash your custom kernel afterwards). The command is:
fastboot flash boot c:\somefolder\boot.img
You also need the matching wifi driver. Easiest way is to restore your nandroid backup and copy the \system\lib\modules\bcm4329.ko to your SD card. You can copy this file back after restoring your custom ROM

Hboot 1.49.1107 arose because you use the revolutionary tools. Those HBoot 0007, after the tool has revolutionized the Hboot 1107. This is completely normal
soliution try it
dear have u tried kingcobra 3d ???
if not then
donwload the latest version
then install it using sd card but remember do full wipe of ur device before installation
even from advance menu too
then install it
if it stucks at boot screen then

connect ur device with computer using fastboot
then push the boot.img file from the same rom u downloaded and installed (kingcobra)
then reboot ur device
if dont knw how push the boot.img
tthen tell me i ll explain it to u
not sure if it works on the GSM 3ds, but on CDMA that are unlocked but S-ON we can use an app called FlashImageGUI that'll flash kernels from within the OS. Usually fixes wifi problems, and doesn't require using fastboot.
However, that's CDMA, do not know what it would do to a GSM

yes thats the one I was talking about . It works well on gsm
There is another method that discovered by those ppl in Taiwan.
1. Boot your device into fastboot.
2. Connect your device to computer. (phone screen should now changed to 'fastboot usb')
3. Open cmd and type 'fastboot boot recovery.img' (providing you have all the required files as well as recovery image)
4. Flash the rom as usually.
We all know that HTCDev does not give full access to bootloader when we unlock. So his way gives your the highest permission of recovery.
Give a try and hope it works.

what files do you need? the entire rom? or just the recovery?
i've used fastboot to do the recovery.img then the boot.img and still no wifi, then i tried flashing the rom as usual, then flashing a custom kernel through the GUI app, and still no wifi.
looks like this is an actual hardware problem, reverted back to stock rogers RUU and still no WiFi.
Here's a flashable zip I created to fix my Wifi issues. May be worth a shot.
This is whats happening to me too, i had wifi working before on stock rom, but once i fashed a custom one in there, i tried turning WiFi on, and all it says is ERROR under the wifi icon in settings..
im trying to flash custom kernel and hope it fixes it...
Moved to proper forum.

[Q] LeeDroid v5.4 and Evo3D GSM - Wifi not working?

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have just flashed the latest version of LeeDroid v5.4 onto my EVO3D. Everything works except wifi.
My EVO3D is GSM and Hboot 1.49.0018 has been unlocked via htcdev,
security is still S-ON as I do not intend to flash a new kernel.
I have flashed revolution recovery into the phone as well.
Everything from LeeDroid 5.4 works except WIFI, which is unable to be enabled. It says an error.
Could someone please lend me a hand please?
Many thanks
fliptoback
Did you try the solution mentioned in the FAQ on leedroid.com?
Hi, thanks for the quick response.
I had a look of the faq previously...to my understanding, the faq with reference to the wifi issue refers to wifi calling (TMOUS)...I am not quite sure what that means though...
Could u pls clarify?
Thanks again.
Edit: I googled a bit more on wifi calling and I believe this is a service provided by T-Mobile? I am in Australia and we don't have this kind of wifi calling service here.
Is this patch still relevant to my current issue with LeeDroid not able to enable WIFI? Thanks again.
I dont really know if it helps, but I guess it shouldn't hurt your phone. The patch seems to be an apk file and is named SignalBoost.apk, so I would definitely try it.
Did you enable the "*Optional Orange UK Signal boost/WiFi calling selectable in Aroma" on installing? Maybe this option is a problem.
It could be that the stock kernel is not compatible, but I did not see any information that it wouldn't.
S-Off your unit and flash kernel...
Thanks guys for your response.
Is flashing the kernel the only way to resolve this? To flash the kernel I would need to downgrade the bootloader before I can do S-off.
You can flash the Kernel via ADB-commands.
Take the file boot.img from the rom archive.
Put it in the directory on your computer, that contains ADB.exe and fastboot.exe.
Enter to the HBOOT (hold volume(-) and press power, then choose fastboot)
Connect to the computer vith USB (You'll see "Fastboot USB" on the device screen)
Open CMD, navigate (in DOS-window) to your ADB-directory and write:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
The phone will reboot, you have WiFi. The problem caused because you are S-ON.

