Been from Central Park & Down to Battery Park Sunday...so no.
Not to mention although they're in the 1st round, I haven't heard of any work being done yet.
Oh & root/ROM has nothing to do with connecting to it.

They have been testing towers and only certain keys have access. I have 2 ltes one gets 4g one doesn't. I'm in Chicago.

I don't even know how to turn on my LTE. Definitely shouldn't be working anywhere though, from everything I've read.

Depends on where you are...If you get lucky, you can catch a tower that is being tested, but this is not normal. They should not be "live", but upon occasion you can get one in the network vision upgrade areas.
I had one for about 35 minutes in central Wisconsin last week (and they still havent disabled WiMax after over a month). It just pops up and goes dark.
Something tells me the LTE towers are going to light up in quick order as the towers upgrades get finished in staged areas.

if I'm not mistaken, certain areas in Texas will be the first to officially have LTE when it is deployed. In the network settings, you have the option to either use 3G/4G lte or just 3G cdma. I'd switch to just 3G for the time being. WiMax will be around until the end of 2015 as Sprint still has a contractual agreement with Clearwire, their current 4G WiMax provider.

What is your EVO 4G LTE 3G speed?

So, for all of those lucky enough to receive the new EVO, what is your 3G speed. Post your speedtest screenshots and let us know what city you are in.

Some tests I ran between my 3D and LTE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26511061&postcount=2
I'd really like to see a comparison of WiMax speeds versus the 3G speeds of the LTEVO. I'm sure WiMax will still be faster, but I'm curious to see by how much.
Since I'm keeping my OG activated (for WiMax) until LTE is active in my area, it would be nice if the numbers were close enough for me to avoid having to carry around two phones for several months .
I'll post a speed test shortly

Wow. That's ridiculous. I've read it is faster on 3G than other phones (namely the 3D), but I wonder if most zones will see that much improvement. Seems hard to believe.

3G for me on the LTE is between 500-700kbps while the unofficial 4G (not on Sprints map but shows on Clear's and connects as Sprint). I just ran my 3D on WiMax to Speedtest it. In my house with 1 bar of 4G and I got 5490kbps down. So you will probably want to carry 2 phones for a bit
I've done three speedtests and average 280 kbps down and 350 up here in Minneapolis with 1-3 bars in my apartment building.
Edit: though I did just get this...
My OG EVO, EVO 3D, and Epic 4G Touch have all had atrocious 3G speeds. Way below other carriers. This phone appears to have great 3G speeds (relatively), and my girlfriend's Sprint iPhone 4S also gets pretty good 3G speeds. I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint purposely throttles data from certain devices and allocates more data to others. Makes sense that they would want iPhone uses to have decent data, they don't have a 4G option. Similar to the EVO LTE, no LTE in the immediate future for most.
I bring this up because it's common knowledge that Sprint's 3G is absolutely garbage, when it fact it could be Sprint purposely throttling data. I wonder what would happen if they just opened up the pipes even to everyone.
Once NetworkVision upgrades are done all this will be moot....not worth fretting over now...
Comparing WiMax to the 3G speed is a pointless task as well, imho....different animals all together; and no phone is going to be faster than the another on 3G really in areas where the problem is capacity ridden issues...In areas its not, then you can see benefit/differences due to different antennae tech and radios used...

Please don't dismiss this as not important, having usable 3g speeds until network vision comes out is important to many of us.We want this phone to succeed in all ways.
I haven't been able to test my speeds yet as it is taking forever (more than an hour so far) to download 6 apps over 3g. I screwed up and didn't test my OG Evo before I deactivated it, but it sure seems like the new lte Evo is a lot slower so far. I will update after it finally gets the speed test app downloaded.

Wasn't dismissing the importance of 3G speed as much as caring about the difference b/w what you got on your 3D and what you get now with the LTE...like I said no matter what phone you have the capacity troubled areas will continue to get slow speeds until NetworkVision is deployed in your area...Also its highly unlikely you will see a phone released that will get half the speed of its predecessor over 3G so there should be no worry really...b/c 90% any slow speed issues experienced here will be network related issues and not the phone...

not getting LTE, why? ROM?

