If you want to know how it's coming along follow Cotulla on Twitter or IRC: http://twitter.com/cotullacode
The ETA is only known by Cotulla and his team, so don't bother asking here
Im sorry but you deserve every bit of flaming that will come from this thread.

Fag? I can tell your 12 years old acting like you know what your doing. I never once said a FU##King work about cotulla, I've never spoke a word to him in my life. Posts like these are pointless no matter how you look at them, pure laziness. So quit trying to be a hero, its past your bed time.

At the risk of sounding like a "jumped up moderator wannabe", may I suggest a little bedtime reading for you......
Now please can we stop the flamewars? Here's some more guidance for all of you:
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 New Members: Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member. Provide the new members with guidance, advice and instruction always with respect and courtesy.
There, now be nice to eachother and tell the kid that it's not appropriate to start this thread and that he has to search. The Mod's can decide whether or not to close this thread, but never resort to flaming dudes
come on though its everyday we see this....
and really do we need it like ive said have a thread and update it everyday but lock it so no one can add to it. just giving the link to his twitter on something this will save some much time in peoples lifes flaming and slagging off other members have the title "NAND IS COMING READ ABOUT IT HERE" JOB DONE
Sorry but when i was a junior member i didn't spam whole of xda with useless posts
I did my research before i posted anything sometimes even ending up looking for hours for one stupid thing.
Its not a socializing website its a mobile development related forum. There is an after hours section in here for that. Also several threads concerned discussion of NAND and android development are present as well as a thread used for Q&A regarding both matters mentioned.
Theres tons of threads like this cause of posters like OP and its just spam. And it seems no matter how many people write answers like these they never bloody get it that there's a search button about 3/4 from the bottom on the right side of the screen.
One the matter of fact its a bit silly and unobservant not to actually be able to see all these threads cause they pop up like mushrooms after rain
Thread closed.
Don't flame.
OP, read rules regarding search before posting please. Don't ask for eta when it's documented to be in progress.

Hyao, gtfo, you are a spammer and/or moron.
Well it says RC so I dont think its fully stable yet
Why don't you do two things:
Add "question" to your thread's title so that forum viewers don't burst in excitement as they see a thread labeled CyanogenMod and think that a release candidate is ready for download.
Post questions in the Q&A section. If a CyanogenMod thread is going to be in the development section, it should be about development.

Before anything else....title of the forum is not Cynogenmod for vibrant....lol....
Actually it looks like there is a RC0 release foor the Vibrant but it is likely only available for the devs:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8302-the-state-of-the-galaxy/
It appears a reminder may be in order, about the purpose of the development fora on XDA.
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?
I have noticed that people in the q and a section are not posting nearly enough information in their post or title to get the information they need. This causes people to ask lots of questions and delay getting the answer they need. So this guide will show you what you need to include in your post to get the most efficient answer to your question.
We'll start with the Title:
- Please do not just say "HALP, PHONE BROKE" or "HELP" , etc.
- You need to be precise, and describe what you're looking for in your thread.
Next, the information you need to state before you even get into asking your question.
- The make of your phone. There are many different variants of your device. I9100 G/M/P/T
- Are you rooted/unrooted?
- What rom you are using? And which version? -and- What kernel are you using? And which version?
- Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
- Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
- Have you done anything to try to solve your issue? This would be very valuable information.
- Please (if on stock firmware) dial *#1234# and post the results (thanks to fxrb)
Then you can ask your question.
- Do not ask "What rom/kernel/theme is the best?" -or- Something that you have not searched for (it is infact very obvious if you havent)
- Be specific and precise in what you want/need. Do not write a 10, 000 word essay, or a 3 word question.
- Pictures say a 1000 words
Important things to remember:
- Be polite: People never want to help someone who wont appreciate it, or is rude to them. Remember your p's and q's
- Do not bump your thread: It gets annoying and against the rules
This is under construction and will take a bit to include all of the information needed. I know there are lots of more experienced users than I, and would love feedback of what to include. Please do not hesitate to post in the thread or even PM me with information you think needs to be included in this thread.
Stickies
- DO NOT POST A "What's the best ROM/Kernel/Theme?" THREAD!
- [Newbies][Experienced Users][RCs] New members friendly Q&A thread
- [KERNEL][REF][Q&A] Siyah 5.0+[ICS/CM10] 6.0b5+[JB/CM10.1] +DISCUSSION+. NON-DEV!!!
- Australian AU Galaxy S II (help/rooting/updates,etc)
- SGS2 Canadian Thread (Bell/Virgin/Sasktel/Rogers) Root/Unlock/Firmware/Modems/Mods