Just download and install flash image gui app either from the forums (free, forgot where the link is) or from market for about $1. This let's you flash kernels with ease. Might help to wipe dalvik and cache as well as fix permissions afterwards too.
Or just install 4ext recovery and use their smartflash enabled mode.
Hope this helps get it working! I'm Aussie, s-on, and never bothered to downgrade either.

Thanks ozlokie!!!!
I followed your advice, bought the $1 flash image gui from google play, use it to flash the latest kernel to the phone, reboot and I HAVE WIFI!!!!
All without downgrading hboot and mucking around with S-off.
I can't believe this is not documented elsewhere on the internet! I have been searching all day and see nothing like this mentioned.
That app is a GEM. Thanks again ozlokie and thanks again everyone who chip in and try to help.
I can finally take a rest from the PC now. It has been a looooonng day.

need help for stock return

I am an unfortunate rookie, and have made mistakes, hence the name. I want to return my phone to stock from htcdev unlock, s-on, hboot 1.5. with a boot loop on meanom ICS for the evo 3d. I have tried to use older ruu shooters. Relock with fastbot oem lock, and then pg86img. However with the bootloop I can not access anything unless I unlock again, and then go into recovery. This is all that I can think of at the moment that might help.
Kill the rookie!!! PLEASE HELP!!
I had much the same problem with my cdma, hboot 1.5, S-On shooter. When I was S-On none of the ICS roms would work. The all bootlooped on me. If you follow the rooting method found here on xda, it will get you back to a stock Rooted GB Rom.
go into hboot -> fastboot USB-> run command dos -> fastboot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.IMG -> flash the 2.17 firmware-> enjoy.
I had to S-off with Juopunutbear, then re-run that root/flash to get past the bootloops.

Unfortunately I have tried that and it still is not working.
My only suggestion would be to try it a few times, other then that, its above my head.

Have you tried one of the ruu exe files that you run from your computer? If you are trying to go stock, you should be able to relock the bootloader and run the ruu and that's it.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
First of all I want to thank everyone that has been attempting to assist me with my problem. I have tried to relock since I am on htcdev unlock and then run an ruu force via my computer. I get an installation aborted error when trying to flash pg86img via recovery. I don't know what else to say.
You can't flash a bootloader zip from recovery. You have to flash it from hboot. Also make sure the zip is named correctly "PG86IMG.zip" without the quotes. Also make sure the zip is on the root of your sd as in not in any folders. Once you've named the zip correctly and placed it correctly then power off the phone. Hold down the volume down button and tap the power button. You should boot into the bootloader wait until the phone recognizes the zip and follow the on screen instructions. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you again. I tried your directions, it did recognize the pg86img. However it did not give me any instructions to follow. It did however allow me to be able to a partial stock state. My software version is still on the teamgenesis sense v2.9 cdma. Although I do like some of the features on this rom, I would still like to be able to get the OTA of ICS when it is released. Any suggestions?

To get the ota release (if it ever comes ) I do believe you will need to be locked and running the existing gingerbread rom. While I am not positive, I think the system uses the props file to determine if an update is applicable, and it will likely not recognize the teamgenesis rom version as being upgradeable.
Now I will likely get flames for saying this, but if you want to put the meanrom v2.4 of ICS on the phone, it can be done with s-on, you just need to follow the correct process. I ran that rom for a while, and it is very stock like, stable, and has a few enhancements that you will not find on a non-rooted stock rom. I never found anything wrong or not working with that rom.
To get it to load, first I downloaded flashimagegui from market, put the meanrom zip file on the sd card and made sure I had a recovery that I could get into. I am using TWRP v2.1.1, lots of folks talk about others like ext4, and I am only going to say use whichever you like, after all it is your phone.
Then with the phone unlocked via the htc method, I started the flashimage app, and browsed to the meanrom file. It extracted the kernel and flashed it. Once that was done, with clear cache buttons selected, rebooted to recovery, and used the install menu selection of TWRP to again flash the same rom file. Once it flashed the file, selected clear cache and dalvik just to be safe, selected reboot system, and it worked great.
Have a great weekend.
So, apparently I am still doing something wrong. I have put the pg86img on the root, relocked to the bootloader, and let it run it's course. However, it will get through with reading it and stops and does not finish anything with loading the system information. I have also tried to run the ruu via usb connection. I keep running into a c++ issue saying runtime error. I have wiped everything and thankfully I did make a backup of the rom and other information that I was runing so I can currently fall back on that.
I am on hboot 1.5, 2.17, and teamgenesis ICS rom for evo 3d.
Apparently there have been rumors that Sprint has finally released the ICS OTA, not that it really matters anymore, but I have run into a few interesting glitches, such as WIFI not staying connected while asleep or disconnecting.
If I have to I am willing to pay to do a netmeeing with someone in order to be able to fix this.
Sorry if it sounds like I am getting frustrated, but I have tried every walkthrough that I have found and have not had any luck with any of them.
Please help.
I forgot to say I am s-on

