Hi,
How do I go back to stock rom without locking, unrooting my phone again ?
I don't want to unlock, root, install CWM again.
Just want to flash back to stock..please suggest.
Thanks.
Before you flashed any custom ROM's did you perform a suggested full backup? If so then simply restore the backup from recovery. If you did not then doing an SBF back to stock is highly suggested. After you SBF to stock, root, unlock and install CWM, perform a FULL backup (this includes backing up webtop).
I will have a stock-rooted 198_7 up on the site later today but not knowing what you were running before I still suggest doing a full SBF.

Also I don't want to go through the hassle of doing unlock and installing CWM.
I have the stock sbf file. Can't I use CMW to restore it ?
Thanks.

You cannot flash an SBF from CWM. You are going to need to use RSD lite to get back to stock. If you were using any of the AOSP ROM's like CM7, CM9 and MIUI you will need to perform a factory reset before you SBF to stock.
Hi,
I am trying to install ICS on my on my friends photon and when I run the moto-fastboot commands its giving error and says: Failed.
How to fix ?
Thanks.
Need a bit more info. Which moto-fastboot commands are you trying to run? (I'm going to sleep in a little bit but will try to get you going before then)
Hi,
I ran:
moto-fastboot erase recovery (this failed)
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery-blue-photon3.img (this also failed)
Thanks.
Is you phone in fastboot mode? (black screen with moto logo and "fastboot" in white at the top of the screen)

I am running 2.2.2 Froyo with 1.77 build.
I unlocked and rooted via Gingerbreak.
I went into CWM Recovery, erased all cache and flashed Alien Rom v3 and immediately flashed the Alien theme over it (I think that is where I made my booboo). The Rom appeared to load perfectly yet when the phone restarted the Moto logo animation appeared to run then the screen would go dark. This process repeats every few seconds non stop.
I can get into Android Recovery, RSD, everything. I tried flashing the 1.8.3 sbf through RS Lite 5.3.1 and while it said "PASS" it still hangs at the Moto animation.
I have no idea what to do. I think I can get out of it as I have done A LOT of searching through the forums and google but I am terrible with CMD.
Any helpful and/or useful advice?
Try restoring a backup, if not try to flash a fruitcake

Are you unlocked and flashed cwm through fastboot, or did you use the system recovery app?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
System recovery app. I can access Androids recovery (obviously) but not many options...
Did you unlock your bootloader?
I ran into the same issue the first time I tried to flash Alien. Since you're flashing Alien, I assume your bootloader is unlocked (As it's required for Alien).
If you have an unlocked bootloader, do this:
EDITED: Apparently, I'm a new user and can't post links. Go to the address bar and replace the number with 1163342
Use Fastboot to flash the boot.img and the system.img files. This will give you Gingerbread/Motoblur like it comes out of the box. (It's a start!)
Thanks for the link. Will try when I get home. If I can just get past cmd...
Ok so before my Atrix was stock on Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA update. I then sbf flashed the pudding ROM, and it flashed correctly but my Atrix said boot error 0X1000 and that it detected no OS. It gave me the options regularly seen on the boot screen (including recovery, bp bypass nv flash, etc). To remedy this I did fast boot oem unlock and then fast boot reboot. The phone was unlocked, and at first it was stuck on the dual core screen, but on second boot it booted into the new ROM. I then flashed a custom recovery (tenfar's) and installed the pre release CM7 ROM. I'm now rooted and unlocked running CM7. My question is, do I ever need to use sbf flash again or can I always just install through my custom clockwork mod recovery. Also, when I do install a ROM through cwm recovery, is it just like sbf flash, as in does it overwrite all previous data and I'm starting fresh with my new ROM (after cache and data wipes of course)? And if I ever do sbf flash to something higher than 1.8.3 (my fuse has already been burned since I did the OTA to 2.3.4, will it be safe)?
Lastly, an important question I need to ask pertains to the cwm recovery. Whenever I try to use a function on ROM Manager, it says I need to flash clockwork mod recovery, even though I already have Tenfar's cwm recovery flashed into my phone. Is it safe to flash cwm recovery that ROM Manager is asking me to flash even while I have Tenfar's custom recovery flashed on my phone?
Yes, threw cwm a full rom if you wipe all your data, it will be like a fresh install.
But it won't erase recovery or mess with bootloader
You can skip flash sbf's by using cwm zips, since every custom rom is in cwm and none in sbf.
If you update to a higher who knows?
You are already in gb. The sure if you downgrade with ota sbf you will hard brick!
In an upgrade, mmm let's say ICS, as they promised to unlock the BP, may they finally do it..
If they dont, or its not safe etc,
Don't worry . Devs will make again a safe cwm zip.
For rom manager.
Yes, it is safe, but..
It doesn't support sdcard-ext.. Only the internal.. So stay with tenfars or with the new one, of another guy in dev section.
ofcourse you can install eg rom managers recovery, and after that install using fastboot tenfars or the other one..
Its safe. If you know what you are doing.
One recovery will be installed each time..
Its up too you..

Danger!
To be honest...
you can use clockworkmod and take advantage of your unlocked bootloader, but the second that you brick (soft/hard) your device, you are in trouble. You wont be able to reflash it back to stock because the only SBFs that exist are for 4.5.57, and 4.5.52. Reflashing either of these downgrades WILL BREAK YOUR DEVICE FOR GOOD.
If you are lucky, you might be able to use fastboot to restore stock images, but if I were you, I would head on over to:
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/softwareupdate.asp
and use the update software to return your phone to factory ROM. With an OTA updated Atrix, there is too much chance that your phone will be rendered useless.
Do what you wish, but be mindful of the consequences.
This is all very confusing. There is a 4.5.91 SBF. It isn't a downgrade. It should only be flashed as a last resort though. It will remove the word "unlocked" from your boot screen, but it can't un-burn the fuse.
The far safer option is to use CWM for everything. This is the recommended approach.

