is this a new ROM installation? If so go back to the previous working ROM you were using. I've actually gone back to the Froyo CM 6.1.1 on my phone to go back to basics. CM7 is a nice ROM, but still has it's glitches.
It happened when I put cm7 on so yeah I switched it up and still nothing

Basic Troubleshooting
So as a side note, I'm pretty sure this thread doesn't go in the dev forum.
On to the troubleshooting:
FIRST & MOST IMPORTANT STEP
1. Does you have the same problem if you put your sim in another phone?
if yes, then it is a sim/network problem and you will have to call your carrier.
(DON'T TELL THEM YOU'VE BEEN RUNNING CUSTOM ROM'S! lazy call center
reps will tell you that is why your sim/service isn't working so they don't have to
put any work into fixing your problem)
if no, then continue to step 2.
2. What happens when you try to place a call?
Do you see or hear an error message?
3. What does your phone think the status of its calling abilities are?
does it show signal strength? does it show any unusual icons in the status bar?
4. is the problem location specific?
have you tested the phone at least 7 miles from the location where your first experienced the problem? are other peoples phones on the same service having the same problem as you?
Check the wifi calling app and make sure it is not set to WIFI ONLY. This will disable your radio.
Fixed thanks guys

so now that .19 verzion mobile hotspot works so well, i was wondering if it'spossible to extract the files and move to any rom. i have tried but must not get all the files needed. can anyone tell me which files they are and if it can be done. or if someone can make a flashable file that can inject the hotspot to any sense rom. i use it daily out on the road and since update has been flawless for me. but so many devs take it out. any help would be appreciated very much.
Most of the devs take it out because most of us use the wireless tether app. I would say try using roms that have it in them already.

Using one now. But it's stock. And with kernel problems on 19 I was thinking of moving hotspot to. 9 custom rom. I seem to get better service on 4G and better voice and data at same time using hotspot. Just figured one of the devs here that delete all the files would know the names of them and might help me out by letting me know which ones they are.

I have a galaxy s2 rooted and running custom roms and it randomly drops all its mobile coverage even if its in full service areas.... Sometimes when it does it the service will come back up after a couple of minutes but most times i have to reboot for it to come back up.... I thought it might have been the rom i was running but i've since changed roms twice and i still have the same issue.... Can someone please help??

Chances are you are on a CM10 based rom, and what you are experiencing is a RIL crash. Sometimes it's nothing major, reception just drops off for a second then reconnects on it's own, other times it will completely drop off and require you to re-enter your SIM-PIN if you have one.
So don't worry about it, this is just one of those little things you have to deal with when you go the path of custom roms.
Your options are:
a) Drop back to CM9 or an ICS rom
b) Drop back to stock - official, not leaked.
c) Get over it
My favorite is option c) and is the one I took. I always come crawling back to the latest CM eventually so I've just submitted to ignoring the little issues and enjoying the familiarity I have with Cyan roms.
Just keep updating regularly and I'm sure it will be fixed eventually, or at least show signs of improvement
EDIT: Also check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881304
Find a suitable modem (even the same as what you currently use) and flash the package from that thread. It flashes more than just the modem. For me it helped slightly, though possibly only as a placebo. Either way I'm happier for flashing it.
Thanks for that mate.... I wasnt hugely worried just wondering weather it was a common issue.... I reckon ill choose option c also lol...

happens on mine also... i just restart my phone. problem is usually it crashes when a call comes in... but ohh well Ill get over it. running cm10
If you don't even know which thread to check for your custom ROM, you PROBABLY shouldn't be running a custom ROM...

So it's not the Telco's fault?
Na not telcos i can sit next to 3 or 4 other phones on same provider and mine is only one to do it....

