I'm wondering what the best launcher is for tablet mode. I know touchwiz doesn't like 213dpi. I have used apex before and its nice, not real familiar with nova launcher. Are there any other launchers that work with tablet mode? What about go launcher ex or go launcher HD?
Also what is your favorite rom for running tablet mode?
I'm using adw ex and happy with it

Adwex and nova prime are my two go to launchers. Adwex hasn't been updated forever so it doesn't have a strong ics feel to it like nova can.
Nova prime seemed to keep icon sizing better on homescreen as well. But it seems to also limit your grid size. I'm at 213 and can only do 7x7, it may be dpi dependent but I don't usually rock tablet mode so haven't tested. Adwex will let me do 10x10 if I want.
I also like that nova puts the menu at the bottom of the screen while adwex puts it up top which can be out of reach maybe for some.
Here are two quick screens to show stuff I'm talking about. Since I primarily use phone mode I still prefer adwex for some reason lol, I think because I can change the dock icons size in adwex and not nova.
Nova prime

Also, I know some people will say apex is best, but I bought it, used it, and at the time it was pretty lacking. I don't think I could even set the drawer to transparent. I've never gone back to it and don't see a need. I've also run go, tsf, spb3d, ez, hi, and pretty much everything. So I've bought some I don't even really use anymore lol. But if I had to recommend one to buy, I'd probably say nova prime.

As a Cyanogenmod fan I have to recommend Trebuchet. It's just an improved version of AOSP's stock ICS launcher but it supports both tablet and phone. I haven't used it on my Note (which is 240dpi phone mode) but it works well on my HP TouchPad (160dpi tablet mode).
I wish you could use tablet mode for apps but keep the phone notification bar. The Note has capacitive buttons so it seems stupid to waste a bunch of screen real-estate for on-screen tablet buttons that are redundant.

Yeah I heard ya on the redundant buttons. What is the benefit of running at 240dpi as opposed to 320?
I am adding a second question to this post. What is the best rom for running tablet mode? I know rom choice is subjective and can depend on your phone hardware, what works for one might not work for another. But I don't feel like spending hours and hours setting up multiple roms the way I like in tablet mode. I mean I will if I have to, but I am wondering if there are 1 or 2 that are way better then the rest. So far I am leaning towards either Hybrid rom or the collective mesosphere remix.
Here's mine with adw ex. Still messing with it.

But right now I am using the h0tw1r3 ICS rom and it works great in tablet mode as well

you'll be able to see more things on the screen, for example there will be more stuff to swipe in the notification bar, more icons in the app drawer and icons/widgets will be a little smaller. be careful though because you'll have problems with the Play Store at certain dpi's.

I tried leaked S Voice APK and just like Samsung confirmed, it is only a test app and has many bugs. You can actually hear the difference since leaked test voice sound garbled. Latest one below is one that cam with S3 Rom leak and more up-to-date.
HOW DO YOU INSTALL?
1. Download ZIP on link below(Extract on your desktop). If you download to phone directly, you still need to extract to a normal folder.
2. Contained within is 2 files.(voicetalk.apk & libsvoxtts.so)
3. Place voicetalk.apk in system/app with "Root Explorer" or like(Use Mount R/W and set permissions by holding voicetalk.apk to see sub-menu). Make sure to make permissions as "rw-r--r--".
4. Now place libsvoxtts.so on /system/lib.
5. Reboot *****NO NEED TO CHANGE build.prop such as with others.
6. ENJOY, then ask funny questions to it.
__* IF YOU HEAR NO FEEDBACK, try turning media volume up by opening phone dialer or on youtube video, or a music song and such.

