I have a Norwegian Samsung Galaxy S2 i1900G which I have rooted. I bought it in may this year, and it is locked to my carrier Telenor.
I usually stick to Apple products, though went for an Android this time, and was completely unfamiliar with the rooting process.
I uploaded a kernel using Heimdall on my mac and the phone rebooted as normal, but was unable to connect to the SIM-card (I guess this has something to do with it being locked to a carrier?). I tried uploading a ROM, and I think I have soft-bricked the phone.
It doesn't turn on, just shows the boot screen. When I turn it off it shows the charging screen (stuck, no animation) even if it is not connected to anything.
It does go into download mode.
I have searched the forums and elsewhere looking for help, but nothing has worked so far, and I'm afraid of making the damage worse.
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 but the downloads to the stock kernels aren't working.
I'm very grateful for any response!
Google S II firmwares and download them from another site if XDA dont work. Then flash the firmware in Odin or Heimdall

That link is to i9100 firmwares. Not i9100G firmwares.
Firmwares and kernels are not compatible between the i9100 and the i9100G.
Stick to stuff in the i9100G subforum.
i9100g?
I have been looking to the I9100G subforum for help, as advised, and used the instructions in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619571 thread to try and fix it, but with no success.
I can't get my phone into recovery mode, and Samsung Kies doesn't connect to it, so I can't do a factory reset or data wipe.
On the sticker inside of my phone the ssn is -I9100GSMH and the model is GT-I9100.
Have I been wrong about it being a I9100G?

The risk is very small as long as you follow the instructions to the letter. Read from start to finish a few times before doing anything and double check everything. It's actually all very easy and straightforward
Edit: and have a look at the thread about backing up your EFS folder before flashing (you'll need root) it's in the dev section somewhere.

But how hard is it to really brick a SGS2 ?
I think i read about 1 person who couldnt get his phone up and running again .
SGS2 i belive is really hard to brick.
Sorry for my bad english
There are enough who totally brick a phone in the course of a year . But its hard to do plenty of oh hell moments but recovered flashing stock rom .
Brick tends to be a misused term SGS brick means it should work after flashing stock rom via odin . Other phones brick means dead phone return to factory no hope .

As long as you never tick "Re-Partition" and insert the PIT in Odin its almost imposable to brick unless you somehow nuke the bootloader(which you shouldn't be able todo via flashing custom roms).
I dont even think theres much of a chance of radio bricks, worst that happens is that you have to re-flash.

As long as one of the (secondary) bootloaders is still intact and you can get into download-mode (maybe by using the USB jig), then yes.

If the service centre can't fix (when I sent mine to one they told me it was beyond economic repair) don't lose hope as this guy will probably be able to repair it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1602851
Ended up being cheaper than if my local service centre had been able to repair it too.
Being new to flashing I was also very scared at the start. I was pulling my hair out when the first time I flashed a new rom and got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily I backed up the entire system and I was able to restore.
Make sure you do a back up of your system first.
The first time its scary, I had no nails after the first flash lol. But after that its fun, just make sure to read everything and follow the instructions to the letter.
Good Luck!!
Sim card not recognized
I have rooted by galaxy s2 and my phone fails to recognize the sim card and unfortunately I didn't backup my original rom to restore the previous settings
I tried various things: hard reset, install alternative (custom) roms all seem to have no effect on the sim card.
I am getting quite frustrtated with this, is there an original ROM for my location (GREECE, VODAFONE) to try with odin ? I should note that my mobile seems not to connect with the PC when I try to connect it via kies (odin works instead)
Is there a possibility that the phone's card sensors are physically damaged, thus return it for repairs ?
Thanks for your time

