[Q] Disable noise reduction CM9 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Since ive flashed CM9 onto my S3 I have very pool call quality. The sound that I get sounds really disturbed from the caller and back.
Ive read that maybe disabling noise reduction could fix this. Does anyone know how to disable this in CM9?
Thanks in advance guys!

in call you will have a mic symbol below, press it to enable/disable noise reduction

Im having the exact same issue. Its not the modem too, tried two others already.
When getting back to stock the problem is solved. But when returning to stock by a nandroid backup, the problem persists. Thats odd!
Edit:
Maybe nothing to do with it: but the TS en I are on the same provider!?

Exactly the same over here, does anyone have an idea what this could be.
Did you use a dutch modem?

Another user with the same provider and the same problem.
I tried flashing the stock-rom modem and even that doesnt work at all!!!
Please, someone?

I am working on a application level fix that will disable noise reduction on (potentially) all Samsung devices that can do so. Please register your interest here.

Disable Noise Cancellation??

Hiya guys. Yes i am the dumbass who dropped a dumbell onto the galaxy. Phone is now fixed .......moving on
Anyways i get complaints of an echo noise off the person on the recieving end everytime i use a protective case to cover the device, but if i disable noise cancellation everything works fine echo free.
MY QUESTION: is there a way of disabling noise cancellation differently rather than having to do it during a call everytime which can get rather annoying!
Thanks in advance

If you update to KG1 (2.3.4) you will have the option. Once you get on a call and its answered, the icon / option shows up.
Some confusion to whether if its OFF by default and you can turn it on OR its ON by default and you can turn it off.
Anyway, its there once you get on 2.3.4
didn't find the option in any where...
This is the only thing that bugs me about this fantastic phone!

My brother has this exact same problem. We tried everything except hard reset...
His solution....buy a new case lol.
Its random I guess coz my wife and I also have SGS2 and we use that case just fine.

Im using VillainRom 2.0 and its OFF by default, when you press Menu and then press NOISE REDUCTION OFF, it actually turns it ON.
I think the option is saying that the NR is off, then if u press it, it will be ON.
Tested myself with my brother on a noisy street, sound is more silent when I press NOISE REDUCTION OFF.
I have tried two different cases and both encounter same problem. Arghhhh very frustrating!

If the case covers the bottom area (mic) I think you will have this problem. Be very interested to know if hard reset mat fix
No the area around the mic and charger port are cut open so that cant be the problem

The noise cancellation should be at the top of the phone. Right next to the ear phones jack slot. For my GSII, the Noise Cancellation cannot be disabled permanently. It is always enabled whenever a call is made/received. I've to manually disable it once the the call is connected. Unfortunately I'm still finding out solutions. Will share of course

Ghost sound notification.

Hi guys, extremely frustrating problem I have.
It has happened on two different ROM's so I don't think it's a glitch with the ROM as such, but of a file or possible app in my phone.
I have even used rom toolbox to delete every notification sound, yet this ghost noise still occurs.
It usually happens after I unlock my phone, the noise resembles something similair to the notification sound 'deneb'
No idea what it is, or how I can shut it up, once again it sometimes happens, othertimes it doesn't.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

URGENT. Phone rings people and they can hear me but i cannot hear them

Hey every body.
I'm having a nightmare with my s3.
Back at the start of April I changed my from from stock to cyanogen mod 9.1.
It was rooted prior to this and never gave any issues.
Cyanogen 9.1 worked perfect until today. I'm not sure if its an issue with the ROM or the phone
Symptoms are if I call somebody there us no dial tone but I can tell when they answer because the timer starts timing the call but I hear nothing.
They can hear me alright but that's it.
I tried flashing back my stock from but the phone won't recognize the next SD card.
Can anyone help please. I need this phone working
Thanks
Looks like the issue sorted itself out on its own accord.
Can anyone shed some light on what to do if it does it again?
I have got the same issue. I don't know why is it happening, but I have the solution.
###
Turn ON the screen lock sound in the audio settings. Restart your S3. Thats it. Keep it on.

Make sure when you are switching from Speaker mode, you switch into "Handset Earpiece", and not something else like a connected Bluetooth. Also, be sure you didn't accidentally press "Mute" to mute the microphone.

Funny I had the same problem with my old phone (Z3v), one reason I got a new one before the warranty expired, never figured out why or how to fix it, new phone works fine in that respect.
Sorry not much help.

Can you go into the service menu and test this out? Look in the section on here "Tips and Tricks" for how to access the service menu.
*#*#7378423#*#* as if you are dialing that number.
ya.. tried... they are working well... the problem with switching them while in a call...
I've flashed this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/mod-call-recording-mod-t3102277 to activate call recording.... may be this is infecting....
Can we undo flashing?
That thread doesn't even list the z3V. You must be carefulwhat you flash.

Why do you need this? There are probably plenty of other alternatives, but this is most likely not going to be helpful for you. If you want to revert the issue, flash back the stock Lollipop.
ya .... I've done it. but restore didn't help. anyway successful!

mic problem

From the past few days I'm observing that people can't hear me clearly until and unless I put the mic very near to my mouth from normal position. But when I tried recording with mic from a normal it clearly record the audio without any problem.
Moreover my in ear volume becomes low too.
I tried flashing several custom eui based Roms and nougat Roms and kernel. The problem remains same. Is it a hardware issue or some software issue?
Anyone?

Hello it is a pity that no one can help us.
Have the same problem.
Think it is a software problem, because if I save my backup over TWRP everything is okay.
Can u share your twrp backup?

Same problem.
Hello, unfortunately does not go.
But the idea is not bad.
The thought that someone installed a system fresh.
And then upload it as Twrp backup (upload)
Let's see if someone finds.
If it works it can help many.
Same problem here... first i thought it is a hardware-problem, but when i "normal" call someone without BT or freespeaking he could hear me clear.
But every ROM i tested had this issue....
What ROM are you using where it is working?