I honestly think launcher pro is the best because of the way the applications appear when you press the button in the tray, the icons on the tray are awesome and I love how
The application come together when You press the button on the tray, but I dont like how you have to pay for their widgets which are awesome, but I guess its worth it

I like ADW.Launcher. It has lots of options, it's themeable if you want a different look. ADWNotify is an awesome addition to it. It's open source.
best launcher
I have to agree, launcher pro is the best. Im using launcher pro plus and I love it.believe me, I've tried them all
ADW.Launcher and LauncherPro are the two choices that I would personally recommend. Both of them are excellent choices. In the end, it's really up to you to decide which launcher suites you. Try both and play around with it to see which one is better.
Im using a heavily nodded version of touchwiz. Imho its the best launcher. It has landscape and portrait support on the homepage and the apps and it let's you set any page as the homepage unlike regular tw. It also has 4 icons and an app drawer.

+1 for Zeam. I have the pay version of Launcher Pro, and have also tried ADW, and TW, but Zeam has worked best for me. It's fast, relatively light weight, gets regular updates, and is not bloated with unnecessary features. I found that I just didn't need all the widgets, etc. that come with the others.
Im an ADW fan boy. I think LP is a little more user friendly. But if you know how to use ADWs settings, and use the bidden gems (hold an app over the trash for 3 seconds to un install, etc.) I find it much better. The latest update of ADW is amazing.

I too am a fan of zeam. Definitely feels less cumbersome than launcher pro (i have the plus, and I really don't care for any of the widgets). I much prefer zeam's dock, and the action bindings are awesome (i use swipe up for open dialer, swipe down to open app drawer, both of which save be dock space, and use double tap to open notifications)
It now lets you resize widgets and adjust home screen rows and columns- I see no need for launcher pro.

Rearranged menu settings, trash is located at top now when deleting an app off screen, 1/3/5 icon menu, ui changes that I think are great. Another awesome thing is that if you long press an icon and drop it back in same spot, you can change the icon. So for twidroyd (can't stand their logo) I changed it to the official twitters logo.

I use launcher pro plus most but I like messing around with all kinds of different things. I kind of liked GDE too but it's too bulky but I liked the customizations you could do with it. I also like adw with all the themes available for it and I think it's pretty similar to launcher pro but no widgets. The notifier is nice though.
Is it possible to have the apps that I downloaded from Android market show up in the default nook launcher's app tab? I don't know how I feel about using go launcher ex. The nook UI is rather nice and go launcher makes my Nook Tablet feel like an oversized phone. I feel like that distinct separation needs to be there. What launcher are you guys using on your your tablet?
How do I install them (Some of them wont install via Android market (Launcher 7, Launcher Pro doesnt show up, Adw Crashes)?
I'm using both Go Launcher EX (which can be found here) and the default Nook launcher (with the Homecatcher apk found here)
I didn't install them via the market, I side-loaded them instead (click on the apk link and choose package manager, you will be prompted to install from unknown sources)
Not sure if you can get them to show up in the standard UI, but if there is a way I would also like to know. I like Go Launcher for the most part, but I prefer the standard UI for reading.
Wait for Omega Launcher from Syndicate apps. My friend promised it will be badass!

By the way, you can get apps to show up on the default bn home screen by using Nook Color Apple Manager, found in the android Market. Install it, then run it once. It will show up in your daily shelf at the bottom of the NT home screen. Run it from there, and you will be able to long press on any installed app and copy it to the nook apps screen. Works for almost everything I've tried.

Yes, app, not apple. I ran it from GO Launcher first, though you probably don't have to. Once I did that, it showed up in my Nook home apps section. From there, I long pressed on it and it brought up the option to add to home screen. After that I ran it on the home screen and selected the apps (short press) that I wanted to add to the bn apps screen.