As to your CWM question, I believe romracer's CWM is the new standard. I thought the CM7 instructions even said to use it to install CM7.

Hi,
I finally unlocked the BL on my Atrix (4.5.91 from AT&T)
I downloaded ROM Manager and installed CWM Recovery. I managed to boot into recovery from ROM Manager once but now it's not working.
I get the Motorola Logo and then it switches to the android logo with an exclamation mark
I was thinking of flashing the touch recovery, found information here:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-touch-on-motorola-atrix-4g-how-to/
Is there a newer version? Are these instructions accurate? Do I need to be in fastboot to do this?
Also, I never flashed a ROM before
I really need a clear NOOB guide for doing this and would appreciate recommendations for ROM (if possible, ones that have Hebrew)
Thanks!!!
before you start digging an even bigger hole... STOP
you've already installed cwm so I don't know why you would need to install another version? Right now you need to get your phone up and running again.
Try these steps... power up phone holding the volume down button to get into recovery. Did that work? If so you should see the recovery menu - select data/facory reset and press power to select and then try and reboot system... does that work?
If not I think you'll need to flash the sbf file using rsd lite. Instructions are easy to find on here. Good luck.
I think I didn't explain myself properly.
The phone works 100%, I simply cannot boot into CWM recovery
when I power up holding the volume down button I get to what I think is the phone's default recovery. I get Fastboot as the first option and I can browse through with the volume down button
Anyways, what I would like to learn how to do is safely flash CWM Recover Touch (just because it's easier to use) and Flash ROMs
Thanks!!
Insure that rom manager is up to date, then reflash cwm recovery & try booting into recovery again.

OK, I re-flashed CWM recovery and it's working now
Before I proceed, I would like to backup my current AT&T ROM.
1) do I do this through th Backup and Restore in the recovery?
2) is this called NANDROID backup?
3) is it safe to restore from it?
I created a backup and again it does not boot into recovery. same issue
Will I always need to reflash it after each time?
OK, it only boots into recovery once after I flash it. Even if I don't do anything
ROM Manager is the most recent version (5.0.0.7)
Recovery is the most recent version according to ROM Manager (5.0.2.0)
Anyone? please help

Flash the recovery through ROM Manager one more time, boot to recovery, and flash the latest version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475444
See if that one stays working.
Rooted a atrix 4g AT&T US.
I had the stock rom running after root, then when I tried to setup a custom rom it wont get past the M logo. I can get into fastboot but when I try to flash any system.img it says the file is too large. I tried erasing system, boot and data, then got into CWM and tried to install from zip. It runs and says it finished. but still no boot. I dont know what else to try. any ideas?
did you format system, data, cache in advanced menu in recovery?

I noticed only one important thing missing from your post, did you unlock the bootloader first? Rooting is totally separate from being able to install custom roms.

So I used fastboot to flash a new recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500) Worked like charm, Roms load correctly and are loading great. (Although the one I am trying right now is stuck on the boot animation) I did have one loaded and working in only a few seconds after updating the recovery.
Hope this helps someone else.

Try to restore to the stock rom with the RSDlite method, it's the most simple.
Then check the automatic unlock and root for the atrix, it's a command line program that makes everything by itself, it must be somewhere here in the top guides of this forum

Do NOT use RSD or SBF files. Use fruitcakes.
Hello! I'm new-ish here... As in I just opened an account to post after watching from the sidelines for a few months now.
Anyway,
I'm having problems with my phone. I was running ViperLTE 2.1.1 and recently switched to CyanogenMod. My sdcard wouldn't work correctly, so I tried to go back to stock, and my phone never made it past the "HTC" boot screen. I've tried reflashing and whatnot almost a dozen times, including restoring my nandroid backup, with no luck. Now I can't even access it via adb. What do I do?
Fastboot the stock boot image. The instructions are in the development section. Are you s off?

I'm not s-off, and I have tried that multiple times, and at this point I can't get to adb or fastboot. I'm having trouble even accessing the bootloader.
EDIT: I got to the bootloader and adb/fastboot, but still flashing any boot image does nothing to fix the problem, and I'm still stuck at the htc screen.

You are flashing the stock boot image right? From here for example.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Are you installing a stock(-based) ROM or restoring a nandroid?

Yeah. I'm repeatedly flashing the stock boot image and restarting, to no avail. According to the CyanogenMod forum, I need to install a stock-based ROM and then format my sdcard (to fix my initial problem)... and then restore my nandroid afterwards. At this point, it would be nice to just be able to restore the nandroid and have a phone that makes calls for a day-trip I'm going on tomorrow.

Just to check, after flashing the stock boot.img, you have installed a stock ROM or restored a stock-based ROM from a nandroid right (i.e. you're sure the backup is not from CyanogenMod)? The boot image alone isn't going to do anything. Also, depending on whether you were running Viper 1.x or 2.x, you need a different boot.img. The boot.img for Viper 1.x can be found here.
If restoring your nandroid backup doesn't work, freshly install Stock (or Viper).

I'll try that when I get to the computer, but do I need to use twrp or can I continue to use cwm? Also I can't access the sd card via my computer to put the rom onto it because it doesn't mount when I'm booted into recovery

Either TWRP or CWM will work. There is a test version of CWM that enables USB mass storage support... but I haven't yet tested the feature under Windows.
I got it to work, via side-loading the zip and then flashing the boot.img. I don't know why I was having so many problems before... But they're better now. Thanks for your help
