It is really annoying to use vpn in ics because of the password protection lock so is there a way to use swipe lock while vpn services active??

You don't necessarily need to use a password. I use a vpn with just pattern unlock set.
However, I believe that pattern unlock is the minimum level of security required for vpn access.

Fix to remove pattern/pin/password requirement for VPN
Hey,
theres a bit of a ghetto work around that i found for this annoying requirement on the new galaxy s 3.
First set up your VPN and the required pattern lock. Then you log in to samsungdive.com and press unlock my screen. This will trick the phone to not use the pattern unlock.
Just set your pattern lock to be a straight line from left to right (or right to left) on the bottom-most line.
That's very similar to a swipe lock.

No more password (of any kind) lock for the screen in order to use VPN acces!!
Thanks
Update:
Unfortunately, afther a reboot, there is no way to acces to VPN without setting a pass lock. Any idea how to permanently acces to VPN without the lock screen pass lock?
how about this? "VpnROOT - PPTP - Manager"

Hi,
I'm using my SGS2 with my corporate Exchange account.
It is fine! I like the mail app but the exchange enforces security on my phone.
In general this isn't a problem but EVERY time unlocking the phone the PIN code is required which is quite anoying.
I would like to have this either disabled or set a timeout for locking (not for screen timeout) as it is possible on HTC devices.
I tryed already some apps but they don't work. (no lock, lockpicker...)
please help!
cheers,
steefen

I have exchange policies through company email, which are quite strict. I am happy with that. Only problem I have now, is that I have to put in the PIN to unlock every time my screen wakes up. Formerly in WM6.5 (HD2) I could unlock only with swipe in the first 30minutes, and after 30minutes of inactivity, I had to provide the pin.
Can I do this now as well ? Is there a difference on the S II between unlock screen and PIN unlock ? In the settings I cannot find this option; are there solutions for that (other lockscreen apps e.g.) who do accept that ?
Hi,
I would suggest you download the manual for the phone.
in the mean time:-
Go to settings/location and security/change screen lock
there you can disable screen lock, set a pattern for unlock, set a pin or password.
Then go to settings/display/screen time out and change the time it takes to lock
Hope this helps
Txs, I see now that also exchange policy has greyed out the pattern option. So I cannot disable the pin unlock and cannot put in pattern ... Unfortunately so ...
oh coroparate phones eh?

I use touchdown for exchange app, and the pin is needed only for the app not the phone.

This is what I am using on my Captivate to overcome the same issue, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848564, I know we are not on the same phone but I am pretty sure the "fix" can be done on the email.apk for your phone.
Basically you need to tell the native email app to tell Exchange that it is using a PIN when in actuality it is not. If it is too complicated for you to do yourself, Fenny is pretty cool about doing it for you, just send him a copy of the email.apk you are using.
Looks like there is already an email.apk for you found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13413332&postcount=1533
If i am using the original ROM on Galaxy S2 for United Kingdom, would this email.apk still work or do i need an updated file ? What are the chances of administrator finding it out ?
I Searched forum but did not find anyone to post this. If this is double post I excuse myself in advance but...
As you know when you insall certificate you have to use more secure way to unlock screen (Pettern, Password, PIN) and you can't use by default less secure unlock which is also swipe which I want to use even if I have certificate installed.
By the way I installed certificate for bank access.
Ok so yesterday I played with pattern to unlock my screen and I tried what if I use more than 5 wrong patterns.
As you probably all know if you unlock it five times or more you have to lock or you have possibility to unlock it with PIN which you had to type when you set pattern:
and when you try five wrong pattern you have possibility to use pin to unlock:
after you click on click on forgotten pattern you can unlock it with pin:
and voila you have swipe to unlock screen even if you have installed certificate.
Access with certificate will work until restart of phone, after that you have to insert pin for certificate store to work again or repeat steps.
Does anybody has better solution?
But probably this is a bug
So nobody has cert on phone?

Hi All,
I used Unlock With WiFi for quite some time so I wouldn't need to remove the lock screen when I'm at home, but I use the patern lock and this no longer works. The Dev tells me it is due to a restriction on the newer versions of Android (I'm currently on 4.1.1). Now I'm not calling the dev a liar, or suggesting he doesn't know what he is on about, but knowing how ingenious some people are here, I thought somebody may have worked out a way around it.
Anyideas on how to automatically have no lock on at home (and at my Mum's, and at the other-half's place), but on the rest of the time? Note I really want to keep the patern lock.

If I take the SIM out, the device will boot and give me access to contents, (obviously, phone is off).
BUT if SIM is in, I cannot get past the pin input screen, and this is exactly what I want to do.
I want to be able to give the device to my son to i.e. read a pdf, but I do not want him to be making / answering calls on my SIM.
Sure, I can take it out, but do not want to if I do not have to. (I might lose it too!)
In other words, if no pin is entered, one must be able to use all but the phone on the device.
After all, the lock is for the SIM, not the device!

Is your device rooted? Not 100% sure if this will work but it's worth a try, I would recommend opening your build.prop and looking for the line that reads:
Code:
keyguard.no_require_sim=false
And changing that to:
Code:
keyguard.no_require_sim=true
Another option would be to use a parental controls app such as Smart AppLock to password protect the phone app, messaging, etc. preventing your son from having acess to these in the event that he navigates away from the pdf he was reading.

I can disable SIM pin request by going into settings BUT that is not the issue. If I do that, then the phone will be available.
I want the device to boot with the phone unavailable since no pin is entered.
REMEMBER WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SIM LOCK PIN, NOT SCREEN LOCK PIN.

There is another problem with this solution:
I have TWIN SIMS (2 sims with the same number); however, only one is allowed access to network. If the devices that the sims are installed are both on, then none of the sims is allowed access to network. (The idea being, if you have 2 phones, you do not swap sim all the time).
So it is important that that sim is not activated by entering its pin.
In other words, we want device to go on in "airplane" mode.

If your device is not rooted then unfortunately my first suggestion will not work (Because editing system files such as the build.prop file requires root access), but to answer your question the build.prop file is a file that contains a list of default Android environmental properties and system properties that define a variety of aspects about a device. The edit I suggested refers to SIM lock and SIM status not screen pin lock. Another possible solution besides the parental controls app would be before you give your son the phone is toggle airplane mode and disable all connectivity.
SOLVED!
At the sim pin request screen, press and hold power button, enable "Airplane mode"
DONE.
I think shimp208 desrves a thx for his help...