It works like that, but I believe what flipper is saying is that the apps don't launch from the "shelves" of the B&N Homescreen once he goes to the Library.
This is my experience as well, they will only launch from the home screen. If they would launch from the shelves I would probably use the stock homescreen instead of Go Launcher EX.
Use Go Launcher as App Drawer on stock NT
I have not rooted my NT. I sideloaded Go Launcher EX, and then used Nook Color App Manager to place the Go Launcher icon on my Nook home screen, and when I press the Go Launcher icon, the tablet automatically becomes and Android tablet. Then, I loaded all of my apps on the Android home screen.
What this does, essentially, is it sets up the Go Launcher EX icon as the "App Drawer" in the stock NT user interface. My Nook home screen looks just like it's supposed to, except the Go Launcher icon is on it.
Has anyone had any issues with the honeycomb launcher force closing? I can't keep it open

Try Alt Drawer. It is an app drawer for ROMs that don't have app drawers like MIUI but it works perfectly on the Blaze.

This is a question for anyone... which launcher is the fastest and most bug free? I'm more interested in usability than visually appealing. I found golauncher confusing with all the theming options and didn't like the phone icon on the bar, etc. It also seemed slow. The honeycomb launcher from syndicate looked nice but ran rather buggy. Haven't tried adw on this device yet, but I'm just looking for something fast and functional.
Hi I was just wondering what launcher other than spb (not paying $15 for a launcher) works best on the prime?

2nd on nova. It's my favorite. I use the paid version on this and my Gnex.
Awesome launcher.
My Problem with all the other's I have tried are I cannot stand the dock they put on the side of the screen.
Sent through mental telepathy...or a TF201
my only problem with nova launcher is that the whole interface seems built for a smartphone, not fully taking advantage of the tablets bigger screen. for instance the app tray is small and about 2/3 the size of the normal tray so it hovers in the middle of your screen surrounded by black. it is smooth though. try out apex launcher if you want something similar that is formatted correctly. you can just google it and its like first xda link.
nova
I have to +1 for nova launcher, unless you use your prime a lot in portrait mode in which case I can't recommend it.
Apex launcher you can find it on xda...just type in search bar "apex". Imba launcher and in my opinion better then nova launcher.
Apex works fine in landscape and portrait and wallpapers fits very well to screen size. Nova is buggy in resizing wallpapers.

Im using apex. depending on the configuration you may find it buggy. I've found a nice config that isn't bugged. I dont use the auto grid( i use 9x7 or 8x9 or something), have icon labels off, and have the desktop style to none (not even tablet) with elastic scrolling off and everything works perfectly with these settings, even the desktop previews.
the other animation options dont seem to work great yet, card stack is very bugged and tablet mode makes desktop preview bug too. it could just be certain widgets i use on mine (lenovo bookmarks) but probably is just because its development of tablets is second priority.
anyway, it has nice desktop preview, supports folders in ics and is nice and snappy. I love it, although I haven't tried trebuchet I have tried a bunch of others and apex is ahead of the rest imo.
I'm a big fan of ADW Ex on tablets because of its advanced customization abilities. It lets you make desktops like you see in the HUBS threads. It is, however, missing scrolling widgets. Hopefully that gets added soon as the developer has already done some ICS optimization.
I'm playing with ADW EX now. I haven't turned it on full time yet because I'm doing a HUBS setup and it's taking me a long time to get it right not to mention my two kids take up most of my time. I guess it's OK, this is the first time I messed with any launcher other than stock. I never really had any desire to do it on my phone but will on my tablet.

I have to ask, have you noticed sizing problems with Go? I use go on my captivate, and love it, but I notice that the tab is re-sizing the home screen (I get the little arrows in the notification bar) Do you get this as well, or am I missing something??
Personally I like adw ex. I have tried nova, go launcher, launcher pro and spb(yes i did buy it for $15 lol). I always come back to adw ex. The customization is great, its usually pretty stable and the best part(for me) is the ability to backup the settings and screen layout. Other launchers have one or two cool things (SPB has some cool gimmicks), but all around I like adw ex the most. Especially if you like the "hubs" style (which I have) the UI can be amazing.