I haven't seen LTE or 4G on my phone once. This is really odd because I live blocks from the KC sprint campus. I have even driven into their parking lot and sitting there got only 3G still.
I know this has to be on my end because there's no way that in their own campus in their main center they don't have a tower running it since this was the first location to receive LTE. Is this something that could be dependent on the ROM i'm using. I'm running viper 1.21 which others have said they get LTE with so I don't think it's that.
Do I need to possibly flash a new radio? Is there something else going on?
Yeah, ur not in an LTE area. Either that or Idk find someone with an EVO and see if they get LTE in the same spot.

I know for sure I'm in an LTE area because KC is the first and I live directly next to their huge campus here. I have a few friends who work for them, actually everyone in this town has worked for them at one point or another, lol. And they said we do have it in this area now.

Strange that they wouldn't start with their own campus. But I guess I was just spoiled by t-mobiles insanely fast network speeds before switch to sprint. Kinda a bad decision on my part but I thought I wanted an Iphone, until I had it a couple days and took back that turd to get another android phone. By that point I was stuck in to a sprint contract with dial-up speed.

Some hope with Sprint's network vision

I just wanted to share some good news with the Sprint users here. Sprint recently launched LTE in the Chicago area and for a while I haven't seen any major improvements near me (south of Chi-town). For those in this area, I did a speed test in Lockport earlier tonight and pulled down 2-3Mbps. Normally, I might get 100-200 Kbps. I know many people have been suffering with far less than that, but wanted to let people know it's getting better!

No doubt Sprint is concentrating on the population centers that they think will bring in the most revenue, just like my next upgrade will depend on which carrier can supply competitive 4G coverage in my area.

No our phones use 802.11e instead of the LTE protocols while some say a update could allow us to use it no one has really backed it up.
While 802.11e was the first revision of wimax and the next would have been better than LTE but to many others adopted LTE. YOu will need your upgrade to get a LTE device.
My upgrade is on the first of jan so I will be getting a nexus LTE device but won't see LTE here for a few years.
Seriously. Why would I use any newer phone if I have to drop back to 3G? I've been lucky and had unlimited WiMax since original EVO. Getting my girl a used Sensation off Craigslist and going to hook her up with Straight Talk. If the speeds are good maybe I'll go that route for a while. GSM Nexus off contract is probably the way I'll go next time.

New Update and LTE

As the title reads, for those of you who are running the update that was just released, are LTE handoffs working better? Have you noticed any improvement in LTE as a result of the update?
LTE (which is only available in some parts of my city, Vallejo, CA) handoffs after the update seem to be more-or-less the same here.
Thanks for weighing in Jigsaw. I live in NYC and in my neighborhood we have LTE. Trying to see if I should do the update.
I'm in Kansas City, no change for me.
I get great 4G at work, all the time.
For about a month I had good 4G at home. But lately at home, 4G will show up for a minute or so, then go back to 3G. Never sticks anymore. Don't know what changed, but I didn't change anything on my phone and have even flashed back to stock once to see if that helped.
Did you flash the jellybean update?
I'm in Dallas, TX and it seems the radio update has done me no good. I am wondering if the tower upgrades they are doing is the problem.

I'm in the exact same boat. So it's not just my area that's doing this, then. I don't know what to think about that.
I was consistently pulling down 20-30Mbps and anywhere from 6-10Mbps up until about a week and a half ago. Slightly worrying.
3G speeds are fine with me, honestly. Not really any harm there as long as it's consistently available. The faster speeds were definitely appreciated, though. It'd be nice to know what's happening.
The only reason I'm checking xda is to see if these radios have fixed the lte problem. Kinda nice to see it posted right here. There was a thread the other day about cm10 fixing the eHRPD issue that was removed too. Glad I saw it when I did.

Agreed. My hope was to take a poll of whether or not the update made a difference. And with the increase in network speed, I'm hoping that more customers migrate/return to Sprint, and ensuring that we keep truly unlimited data. Not unless they get greedy...

Sounds interesting, but I remember thinking the same thing 2 years ago... I really want to give Sprint the benefit of the doubt but it's tough when my wife is getting 30 mbps down with at&t while I'm lucky to get 3 sitting right next to her. It kinda defeats the purpose of having unlimited data if you're limited in what you can do with it.

Almost every single tower in the country will get 1900MHz LTE. The TDD LTE came out of the Clearwire acquisition and won't effect the rollout of the LTE that your phone can use.
TDD LTE will have higher speeds but a much shorter range, and is designed to compliment, not replace, the 1900 (and eventually 800) MHz LTE.