The thought is nice... but unless this is stickied (and even then), this thread will fall off the first page, and since the vast majority of n00bs (not new members, but "n00bs" - there's a huge difference) won't search, they won't see it.
Heck, there have been dozens of posts since you posted this that have been terribly short of any information.
But I applaud the thought.
You have to think how them noobs operate. They muck up their phone, stick the symptoms in a google search, and want an answer asap.
So they are not going to spend hours reading rules and stickies or use the search function.
I spent a week reading about stuff for the x10i I had before I decided to do anything to it.That way at least I had half an idea what helpers were talking about when/if I got into trouble.
When I joined this forum the s2 looked a lot more complicated and the forum looked a lot more "vicious"(like give that guy 20xlashes since he didnt do a search).
Its a tough world lol

in relation to search and read before asking questions...
just wanted to share that I've got a nicely setup dualboot with the siyah kernel, RootBox JB 2.1 as my second rom successfully patched with the autopatcher 1.6 and a fully working pdroid. That's it...
Since i have less than 10 posts I cannot thank the developers in their respective threads (at least that's how i get the message). I think this is my 5th post so I guess i never make it to the developers section because i really don't know what questions i can ask and, answers i could give are all answered...
this must be a "new member" problem rather than a n00b one?

Yeah, but don't just get 10 posts just to say "thank you" in the rom Dev section. I van personally say that devs hate this as it clogs up the thread and doesn't add anything to anything. That is why xda has the thanks button, and the devs appreciate that more than saying it. In fact, it you really want to say thank you donate to them. Even if its 1 euro they will be very grateful.

course not it was kind of a semi-sarcastic post, I have more to say than thanks I spent countless hours reading and learning stuff (in general, it is fun after all!) and as far as this forum is concerned (which is really helpful btw!) it's difficult to then act (for the time being!). Example: Somehow I managed to post in a developer's thread 1-2 months ago, first a problem then I found the solution and posted it myself. I then got PMed by someone asking me for help. Only problem is I never got an email notification in spite of having a thread subscription so I didn't bother to check my PMs. As for donating, absolutely.

OK awesome. I'm used to people who just want to say thanks, so I have to mention something like that. But taking a look at your sign up date, of looks like you might be able to post in the Dev section without having 10 posts. I believe if you signed up before a certain date you don't need the posts. And of looks like you might fit in there. I would try it you never know

Sadly I agree to everybody believing that this thread will not be read by those who should do so, sorry. However, if by accident just one out of thousand will read it then there will be 'only' 999 bad questions remaining - a small progress.
For this one out of thousand I would like to contribute something to the information section of this thread. For basic information I often ask people to dial *#1234# and post the result. As this thread is in the Galaxy SII forum this should work, at least as long as people are on stock firmware (probably use this conditionally ?).

I am a new member and every time i post something or respond to something, i have to go thru the captcha... typing is a bit of a challenge for me so getting those right is very challenging... I joined so that I could respond to someone in the developers thread, but i can't do that until i have 10 posts and then i find out that i can only post every 5 minutes since I am new. I also cannot send a PM which is what i tried to do as well.... will there always be captchas when i am posting or will they go away after 10 posts?
this is mostly just filling time so i can post again and get up to 10!
thanks...

The captchas are only temporary, they will go away along with other restrictions A friendly tip though, don't post just to fill up the 10 posts because I have seen some people get their post count reset. It's super easy to legitimately get 10 posts.
Browse the Q&A forums and help out with what you can, recommend accessories in said forum. Also check out the main Android forums and if all else fails there is always then off topic forums and we even have an off topic thread in general.
Welcome and I hope to see you around

Good job.
I don't understand why once I am confirmed as member, I can't post anywhere... all of my thanks posts were genuine, those were things that i didn't know before and found helpful. I was legitimately trying to help someone in a developer forum because I had had the same issue when rooting, and it wouldn't let me send him a pm either until after those 10 so i was trying to be helpful here. how much longer does it take to be able to post in the development forums?