Got my tablet this past Thursday and I have tried Go Launcher on both my Prime and my sisters Prime and its obviously not optimized for Tablets yet. Very laggy experience when scrolling through screens and the dock can't be moved when in Landscape. Right now I'm on ADW ex and man is it awesome! It's the most stable launcher out from my understanding for Tablets. Only problem is the lack of scrolling widgets. Other than that, its all Aces!!
Anyone try Trebuchet on the TPrime? Wondering how it compares to Apex. I know Nova is much more feature rich.

I'm a big fan of ADW Ex on tablets because of its advanced customization abilities. It lets you make desktops like you see in the HUBS threads. It is, however, missing scrolling widgets. Hopefully that gets added soon as the developer has already done some ICS optimization.

Scrollable widgets are working on ADW Launcher EX...I don't know when it actually happened, but I actually noticed it a few days ago.
I can scroll through the list of active tasks in the Asus Task Manager widget, I can flip through the "cards" in the YouTube and Reader widgets, and I can scroll through my task list in the Any.Do "scrollable" widget.

Strange, I'm running the latest version out of the market, and none of my Widgets scroll. Any chance you tweaked something unknowingly?

I never liked touchwiz when I bought my vibrant and couldn't wait to throw a pure manilla AOSP build.
I skipped the G2 and waited and bought a Galaxy nexus that I've been using for 7-8 months so far. I love the features of jelly bean and this is where Google leaves them far behind in the dust.
I've been very impressed with Samsung's TW on my T-Mobile G3. It seems they listened to the masses and implemented many useful mods that we shoot straight for after root and recovery. I'm surprised many drop it for ICS CM9 builds. I feel its going backwards. I can understand jelly bean because Google search works perfect and the keyboard is great along with the build and everything also JB brings.
I love this TW and for the first time of my Android experience I'm going to stay on stock based roms.
Just my opinion but this is the beautiful thing about android. There is no right or wrong roms there's user choice. This just happens to be my view. I'm really looking for opinions. With android you get what you want and this awesome community drives the innovation forward.
Take care community

I'm new to android coming form iPhone's. I very much like the change. I like this version of TW on the SIII. My only gripe is that one cannot use auto rotation to landscape the home screens. I loaded Apex launcher to be able to have landscape on my home screens. If TW provided this feature, I'd probably still be using TW. I do like the ability to resize widgets that Apex provides though.
i hate touchwiz. it looks like crap and there is nothing i like about it. i like stock android but i got this phone for its hardware and screen. since touchwiz can be removed.

TouchWiz is great, just wish it showed in the app drawer on NFC Task Manager so my phone would kick to the homescreen when it touches the tag by my night stand charger.

This sums up my reasons for not using TW. I definitely prefer Apex. It is very sharp and feature-filled. It's never "cartoony" or missing something that other launchers leave out.
Apex is wonderful. Looks good and has many useful features while retaining the good things of Touchwiz, but it just isn't as smooth as Samsung's launcher. My biggest gripe with TW is the inability to increase rows/columns on the homescreen. I might give stock ICS another shot though I didn't like it at all the first time I tried it.

Neither did my Verizon device, I grabbed these for a little over $5 w/ shipping for 5. Work great and are good for fiddling with http://www.buynfctags.com/nfc-tags/stickers/nfc-sticker-ntag.html
Also I just figured out that you can quick - swipe to other screens by sliding across the page indicator with TouchWiz. Pretty cool. For some reason whenever I use Apex Instagram and Seesmic force close. Weird.

To each his/her own. That's what makes android so great. Personally I don't mind TW at the moment, but I'll probably play around with other stuff once i get bored of it.
This Touchwiz is WAY better than previous versions. I actually always use a launxher, but yet to on mine. Touchwiz is plenty fast and clean to me.

I do like TW, many cool features.
I'll be keeping TW.
I think touchwiz would be better if they had themes like aokp/cm9(tmobile theme chooser) and will definitely make it much better, sens has something like it but not enough customization, tmobile theme chooser is the best that's why I always like aokp and cm9

I like the scrolling dock so my screen doesn't look cluttered like the above. Custom home screen/app drawer transitions are really cool. Gestures to hide dock and notification bars are very nice. The ability to rotate home screens to landscape when the phone is in car cradle is essential.