SGS2 - Download mode but no recovery
Hi!
I have a bit of a problem here as well when i was trying to flash back to the stock firmware. Now when I try to get to the clockwork recovery mod, I get the famous dead screen with symbols of mobile phone, exclamation point and a pc. I have been searching solution to this problem for hours now, and still I don't want to quit.
My previous custom rom was installed in with no problems. Litening rom 3.0.
Now, with usb jig i can get into the download mode, no problem there. It just seems that the traffic is just jammed.
Download mode works but Odin doesn't transfer anything. Gets stuck on the factoryfs.img while i'm trying to flash. Kies doesn't recognize the phone but pc recognizes the USB device with no problem. Original stock firmware doesn't load on the phone. Odin just stops transferring.
Things I've tried so far.
-Reflash (both litening rom again and stock firmware) with odin (Kies is not on while I do this, I checked)
-Kies (doesn't work)
-Download mode does work but it seems that phone doesn't accept any files.
-I tried the one-click unbrick which seemed to do something god but failed at the end.
What could I still try? I'm running out of options now.
I apologize for my bad english.
Hey there,
i really read several topics in the xda-developers forum and tried to help myself. Nothing worked so I'm very grateful for any help of you professionals.
I've got an I9100GSMH which was already flashed with Odin and 2.3.6.
Following (stupid) steps I did:
1) tried to flash I9100XXLPQ - seems to be working but the phone got stuck at the bootloader/samsung logo after flashing
2) after that I tried I9100GXXLPN - but this didn't work anyways.
3) i did a Wipe/Factory Reset in recovery mode and deleted the cache. then I tried I9100GXXLPN - no success
4) now I tried to get back to 2.3.6 with I9100GXXLA1 and used a omap4_all PIT file. The repartitioning worked but not the flash. After that I just pulled out the usb plug, which was kinda stupid.
Now the phone stays fully black and doesn't react to any buttons, no Recovery mode, no Download Mode or anything else.
- What can I do to get back into Download mode? Does this USB jig help/work?
- Which Firmware, PIT, Bootloader, etc. would fit for my phone? (Just working - no matter 2.3.6 or 4.0.1)
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate this.
Greetings
Futuretec
If the phone shows no signs of life, only thing you can do is try a jig which realistically probably has 1% chance of getting you into download mode. Actually, I'm being generous. Probably a lot less than that. But worth a try nonetheless.
So that means you can either have it JTAG'd by a 3rd party repairer or send it into Samsung & hope they either can't tell or don't care that's it's been messed with & they repair it under warranty. Best thing to do would be to send it into Samsung/authorised repairer in the first instance, and if they're going to charge you for the repair (don't bother debating this, btw), ask for a quote. That way you can compare their price to fix it with the cost of a JTAG. Here's a JTAG repairer to give you an idea of what you're probably up for (say $100 USD incl postage to/from ?). I'm sure you'll find others with a Google search, maybe even one close to you.
Edit to add -Actually, given you ended up with bootloop after flashing the I9100 rom in the first instance, it probably wasn't that which killed it. More likely pulling the plug.

My guess would be his flashing of an OMAP .pit on what seems to be an I9100, rather than I9100G (he said I9100GSMH not I9100GGSMH).
Ahhhh yes. You're right ;-) The fine details.

Warranty ain't covering that. Only way you get away with it is if the NAND is so stuffed they can't tell, or if whomever fixes it doesn't care/turns a blind eye.

Hello all,
thanks for your nice respones.

I'm from Germany - anyone now where I can find a professional doing a JTAG "unbrick"? Or do you have other Solutions.
I ordered a USB Jig + Docking station for external battery loader (maybe the battery is low).
Thanks for your help!

Doubtful the jig will work, and battery low isn't the issue.
As mentioned above by oinkylicious, the issue is you flashed an OMAP .pit file meant for an I9100G to an Exynos I9100 phone.
It was probably recoverable yourself up until you did that.
JTAG or Samsung service is your only option at this point. Google for a mobile phone repair shop near you that has JTAG Riff boxes.
Had about the same issue, Odin was stuck in the middle - pulling the plug here was fatal.
USB jig for SGS2 ICS is different, won't help anyway.
Cost me around $120 for a Jtag treat that fixed the flashed data chip
Model GT-i9100, SSN: i9100GSMH

