RAZR MAXX Rooted and I am running titanium backup. Noticed even though I have an app froze it still updates in the market.
I thought that freezing the app would make it invisible to the market?
What am I missing...
there's settings in Titanium backup for that.
I have always had that checked on "Remove Market entry"
Example:
I have gmail froze and even rebooting the razr they still show up in the play store for updates???
What gives...
Where there used to be a file on the phone with the list of apps installed that the market used to know what may or may not need updating, the latest market update stores a list of apps on its own server now. So the list that titanium modifies no longer works. The only way to get the updates off the update list is to uninstall the app.

I'm not sure if this option is available on GB (been on ICS for too long) but just use the stock features to remove them. I've uninstalled or disabled all "bloat" from my phone from the stock settings which also removed the market links and they no longer attempt to update. This is probably less likely to affect OTA's.

So ICS gives you the option to remove just about any app (as long as it is not crucial to to OS)?

I confirmed in /system/app with root explorer and the .apk files are still there. They aren't renamed to .bak like I believe Root Explorer does.

Awesome, thanks. Do those are no longer pulling from the market for updates? Or show up in a task manager as running?
Would be nice to save a bit more battery to not have all that running.
I have most of it set in my task manager to auto-kill.. but they always seem to pop up

Backup Assistant and Zumo are the only two I can't disable. No other "bloat" runs. Using an autokiller is bad. The apps will continue to open and close and drain your battery even worse than just letting them run.
I checked the market and it shows the bloat is installed and COULD be updated but they don't pop up requesting updates.

Although ICS allows deleting bloatware how can it be confirmed that deleting the bloat will not mess up OTA updates right now, since theoretically all the Razrs should be on GB.
Just curious..

That's not confirmed. I'm on the first ICS leak so I can sbf back to GB, then OTA. Which I'll have to do since I've deodexed my phone and installed the 1% battery mod. But I'm sure the OTA will be posted on XDA before it ever finds my phone. So I'll probably install it manually which is what I assume everyone else on the leaks will be doing.
There is a small chance that an OTA will pop up since the system # should be higher than those of the leaks. In that case the OTA SHOULD install on a leak with disabled system apps since no system apps have been removed or altered, just disabled in factory settings.

I'm on the rooted stock MT4G rom, and joined the swype beta when I had the MT3G. Last week I got a notification that the new beta was ready. Is there a way to update my swype with the latest and greatest beta?
It won't work on this phone
i got it to work on mine, i had to un-install swype then i did a search for files with swype in them and deleted all of them, then the installer worked and the new swype also worked " version 2.15.56.14870". I got it to work on the release day, and it has been working well.

Interesting, swype themselves said that it would not due to the firmware..
Edit- confirmed working beta! I used root explorer to find all the swype files. I suggest you click r/w before you search.
You are the man sir...and quite frankly I'm annoyed I didn't try this myself lol.
Well damn. I need to try this. I was without swype for weeks because I deleted the default one and tried to install my beta. It was saying the english pack was missing or something
Thank you sir. One file I wasn't deleting was the problem. Works now! I have my mic back!

I used root explorer. go into system, menu, search, enter swype. delete the apk and the other file. reboot. you might wanna copy them to your card first just in case
so just deleting those files will allow the installer to work? do you happen to know what the filenames were?
I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, and then deleted everything with swype in the name with Root Explorer, and then installed the new Swype beta. It constantly FCs. This just won't work for me...

I deleted the app using system app app removal then using root explorer to search for anything with swype (2 files I don't remember the name) then I'm able to install another swype version.

Hey guys. Its been a while since ive posted anything, so i figured id share this small thing i did.
I was absolutely sick and tired of the home screen of tmobile's visual voicemail app. I thought it was absolutely hideous, so i went ahead and changed it, along with a bit of the button framework. Also the launcher icon, so its not pink anymore.
nothing major here, just one of those little things that might make your voicemail experience just a weenie bit better. enjoy.

Download attached .apk to sdcard, and install using a file manager.
***If you have visual voicemail currently installed (either as a system OR third-party app) it needs to be uninstalled BEFORE installing this modded version.
MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THIS AS A THIRD-PARTY APP, NOT A SYSTEM APP. IF IT REFUSES TO LET YOU INSTALL, YOU HAVE TO FIX PERMISSIONS, WIPE CACHE/DALVIK CACHE!