Definitely. I don't like having too many icons and Widgets cluttering my screen so a scrollable dock where I put media player shortcuts on are a must. And believe it or not, that ugly manilla folder TW uses is the real reason I can't stick with it!

I'm a long-time Go Launcher user (Launcher Pro user before that) and lately much hype has surrounded Nova Launcher so I decided to give it a shot.
After playing with it for part of a day I'm wondering what all the fuss is. So far, Go Launcher seems to provide everything Nova Launcher does. In fact, for free it provides features you can only get for the premium version of Nova. What am I missing here?
Nova Comments:
1. It doesn't feel as responsive as Go Launcher.
2. My contact icons have no images while they do automatically on Go Launcher.
3. It has the same bug as Go Launcher with not being able to display the text for widget descriptions (when selecting widgets).
4. No real themes.
The reason I'm asking this is that I use swipe up for my dock apps to do multiple things and that feature is only a pay feature. If there's a compelling reason to stick with Nova then I'll buy it. However, since it's not just a buck or two I wanted this to be a good choice and not just an impulse buy that I never use again.
Thanks.
I'd rather go for nova cause I like the UI of the settings more, and the GO Launcher has to much advertisement stuff. But I still think that apex is even better, It's IMO faster, and better responsiveness.

Go launcher is full of bloatware, it's 10MB and it isn't so good lower end phones.

I'll look at Apex but regarding Go Launcher being bloatware, so far that's not an issue for me. It runs great on my RAZR. Still nothing solid on why Nova is better.
Nova has options to import desktop data from other launchers, and options to backup desktop data and restore, although I'm not sure if you can do that on go launcher.

Thanks. Looking over Apex now and, so far, it looks identical to Nova. In fact, I'd say so far I have the same issues as I already posted for Nova.
I assume these apps were related at one point?
Yeah, Apex is identical to Nova. If you compare the latest version of both Apex and Nova, Nova is little smoother than Apex. But I like Apex more.
I used Go for at least 6 straight months on my Galaxy S2, but since then they have gone too much bloated.
On my device go launcher is slow as hell. I actually want to like go launcher because of all the features but it slows my phone down and takes up wayyyyy to much memory. Nova or apex are lightning fast and put everything right where I need it.

So if I decided on one of these how do you decide between Nova or Apex given that they're so similar? Both are $4 (more or less).
The reason I'd consider it is that bloat (even though I'm not seeing it yet so any details there might help) is nothing I'm a fan of having come from an OG Droid. Sooner or later you run into issues.
Are there solutions to the issues I've mentioned? For example, can I get the widget menu to show text? I can't believe all three have this issue and have had it forever. Is there a way to get my contacts to have their Facebook profile pictures as they do in Go Launcher?

Nova Launcher has a lot more features and gets updated quite frequently. It also has gesture support for dock icons, and normal launcher icons now too. It also has unread counters, and a literal crap ton of options.

What are "normal launcher icons"?
And you say NL has "a lot more features". More features than Apex? More than Go Launcher? If so, can you elaborate as a new user I'm not seeing these.
Nope, I don't think any launcher other than SS has more options than Go. Yes, the new update of Nova does bring some new features like icon gesture feature and all, but it's not the case of 'how many' features, but 'how good' are they. Like I am having constant crashes for unread notifier in Nova since last update, on Apex you don't even need to install any third party app/plugin for unread notifications. I also like how Apex grids the icon on desktop when big grid size is applied. I like how Apex re-size the icon and also re-size it's level, while Nova doesn't re-size the level. You know it ultimately depends on YOU, how you wanna use, what features you like and all.
Well I am paid user of Nova, well I don't regret it, but at the same time I think that I should've purchased Apex. But one thing for sure, I will never buy Next or SPB Shell, not for money, cause they ask WAY TOO much for what's given.
So you might think, which one you should buy, Nova or Apex, well, no one can say just toss a coin. But if I were you and tossed a coin and saw Nova winning, then I will toss it again for Apex, lol.