Hi All,
I have a similar issue. Exactly the same phone. But I don't think I've fully bricked it yet.
Under the battery it says Model: GT-i9100, SSN: i9100GSMH
Originally Gingerbread, then I upgraded to 4.03 via official Kies firmware release.
Couple of days ago tried to upgrade to 4.04 using ODIN and got a fail at factoryfs.img. probably used the wrong firmware.
Could still get into download mode at that stage, but can't anymore. I tried to install a couple of different firmware versions of 4.04. I can still get 'added' when I connect to ODIN though.
Can somebody please help me to upgrade to either 4.04 or Jellybean? I'm willing to go fully custom, just don't know how to do it....Can I do it with ODIN? Do i need a new kernel or pit or image or anything?
Thanks heaps, look forward to any help.
Cheers,
Jackson

After rooting using odin i have installed custom rom all working fine later tried to install another using odin selected .PIT file & re partition was checked in the middle Odin stopped responding disconnected the phone & phone stopped as attached image later battery empty. Now its completely dead no light no logo no boot sign tried to enter download mode, recovery mode, connecting to pc using kies, Odin nothing working.
Please help me to get the phone back to working
Thanks in advance
Unfortunately because you played around with the PIT file unless advised means that your phone is bricked.
Since you cannot get into any mode at all, the only method that might work to fix your phone is a Jtag device.

For the first time i used forum and its really helpfull.
If he's still getting the screen that he posted in his first post, then it does NOT mean it is bricked beyond repair. In fact, you should be able to flash using Odin while that screen is up.
I've only ever seen people get that screen when they either flashed an I9100G ROM or firmware to an I9100, or the reverse. (flashed an I9100 ROM or firmware to an I9100G)
OP, I'd make absolutely sure you are flashing a ROM or firmware that is meant for your model of device.

Oh. Well, if it's completely dead now, and no longer shows that screen, than Cosmic Blue's statement is probably true. JTag it is.
Use Google to try to find a repair shop near you that offers this service. If you can't find one close to you, you'll probably have to mail it off to a shop that does it.

Customer service may not know but if you talk to the technician he will know but may not want to do it as they will not make as much money as replacing the motherboard.
If you check the service manual that are posted on in this forum. one of the steps before replAcing the motherboard is using jig then jtag before you replace MB.

Sounds like you have flashed the wrong firmware
YOUR model no. SWH-M250? ------- firmware flashed GT-I9100
closest i can find on sammobile is an shw-250k http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SHW-M250K&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware which is 4.0.3 i'm sure i read VERY quickly about you being able to flash same firmware from i9100 but i doubt it was as easy as just flashing it... you'd have to go search for it... mean while i'd pop the original firmware back so that at least it works as a phone. if it is i9100 you can try flashing official JB firmware via odin.
Also,some more advice..
If you plan on creating a help topic, dont use silly generic topic titles like "Help!!". These type of titles are not descriptive or specific to your topic content and will just mean you get lower views or possibly none at all.
Topic titles need to be descriptive of content so that people browsing forum can see what topic is about at a glance. Imagine if everybody who posted a help topic put "help" as their title!?

But the problem is as following: i did an update via ODIN 3 with a update of JELLYBEAN. i connected everything well and in Odin it begun with the update of JellyBean. I saw no progressing bar during the update and it taked a several hours. Then i decided to break down the update by pulling out the usb cable from my phone. Since then my phone shows no life at all. With the procedures as kwown with tehe vol/power buttons nothing happens. The phone does not even charge and when i plug the phone via usb in my pc nothing happens. I tried now everything yet but no sign of life.
My question is: is there a solution to bring the phone to life?
Please help me.
Steve
check if your battery has some charge or not, then try a JIG. install the correct drivers and follow a odin flash tutorial. The update dont last more than 10 minutes

I9000 is NOT S2, there's your problem. Check the model of your phone, and if you're sure it's I9000, then go to Galaxy S section of the forum. If it's I9100 or I9100G or something else like that, then make sure you're flashing something compatible with it. For example, flashing an I9100 ROM on a I9100G phone, that's just wrong! Oh and please try to read more before you flash, you probably could've evaded all of this if you read more thoroughly
