Contacts force closing - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anytime I try to add to or create new contact, the application force closes. Occasionally when trying to call from my call log, it does also. Im rooted running stock 2.3, locked bootloader. Any ideas on what could be wrong or how to fix this?

This would affect my stock gb rom? And why would it just gave begun recently when I've had no problem since sept when I got my phone? No changes have been made except a couple game apps.

What rom are you on? Did you download the ics google+? Its just the most common cause. Happened to me its because google+ interacts with contacts like facebook. If that's not the issue fix permissions in recovery. Last resort reflash

Have not downloaded any apps that should interfere with contacts. Any idea who I need to contact about this. This is a major deal if I can't even add new contacts.

Are you freezing any apps via Titanium Backup? I had a similar issue to this and the culprit was freezing Yahoo authenticator I believe

Oh crap. I uninstalled that since I froze it for so long and had no adverse affects. Restoring via tibu hangs if I try. Crap.
EDIT... I didnt uninstall or freeze the yahoo contacts, but the yahoo mail authenticator I did. I don't use yahoo. Is this the culprit?

Yes! Freezing Yahoo Authentication (an also others) cause the Contacts app to crash when editing or adding contacts!
Restore your Authentication apps and have your Contact editing back!

you can use a gingerbread sbf to flash your phone with RSDlite, but be very careful as the wrong .sbf file can hard brick your phone.
this is the only way to go back to stock if you don't have an unlocked bootloader.

Worked like a charm! And if it wasn't for Link2sd, I would have had to reinstall each app one by one thru tibu! With that, I told it which partition to use, restarted and viola! Everything except widgets was back! I love it! Thank you for all your help.

You could try using the market doctor in Titanium Backup.
I have exactly the same issue...
Changing rom, titanium market doctor, different markets, full wipe, factory resets, full partition formatting... Anything is solving the issue...
I've managed to get my apps some time but it only last for a couple of days and then went back to nothing...
I haven't found a solution yet and I do think is something related to the android market database.
I've also installet 4ext manager (free one) and when I've tried to upgrade it to the pro version available in market it doesn't allow me to install it as app appears as if I have already bought it but I've never do it before so download is canceled as I have never paid the app and I'm not offered to pay for it.
It seems we have a new Android Market issue.
I've contacted some people at the android market to explain my issue but they told me as that I have a custom rom they can't give me support.
No solution found yet
At least I'm not alone I guess. I tried the market doctor, I'm on Miui and normally update weekly but didn't this week, so it's nothing I've flashed that could be causing it. It worked yesterday morning, then yesterday evening I had nothing. Very frustrating

MIUI has these random issues. One mainly that it breaks GPL laws as well as random issues coming from being translated from Chinese. I would try and see if it works on CM based roms (it should as i dont have this problems nor has anyone on my team.)
Since I've used MIUI, I don't see many app what I bought, so a can't reinstall that. On PC market shows these app as bought, but it says my device is not compatible.

Yeah its a known issue as the device shows as a china device which the google market blocks as it is not allowed in China.
@12gage
Try to uninstall a free app and reinstall it.
@ddd613
Did you changed your screen density? Otherwise you can try to change your build.prop to show up as a different device.
So what can I do? Is it depending for the translation ? I'm using hungarian translation, with hungarian settings. Do Google not see my provider? Is problem with build.prop?

As this issue is an MIUI issue I would look on the MIUI site as no development is done here
Here I have this same problem. In my case happens my two devices are using same account market (Acer Iconia A500 with stock rom 3.2 and Milestone with CM-7.1.0.7). I've tried full wipe on both devices but the problem remains

Media Hub APK

Does anyone have the latest media hub apk for ATT GS2? I'm using a custom rom with an older apk, and now it tells me that I need to update to use media hub, but when I go to update, Market shows nothing. I think it has to do with compatability, media hub does work on my rom tho.
I'd appreciate if someone can post the apk, or pull it off a stock rom =D
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Here's the link to the current MediaHub apk

Edit Dec 10: seems like a number of people are having the market not allow them to download Media Hub. So here's a link to it I just uploaded. It is upto date as of December 4.

Hrrrmmmmm, it shows up fine if you put a space between media and hub.
Shows up for me too. With and without the space.
Sent from my páhhōniē
I tried with a space, but no luck. I think it has to do with the fact that it is a samsung app and I'm guessing it's programmed to show up on market with TouchWiz. I'm not running TouchWiz. And from what I recall, when I was on UnNamed, it used TouchWiz I think.
Any thoughts? Is there a way to force Market to show all apps, regardless of what device is being used?

Android spyware?

