[Q] Anyone tested the ICS specific upgrades on the leaks? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Just wondering, other than the "face recognition", what are some of the other major additions to android that come with the upgrade from GB to ICS, ICS leaks etc? And has anyone tried any of them? How are they? Just wondering....

I know you said besides face recognition but I'll have to say using a pin is way faster plus it's really sensitive to light. I turned it off.

The google voice typing/dictation is pretty good even on 4.0.3 (.75 leak), but you have to select it every time via pulldown menu, i can't get it to be the default.

What is this icon I had on my notification bar?

The icon sitting directly next to my blue tooth icon (it looks like three sizes of orange shoes in a Grey box) randomly appeared around game time today while and stayed without any corresponding app I could find.
It went away after a reboot and I haven't seen it return.
Any ideas?

To name the Icons I already know
(Smart actions) (trillian) (lbe privacy guard) (jawbone companion) (MYSTERY) (Blue Tooth)
~~~~~~~edit2~~~~~~
So it has shown back up this time triggered seemingly by playing an mp3 called freestyle by tune me through the built in player.
It now remains after the song was played which was simply a series of percussive beats.
-------edit3-------
Unless there is a built in av for Verizon phones we now know it's not that nor bit defender
------ruled out-------
data saver
smart actions
(*) antivirus
Its the smart actions as far as I know.
Smart actions is the blue icon box far away from my bt icon but thanks for trying. I am mostly worried this could be a bill related thing
Could it be the data saver option? Might have an icon when it's active.
try checking your running apps and services. might be a 3rd party a app or something. Couldn't find anything specific to it when I searched.
I was not knowingly using the data saver feature (as i leave it turned off) however I will look into that possibility
I don't know but you seem to have a lot of stuff installed on your phone, that much is clear!
How's your battery life?
No, I have data saver on, and there's no icon. It does look like some sort of settings icon, though... Like juice defender, or a toggle, maybe? Have you checked the task manager to see what's running?
I've had this before. Its a pair of Orange shoes. When I pulled it down it said "Click to confirm access" Its like installing a new app but when it requires access to something it asks you. As far as I know.
Only thing is there is nothing to interact with in notifications do you know of a way to force availability of interaction?
So get this..... Is this even possible?
So this guy i work with tells me he was talking to 2 guys who work down the street at CDW. Apparently they both had Notes. But, they somehow managed to be running Honeycomb on them. Possible? Now this guy I work with knows cell phones pretty good so I have no reason to doubt him but I figured I'd ask anyway.
are you cool with them.check the firmware and see if its really honeycomb or what version. or maybe there just using a ported rom or a honeycomb theme?.....I'm curious now..
On our international notes we can run ICS in tablet mode complete with the bottom task bar and soft buttons which is probably what you saw
No sir. Honeycomb only came in 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1 and 3.2 I believe.
3.2.6 was released last month - for a Xoom connectivity issue.
Cool idea for tablet ui
Could there be any way to run tge webtop 3.0 ui on the actual phone screen itself? That would make the dpi problems go away
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Theres an app called nebtop but i havent tried it yet. So tempting, let me know if that works for you.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Nebtop is for webtop 2.0 and it just allows you to use webtop on non lapdocks with an hdmi cord. Im talking about running the actual webtop 3.0 on the phone screen itself, not mirroring it to an external display. Doing so would give the effect of a tablet ui on your phone.
Thank you for the response though
For Webtop 3.0 you don't need anything, just plug into HDMI and select Webtop.
@pyroemaniac: isn't DPI have to do with the screen itself and not the UI? and wouldn't running the tablet UI on the phone itself be kinda hard to use
If you lower your dpi in the build.prop you can force ics to go into "tablet" mode but it distorts ui elements and causes instability. With webtop at the right resolution on the phone screen i think could be usable and would eliminate the problems mentioned above with changing the dpi.
Plus i just think it would be cool to use the tablet netflix and other apps on my phone
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
you actually have the best idea I've seen in months! I wish I had the time to write an app to do this!
Yeah i thought it was a pretty good idea, i just don't know if its possible.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
You could try installing safestrap, back up everything, then flash the Web top to the safe system then booting into it. I'm not totally sure about it, but I believe safestrap uses the Web top partition to load a custom ram disk on top of our existing kernel as a way to boot custom roms with a locked boot loader. Though, I would believe that the Web top would need some small tweaking to run correctly, for input, not sure the touch screen drivers would be included... Etc. But if it could be done i wonder with some additional tweaks if we could build a fully functional ubuntu rom...
Here's something I found for the Atrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980193
My think is that it should be able to run as an application almost. I unhooked my phone from my hdmi cord one and my phone kept kept the webtop ui on my screen for about 10 seconds and i was able to control it.. though it was laggy
He is basiclly talking a rom or a launcher with the looks of tablet mode, but on the cellphone screen without connecting anything, something like paranoid android rom we have on samsung galaxy note, i personally tried it on a note and its pretty good, would be cool for Razr.
In a way yes, but what i am talking about is we actually use the webtop software thats already installed on our device. If there was a way to open it like an application that would switch us over to tablet mode "webtop" and when you want to go back to phone mode you just use the same app to switch back.
I think that makes sense haha
All we need is a toggle button to flip one bit. The question though is which bit. Perhaps this thread would garner more serious response if posted in the dev section?
I was going to post the idea in the dev section, but people have a tendency to ***** at you if its not an actual product that your posting.