you're s-off. dont think you need to unlock bootloader. if you're looking for something close to stock I'd recommend you look into this rom. I know its not stock but its much better. you wont lose 3d capabilities as its sense 3.6.

If the above link seems a bit difficult to understand I've detailed what you need to do
Its really easy to do it on your own. Just need a few things to set up on your pc/laptop
Install these drivers first: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Then dl this and extract it in a folder in C:\ drive : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/mini-adb.zip
Name that folder "android". Now download this recovery(4EXT recovery):http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/recovery.img
Place this recovery.img in android folder
Now open cmd and type "cd C:\android"
Now boot into bootloader and connect your phone to pc and select fastboot on your phone. It should say FASTBOOT USB in red on your phone. This is very important because it shows whether your phone is properly connected or not.
type "fastboot devices" and see if your phone is listed
IF your phone is detected then type this command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
then to boot into recovery type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
recorvy is not being installed whenever i try it shows remote failed... snapshot attached
oh crap. frogot this completely. This isnt a problem with custom hboots like revolutionary hboot(which is what i use). What you need to do is unlock bootloader from htcdev before you can flash recovery. after that it doesnt matter whether you are unlocked or locked if you want to flash rom.
just follow the instructions at htcdev and you'll get your unlock token

OR just flash a custom bootloader. Much easier

i am afraid that unlocking through htc dev may make my phone to 'S-ON' as i last time tried it unlocked the loader and made it to s-on and tried some custom roms but all roms were giving the same error that the bootimage can not be created so then a local developer somehow managed to write the rom through J-TACK but the camera & wifi are still not working so i dont wanna go this way again... so any better idea???

Friend, I again suggest never try HTC dev .. For custom boot loader you can go there:-
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
1. Download both hboot of your phone like hboot 1.49.9999 for gb and 1.53.5353 for ics..
2. I think your are on ICS (check you are on android 4.0.3) then choose 1.53.5353 and rename it to " PG86IMG.zip" ..
3. Copy this file into root folder of SD card..
4. Switch off the phone.
5. Go to boot loader with pressing power and vol. - button at same time .
6. Once you go to the boot loader , boot loader scan "" PG86IMG.zip"" and after scaning bootloader ask for update ..
7.. After update.. You can check you bootloader version is 1.53.5353 with no "locked" and "unlocked" statement instead he say jopunetbear..
8. Try again flash recovery with adb and fast boot(you known the procedure already)..
I try this method to get root again after flashing ruu(as PG86IMG.zip),
Hope this will working for you also....

No htcdev cannot turn s-off to.s-on. You said you tried it last time and it made it s-on. But I guess you tried the write secureflag command also.
If you don't want to unlock, then don't unlock it, just flash another hboot.

you're s-off. dont think you need to unlock bootloader. if you're looking for something close to stock I'd recommend you look into this rom. I know its not stock but its much better. you wont lose 3d capabilities as its sense 3.6.
If you insist on stock then you might wanna run an RUU and get back to stock. Get the "RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.exe" ruu. Most of the phones in pak come from Europe

I tried your 'RUU' link and tried the .exe file but it gave error that it cannot be updated... I'll try the zip file 2day.
I have tried different roms like firstly sad ics then yoda ics nd now running cool ics for gsm but infacr camera is not working at Ll i have updated all tue kernals and firmware and the rom but camera still not working wats its sol??? How can i make it work???
if you have camera problems with every rom then its probably a hardware issue
