Try downloading a very stable rom (like anything.... doesn't matter what) and switching the phone signal files
EDIT: DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!! THIS WONT WORK.... SORRY I CANT HELP YOU BUT DO NOT TRY THIS METHOD

is this a new ROM installation? If so go back to the previous working ROM you were using. I've actually gone back to the Froyo CM 6.1.1 on my phone to go back to basics. CM7 is a nice ROM, but still has it's glitches.
It happened when I put cm7 on so yeah I switched it up and still nothing

Basic Troubleshooting
So as a side note, I'm pretty sure this thread doesn't go in the dev forum.
On to the troubleshooting:
FIRST & MOST IMPORTANT STEP
1. Does you have the same problem if you put your sim in another phone?
if yes, then it is a sim/network problem and you will have to call your carrier.
(DON'T TELL THEM YOU'VE BEEN RUNNING CUSTOM ROM'S! lazy call center
reps will tell you that is why your sim/service isn't working so they don't have to
put any work into fixing your problem)
if no, then continue to step 2.
2. What happens when you try to place a call?
Do you see or hear an error message?
3. What does your phone think the status of its calling abilities are?
does it show signal strength? does it show any unusual icons in the status bar?
4. is the problem location specific?
have you tested the phone at least 7 miles from the location where your first experienced the problem? are other peoples phones on the same service having the same problem as you?
Check the wifi calling app and make sure it is not set to WIFI ONLY. This will disable your radio.
Fixed thanks guys

I'm not sure they'll want to help you if your running unofficial firmware.
chances are they wont have any idea where to look either lol
do you just need to know your number?
what ROM are you guys running?
Same thing happening here. In phone status in settings the phone number says "unknown."
Running leaked JK6 stock.
Doesn't seem to be causing in problems, but it would be nice to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm using the JK6 ROM. Yeah it just wont show the phone #. I'm just worried that when the official 2.2 does come out I wont be able to get it OTA since my number doesn't show up.

you'd be better off just going back to stock firmware for an OTA update.
they have a tendency to soft brick non stock phones.
also most custom and leaked roms have OTA's disabled anyways, which gives you only two options:
1. wait for someone to make a custom rom out of the OTA and then just flash it.
2. go back to stock firmware.
either way works.

as far as I can tell, its only that rom that has that problem.
I'm running Froyo myself (Eugene's Macnut R13) and mine shows up just fine.
There was a thread on this very topic last week.
Call t mobile, tell them, they reset something, reboot your phone.
Also, this should have nothing to do with ota updates.
When you create threads, doesn't it show similar threads?
Yeah I saw the same thread. I'm gonna give them a call and I'll post back how I made out.

I gave T-Mobile a call and I talked to a person in the Android division. I told him what my problem was and he pushed a couple of things to my phone. He then told me to take out my SIM card and restart my phone. After I did all of this my phone # is still coming up as Unknown. He told me the only thing else he could think of is to get a new SIM. I asked him if my Phone # coming up Unknown will prevent me from getting any OTA updates and he said he wasn't sure. One thing I'm not sure of though is can I Odin back to JI6 or should I Flash to JDF first then JI6. I want to make sure I don't miss to Official Froyo OTA. Other than that I guess I'm screwed.

New sim card will not affect you from getting the OTA update.i had to switch sims and I got the JI6 update OTA.so dont worry
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks man. I know that a new SIM wont affect OTA'S. What I'm referring to is that if my Phone # is showing Unknown in my Phone Status, will that affect me getting any Updates. Everything else on my phone is fine. I can get and receive text messages and my Caller ID is working also.

couple questions...
1. are you on t-mobile?
2. weather your on t-mobile or with someone else, is your phone unlocked?
If you guys are locked to t-mobile then you can stick your sim card in another tmobile phone (not another android phone) I've heard sony ericson's, and some samsung's work and even an unlocked iphone will do it.
then just go to my number on that phone and it will let you program your number in.
then just put it back in your android phone and it should be back.
if you are unlocked and want to do the above steps, (this is unverified and it might work just fine using another a locked phone), but just follow the steps above with an unlocked sony ericson or samsung (or probably any other non smart phone that lets you edit your own number)
If you are unlocked, and running on a different carrier using the same number you used on tmobile, call tmobile as they sometimes give trouble porting numbers to other carriers.
if all of this fails then you might need a new sim card.
some people also got tmobile to do this OTA for them, but it did not work for everyone.
Thanks. I'm on T-Mobile. The only other phone I have is a Cliq XT. I'll give it a try but its an Android. I'll try it anyway. If it doesn't work
I'll go get a new SIM Card.