I totally understand that, and you probably WILL get *****ed at, but maybe one dev will think "great idea & i think i know how to do that." Go ahead and clearly post there exactly what you are talking about. Who knows, we could have that toggle by tomorrow &i bet it would get a LOT of press as it would be a whole new interface for Android phones!
This thread is a little old, but I recently acquired a Razr with a bad ESN and cracked but still working screen to use as a HDMI attached media device. Webtop was giving me a few issues, refusing to switch to tablet mode sometimes, so I decided to see if the dpi could be changed to force it into an always tablet mode.
Using a backup of the stock 4.1.2 ROM in Safestrap slot 1, I changed the DPI to 120 and it seems to be working well, apps still show as compatible in Google Play. I'm using Holo Launcher HD and had to switch some settings to get icons looking right.
Here is what 120DPI looks like if anyone is interested.
Vibration on touch goes on and off.
RAZR Maxx - Verizon Wireless CDMA
I have my settings to vibrate on touch but for some reason it randomly stops vibrating and comes back randomly.
For instance, right now as I write this there is no vibration when I press the keys on the keyboard.
I noticed it after the first time I rooted the phone. After rooting everything was fine. Decided to go back to stock 211 and unroot for the time being. I was using Matts utility and it froze for some reason. It got stuck on writing the webtop part for over an hour so I knew something was not right.
I turned the phone off, closed the utility and started all over again and it went through fine. From since then I've been able to root, flash roms, revert back to stock 211 all using the utility but my vibrations act funny.
I never had the vibrations on touch turned on when I was on gingerbread so I don't know if it's just my phone or if it was the unrooting freeze or what? I never really complained about it but I would like to know if anybody else's phone does this?
try slapping the bottom of your phone against your palm (kevlar against palm) a friends razr did this and that seemed to work, it went awway after a few days
I might sell this phone and roll with something else.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue but I have not rooted it. Also, to get a temporarily fix which lasts for a minute or so, I have to shake the phone. I think the vibration motor is failing.
It's good to know others have the problem too. I thought my phone may have been defected or else I messed it up trying to unroot it the first time round. I might try to get the Maxx HD. But then again it's better off to wait lol, this phone game is moving too fast.
I had this problem too. I reloaded Arctic from scratch making sure to format cache and Dalvik and that still didnt help.
What fixed mine was booting into Safestrap Recovery, going into Advanced, and selecting Fix Permissions.
I realize this won't help the non-rooted folks.
I'll keep that in mind if I root again.
I tried this and it didn't help. The suggestion above (slapping the back of the phone) seems to be working, though. I wonder if my telephone (Razr i) is defective, this started after rooting and unlocking the bootloader. I tried with the GB and EU JellyBean stock ROMS, and I'm currently using this one, all with the same results, does anyone have a similar issue?
I've dealt with two buddies' RAZR phones (Original, and MAXX) and they both have failing vibrator motors. Seems like a hardware design issue. Good thing I went with the Note 2
same issue
motorola razr max
rooted
boot menu manager
tested on all my custom rom (CM10.1 , AOKP , JB 4.2.1) and same issue
anybody have this issue in OTA update and updated bootloader (JB 4.1.2) ?
OTA JB update
I've been thinking about updating manually to JB because I want to experience project butter and the other things that cone with it. My question is, is it worth it to side load it before the ota is released again? Does anyone know if we'll be able to get the new jb update if its different?
I use my Bluetooth, wifi, and gps a lot so I'll need them to be reliable as they are now. I don't need root at this time and I am not currently rooted.
Any thoughts? Is it faster and smoother?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
I loaded 4.1.2 manually on Dec 25. It's made my RAZR much faster and smoother. I've used Google Now quite a bit. If this is not the final version of 4.1.2, we will not be able to install the official OTA unless Motorola provides a patch.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
But I thought this was the same build that some users got from Motorola ota. They won't be able to get the final build either? Surely they'd release a build that would also work for them too?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
It was an OTA, but released by Moto in error. It may not be the final build of Jelly Bean.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
My question is though, and nobody may know this, but if they is a problem with the builds from December, will the next update install on the ones who got it early?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
The official OTA will install only over the 211 build of ICS. That is why a patch would be needed for those on a non-final build of JB.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
Ok. Well with that being said, i probably should just wait for the official final build then.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
That's a good plan, since the OTA will be out this quarter.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
As for myself, I've got 7 months left on contract. By upgrading via side loading last month, I've preserved possibly half of phone's remaining life (in my possession) for a MUCH improved operating system. If there's any defect in the leaked Jelly Bean, I haven't found it yet. My recommendation is to go for it.
Right now I've frozen the updater file using Titanium Backup. I received the OTA on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday and all I can say at this point is I don't like it at all! My Dolphin Browser crashed on me and I cannot stand the new Google search. If there was a way to undo the update on my tablet, I would do so in a heart beat!
I'm the opposite. There's no way I'll ever go back to ICS. I love JB. FWIW, I have 3 devices running either 4.1 or 4.2, and Dolphin works fine on all of them.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
JB's UI animations and transitions among applications are noticeably smoother most of the time. Although others might find it useful, Google Now seems a bit gimmicky to me, although not as annoying as Siri. Unless you root, you will find that using your phone as a free WiFi hot spot is, for now, lost, until utilities like FoxFi catch up to JB. Not much else is new. That said, I would install JB again (rooted). It's not a huge improvement, but it is an improvement.
