New Update and LTE - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

As the title reads, for those of you who are running the update that was just released, are LTE handoffs working better? Have you noticed any improvement in LTE as a result of the update?

LTE (which is only available in some parts of my city, Vallejo, CA) handoffs after the update seem to be more-or-less the same here.

Thanks for weighing in Jigsaw. I live in NYC and in my neighborhood we have LTE. Trying to see if I should do the update.

I'm in Kansas City, no change for me.
I get great 4G at work, all the time.
For about a month I had good 4G at home. But lately at home, 4G will show up for a minute or so, then go back to 3G. Never sticks anymore. Don't know what changed, but I didn't change anything on my phone and have even flashed back to stock once to see if that helped.

Did you flash the jellybean update?

I'm in Dallas, TX and it seems the radio update has done me no good. I am wondering if the tower upgrades they are doing is the problem.

Yup, new radios and ROM. No change.
Still don't understand why I had 4G at home for a month, no problems, then all of a sudden I don't.

My handoffs were perfect before the update on sense and are still perfect now.

Theres a Q and A section where this should be... because its a question.

Happened to me too. Sprint tech said I am in an area that was "testing" lte. So now after 2 months of lovely 4g I'm back to the unbearable 3g :banghead:

Youre right i am. Theres a q and a section for a reason. If we started posting everywhere no one would find anything.

I'm in the exact same boat. So it's not just my area that's doing this, then. I don't know what to think about that.
I was consistently pulling down 20-30Mbps and anywhere from 6-10Mbps up until about a week and a half ago. Slightly worrying.
3G speeds are fine with me, honestly. Not really any harm there as long as it's consistently available. The faster speeds were definitely appreciated, though. It'd be nice to know what's happening.

The only reason I'm checking xda is to see if these radios have fixed the lte problem. Kinda nice to see it posted right here. There was a thread the other day about cm10 fixing the eHRPD issue that was removed too. Glad I saw it when I did.

I don't think this is a Q and A topic - I think this is someone asking other people's' opinion about the update. Q and A is 1 question looking for 1 answer.... BUT this is just my OPINION

lte 3g hand off
I'm in Minnesota and have the jb update. No change for me. This sucks what's up with this phone.
Edit: tried a few different towers and it does work better. Happy. Hope this stays

Agreed. My hope was to take a poll of whether or not the update made a difference. I find that many people in this community get excited about the potential of thread closings and enjoy being combative. I'm just trying to create a central thread for people to weigh in on the LTE issue, not clutter our forum with poorly categorized threads.

After updating I immediately came up on 4g in my house where I have always had 3g, even between 2 towers less than 1 mile away so I would say a great improvement and I have connection manager disabled for reference.

Evo 4G LTE users finally get Sprint 4G LTE on July 15th!
I can't quite post links yet since I'm new but a quick Google search would pull up the Sprint community thread describing this date.
I don't know about you guys, but the speeds that LTE offers exceeds the speed I get at home on my ISP.. plus on my side of the house even Sprint's 3g beats my home wireless . I'm excited to see how the network holds up and how battery life is influenced.. The discussion that the antenna is on the processor similar to 3g and that battery life will be similar is making me antsy to find out.. Maybe it'll be even better since over here in Dallas LTE towers seem to be everywhere.. What do you guys think about this?

Sorry man but this isn't new news. Here in the General section there's a buncha threads on this. The 15th is the first round to about 5 cities I believe. And that's it. Other markets follow over the next 2 years. Considering your new here, these guys should take it easy on ya. RIGHT FELLAS?

Chicago 3G speed improvement

3G speeds Chicago. Took only prl update NOT software update and am experiencing actual USABLE 3G speeds!,very exciting stuff just hit 2.1 mgbs down on speedtest. Net app. PRevious best prob around 1.5 but that was off peak. Anyone else in chi or burbs seeing same?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Actually yes. I'm in the southwestern burbs.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
ive noticed this also
I'm in chicago over by elston and lawrence, and my speed tests just got me 500kbps down, 60kbps up. This is pathetic 3g coverage, and its with full bars and its almost 11pm at night.
I'm 20 miles west of clevland and speeds here seemed to be a lot better here also.. will check when im downtown tomorrow
I think this has less to do with PRL updates and more to do with NV. I experienced this same thing earlier this week. The increased speeds have gone since then. I also took the new PRL but am getting the speeds I normally get. I am getting increased upload speeds with the new radio, however.