I'm pretty certain a new SIM won't fix the problem. I played around with this and T-Mo actually told me to call Samsung to fix it. Anyway, the only thing that unknown number caused a problem for me is my Verizon Fios Remote DVR app. The app wouldn't work because it is registered to my phone number and it couldn't figure out what my number is.
I'm sure it's just the problem with JK6 itself.
I haven't had any problems at all so far. Everything seems to be working fine with this ROM. I checked out everything that I could think of that my phone number would be needed for. My caller I'd is fine, Bluetooth is working, SMS & MMS are fine also. Hopefully it's not affecting anything major. Like I said the only thing I'm concerned about is not being able to get the Official 2.2 OTA when it's finally released. If I cant I'll just Flash back to JDF then to JI6 to be able to receive it if I have to. Thanks

Do you guys even read any information or do you flash blindly?
You cannot get an OTA update with a custom rom, you'll have to flash to an official t mobile rom in order to OTA.
The missing phone number under status happens in every single JK6 rom, it's one of the known "bugs" if you can even call it that. It shouldn't affect anything at all. I've only heard of it affecting some dvr app but even then only 1 person has reported it.

Hello... looking for anyone who can help me. The problem I am having is when I charge the phone or let it sit idle for awhile I will show no signal on the status bar. When I go into settings --- status ---- it shows I have a signal which should be close to full bars. I can not make a call or send text messages which makes sense because the status bar is showing no signal, however I can still receive calls and text messages. The only way I have found to correct this is to reboot the phone. I am currently rooted and unlocked running Dorian's redpill hybrid. I was also experiencing this with bat2f so I thought I would switch roms to see if it was a bad flash. I have also reflashed my radio N_01.77.30P several times with no change. I am also using clemsyns 1.0ghz elite kernel and undervolted with set CPU. I hope someone can help me with this problem, thank you to anyone who reads this and chimes in.
Thanks

For some reason when I use search on taptalk it doesn't pull up anything to do with fruitcakes... the only fruitcake I found was for German users. Thanks caelan for your advice... once I find that radio I will try it out and let you know what happens.

Hey don't know if this is a motolib related issue or not....but I currently have the latest cm10 build by joker 0.2.0. gsm. I currently am using airfire mobile as my service plan since it works great in my location. However everytime when I call out, it always ends the call right away then it'll wait then automatically call out again which will then be successful. is there any way to fix this double calling up thing by chance? I've tried wiping and installing fresh with no prevail. if I do need to logcat, how would I do so? I would like to give my thanks to all the developers who made this possible to have jb on the photon. Thank you!

Not sure if it is your problem, my dropped call was somewhat different than you had, but running Joker's latest CM10 I kept having outgoing call issues right away.
Turns out all my calls failed if they started with a 1, and worked if they just started with the area code. Updating my address book to delete the 1 prefixes fixed the issue. Strange, and again, no idea if that will be your solution or not, but can't hurt.
If all else fails try using one of th3bills lovely ROMs

Chances are you are on a CM10 based rom, and what you are experiencing is a RIL crash. Sometimes it's nothing major, reception just drops off for a second then reconnects on it's own, other times it will completely drop off and require you to re-enter your SIM-PIN if you have one.
So don't worry about it, this is just one of those little things you have to deal with when you go the path of custom roms.
Your options are:
a) Drop back to CM9 or an ICS rom
b) Drop back to stock - official, not leaked.
c) Get over it
My favorite is option c) and is the one I took. I always come crawling back to the latest CM eventually so I've just submitted to ignoring the little issues and enjoying the familiarity I have with Cyan roms.
Just keep updating regularly and I'm sure it will be fixed eventually, or at least show signs of improvement
EDIT: Also check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881304
Find a suitable modem (even the same as what you currently use) and flash the package from that thread. It flashes more than just the modem. For me it helped slightly, though possibly only as a placebo. Either way I'm happier for flashing it.
Thanks for that mate.... I wasnt hugely worried just wondering weather it was a common issue.... I reckon ill choose option c also lol...

Thx.

Pick anyone, it's better for sure. I use Kingsoft Miui on Semaphore kernel, I know it's way better than Bionix 1.3.1 or Biwinning or no matter what Froyo you can think of. Go ahead, it's time to upgrade.
+1, all of the 4.1.2 ROMs , IMO, are stable. There has been great progress with GPS in these ROMs as well. Upgrade, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

And also uninstalled the GPS Status app I had, it seemed to be interrupting the gps from working well. That's it, hope all problems are gone now...

Be warned that gps fixes that replace blobs can mix badly with emergency dialing and can cause intermittent (and in at least one case constant) RIL crashes when dialing an emergency number.

Also intermittent means it could work 90% but crash 10% of the time, so one test may not be conclusive. But frankly, I'm not sure if SlimBean uses the right libraries in the first place. prbassplayer/kravind can correct me if I'm wrong though.
How a 911 call is different from a regular call anyway? Why if regular numbers are working 911 won't?

Samsung used a special RIL request code for emergency numbers, so when we detect an emergency number, we use that code. When it does an emergency call it uses a command related to GPS and if the GPS libraries are out of whack, then the RIL can crash or receive corrupt GPS readings.
And also, 911 has to work even if no SIM card is present.

Ahhhhh, seems like the wake lock problem haven't gone away... It depends on how I reboot my phone, also I'm still unable to get a GPS fix.
I think this is the last Samsung device I'll bought, instead of making new devices every 3 weeks it would be better if they actually supported their devices by updating the os for instance...geeee.

I don't think that's possible since you change your location.
You can use an external GPS which will surely provide a better lock than the internal GPS.
