i just got my amaze yesterday, i installed the official ics OTA this morning, and now i want to root it. Does the one click root program work for the Amaze while it is on stock ics or would i have to downgrade?
I'm not sure, Look for hasoons all in one tool in the dev section. Has recoveries root and another one specifically for s off. You will find you will use his tool if you flash constantly

Hasoons tool wouldnt work for me when i updated to the WIND ICS OTA, i had to find the sudo package and install it via recovery. it did work for me in gingerbread.. just a heads up..
No one click. Read the stickies... Learn about unlocking bootloaders, 4 ext recovery, flashing superuser in recovery, and supercid. It's all rather simple. PLENTY of threads about it.

Ok guys Ive never rooted a phone. I've never had the balls to do so but I'm tempted to do so. Ok first of all why should I root? Second how do I root? Would I be voiding my warranty? and I need someone to guide me I'm not the smartest nor dumbest computer user. I would I truly appreciate if someone who has time to show me how to get this done I truly don't want to screw up my phone. thanks in advance for those that take time to respond.

First of all, you can only root HBOOT 1.300 and HBOOT 1.400 devices. If you updated to OTA 2.08, you have HBOOT 1.500 and will need to wait for a root for that.
As to your first question, there are MANY MANY reasons to root. One thing you can do is use applications that require root access, such as free tethering or freezing applications. The major thing with rooting, however, is being able to change ROMs. Changing a ROM is basically like customizing the whole OS. You can do so many things! Rooting your phone and unlocking your NAND (Part of revolutionary process) is something that will make your life better.
Now, your section question asks how you root. As I said, if you are on HBOOT 1.500, you can't root your phone. To check your HBOOT version, you can power down and then hold volume down while booting back up. It will take you to the bootloader menu and at the top it should tell you which HBOOT version you have. If you are on HBOOT 1.300 or 1.4000, you can use the video walkthrough here: Video Walkthrough
I used the video walkthrough to root my own phone. Revolutionary root is in it's beta which means it's not perfect and its not like nothing can wrong.
Rooting will void your software warranty, but I heard sprint is changing that.
voiding the software? can you explain. Also i did receive the latest update so meaning i have to wait.

Well, the warranty on the phone is only for the software. This means if the phone one day decides to stop turning on, get a black screen, etc. you can still get it replaced for free. After you root it, they won't replace the phone for free the stuff above happens. They probably won't know that you're rooted if the phone completely stops turning on, though.
Got I guess I have to wait. Hopefully once the root for the update comes you can help if I were to have questions.. Thanks for taking time and answering must of my questions

yes like he said you will have to wait but it shouldn't be long.the reason for rooting are freeing up space on the phone, wifi tether for free, lots of great apps u cant get without root and of course the ability to customize as much as you like.now if u dont really want to do any of those things then i wouldnt root also rooting does void your warranty but u can always sbf back to stock and like it was said if u mess up to the point your phone wont turn on they will never know anyway.
edit: when or if you are ready to root and want help through the process let me know u can pm me its basically what i do these days lol i have helped about 10 people this week with rooting and roms
Thanks man. Both you guys have been very helpfull thanks I will for sure need

I shot the maid! What can I say? 3vo shooter
There are definitely ways to root via Hboot 1.500.000 IDK what these people are talking about....
You cannot get s-off if you didn't have it prior to the 1.5hboot but you can still flash kernels, roms, and radios...
If you'd still like to know how or need any help with the process let me know.
I did the over the air 2.08 update, what do I need to do to root me phone?
I was able to get my 3d rooted before the update and i have to say that i am so glad that i did. There are so many more options available to you after doing so as mentioned by previous posters. The abundance of ROMS is sweet! I like Viper the best for the moment but looking forward to a full AOSP.

Would this be the right procedure? I was reading the wiki and want to ask..
I would do the following...
(I am rooted; BulletProof 2.5.. Android 2.3.4 - Tmobile)
1) Follow this tutorial to unroot and get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27058110&postcount=44
2) Follow this tutorial to install ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26865752&postcount=27
3) AND...Then... I will be unrooted..
How would I root again on ICS?
So is this the right procedure??
and what would I do for (#3)?

You don't necessarily need to use my OTA tutorial if you're gonna restore to complete stock GB, then you can just download the file via the software update option on your phone and let it install the update itself, the guy above answered your final question already.

, go for it then. If you're on tmobile, there's a file that can be used as a PH85IMG to update instead, that may be a bit easier if the OTA is iffy.

Relocked is the same and when attempting s-off, stock rooted rom is a better call, it saves you the hassle that custom roms may cause.
I mean the MD5 sums fail on both PHP8img w/e name... and the nand backup to restore to original ginger garbage.. so I think it's because I have to relock my bootloader by doing OEM_lock or whatever the command is.
do I have to lock bootloader to go back to stock?
and also.. do I need to flash the original kernel?
come on.. someone answer me please... I will make a REALLY good tutorial noob proof for everyone else when I finish doing this.

I was also having problems with my downloads so I downloaded thru my phone. I also found that I had better luck downloading straight from football's account on file factory. You can find his account on stock roms collection page 5 snargaflab post where it says "here"
Hope this helps, as far as locking bootloader when s on I think you do have to lock bootloader. If nobody is helping I suggest you try it out.

Lock your bootloader via the fastboot oem lock command or use hasoon's tool to do it,
download this file here: http://d-h.st/3VD
Place that on your sd card and rename it PH85IMG do not place it in any folders, etc.
Reboot into hboot via the volume down/power button method, when your hboot finds the file, hit volume up to update, phone will reboot on it's own. You're on ICS.
Unlock your bootloader, install 4ext recovery via hasoon's tool and hit the Perm root ICS/GB option, follow all on screen instructions.
All done, official ICS and you're now rooted as well.
I lost root after the latest OTA , and wont try anything until something safe is out, heard a few people tried the Regawmod and now the phone is dead paperweight!!
Nothing is out yet, but I am sure that the Dev's are working on it. :good:
It's crazy the amount of people that took the OTA update and were rooted. No offence to the OP, just seeing this ? Popping up all over the forum . It really is madness taking the update if your concerned about root.

I took the OTA and I'm rooted again.... It's not even that difficult.
I wanted google wallet and I wanted it bad! So I ran thru the hastle of hacking Google wallet so I could get into settings and clear it. Then HTC re-locked my phone. Ran the RUU, then accepted the OTA. From here I ran the HTC unlock again. Then flashed TWRP (I used adb fastboot method):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
Once that's installed you can flash supersu via this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Find: CWM installable ZIP in the OPs sig block (it works fine with TWRP on 1.22 software)
From there I just installed busybox (by Stepen) via the market. Grabbed Titanium Backup, and here I am. Rooted phone with 1.22 stock ROM.
Not all of the old mods work anymore though. My favorite, which was the battery mods, don't work. They don't even come close to working, so make sure you nandroid backup before you start tinkering..
Nah!! too complicated...I just wait for a new method.

I received similar advice from a forum moderator, and as soon as I have time and the ability to singularly focus on the process, I will give this a try.
However, I think a lot of us want the one-step method for rooting the LTE with the new OTA installed. For those of us new to the process and negative results, we chalked this up as one of the infamous "lessons learned."
Thanks!

Unlocking your bootloader using HTCDev Unlock will allow you to flash a custom recovery. With a custom recovery, obtaining root is easy (plenty of flashable ZIPs for this). This has nothing to do with your version of HBOOT (or firmware or OTA version).
Read the guide I linked to above and it will answer these questions...