Im running trigger 3.1. I remember it gave me a little bit of an attitude when i first tried to install it as well.
Are you trying to install it as a system app? because that could be why. I remember I wasnt able to do that, which is why i noted to install as a third party app from your sdcard. but if thats what youre doing, then i have no idea why it wouldnt work.
Ive uninstalled older version and downloaded this on to the sd card than tried to install as a 3rd party app and all it tells me is not installed

OK. No one else has reported the issue expect for you two, and youre both running Trigger 3.0, so I guess we can assume that it doesnt like the ROM...which is VERY odd. In fact i almost refuse to believe that, because realistically, any app that i can run as a third-party app, you should be able to as well.
unfortunately i dont have a solid answer.
only things i can think of is use root explorer, go to /system/app and just double check to make sure vvm-signed.apk (or something like that) isnt there. also go into something like titanium backup or system app remover, and make sure it doesnt show up. theres a small possibility that there was some data left behind, which you could wipe with titanium.
these are the only things i could think of
I don't know if it has anything to do with it but there is an updated version in the market. I can't install it on Trigger 3.2 Final.

yah that wouldnt have anything to do with it. This modded version is based on the VVM apk that came with Trigger 3.1.
if its working on my phone, theres no reason why it wouldnt work on anyone else's, regardless of the ROM...this would indicate that the people who are having trouble may not be getting clean uninstalls. It is a very odd issue, but all i can advise is make sure there are absolutely no traces of Visual Voicemail anywhere on your phone.

Yes, I fixed permissions. On Trigger 3.2 Final, the Visual VM is vvm-signed.apk and is in the \system\app folder. I tried to rename it, then totally deleted it. Tried doing a normal install = fail, then a push to \system\app. Is there some other folder to try? Wi;; you be updating to the current APK? (assuming I can get it to work!)
how do I install as a third party app? Mine keeps saying it is a system app.
Thanks bro it helped. I was making a mistake lol Awsome tweaked APk

With all the storage available, and if you are going to use an ext sd card as well, good rule of thumb is to use an app like System Tuner or Titanium and FREEZE apps/services instead of deleting. Much less of a PITA should you encounter an issue, and you still save RAM.

You can disable most of them under settings>applications. That's the easiest way and works without root. Then titanium after that. I definitely wouldn't delete anything until you flash a recovery and do a full backup. Even if you don't do a full backup at least you have a way of flashing a new rom if you delete the wrong thing.
I freeze things using Titanium Backup as well. Its the best way to go. I've already found a few things it didn't like.

Thanks a lot, bro. One question, is there much difference between this one and the one Mikeyxda put out, the M7_offline.zip? Just curious...
Edit: This works well, thanks again!

i didnt see that one so i dont know. I just needed google now so i posted what i made for my self. lol
When you say disable security do you mean allow unknown sources?
I am on the base .5, rooted and unlocked with FreeGee .5. Installed the zip(painlessly), but no Google Now. It tries to start, then crashes with "android.process.acore" has stopped. Also, Google Voice no longer will start. Restoring backup, and will try again...
BTW, very nice to see another developer in the mix. I am never afraid to try something new.

What does it mean to have security disabled?
The security thing is for those of you that only rooted and did not use the bootloader unlock exploit. Just make sure you have a CMW backup that works before using.
Speaking of backups, I found out (the hard way) that backups taken with the original non-touch freegree CWM do not restore! My problem with the Google Now and android.process.acore was cleared up with a simple clear data per adfurgerson's suggestion, so no harm no foul for me. But if you still have the non-touch version of CWM, install the touch version THEN take a backup.

If you are doing it from your phone and it is bringing you to our "mobile" site, you will need to click the "full" site link. From there you shouldn't have any issues with downloading the attachment.

You could also try a different browser. Dolphin or naked browser are good.

Nice, seems to be working well, but I can't get it to launch apps. For example, if I say "open app Pandora" or "launch Pandora" it does a google search for the phrase instead of launching the app. Any ideas?

Hmm not sure this is related to this tweak in particular but I get a error when I first use the Google search icon and it force closes
"could not opt you in to lattitude please check your map settings "
Thing is that every thing in location settings in maps is enabled
Any ideas?