jujuburi,
I went ahead and paid for Apex last night and will likely pay for Nova as well. I wanted to ask about some of the above comments.
1. What is Icon Gesture Feature? Is that swiping up or down on any icon regardless of where it is? I use swipe up for some of my dock icons (swipe up on Phone and I launch People.... swipe up on Maps and I launch Navigation).
2. I noticed that on Nova my widgets seemed oddly shaped (4x4). On Apex they're just as I'm used to them on Go Launcher. Is this related to the grid issue you mentioned? If not, how can I see what you mean?
3. What do you mean by resize a "level"???
First off all, very good decision on buying Apex, and also taking Nova in consideration.
1- Icon gesture feature is the one where you press and hold on an icon, then you'll be given a pop up menu, press edit, then you'll see this screen,
{

}
,
then this one, if you press on the Swipe action,
You can then choose any option you want. But so far I've seen it only works upwards, Swiping right, left or downwards don't work.
2- Yes, I think that is due to the grid size. I like how Apex reacts on grid size than Nova.
3- By level I mean the app names along with them. You see that if you set icon size to 75% on Nova the icon will get smaller, but weird thing is the name level will remain of same size! Which looks pretty bad. On Apex, the level also changes along with icon size, which looks good.

Yep, that's what I thought. I don't use it for anything outside the dock so, for now, no need. Thus Apex meets the demand.
I also finally figured out how to see the text for widgets by using the Root Helper option. Finally! The only confusion was the note about installing Apex as a system app but they don't really tell you why you'd want to do that. For now the only reason seems to have an alternative to the first option for widget interface.
The last thing I really need to resolve are my contact images. Go Launcher is able to see the contact images from Facebook. Apex apparently can't so nearly all my contact icon images are just the default black silhouette on a blue background icons. Very boring. There has to be a way to feed these profile pictures to these icons but short of saving each one as an image manually and then applying it, I don't see a simple solution.
Can't you just assign images with something like Haxsync so the images are saved on to your contacts forever?

That works. Thanks. I also just found that Friendcaster does it too. Good to go on this.
Interestingly now another issue has cropped up. I'm now noticing home page refreshes which I didn't notice before. I see this is an issue with Apex. Hopefully it's fixed soon. I dumped Launcher Pro over that issue long ago.
I was a long time Go Launcher person since its release until they changed the UI earlier last year. At first the UI was full of bloat and slow, but since I use the latest betas from there blog site I don't run in to the bloat issue. Other then Go Launcher, Nova and SSL Launcher are my favorite launchers. Nova has normal android animations and is very user friendly, and if you know how to use nova's extra labs options you get more out of it.
The problem with Go Launchers new UI, and which I have been complaining about on there blog since day one is that creating widgets/Apps from the home screen in landscape mode changes the orientation of the screen to portrait mode. Its absolutely ridiculousness. If I have my phone in landscape its there for a reason, so don't force users to change to portrait! It doesn't help that you can't add them from the app drawer but being a GNote user I prefer to hold my phone in landscape to take advantage of the real estate.
Another minor issue I found is that Go Launcher does not play nice with Multi-Live Wallpapers. I honestly don't like how they shifted their focus on releasing a new launcher called Next Launcher that really isn't that good and in early development. Go Launcher was named the most best launcher of 2011-2012 by popular vote on LifeHackers, so there was really no reason to stop and work on something else when they were doing so good. Hopefully future Go Launcher Development doesn't suffer from it. I would love to use it again but not until they fix the orientation issue. And yes they are well aware of that issue, I have been posting the complain every time they release a new beta version so at some point they will listen.