It's mostly to minimize spam. It seems to work pretty well, so I'd say it's a small price to pay to have a better community.
yea i feel where your comin from but it really helps cut down on the spam allso helps keep some people away you dont no how many time a tread can be ruin by some person with drama and off topic debates lol
Xda needs to have some border patrol.. if your here for the right reasons you will be able to post anywhere b4 long
If you only knew the amount of spam we got on here by ppls accounts....lol
Not hard to fire off 10 posts if you look for the right section to post in....locking this one though since it doesn't pertain to the device here....

Ok. So I have thought about doing this for a long time and always have a reason why I haven't done it. I also still have plenty of reservations with it, but I trust it will go well.
What this is:
Ask questions to the moderation team here in the 3d forum. Mostly me. I can't say the others will participate in this thread, as they are not required to. We don't have to talk about a lot of what goes on and I will not force them to. I digress.
If you are confused about a certain rule, or just want clarification, come here. If you want guidance on how to approach a certain situation (this mostly for me), you can come here.
What this isn't:
A place to discuss in detail why someone was banned. Also we will not discuss the banning of people in the past. I will not usually talk about why someone was infracted. Those are all personal details, and will be left as such. Also this is not a place to flame the moderators or anyone else.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my attempt to be fairly transparent with the user base. Most everyone here who knows me, knows that I am willing to talk to just about anyone, and am easy to get a long with. As long as you keep this a civil thread, it will remain. This isn't something that is required, I'm doing it to hopefully bring about some civility in this forum. We don't do things in secret, we just don't talk about it publicly usually.
You work with me, I will work with you.
Savvy?
Thanks to ramjet73 for encouraging me to go ahead and do this.
I too will participate and have subscribed to this thread. As most know I'm not secretive and don't hold alliances with a lot of devs here in 3d land. I tell it like it is and don't let anyone bash another member or previous member for that matter. As long as this is civil I will be as well. Let's play nice and all get along. Remember everyone we are all here to tweak our phones, run the latest software, have the coolest stuff, have fun, and share in our hobby. Nobody here is paid to be here at all so there is no reason to fight cause it gets u no where.

Carry on.
Where do babies come from?? HAHAHAHA
Obviously I'm joking BUT I do have a serious question.
Why does the search feature go down once a day??
I know a lot of noobs don't notice this because they don't search BUT I use it all day long and I know I'm not the only one that finds this annoying!
Just a few questions. I'm not sure if these fall under the questions that are allowed to be asked, but:
1.] Is Agrabren simply not allowed to post CDMA builds anymore? I still don't truly understand the path his CDMA development has gone, it seems to come and go.
2.] To my understanding there are false GPL claims being made against him. How exactly are those claims made/handled? Is it an automated system? If not, wouldn't it be possible to tell which claims being made are just trolls?
3.] How do you guys put up with the drama so well? I would have lost my mind a long time ago :crying:
Reporting Posts
Thanks to pstevep and papa smurf151 for opening this thread.
I'll try to start this in the spirit that I think it was intended by asking the mods what is the best way to handle a post that has been made in the wrong forum, something that rarely happens in the Evo 3d forums.
We don't want to discourage new users that might not know better, but there are detailed guidelines posted for the development forum by papa smurf151 as a sticky in that forum, and general guidelines for new threads in the Forum & Marketplace Rules post at the top of each forum.
In your opinions, is it appropriate to link those guidelines when a post is misplaced or better to just reference them and let the users find them on their own? It's a good exercise to find them yourself when you are not even aware that they exist, but sometimes that discourages users from actually reading them.
This may sound trivial so far, but my real question is whether or not we should report these posts. Is it helpful to the mods to report posts, or better to just wait until someone gets around to reviewing the new threads.
On a broader scale, when would you recommend that we report posts versus just leaving it to the mods to handle them?

This was a great idea. I just want to say thank you to ramjet, pvstepup, and papasmurf for allowing a chance for normal members to come together and let members have a chance to clear the air of any matters that maybe unclear. This is one is for papasmurf: I notice more recently that you have locked quite a few threads with all having something to do with opinions of what's the best Rom or kernel. Now many of us get the idea that you are preventing flaming wars and trying to keep things civil. Myself and many others are wondering, is our hunches accurate?

