ive got the new amaze 4g running the ics and im thinking about rooting it using the all in kit, i just have a few questions:
whats a kernel and how do i get one to put in the all in one kit? for some reason it just says to put your own kernel in there
and how do i install a custom ROM? im new to this stuff so take it easy on me lol
Try reading the Amaze bible. It should answer all of your questions. If you still have any doubts, come back and post specific questions Take some chances. This phone is virtually unbrickable

Oh okay thanks. Did you root yours using the same tool?
I rooted mine before hasoon's tool came out. Did it the "hard" way. And even then it wasn't that difficult. This is also my first android phone. Trust me, after you learn to root and flash, everything will make a lot more sense.

Well a custom Rom has all the above n some u might just need to flash root on recovery

Hasoons tool is as noob proof as it can get. unlock, flash recovery, root and enjoy the ROM goodness! S-Off might look intimidating if u delve into it.
It is very simple as long as u follow the directions.

First do THIS
Then install THIS and install su & superuser from the developer menu in Amon Ra.
From there you'll be rooted. Also, read the developer section, especially the stickies as there are plenty of great guides to get you going, but those two that I linked are the basics of getting it unlocked and perm rooted. From there you'll be able to flash a new ROM in recovery.
Thanks i will try as soon as I get home and let you know how it goes!

Using Amon Ra, I flashed directly from my phone. Its way easy. Just take your time and you'll get it.
If I were to root my phone, what would be the best way to accomplish the following:
1) I can still update to ICS
2) I can restore it to"unrooted" condition
3) I can use it as a wifi hot spot
I am hesitant because this phone works GREAT and I hate to screw anything up on it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Easiest way , just flash amon ra recovery. Use developer menu to install su and stay stock Rom, but remove bloat if you wanted. Make a back up in amon ra prior to rooting and when ota comes flash android. Flash stock recovery in hboot and then your back to normal and can accept ota.

Very VERY difficult to brick this with only using an HTC dev unlock. Now if you were going to run the s-off exploit. More chances of bricking there but if you stay on gingerbread and don't run the ICS leak, you can always revert back to a factory state even if you don't create a backup in Amon RA.
I'll bite.
This shouldn't be in the dev section. This is for the devs to put out their work, ROMs, toolkits, MODS, etc.
This should have gone in either the general section or Q & A. Please remember this from now on.
I'll do it. Wrong thread, should be in Q&A.

1. You can actually install some of the latest ICS software now, if you wanted to. I encourage you to read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425091
It will have a review of everything you need for the Rezound: ROMs, recovery, mods, etc.
If you didn't want to install a custom ROM, then you can always stay stock by just flashing an RUU of either a Gingerbread or ICS ROM.
2. To unroot, read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472606
3. I use the WiFi Tether application, which is included with many, if not all custom ROMs. It works really well and is free. Here is the fix needed for it before you use it:
Before Use -Start the app, Permit Root, Set Profile - Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) and Check Routing Fix
Good luck! Have fun! And welcome to the Rezound Club!

You guys make it too complicated:
Short answer:
1.) No - Not if your referring to the OTA that is coming someday.. (you would have to unroot (see #2))
1b.) Yes - if you flash a custom recovery and a custom ROM
2.) Yes - reflash Stock RUU
2b.) Provided you don't flash the "leaked" OTA that upgrades your HBoot
3.) yes
4. Read the sticky's that's why they are there
Thanks so much, guys, and I'm sorry I posted this in the wrong thread. I'll probably mess with this some more over the weekend and let you know how it goes. (For a novice like me!)

i just got my amaze yesterday, i installed the official ics OTA this morning, and now i want to root it. Does the one click root program work for the Amaze while it is on stock ics or would i have to downgrade?
I'm not sure, Look for hasoons all in one tool in the dev section. Has recoveries root and another one specifically for s off. You will find you will use his tool if you flash constantly

Hasoons tool wouldnt work for me when i updated to the WIND ICS OTA, i had to find the sudo package and install it via recovery. it did work for me in gingerbread.. just a heads up..
No one click. Read the stickies... Learn about unlocking bootloaders, 4 ext recovery, flashing superuser in recovery, and supercid. It's all rather simple. PLENTY of threads about it.

Were you previously running gingerbread? If so, you'd need to flash the latest T-Mobile ICS RUU before attempting to install any ICS-Based ROMs
A tool has been made that will flash the latest T-Mobile ICS RUU, and it can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762936
Please read through the instructions carefully.
After flashing the RUU with the tool, you should now be able to flash ICS roms without issues/errors.

Lol no comments, it doesn't matter anyways.
Lo.
I've found a lot of threads on this topic - the problem is they don't explain in detail (probably because everyone knows what they're doing, I'm not too into the whole custom thing).
Basically, I don't know where to start.
I'm running AOKP with the BLADE kernel, and although AOKP is lovely I encounter too many bugs. I'd like to revert to stock, but still be rooted of course.
Is there a detailed guide for this, that I've missed? I've bought my phone in Europe, so I suppose it's just the international version.
If anyone can point me in the right direction here, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hi, you can either install the stock rom (ruu) or pick a rom that is based in the stock rom but without some things that makes battery life longer. i know you want to keep the root so i guess the second option would suits you best. although, i think flashing the stock rom and rooting again is kinda better, you know because of the kernel thing, well is your call mate. salute

I would recommend this. It's pretty much stock, but with optimizations and tweaks.
The RUU thing is way more difficult
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987885
You can do a RUU and then root your phone with Hasoon's Toolkit.
For do a RUU, simpy relock your bootloader and run the "RUU.exe".
For root, follow the instructions in the toolkit thread.
Thanks and sorry for the late reply, apparently the app dpesn't notify me. What about the kernel I'm using?
And do I need to unroot my phone? I want to keep it rooted..
I like this rom but it's madly unstable unfortunately.

You can always use hasoon's tool to re-root the phone.
More difficult how? One person said it's simply one exe.
And from your experience, how stable is this rom. I'm getting a bit sick of camera, text, wifi crashes.

Thank you, but I needed a stable rom before my holidays so I just took a chance on Android Revolution HD and whilst its working perfectly and Ive had absolutely no problems, I miss the simplicity and customization of AOKP.