Does this happen and how?
After I installed the official grupon app from the market I have been getting notifications every time the phone is powered up from being completely shut off for ads. It's weird as hell. Uninstalled the app but the ads keep coming. It's not a huge deal but it is annoying. I'm sure a full wipe would fix it. but I would like to avoid that if possible.
anyone else expedience anything similar, and if so how do you fix this?

Yes I am... Is that a problem with the newest release?
This has happened to me as well. I did a full wipe and it went away. These is probably some file that has been kept inside the phone to allow ads. If so, then its probably stored in a "residue" folder as I call them. Which is kind of like traces of an app. If there is none then a wipe will be necessary. Have you tried rebooting the phone? Or clearing the cache?

I'll clear cache now and see if its persists.
EDIT:
Ok just cleared my cache, wiped dalvik, battery stats and am repairing permissions in the recovery now. I'll let you all know what happens.
I have never had one of these notifications until tonight as well. I received it right after I had installed go launcher. First time using the launcher so that was my "calculated" guess. I rebooted after seeing it and it has not happened since.
Edit: are the three other posters in this topic using go launcher?
There are apps on the market that will tell you what it is....just search for Push notification something will come up..... illegal downloader apps are usually the culprit ...and its definitely not GO launcher they are on of the best group of Devs without question.....I have been using Go for 2 years pretty much exclusively and NEVER had a problem.

Have you uninstalled any apps you suspected? If so reinstall and launch it, and then run the Airpush app or whatever one you have. After it scans try uninstalling the app through the system settings....manage applications>clear cache then clear data and then uninstall. Thats how I cured my wife's phone when she was downloading music from MP3 Music downloader.
If that don't work you have a real good reason to reflash

Wow. Surprised no educated member decided to help. These are push-ads. They're generally caused by shadier developers of apps on the market. If you install an ad blocker from the market, and one for push-ads you wouldn't get these.
A better solution is to read what you download first, so you KNOW if the dev uses push-ads so you can avoid those apps to begin with.

It's maybe a little late to offer a solution, but today I finally found out what could be the problem:
I normally share my pictures with "All friends, except ... " (please excuse wrong translation; don't know how it's called in English) and all my picture uploads failed without exception. Today I wanted to share a picture with "All" my friends and... it work perfectly! I tried some more and it seems my problems are gone.
So my possible solution:
-> You have to share with "all", not with some groups or with excluded people. The Facebook App and mobile site is too stupid to work with its own lists.
When creating a new post, just tap the little gear in the lower right corner and select share with "all". It's no solution for pics you don't want to show everyone of course, but it's the only workaround that allows you to upload at all.
Click to collapse
--
it is enough to only have one list of selfmade friend list. U do not have to share to "all" but u can make list of friends that can see your pictures, call it for example "see mypic friends" and only have that in the . But if u share it to: "see mypic friends" and "mom and dad" at the same it fails

I gave up on the Facebook app, and also didn't like the alternatives some listed in this thread. Best thing I did was make a bookmark of the mobile site on the homescreen (which you can use the FB icon or other custom one vs the bookmark icon). Smooth, fast, and no glitches, and no running in the background randomly eating up battery life.

Thanks a lot, bro. One question, is there much difference between this one and the one Mikeyxda put out, the M7_offline.zip? Just curious...
Edit: This works well, thanks again!

i didnt see that one so i dont know. I just needed google now so i posted what i made for my self. lol
When you say disable security do you mean allow unknown sources?
I am on the base .5, rooted and unlocked with FreeGee .5. Installed the zip(painlessly), but no Google Now. It tries to start, then crashes with "android.process.acore" has stopped. Also, Google Voice no longer will start. Restoring backup, and will try again...
BTW, very nice to see another developer in the mix. I am never afraid to try something new.

What does it mean to have security disabled?
The security thing is for those of you that only rooted and did not use the bootloader unlock exploit. Just make sure you have a CMW backup that works before using.
Speaking of backups, I found out (the hard way) that backups taken with the original non-touch freegree CWM do not restore! My problem with the Google Now and android.process.acore was cleared up with a simple clear data per adfurgerson's suggestion, so no harm no foul for me. But if you still have the non-touch version of CWM, install the touch version THEN take a backup.

If you are doing it from your phone and it is bringing you to our "mobile" site, you will need to click the "full" site link. From there you shouldn't have any issues with downloading the attachment.

You could also try a different browser. Dolphin or naked browser are good.

Nice, seems to be working well, but I can't get it to launch apps. For example, if I say "open app Pandora" or "launch Pandora" it does a google search for the phrase instead of launching the app. Any ideas?

Hmm not sure this is related to this tweak in particular but I get a error when I first use the Google search icon and it force closes
"could not opt you in to lattitude please check your map settings "
Thing is that every thing in location settings in maps is enabled
Any ideas?