Just a few questions. I'm not sure if these fall under the questions that are allowed to be asked, but:
1.] Is Agrabren simply not allowed to post CDMA builds anymore? I still don't truly understand the path his CDMA development has gone, it seems to come and go.
2.] To my understanding there are false GPL claims being made against him. How exactly are those claims made/handled? Is it an automated system? If not, wouldn't it be possible to tell which claims being made are just trolls?
3.] How do you guys put up with the drama so well? I would have lost my mind a long time ago :crying:

1. From my understanding he has taken his cdma builds off xda to let things chill for awhile. When things get heated sometimes the best course of action is to cool off and let time resolve the situation
2. Even though there are devs not on xda we do exchange emails or talk on other forums...sometimes even gtalk. The real gpl complaints come that way as well as from pm with specific issues linked and evidence given. Simply saying he's breaking the rules with no proof gets u no where with the mod team
3. Actually 99% of the time we have nothing go do and that's a good thing. At times we simply go into threads...clean them up and leave a warning. If it gets bad then u take further actions. Keeping a cool head and having to remain neutral helps to not get so mad since u don't take sides its easier. If it gets personal or u r personally involved that's when u step aside and let ur fellow mods help. We r all a big team and work together

Why does the search feature go down once a day??
I know a lot of noobs don't notice this because they don't search BUT I use it all day long and I know I'm not the only one that finds this annoying!

Search = bang head against wall.
We really have no control of it. Its a server issue I think

Ok if ud like please post a link in the thread posted in wrong section to my guidelines and then report.
id rather come hone from work with 15 reported posts then to search around and see a flame war over something really stupid and trivial.

Yup ur spot on. In my dealing with these threads they turn ugly real fast. Devs get feelings hurt. Fan boys bash others roms or promote their favs. Its really all opinion and u know what they say about opinions. My suggestion is don't participate. In the og evo section we've instigated this rule and its prevented countless fights and clean up work for the mods

Xda search is a google custom search, if it's down I just use google which typically yields similar results. I'm for real not trolling.

Please please please please use report. There's only 3 of us fsm, plus pstevep. We can't see it all thread wise since we all moderate more than just this forum, but we can see the reports (and faster). PM's work too.
And I thought babies came from the cabbage patch. It's at least cool to have 1 thread for drama. ie. V6 supercharger

It was retired. It was never meant to be here forever. It was a tool to calm things down. It worked and the reins were loosened as we do not like being dictators but will if need be.

Oh the lovely search. It actually goes down when our custom cache gets corrupted on the server. Then our server guy has to rebuild cache which takes several hours typically. It's annoying for everyone, especially the server guy.

Lord how did I know this type of question would be at the beginning.
1. He could post his CDMA build if he wanted to. Gpl wise he provides source. However due to circumstances that everyone is aware it is not being posted for the good of everyone involved. I told him that if he isn't going to post it though, we can't have it accessible from anything on here. Believe me for right now it's the greater good.
2. When a gpl claim is reported its handled ostensibly like any other report. Except that usually a senior mod and or a member of the dev committee is brought in to look at it. If there are any issues we address them with the dev in question. Agrabren's issues were looked into and addressed appropriately. Sometimes yes its easy to know when it's just trolling, but not always, it's a serious matter so we tend to take it seriously.
3. I honestly think my 3 year old had a lot to do with it for me. Calmed me down, made me more patient. Plus I'm the type of person who likes to fix things so I tend to try and defuse situations by nature. I think everyone deserves respect, and if you talk to me I will talk to you. If you work with me, i will work with you. I want what's best for the community.
Hope that helps.

Just report instantly. Or you can pm me directly. I don't always see the reported posts as much as I'm mobile 75% of the time. I have a lot of gut feelings that pay off and I'm in the right place at the right time. I also have devs (not as much in the 3d forum) that will gtalk me when something is going down. But report as soon as you see it is the best Option.
EDIT: as for wrong posting. You can instruct the person politely that they are in the wrong forum, but still report so we can move it. Does that help?

Carry on.

In all seriousness, I don't see how you're considered the angry mod. You've always been helpful. In fact, I've noticed in the teamd3rp Q&A, you're one of the only ones answering questions.

Why can't I find the anthrax kernel here I used to use it on meanrom but now I can't find it anywhere! I my opinion there is no better kernel.
That sucker flew not to mention I hate the stock kernel!
So could you point me to the anthrax GB kernel that would be great or at least who makes it! I only remember the name of it because it has the same name of my favorite band.