With the given ok from danutzz, the originator of turboprop (which this is based off of), comes GSM Auto-Script. What this does is sed out the ril/network values in build.prop, replaces them and creates a backup of build.prop. Also extracts/overwrites apns-conf.xml. This of course will ONLY WORK PROPERLY on an AOSP rom.
Enjoy!
PS: The creator of the apns-conf.xml please come forward as I am unsure of whom it is.
The creator has been found! Thank you siulmagic!!
PLEASE ONLY RUN THIS AMON -RA, Have not tested this on any other recovery!
Changelog:
v2
Re-built edify script using specific file extracts instead of directory extracts.
v1
Initial release
Awesome to see this posted .
Special thanks to Neo for providing us with the ril properties to change.
Credit to siulmagic for the original find.
Also, I've used this on twrp 2.3.2.3. The newer versions didn't work.

To be clear, this will allow a rezound running an aosp ROM to run on a gsm network? I had read in the past that the changes wipe data on your phone. Is this still the case? What about reverting back for CDMA Lte use? I am asking in case I want to travel to countries with gsm networks but use my rezound.

You are correct but it doesnt wipe data, GSM AOSP on the Rezound. Should only need a nand backup to restore back to CDMA/LTE.

I don't believe these changes will wipe data, but they do need to be done on a fresh install in order to pickup the new apns and ril settings. From what I can gather, the ril changes basically just force the phone to boot into gsm by default. Thus the phone will be using any gsm carrier apns by default. I don't know about "switching back" to cdma afterword as I don't use a cdma network anymore, but I don't think that's how it works.
Anyone who has a better idea on how the network settings work please feel free to correct me if any of my assumptions are wrong.

Thanks for the info. Mind sharing what carrier you are using and what kind of connection you have? We are able to get HSDPA+ with our radios, right?

I'm on tmobile. I can only pick up edge network, but with some radio edits found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32331786, you can enable hspa with att towers. So far, no luck with tmobile. That might change once they refarm their spectrum, but I'm not in one of those areas to test.

Tested this with infection and it doesn't seem to be working as expected. I'll try to troubleshoot, but it added an extra etc folder to the root directory (not system). Also, it didn't update the build prop. Tried on twrp 2.3.2.3 (working before) and 2.4 and no luck.
I rebuilt the rom zip adding in the prop edits and the apn xml pre-flash and that all worked. Seems like cm10.1 doesn't like anything being flashed before booting. It just kept giving me system crashes.

I will rebuild it without using the symlink to etc.

Just tested it. Seemed to sort of work. It was searching for a sim but said I didn't have one installed. Adding apns is a no go, but I suspect from reading, if I understand correctly, its supposed to be that way.
Does not seem to work with Infection rom yet. Was the issue fixed in v2 ? Does not even show the Cyanogen Mod boot logo - just a plain black screen
i hope someone can get gsm working for infection, as its my only way to use the phone.
but anyways keep up the good work guys!

I may be a bit off the mark here but on the other roms when GSM is enabled you can navigate to Settings>Data Usage and toggle Mobile Data on/off.. With Infection when the patch is run it doesn't even show the Mobile Data toggle. Don't know if it really means anything but I've noticed this...
Well we know what's not working. Just no idea WHY it's not working. Neo will have a patch out soon, I'm sure. Hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with this and 10.1. Works fine on all other AOSP roms. Both ics and jb. Something to do with 4.2.1 breaks it.

seems like a running issue with 4.2.1
I recently flashed the 2.3.5 Hybrid locked rom. I also installed the volume key wake up. Is there any ways to undo this so called tweak? It's starting to annoy me, phone unlocks and causes mayhem when in my pockets.
Thanks.
One other thing (Locked Hybrid Rom) : Is there any way to 1. Update PRL or the Profile? 2. Enable 4g (I know there's no 4g yet..) maybe a tweak (Going on vacation in a huge 4g area for 3 weeks.. 3. Some how change between stock and this rom without losing any data and such? Sorry, I don't know that much
Sorry if it in the wrong thread or place... Thanks for all your help.

1. Don't know you may have to look around.
2. Not possible since the ROM used doesn't support 4G.
3. Backup your stuff with bootstrap
Thanks for the fast reply. I can't use bootstrap for backup since I can't restore. Can I some how dual boot? Thanks

For volume wake extract tegra-kbl.kl from hybrid rom using winrar (system/user/kelayout is the path) and replace the terra-kbl.kl of your phone with it using root explorer and change permission to rw-r-r and reboot