im out of town in vegas at the moment and doesn't matter how many updates you get your gonna get pounded (screwed) when it comes to 3g when on the strip so when im back in lemont (little south west of chicago) ill do some tests. i averaged 1.1mbps at my house and crap everywhere else so hopefully this update fixes everywhere else thats not my house haha
I live in Plainfield and have absolutely horrible 3G. (just started a new 2year about 5 days ago) but to my understanding theyre implementing 4g LTE int othe towers and upgrading the 3g network aswell.

Anyone in the Northwest Suburbs experiencing issues with service? I can make calls, but only receive calls when I'm talking on the phone already. I'm also having problems receiving text messages. Oh you're over by that CVS there... I'm actually heading there in a minute, haha. I haven't S-off'd my phone, due to the risk of soft-brick, and now it looks like I have to for the OTA, which is irritating. I'll admit, I'm nervous about this too. I just want kernel source to allow devs to get CM9 or AOKP going so I don't have to worry about any of this business.

I have the same issue, and can even reproduce the behavior by calling my phone from my wife's. 9 out of 10 times it misses the call at my house. Strangely enough, if I toggle GPS on, I consistnently get 8 out of 10 calls... that's without an active lock too. Very strange to say the least.
I've noticed huge improvements! When I'm at the gym tomorrow I'm going to try facebook out cause whenever I tried before it would take forever to load. I just can't wait for lte to go live for us in the suburbs.

not getting LTE, why? ROM?

I haven't seen LTE or 4G on my phone once. This is really odd because I live blocks from the KC sprint campus. I have even driven into their parking lot and sitting there got only 3G still.
I know this has to be on my end because there's no way that in their own campus in their main center they don't have a tower running it since this was the first location to receive LTE. Is this something that could be dependent on the ROM i'm using. I'm running viper 1.21 which others have said they get LTE with so I don't think it's that.
Do I need to possibly flash a new radio? Is there something else going on?
Yeah, ur not in an LTE area. Either that or Idk find someone with an EVO and see if they get LTE in the same spot.

I know for sure I'm in an LTE area because KC is the first and I live directly next to their huge campus here. I have a few friends who work for them, actually everyone in this town has worked for them at one point or another, lol. And they said we do have it in this area now.

Strange that they wouldn't start with their own campus. But I guess I was just spoiled by t-mobiles insanely fast network speeds before switch to sprint. Kinda a bad decision on my part but I thought I wanted an Iphone, until I had it a couple days and took back that turd to get another android phone. By that point I was stuck in to a sprint contract with dial-up speed.

Yes 4G LTE is on. The problem is the coverage is spotty at best. Sprint decided to launch the market with less then half the towers in our area upgraded.
Check this out.. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/
I'm in KC and its the same story here.
Their coverage maps shows the whole city blanketed in coverage. But that's more like a completed picture.
They should just stop giving out dates if they aren't going to at least somewhat live up to it. The few times I picked up 4g, was only outside and my speeds never exceeded 1.5m.
By going "live" on the 15th, just meant they wouldnt be blocking your connection anymore. Its still a good luck finding it situation though.

With the launch of LTE, DFW was on the list of having LTE. Phone never connected to LTE. After serveral phone calls, I was told the same thing, that the networks where being upgraded and scheduled to be completed in December. I see LTE every now and then now, but not long enough to get any use out of it. Speed Test showed it to be slower than 3G when I was able to connect. I got credit for 4 months (AUG -NOV) until LTE is fully up and running.

If Sprint gave you an exact date, and especially from a representative over the phone, they're definitely lying to you.
While I seriously doubt that's the date, I sure hope it is. I am sick of slower than dialup speeds on 3G and constant weak signal.
NYC and several other major cities have been announced to go live within the next several months, which means NYC can get it earlier than scheduled.....Finally able to use phone to the fullest
Has anyone in the NYC area gotten LTE signals yet? Wonder if they will test it before going live.
